Peter (00:02):
What's up, everybody?
Welcome to the podcast. Although
that is the last time we'reprobably gonna say this, not
because it's the last podcast, but because we got a name. Yes.
This is the episode we teasedyou all with.
We have gone high and low. Wehave hired expensive
consultants. We reached out toApple's marketing crew. We
(00:23):
borrowed their truck and went ona a regular jaunt around America
trying to find the name. We haveour new marketing name here, our
new branding, and I'm not gonnabe the one to announce it.
I think that this honor shouldgo to Geoff, and he will do
also, explain it a little bitbecause, well, you will see.
(00:47):
Hello, Geoff. How are you doing, buddy?
Geoff (00:50):
I'm doing just great.
And, yeah, we we came up with we
we really workshopped thisforever.
Peter (00:56):
Yep.
Geoff (00:56):
Came up with a name that
we think it's gonna be perfect.
We think you're all gonna loveit.
Peter (01:00):
We spent a fortune on
this. Right?
Geoff (01:03):
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Fortune,
tons of money, tons of just late
nights Yeah. Just really rackingour brains.
Peter (01:12):
All the feedback from the
listeners that we asked for,
that that that didn't turn up,actually.
Geoff (01:18):
We we we we hired that
one guy that redid the Pepsi
logo and and had all the crazydiagrams.
Peter (01:24):
Yeah. And then had this
idea for, like, oh, wait. Let's
call it new Pepsi. Yeah.Alright.
Go for it.
Geoff (01:32):
Alright. So the new
podcast name for this podcast
that we've done together, thatwe've been working on for
several weeks at this point. Oh,yeah. Brand new, completely
original branding that we'vecome up with is the Compile
(01:54):
Swift podcast.
Peter (01:54):
Oh, damn. That's good.
Geoff (01:57):
That is I I was thinking,
like, man, it's it's classic.
It's simple. It'sstraightforward. Why didn't It's
brilliant.
Peter (02:05):
Why didn't we stop there?
Right? Oh. I think we did
something. Yeah.
Yeah. Okay. So, there's a storyhere. Of course, there's always
a story. Right?
Yes. This was in
Geoff (02:18):
so, actually, I feel has
a story.
Peter (02:21):
I feel like yeah. I mean,
I I I can't justify this.
Geoff (02:27):
I can't I'm I'm not gonna
Peter (02:28):
try and justify it. I'll
just explain it, and then we'll
let the judges decide. All ofthis, of course, was because one
wanted to expand the contentbeyond just Swift. Right? And
and that's how it started.
And then yeah. So to be clear, right, the the it's kinda like
(02:55):
the the the branding subtitlehere is old name, same new
content, which just doesn't youknow? It it's like those weird
chip flavors that they bring outfor a couple of weeks. Right?
You know?
So, yes, that that that's whatwe're going with. We decided
that it was right the firsttime, and we should never have
(03:19):
let that idiot access to renamethe chat rename the podcast in
the hosting. We banned that guy. He's not coming back. He's on an
island somewhere.
Something like that. Yeah. Nevershall my evil twin ever be let
in front of the microphoneagain. So, yes, folks. That
(03:41):
that's what it is.
Right? We decided, look. It wasworking. Okay? You know?
Why why why why did why did welet Peter do what Peter did? It
seemed like such a good idea. And then, you know, reality. But
but the reality is, in alltruthfulness, right, being
(04:02):
serious for a moment, it didjust work the first time around.
And that that, in in a way, waspart of the the success and the
problem.
Right? Anytime you havesomething that you know, like I
said in that episode, look. Idon't wanna be known as the
compile swift guy, and that'swhat happened. On the plus side,
everybody knew what compileswift was. Right?
(04:24):
And so it also worked. And thenafter we, you know, discussed it
and and and Geoff had verykindly pointed out that, you
know, it was working. You know? So, we decided, okay. Let's go
with the original.
Geoff (04:42):
Sometimes sometimes in
order to prove a point, all you
need is a nice chart.
Peter (04:46):
Yeah. Yeah. And and and
this is the so, you know,
actually, you you you say that, and you point that out because
we should tell folks, there'sanother number that and on the
chart that well, well, ingeneral, the line on the chart
suggests that there was a bigconsistent spike growth, bigger
(05:12):
than it was before when whenGeoff joined the podcast. And
it's okay.
Geoff (05:18):
I don't think that's
actually true.
Peter (05:19):
Actually, it is true
because I when you look at the
numbers, it's like, oh, yeah.Look at that look at that first
thirty days of each episode. Andfunny enough, for the most part,
right, I mean, the other earlierepisodes that were just me, they
have similar numbers, but ittook a lot longer to get there.
Right? And so it really is truethat for the that when you
(05:44):
joined us us?
When you joined us, oh my god.I'm talking in the third person
now. The numbers the the firstthirty days sort of the average
has gone up and stayed there. And not to say that this is all
about the numbers, but as youaccurately point out, sometimes
they tell the story. Right?
(06:05):
The truth is that things got alot more interesting when we
have two hosts. Right? And I andI think we all knew this, and we
we all felt this. Right? Infact, Geoff Geoff and I had
often said, you know, some ofour favorite podcasts are when
it's more than one person.
Right? Not that one person isn'tinteresting, depending on what
(06:25):
they're talking about and so on,but it's much more dynamic when
you have two people, especiallyif they have two different
viewpoints, which is what worksso well for us. I have my
viewpoint, and then Geoff pointsout the correct viewpoint to
have. Right?
Geoff (06:42):
Geoff Geoff Geoff points
out the flaws in your viewpoint.
Peter (06:45):
Yeah. Same same same
difference. Right? And then I
edit it down so that there'sless pointing out of those
flaws. So, not a long episodehere, folks, but we wanted to
put this out.
And and so that's it, folks. There you go. Short episode
here, but we wanted to make surethat this super important topic
(07:08):
was clear and understandable, and we could all point to this
in the future and go, yeah. That's where it got weird.
Right?
So that's it. That's what we'vegot for you on this one. There's
lots of things to talk about, inthe coming episodes coming up.
Other than that, as always, youcan find me, if they let me back
(07:30):
on the keyboard, atPeterWidom.com and all the stuff
that I do there. Geoff, wherecan they find you?
Geoff (07:36):
You can find me at
cocoatype.com .
Peter (07:38):
Alright. We will see and
speak to you again next time on
the Compile Swift podcast. Iknow I know it's gonna be hard
to get used to, but but justroll the clock back about, what,
four months, and and you'refine. See you again soon,
everybody.
Geoff (07:58):
See you.
