Esta fecha conmemora la llegada de Cristóbal Colón a América, aunque en Estados Unidos se celebra el 13 de octubre, y no el 12 de Octubre, como es el caso del Día de la Hispanidad en España.
"Comisionado por los Reyes Católicos de España, Colón y su tripulación abordaron tres pequeñas naves —la Niña, la Pinta y la Santa María— para emprender una peligrosa travesía por el Atlántico. Lo guiaba una noble misión: descubrir una nueva ruta comercial hacia Asia, glorificar a España y difundir el Evangelio de Jesucristo a tierras lejanas", escribe el líder republicano.
