(00:00):
Hello and welcome back to another Contemplative Living. You know, we took a month off.
We took a month off because we needed to move our home, move our businesses,
and so the studio doesn't quite look like it used to.
Over the coming weeks, pictures will go back up and things like that,
(00:22):
and it'll sound a little better once we engineer the sounding and stuff like
that. But I wanted to get back.
I wanted to get back to contemplative living, where we talk about concepts to
bring that contemplative style of life, where we're more at peace,
more at center with ourselves.
And so, this is my 200th episode, and I'm very excited to have given 200 episodes
(00:48):
to talk about spiritual concepts like contemplative living.
So today, I thought, what more appropriate topic than giving back?
So that's what we're going to talk about today. We're going to talk about giving
back. And you know, Spirit once said to me, be generous.
Be generous when giving, serving, or sharing the love of life.
(01:13):
And so that's what we're going to talk about. So let's get to it.
Welcome. Now creating a life of peace. This is Contemplative Living with David Bennett.
Contemplations and Reflections to help with spiritual living.
(01:42):
Okay, so things are a little disjointed.
Not everything is where I'm used to, so I'll be probably looking off screen
quite a bit while I get accustomed to the new arrangement that I have here.
But we're talking about giving back. We're talking about that most important
part of life, because it continues the cycle of life.
(02:07):
When we give and we receive, it fulfills our energy.
It helps us to keep that cycle going.
So giving back is recognizing the inner spirit of all those you come to know
and helping them to see that we are all spirit.
(02:30):
You know, each person represents a unique spirit, vibrant in its hue,
yet inseparably woven into the fabric of our collective existence.
And when we give back, whether through thoughts, through acts,
through kindness, charitable work, or simply just being present for someone,
(02:55):
we acknowledge that sacred essence in every individual.
And it's about looking beyond the circumstances and recognizing the divine spark
within each and every person. You know, this collection of ourselves goes beyond
the superficial interactions.
(03:16):
It invites us to delve deeper and to see our reflections in one another's struggles and triumphs.
You know, we try to help others to recognize their spirit and reaffirm that
they're not alone on this journey.
So we become like lanterns lighting up a dark path. our actions can illuminate
(03:39):
the inherent worth in those around us.
So when we lift up others, when we lift them up, we awaken something profound within them,
a realization that they too hold an unquenchable light capable of illuminating
worlds far beyond what they can presently and vision.
(04:03):
So in this dance of giving and receiving, barriers dissolve and empathy flourishes,
fostering a community where love transcends fear and connection replaces isolation.
And don't we need more of that? So the beauty lies in this mutual recognition.
(04:25):
And in giving, there's no hesitancy. It comes from the heart.
You know, think about those moments when you spontaneously lend an ear to a friend.
You know, maybe your friend was in need, but you were there.
Or maybe you shared a piece of chocolate with someone who's had a rough day.
(04:47):
You know, these acts are not born out of obligation, but from an innate desire
to uplift others, igniting joy in both the giver and the receiver.
So when giving emanates.
Authentically, it impacts ripples, ripples outward.
(05:11):
And I saw this in my own life review, like tossing stones into a still pond,
and it creates waves of kindness that can transform lives.
It can transform lives in ways we may never fully understand.
So it builds bridges, and that's important. We need more bridges in this world.
(05:34):
So be someone who donates time, who donates experience, skills,
or talents to help create a better world.
You know, a lot of times this world feels fragmented.
So this simple act of giving, whether it's your time, your experiences,
(05:54):
your skills, or talent that you have, we can weave these threads of connection and hope.
Imagine transforming your passion for cooking into a workshop for underprivileged youth,
or using your artistic flair to beautify community spaces that need rejuvenation.
(06:19):
Every skill that you possess can spark change.
Every hour you dedicate becomes a building block for someone else's journey.
Expand your mind's eye to see further than your own needs to those of family,
(06:41):
community, and ultimately the world, the world in which we live.
It's easy to get lost in our day-to-day struggles, especially with the desires
that we have all the time.
But stepping outside of ourselves reveals a vast landscape, a landscape filled
(07:01):
with opportunities for connection and service.
You know, imagine looking up from your busy schedule to see not just the faces
of family or friends, but also those in your community whose stories intertwine with yours.
By nurturing a broader perspective, we awaken empathy within ourselves.
(07:26):
And that can spark transformation of acts, transformation of acts of kindness.
You know, people are wired to feel happy when they are kind and they're giving back.
Research shows, that's right, research, research shows that our true joy becomes
(07:48):
blossoms in the soil of kindness, kindness and generosity.
And when we think back to those moments that you held the door for a stranger
or volunteered your time at a local shelter, didn't it feel like warmth spreading
through you? That's not just gratitude.
It's a hardwired response. bonds.
(08:10):
Engaging in acts of kindness triggers the response of endorphins in our brains,
creating what scientists call the helper's high.
And this euphoric feeling fosters connections, connections between people and
bringing communities closer together.
It also strengthens bonds.
(08:33):
Empathy fosters understanding, and shared experiences can weave invisible threads
that link us to one another.
And I saw those threads of interconnection in my life review.
And moreover, giving back is an antidote to stress and anxiety.
(08:54):
Yeah, when we focus on uplifting others rather than fixating on our own worries,
we shift perspective and we grow resilience against life challenges.
The ripple effects of kindness are really profound.
It ignites hope where there was despair, inspires change where there was stagnation.
(09:16):
And above all, it reminds us that happiness flourishes most vibrantly when rooted
in compassion toward others.
So be a sentinel, keeping watch of the sacrifices of self and others with the
(09:39):
realization that all life is sacred.
This is a seed that really needs to grow,
that a lot of times we need to watch and be aware of the sacrifices of others,
and understand that when we sacrifice ourselves for others, that that's a sacred act.
(10:03):
That's something that can't be diminished, and it expands with every act of sacrifice It expands.
It reminds me of some Native American ceremonies of giveaway,
where a person gives away everything that they have to their community.
(10:26):
It's an act of being trusting of the universe that what you give back will support you.
So be that sentinel. Be aware of the sacrifice that others make.
So giving and receiving restores the balance and the harmony that's needed in our galaxy.
(10:53):
You know, in the vastness of our galaxy, every star and planet dances in a delicate
balance, a cosmic rhythm that's shaped by giving and receiving.
And just as celestial bodies pull on one another with gravitational forces,
(11:13):
so too do the acts of kindness weave connections between us.
When we give whether it's
time resources or love we send
ripples ripples through
the universe that inspire others to do the same yeah and this act creates kind
(11:39):
of a feedback loop what we offer fuels not only our hearts and not only the
hearts of others but it also nurtures our own soul, our own being.
So imagine each act of generosity as a bright star illuminating the dark corners
(11:59):
and understand that we receive graciously,
recognizing our inner dependence upon one another.
And when we do that, we acknowledge that this light.
Allows us to be guided, guided together.
(12:22):
And the forces counteract chaos.
It counteracts instability within ourselves and the community in which we reside.
So as harmony enfolds us like starlight at nightfall, relationships flourish
and collective resilience can build.
(12:47):
So, I hope that you give some thought into how you can give back.
I like to use this forum of my podcast as a way of giving back.
It's just one way that I try to give back.
But there are so many different ways. We all have talents.
We all have things that we're capable of doing that can help lift up someone
(13:10):
else or help lift up our community.
So volunteering, giving of ourselves, those are all great ways to give back.
And it completes that cycle, you know, of giving and receiving is very important
in life. It nurtures our being.
So I hope that you find that in the coming week.
(13:31):
