Speaker 6 (01:32):
Beginning of the NFL year? So basically that's March. Ye's
around March. Yeah, somewhere in that that range of March
eight through March twelfth is we usually when the NFL
season called the NFL year restart. So it's when they're
right when free agency is about to begin all those things.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
That's when we should restart.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
Our shows because we'll be in August and you know,
all right, y'all, we're coming off our break.

Right, Yeah, you didn't miss it, you missed that was
all those shows that happened in March and April and
May and June.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
So yeah, it starts with the NFL.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
And you say this, this this is season thirty?
Speaker 9 (02:04):

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Twenty one, okay, twenty one, we'd episode.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Four, y'all doing this is like four or something.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, that would be right. You can do the math.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
I was a baby. I don't know, but I should
you get them. Hey, Manna, she ain't teach me much.
Speaker 5 (02:19):
But I do some quick you know what I'm saying,
some some quick algebra, real fair.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
You know what I'm saying, some quick algebra, quick.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Algebra, rythmetic what they do.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
I am old enough the way they called it arithmetic,
and I think I'm the last generation what they call
it that it's just regular math.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
Now's funny my mom calls it the same thing.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
She not just shouts out to know what the hell?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yeah, same thing, the same thing.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
All right, let's talk.
Speaker 10 (02:42):
It is U.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
It is Thursday.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
It is September eighteenth, and it is our time to
get into a little more talk on the Chicago Bears
that they were going to focus in on the Bears
defensive some Cowboys offense. Before we get to that, let's
talk some injuries. Cowboys had two players that did not
practice yesterday, drawn blame with the foot injury. Uh, Trayvon
DIDs had an illness. I'm assuming neither of those has
(03:04):
been a setback. It just kind of is what it is.
You expect they'll as certainly expected, Trayvon will be fine.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
It was a walk through. Are we hearing anything more
about where Deron is in his recovery.
Speaker 7 (03:15):
No, I have not heard any more about that. That
one was initially told to me that it was probably
going to be two or three games. But as the
you know, we're now into the second game and then
we'll get an evaluation of it next week. Though, But
that was they were pretty adamant about that. It was
going to be, Hey, if we can get through the
second game, then we'll get into the third, and then
(03:36):
now we'll start to work about how to get him
back on the field. But it was for sure it
was going to be the first two weeks.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Got a Cavante Turpin was limited yesterday.
Speaker 7 (03:45):
So that's a good sign. That's actually a good sign.
Speaker 6 (03:47):
Yeah, and then you've got Tyler Guiden who was also
limited with a shoulder anything there that we have to
be concerned about.
Speaker 7 (03:53):
I think anytime botch your offensive tackle has a shoulder
issue that I don't think that's a good thing. But
I didn't get the feeling that it was something problematic
that but but I I've been told it wasn't problematic
and then all of a sudden, my guy didn't have
any power in the shoulder, you know, or and then
the punch and stuff like that. And you know, we
we talk about these offensive linemen a bunch. It's about
(04:15):
pushing and it's about being you know, anything with your shoulder.
Uh seems to be uh a little bit. But I
was told that, you know, don't worry about it right now.
But I always worry about offensive lineman when it's when
it comes to elbows and shoulders and stuff that that
you know that they they use as part of their techniques.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Tough.
Speaker 6 (04:34):
Yeah, looking at the Cowboys injury reported, it was very
limited compared to what you see over on the on
the Chicago side. Uh, particularly on the defensive side. And
we're gonna talk a lot in depth about the defense,
but uh, Jalen Johnson we already know is going to
be out. He's already that he's gonna he has an
injury that's going to keep him out.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
For a while.
Speaker 6 (04:54):
But they did have also some other guys who seem
to be key players for them. Linebacker TJ. Edwards has
a hamstring. He practice defensive back Kyler Gordon, Yeah, he
has a hamstring injury, he did not practice. Grady Jarted
defensive line, defensive tackle with a knee injury, he did
not practice, uh, and then defensive back and Jalen Jones
(05:15):
hamstring he did not practice as well. Tell me a
little bit about these guys from the standpoint of the
relevant importance that they have for that Chicago defense that,
by the way, has been having some tough weeks here
the first two weeks.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Of the season. Gordon is massive, that's that.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
And when you're dealing with Dallas, you want to have
as many corners on the field that can play. I
believe the Bears are down like three guys. So former
Cowboy legend DA Shawn Wright is out there running a round.
So if he's going to be one of the outside
there and we need to go find him, that's what
the Lions did. That what the Lions did. We need
to go find Na Shawn Wright, just like just like
they did. But Gordon was a guy similar like last
(05:51):
week what you got with Phillips. Like Phillips may not
be the big name, but he's tough, scrapping, he can,
you know, do some things right and takes away from
you want the defense's corners to be as terrible as
possible so that you can have as many actions as
you can. And as long as you block these guys
up front, I think you can really you can really
beat up on the corners over there.
Speaker 7 (06:11):
Yeah, Nick McCloud is the is the nickel corner filling
in And the first couple of weeks it's been a
little bit of there's been some communication problems. There's been
some some problems they've had down in the red zone. Uh,
you know the Lions last week, Saint Brown coming across
the on motion, McCloud gets caught in the trash. He
(06:32):
just lets it go and thinking he's got help on
the other side, and it ends up being a touchdown,
you know. So, yeah, they're playing with the backup guy
over there. So to me, we always talk about this,
Hey can you take advantage of I think this offense
kind of understands now, like, hey, we can match guys up,
we can get some guys, we can get some favorable looks.
(06:52):
I think the nickel corner. And then also with with
right being on the outside, this is a team that
doesn't have the pass rush that we saw last week
from the Giants, So you know hopefully things will be
a little bit protected, a little bit better up front,
but there's a couple of different guys in that secondary
you absolutely need to go after.
Speaker 6 (07:09):
As I introduced yesterday, we're going to go inside ops
to this segment where I have a couple of questions
for you guys that are a big picture about this defense.
Let's start first with Dennis Allen, who is the Chicago
defensive coordinator. He's an accomplished defensive coordinator, didn't have as
much success as a head coach, but certainly a good
defensive coordinator. What do you guys know of his system
and what you can expect to see from a Dennis
(07:31):
Allen defense man?
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Bunch of men press man, and he's wanting to beat
you with the talent of his guys. It just happens
that his talent is a little banged up right now.
So it's going to depend on him changing up. And
he didn't change up last week. He just kept running
what it is out there. So if they're gonna be
press corner and getting pressure with four rushers, if that's
(07:54):
how you want to win, then cool den, cowboy, you
just got a block four and beat man coverage.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
If as what it is.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
But nothing easy enough, nothing weird, nothing exoeting is just
straight up four man rush.
Speaker 7 (08:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (08:05):
The thing is with the fore man rush too. You're
gonna see a little bit of some twist front though too.
You're gonna see some of the you know, there's a
couple of different times, I know in the Minnesota game
where they tried to take advantage of the Vikings maybe
being a little bit lighter upfront. I think it's a
different challenge when you deal with the Detroit Lions that's
a little bit better offensive line, and so they were
trying to take advantage of of the Vikings with some
(08:27):
of their movement, you know, with the with the and
we've seen it before when you when you have guys
almost like with with dan Quinn w it was four
man line, it's it's a it's a post, it's a
come around. Uh, you know, it's a loop.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (08:39):
These are things they're trying to just create as much
habit as they can. They just don't have the ability
or have the star players to be able to do that,
so they're trying to do it through movement. But then
when they get caught just straight rushing, you then it's
a little bit more difficult. That's why you're gonna see
some double a gap blitz looks. We saw that with
Mike zim We saw Michael Parsons last year being able
(09:02):
to attack with that double a gap blitz look. So
you'll see some of that. They'll get in that and
then they'll drop back and try and playing coverage there.
They will try and play with with Dak Prescott's his
mental of seeing what he's reading on the defense pre snap.
Speaker 11 (09:16):
For sure.
Speaker 6 (09:17):
They gave up a ton of points last week to Detroit.
What did you guys see as you watched that game?
What did you see as far as their defense and
what they were what they I don't want to say
necessarily what they were doing wrong, but where they were
getting beat, what was causing all the problems for them
last week? They gave up that allowed them to give
up so many points.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
They let Gibbs run, They found Nashan right, and when
they got to the gold line corners just looked a little.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
Lost out there. That best base the what happened.
Speaker 7 (09:41):
Yeah, He's absolutely right, and I when we get into
it a little bit more, Bot's is going to tell you.
I guarantee it's going to tell you this. He's going
to tell you how. He's going to give you a
specific reason the way to run a football against this defense.
And I think he's absolutely right about that. I know
we talked about it this morning on our own show,
but we were getting in into there's there's ways to
move the ball on this Bears front, and it's running
(10:05):
the ball. Maybe not so much insight, but one of
the strengths of the Dallas Cowboys early through the first
couple of weeks of the season there's their ability to
play on the edge and run the football. They're one
of the best teams in the National Football League when
it comes to outside runs, so and the Bears one
of the worst teams defending the outside runs. I guarantee
you watching this next segment's going to tell you how
to do that.
Speaker 6 (10:24):
So that's a good week for me to start Javonte
Williams of what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Yes, yeah, goodep.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Keep giving it to them too, Yeah, no doubt. You know,
last you know, last week it was started.
Speaker 8 (10:34):
You said it's on your fantasy Oh okay, I'm like, well,
what do you mean that's a given?
Speaker 4 (10:40):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Yes, but uh, give them more carries.
Speaker 11 (10:44):
You know.
Speaker 5 (10:45):
Week one it was like fifteen carries. Last week it
was eighteen. I think this would be a fantastic time
to see if he can, if he can handles twenty
win I think, okay, yeah, you mean go in, lean
in right at these we go in. All right, we're
gonna take our first break when we come back. We're
going to dive into the Dallas offense versus Chicago defense.
There's some unique things that we'll talk about there and
ways it maybe this Cowboys offense can take advantage of
(11:07):
this Bear's defense. We'll be back Dallas Cowboys dot com radio.

Second segment of the Break LIFEROMSWBC Mortgage Studios at the Star.
The segment brought to you about blockchain dot Com. All right,
let's get into the Dallas offense versus just Chicago defense,
which you guys got.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Brian Brods, tell.
Speaker 7 (14:07):
Me how to run the football against these catch I
know it teased that for you.
Speaker 11 (14:10):
Man.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
You set me up. I had many ways to go.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
Yea, So, Brian, I think you do have an advantage
run the ball here. I think you're physically better. Yes,
I think you.
Speaker 11 (14:21):
Have a.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
Running back you can lean on. Yes, running back that
you can trust. But there's a handful of looks that
the Bears line up in. Brian Brod is kind of
bothering me a little. I'm just gonna write this down
while I talk. That's just old coaching me, Brian, Brian,
they got something called bastard fronts when I was when
I was playing ball back, and that I'm not cussing.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
It's just what they call them. Just just a front.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
That's just a front, just a front that's not common, right,
You got odd fronts, even fronts, whether it's four players,
three players, you know, things like that. For the most part,
they line up in the even front bro three tech,
one tech two ends, and that's just how they run it. Yes,
but sometimes they condense the look and it turns into
right reduce it, and it turns into this weird bastard
front where there's still four guys down. But they'll put
(15:02):
Dexter the one tech. They'll line him up zero right
over the center. They'll put one of their threes that
like ahead of two, and their edge that's normally playing
a little bit more outside. They'll bring him to like
a four I kind of guy. So the line that's
normally a little.
Speaker 7 (15:16):
A technique right over inside of the tackle.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
And they'll bring those guys in tight and they'll walk
a linebacker down and you can call the four three
over if you want to. But to my eyes, it's
just some bastard front that's just caught in the middle there.
And Brian, what I saw the Lions do a whole
bunch is they caught the end guy the last down
linean on the end of the line of scrimmage playing undisciplined,
So he'll run upfield, get lost, run around the circle,
(15:40):
not read the counter and squeeze down, but just run
up field. And what that does is it leaves a
lot of room between the zero, the upfield end and
the linebacker. And the lines ran right up sea gap
every single time, se gap or D gap if the
tight end is there.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Right. So, I'm thinking, if.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
I'm the Cowboys offensive line, I'm running all kind of
traps in that direction. I'm running counters in that direction, sweeps.
If the Cowboys working on pinning pool stuff, this would
be a fantastic time to take Ferguson Tolbert, a guy
that you know you may not have all the faith
in the world of them blocking. You can run all
the way down and just getting somebody's way and let
(16:18):
your movement. Guys Terren Steel brock Hoffman can probably move
a little bit in this situation right and pull those
guys to the outside. You have so much opportunity because
their edge guys play undisciplined.
Speaker 7 (16:28):
By I totally I love what you're saying too, and
one thing that we've seen from the Dallas Cowboys is
their ability and we mentioned it I did earlier. One
of the best teams in the league when it came
to attacking the edges, and they are super productive doing that,
and that's just absolutely right. The things that we've seen
with the Cowboys is we've seen some really good down blocks.
We've seen span Ford, We've seen the tackles get hip
(16:51):
to hip. We've seen them get some really good movement.
We've seen some log blocks where the guy's pulling and
then he turned back and turns back inside and keeps
the defender inside, and then you've seen a kickout block
from the second blocker up inside. Dallas is going to
run some counters in this game. Dallas is going to
run some traps in this game. And Dallas is probably
going to have some success running the football if the
(17:12):
Bears continue to play the front that the way they have.
They've they've had some they've had some issues with that,
and people have taken really real advantage of that. And
I think that Dallas, it's just not hey, hand the
ball to Williams and hope for the best. There's really
some scheme specific things that they're doing with their down
blocks and their pullers that are making him have some success.
Speaker 5 (17:32):
Running the football also too, brand I think one block
that is going to be really important where we're doing
all this movement and stuff is the Cowboys have proven
that they can move zeros off the football.
Speaker 7 (17:42):
That's a head up technique. That zero tech right over
the center.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
No disrespect, Javon Dexter is not you know, Jordan Davis
right now, some of these other guys that you've that
you've seen the past two weeks. I'm taking Hoffman, Booker
or if you go on to the other side, I'm
taking Big Tiler, and I'm moving Jervon Dexter off the football.
This may be the least talented, respectfully, the least talented
zero that that you've seen so far. I'm taking him.
(18:07):
I'm moving him out the way, and I'm running right
at those linebackers.
Speaker 6 (18:10):
Does that change it all with Hoffmann being there versus Babie.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
No sir, no sirt, Because this isn't like, it's not
like Jordan Davis is there. So I actually have faith
that Hoffman and Booker, or Hoffman and Big Tyler can
take can take Javon dexter and move him around a
little bit and getting getting movement from the one tagle
to zero. That can that can blow up everything because
now your pullers can't get around the Cowboys.
Speaker 7 (18:31):
Make them run the hump and that's that's a hard one.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
But just moving him downfield. Now the cowboy, now you're
running back that's on your fans team there. Now he's
gaming three yards and not even getting touched because the
edge is undisciplined. The zero is getting moved, and the
backers just so wide out. So the Cowboys can run
the football all day every day here.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
So let me ask you this question.
Speaker 6 (18:49):
You're telling me right now that that this team is
extremely weak when it comes to their run defense. But
we also know that right now they're very compromised when
it comes to their secondary, where their three starting cornerbacks
are right now did not practice as of yesterday. One
we know will not play this week. Sure, which way
do you go? There is there a preference this week
(19:10):
that you would say they are better served running the
ball or they're better served just lining up and just
throwing the ball around the yard. Which one is better
for you?
Speaker 2 (19:18):
In this game?
Speaker 5 (19:19):
Brian Bron's got some written down nicely on one of
these papers.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Here.
Speaker 5 (19:23):
You run the football first, yeah, and you set up
play action. There we go, and then you wood the
downfield player.
Speaker 7 (19:28):
Yeah, Dak Prescott is nineteen to twenty one throwing the
ball play action.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
I mean he is.
Speaker 7 (19:33):
He's it's almost perfect, you know. So Yeah, you get
into I think you play under center, you run the football,
you make the giant excumuity that Bears have to defend
your run, and then when that does it work, then
you've got Dak Prescott his ability the ball handling and
have his ability to turn the back to the defense
make a throw down the field. You got some matchups
we talked about some of the cornerbacks we talked about
(19:55):
they've struggled a little bit too with their linebacker play.
Noah Swell has had to fill in, and there's been
some times where in Minnesota they matched him up one
on one and he lost. He lost the coverage up
the field like on a wheel route. You know, eyes
were in a bad spot. It looked like to me
in a couple against the Lions, they tried to match
(20:15):
him up there. He had trouble with that. There are
certain players that they can match up with with whether
it's a running back or wide receiver and do some
really damage, but running the football and then setting up
your play action game, especially with Dak Prescott being one
of the best in the league's through at least for
the first two weeks of the season, playing out of
that particular look.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
Brian, with the amount of press man that the Bears run,
you would imagine that they will switch things around if
they don't have the corners out there, if they do
decide to line up with the guys that they have
Nayseean Wright and you know all the other guys that
were going to just pick on here, Nick McCleod.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
And those guys. Yeah, Derek Davidson, Stevenson and all them.
Speaker 5 (20:56):
Derek does have a point, Brian, if they do walk
down on you and there's not a bunch of safety,
should you open a game throwing the ball deep against them?
If that's what they're gonna give you. Naseean Wright versus
Pickings one on one, I'm silent.
Speaker 7 (21:06):
I think that it's very inviting to say to do,
and I trust Dak Prescott to absolutely do that. I
trust Pickens. I think they're gonna get Pickings going. I
mean they got him in that that that game. I
was so encouraged by what I saw from Pickens, him
and Lamb and others. I go to the run first.
I'm gonna I'm gonna sit there and try and establish
(21:27):
some things. Maybe do a little bit what the Giants
did to you the other day in that football game.
The first quarter of that game it was twenty two
plays to six. Try and get some kind of and
we know something talking about the Bears offense. Bears offense
first drives have been really really good, so you know,
you might be in the situation. Hopefully Shoddy won't get
into a situation where he's all of a sudden, he's
(21:47):
he's feeling like pressure being down if it's seven nothing,
the fact that you don't you know, don't get that
done because but the Bears completely fall apart after the
first fifteen that they're there. There, They're completion percentage, all
the things start to go really really south for them.
So to me, I'm staying I'm staying steady. I'm gonna
try and establish the run and then put myself, keep
(22:08):
myself ahead of the change and then let dok Prescott
kind of pick and choose, maybe use that run for sure,
to set up some opportunities to take some shots down
the field.
Speaker 5 (22:18):
The Cowboys have been at their best when they just
have options and can do everything like if you can't
shut down the run and if you can't shut down
the pass, and they just get to decide what they
want to do. Brian, I think the Cowboys can be
really dangerous there. So like yesterday we were just we
were just talking, it sounds a little more dreary, like,
hey man, don't let the Bears get over. I don't
think this is the same tone that we're having today.
(22:40):
I think the Bears have a lot of problem. I
think one of the bigger issues when it comes to
passing the ball and why there may be more deeper
passes is.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
They just can't get to Dak like they they can.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
They can do all this moving around and you know,
the slants and stunts and all this kind of stuff,
But if they're just rushing four, they haven't really gotten
to Jared Goff or.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
Jjmccarthy.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
So if they haven't gotten to them, and Deck is
already a guy that can feel pressure, you know, so
if you're not getting him, he'll hold the ball.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
But if he's getting to He'll get rid of the
ball quickly.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
Bran, I just don't think that they're going to have
a lot of you know, positivity hitting deck this game.
Speaker 7 (23:14):
Yeah, I think so, and you and you mentioned I
think it's something very important Dak's feel in the pocket,
his ability to slide to move. I think they're going
to have to bring extra defenders. And if that's the case,
you know, Dak Prescott has a great history of being
able to play against the blitz and really there, I
didn't see anything totally exotic from the blitzings and anything
like that. You know, there was nothing crazy. We're like, wow,
(23:35):
that was a good combination. That was oh wow, there
it's at fire zone where also they're bringing the secondary
guy and dropping a guy out. You haven't seen really
any of that stuff from from Dennis Allen to make
me feel like that that he is going to affect
Dak that way. This is why I think when we
when we do our scores and stuff on Friday, I
kind of think it's going to be a shootout game
because I really don't know what Dallas defense is going
(23:56):
to show up. I don't know if if they're going
to make adjustments within their their secondary. I mean, could
Caleb Williams. I really do worry about him running the
football in this game. So to me, I think this
might be one of those kind of those back and
forth games, you know, until really both teams, both teams defense,
somebody's gonna have to make a stop. Dallas's defense was
able to make some stops in overtime. That was the
(24:17):
difference to that football game.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
Yeah, just one last thing.
Speaker 5 (24:20):
We're probably going in the break there Derry Grady Jered
can't play, but I think the Cowboys matchup just having
big Tyler and Bookers kind of going to neutralize that
a little bit. So I think the biggest thing you
have to worry about on Bears d line is just
like monte Is Black, Monte Is that's that's going to
be mostly guiding. I don't think they move him on
the other side of too much.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Brown.
Speaker 5 (24:38):
I haven't know them, So it's gonna be him and
guidance if you can, if you can deal with Montes,
and to be fair, Montes is a better matchup than
Brian Burns is, but Guiden still got to go in there.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
And fight for his life. If if you can win that,
that match up Brown the rest of it. Take care
of yourself.
Speaker 7 (24:51):
Thanks so too.
Speaker 6 (24:52):
All right, real quick before we go to break though,
I did want to ask you guys this. We've heard
a lot about this defense and how bad they are,
but as we know in the NFL, their times when
even bad units, bad teams figure it out. And so
if we come in here Monday morning, then we're like, man,
that Bears defense played really well and.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Gonna point it right.
Speaker 7 (25:12):
That's first.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
First.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
First she might even text you the night before at the.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
Game and be like, what the.
Speaker 7 (25:19):
Flight home?
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Right?
Speaker 6 (25:20):
But but what will be who are the players or
what are the parts of this unit that if they
have a successful day, they will be the reason why
they have a successful day.
Speaker 5 (25:30):
Monte Switt at right edge. You know the the Bears
last year, they weren't a great unit till he got there,
until they signed him. And I think he's he's gonna
be the one and its and it's really match up
base Like if this is Tyrone Smith versus Pante Swet,
you're not losing no rest about this at all. But
it's Tyler guiding and you know, Guyden still working through
some things. Had had a weird game last week, versus Burns.
(25:52):
Burns is just one of those top tier type guys.
Montez talented, not quite Burns, but Montez can give you issues.
So if we have a bad like a bad day
from left tackle, which is rough because I've seen Dak
deal with worse left tackle versus better ass situations. But
if it's gonna happen, is gonna be Montees or something
weird happens in the ring.
Speaker 7 (26:08):
Yeah, Grady Jarrett to me is if you know, and
I totally agree with watching this, but Grady Jared of
all of a sudden, if Tyler Booker gets into a
situation where he's not really dealing with Grady jack with
with Grady's Jareded's quickness, you know, if if he's finding
himself leaning in a little bit and then losing some
of those one on one battles, I mean, that's that
to me. Jared is a veteran guy. He kind of
(26:30):
knows the he knows how to kind of get himself
in position to make plays. You know, Tyler's got to
be very patient with the pass sets and stuff be
able to handle that, but also make sure that you
stay on this guy. Don't let him get away from you.
That's some of the things that happened when the Cowboys
have had have relaxed some success, you know, maybe running
the ball, throwing the ball. They just haven't finished blocks.
But Grady Jared's one of those guys that that could
(26:52):
can make some plays happen if you don't in fact
account for him the right way.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
If these get weird at the right tackles.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
But I'm so sorry, is this an Nate Timas type
sait like, We're just looking to see if there's a
Nate time situation and if dio ord Yingbo can get
tanor steel hard time.
Speaker 7 (27:07):
Yeah. The thing with the Rushes, like I said that
that's a group that has just a lot of the power.
That was more power than was quickness and the one
thing that steal. We've talked about this for ages and
it's no secret you watch him his past sets. There's
sometimes he really struggles with getting his foot his feet
set and then guys get in back and so that's
(27:27):
the things you always worry about with with the edge
and maybe two with the shoulder. You know, situation with
Guitton as well, how much power is there any is
he compromised in any way? But yeah, those are the
things that we'll give these Cowboys tackles problems if somebody
can walk them back into the into Dak.
Speaker 8 (27:45):
I was just gonna ask, based on everything that you
guys have said and the defense being so bad, but
also knowing how the Cowboys defense has been playing in
the past couple of weeks, is this a game where
you go in with the game plan of just trying
to run the clock and keeping your offense on the
(28:06):
field as much as possible, rather than go in from
the beginning attack throwing it getting in there, get the
points early on. Or do you go in saying let's
just play this smooth and safe and go slowly just
to not have to throw your defense out there as quick.
Speaker 5 (28:25):
I think the Cowboys offense operates at his best when
it's fearless and they whooping ass real fast. He can
get on the ball quickly, and they may slow it
down to get a look or to get you to
jump out sides, or to maybe like mess with the
defense or something like that. But when the Cowboys foot
is on the gas, I don't really want them to
take their foot off the gas. I want flues to
call defense that can stop out of team Detroit.
Speaker 7 (28:44):
Detroit put him in a stranglehold last week, moving fast,
moving fast, and they scored the points and it made
it made the Bears have to try and score along
with him. I think that this is a close game.
It's probably because you saw the quarterback running and making
some plays, or maybe he made some off platform throws,
or all of a sudden they figure out that DJ
Moore is really kind of a good receiver. And then
(29:04):
going against you know, going to get Steward in the
slot might be a best you know, they might be
winning those those battles. I I'm going to try and
score and make them have to score along with me.
But and maybe that takes him out of some of
the things that they would like to do.
Speaker 8 (29:20):
Is we're a reference. Where does the Troy's defense rank
right now?
Speaker 3 (29:27):
It's probably you got that in front of you, Derek.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
The numbers will look a little weird because the Bears
put up some imaginary twenty one points on them.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
But the game was way out of hand.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
But uh, I don't Yeah, I'll look that up.
Speaker 6 (29:39):
We're gonna have to break when we come back to

talk about We'll figure that out in the break.

Welcome back. We're in the final segment of the Break.
We'll live from the s WBC Mortge Studios at the Star.
Speaker 6 (32:27):
Amber had the question just before the break that she
should ask me in the break so that I could
have been ready for the answer. But I have the
answer now. Cowboys are Cowboys are third to last in
the NFL in defense. I guess that will be twenty ninth,
and the Lions are tenth tenth. That was your question there,
They are tenth. So probably helped that they played the Bears,
(32:50):
That's what I probably helped. And it certainly didn't help
the Cowboys that the Giants went crazy.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
And started doing it.
Speaker 6 (32:56):
Yeah, they have not done it in a long time.
But but yeah, anyway, that's their tenth in the league.
So all right, A couple questions I have for you guys.
Is this the week now, especially talking about the fact
that that this team is so compromised when it comes
to their run defense. Is just the week that maybe
we get to see Jayden Blue be active and maybe
they can get him involved in the offense. Or is
(33:18):
this just a week where you start to see them
use more than just Williams Uh, they use more of
their running backs because they want to run the ball
even more.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
Me and Brian talked about this, and he's a good
a good good friend of mine, so we talk all
the time. I don't think we're worried about Blue too much,
like like we're worried about Blue in a wave that
we have to rush him back and we have to
have him here. And now I think Javonte is doing
just fine. I think Blue is caught he's caught up
in that range that just right now, like that Mizi
(33:45):
and some of these other guys you know, you know,
like Toba are in right. Like the guys that are
over here are playing so well that hey man, hey,
Kenny Clark Makers not even think about Misy, you know,
you know, piggers Man, think about Tober. I think Javonte
Williams has such a handle on this thing, right And look,
just just to be clear, you would love if Jaydahen
Blue does everything well and he comes to play and
(34:05):
he goes and do fast things. That'd be fantastic. Just
as of now, Javontae Williams is doing just finance. I'm
not really harding for Blue right now.
Speaker 7 (34:13):
Yeah, to me, this is this is It started off
as kind of a surprise, a little bit of a
shock to the football system that Blue wasn't involved. You're
like going, huh, why, Okay, what are they seeing here?
Why do they do it?
Speaker 9 (34:25):
You know?
Speaker 7 (34:26):
But it really is about what Shoddy and them are
trying to do in the coaching staff. They're trying to
make these guys, you know, step up, be accountable, prepare,
be ready, and then go out there and execute the
best of their ability. And there's a couple of guys
right now that, like Boch was saying, Mozzie Smith. If
Mozzie Smith were not to play, I understand, it's not
(34:46):
a shock to my system anymore. Blue. Maybe Week one
shock to the system Week two not a shock, you know, now,
especially with your having some success. Now that's not to
say that Blue wouldn't get in there and run some
counters and things like that. But if the preparation part
of it is not matching what the coach's expectations are
for him to play, then you have to respect that.
(35:09):
And I'm okay with that because they are having some
success running the football with Williams. I was throwing dirt
on the guy. I didn't think that Williams is going
to be able to do as well as he has.
But the lines done a nice job and so is him.
But running the football, he's shown toughness and there's been
times where it's not always look pretty, but you're handing
the ball three or four times. I would hand in
(35:29):
the ball more. I absolutely would hand him the ball.
And you want to take some of Sanders carry, fine,
just keep handing the ball to Williams. That's a complete
back playing out there right now. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (35:40):
I mean, they're both doing well, and I think it
allows you to have that leisure where you're not rushing
to have Blue back. But at the same time, I
would love it to be more like a strategy type
of thing where you're like, Okay, in a game like this,
based on the analysis that you guys just provided about
the run defense, would be great to have the opportunity
(36:02):
to throw him out there because we know there's only
x amount of games where you can get legit NFL
type of experience, And it would be great because God
forbid something bad happens later in the season where now
you're forced to count on him and be more dependent
on him. But at the same time, we don't fully
(36:24):
know all the details of what is happening in the classroom,
what is happening in those meetings where what's happening there exactly,
and how is it currently being addressed, because now we're
heading into week three, so at some point you would
hope that that issue is corrected to the level of
(36:45):
where they make the decision to start incorporating him into
the game, because we all know his ability, we all
know what he did in college, and the different attributes
that he brings is completely different than the other two running.
So I would love to see the combination of Williams
and Blue in there. But again, a lot of things
(37:07):
that we don't know what's currently happening. But based on
everything that Brian Schottenheimer has said, and the way that
he is currently managing the team, I feel confident that
they're getting that issue taken care of.
Speaker 7 (37:21):
This is where I'll disagree with you, AG. I think
we know. I think Brian Schottenheimer's been really honest about this.
Speaker 8 (37:28):
You know, he you know, it's it's about no, he
said it, But at what point, Okay, we're I'm saying,
at what point does that start changing? Because we can't
sit here all season all year but be like, okay,
it's not learning. Okay, well what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (37:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (37:41):
No that now. I think that Brian Schottenheimer's clearly and
the coaching staff has put this on the player. Yeah,
if you want to be active every week and you
want to be a part of the offense, you need
to prepare differently. You need to do your whether it's
your studies, your game film analysis, your treatments, your workout.
There's a lot of things that go into being an
(38:02):
NFL player. It's not showing up and just all of
a sudden, you know. And again I'm not saying this,
you know, AG, anything towards you anything like that. But
I think Brian Schottenhammer's telling us he's not, and then
Jerry Jones is telling us. I think they're telling us
that this guy is not doing everything. And I again
I applaud because there's been times around here where guys
have been thrown out there and they're not doing everything
(38:23):
that they need to do. They threw Tyler Goeyton out
there last year, and Tyler Gouyden wasn't being a pro,
and I think his play suffered and the team suffered
because of it. So tip of the cap to the
coaches in hopefully, hopefully this is a Hopefully this is
one of those moments. And what I would really be
worried about is, all of a sudden, if jaydall Blue
(38:44):
becomes comfortable being inactive every week, that's the That's the
biggest issue that I would worry about. Then I would
go to the scouting department say why did we not
know this about this place?
Speaker 8 (38:55):
That's what I was going to say. That's the weird thing, Brian.
You've worked in the scouting department and I know sometimes
I know the amount of work that goes into it
and them looking literally at everything every single aspect of
the game, the mental, the physical, the everything, talking to
different coaches, everything so that is why it is why
(39:16):
I'm like, why, why.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Tell you why are we here?
Speaker 5 (39:19):
I will tell you why because on my board talent wise,
I had a I had a third on Blue.
Speaker 7 (39:24):
Absolutely he was.
Speaker 5 (39:25):
He was about right around there for YouTube. If you
get drafted in the fifth I think that's I think
that's that's that's what that means.
Speaker 6 (39:31):
And look, I agree with all this, and I like
the fact that coach is holding his players accountable to
the standard, whatever that standard is. I guess the way
I'm looking at it, though, is I would love a
scenario where you know, Blue is there and he's kind
of complimenting Williams. I'm not thinking take snaps away from Williams.
I'm thinking you can take some of those snaps right
(39:52):
now that maybe you're giving Sanders. And I'd love to
see Blue in those same scenarios and see what he
can do with that, because I do think he has
more speed. I think he as kind of that home
run ability.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (40:02):
I know that's how Texas used him. He was never
the lead back of Texas any of the years he
was there. He was a guy that you just bring
in and spell guys. But his abilities allowed him to
be a quick, quick hit type of guy. Games would
be stale and Texas wasn't gett anything going next thing,
you know, it's a pass, it's a run, whatever it is.
He finds a seam and he's off the seazes and
it has a way of opening up the game because
(40:24):
you have that kind of game breaking player.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
That's where I wull, that's the role I want to
see him.
Speaker 7 (40:28):
Well, it's sad though that the fact that Sanders is
kind of struggling like he is, and Blue has done
nothing to take Sanders off the field. It's very similar
to what's going on with you know, the whole thing
with Tolbert. We've had these discussions about these players here.
We were talking yesterday. It was a great question about
about Hey, well do you kind of limit what Turpens
record or role is. Well, you can't because nobody behind
(40:52):
him is pushing him to They need him to play,
you know. And and this is the case where Sanders
probably needs to sit, and he's not doing enough to
let Sanders sit. That's the thing that should really bother you.
Speaker 6 (41:04):
And by the way, if Cavante Turpin would have missed
the game, this would be an excellent game for Blue
to be able to step in and do some of
the things offensively that they want to do with Cavante Turpin.
So once again, if that happens and he's not able
to be active, that tells you even more he's not
