Absolutely?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Ready for a break?
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Yeah, and so much for that. It's time for the
Break on Dallas Cowboys dot Com. Were with Mbar.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
Garcia, Brian brought Us, Votch Lombardi and Derek Eagleton.
Speaker 5 (00:37):
It is Monday, November tenth, twenty twenty five, Season twenty one,
episode number seventy three. Welcome to the latest edition of
The Break. We are alive from that s WBC Mortgage
studios at the Star. We are presented by LG. LG's
the world's number one ol A TV brand for eleven
years incounting See why a LG dot com forward slash
O led Evo. Today we will we'll try to do
(00:58):
a couple of things here today. Obviously, there's there's a
there's a cloud that kind of exists over Cowboys Land.
It's been here since Thursday. At Thursday morning, I was
actually planning on sleeping in late. With it being the
bye week. I was trying to get some rest. I
was trying to spend a little time with the family,
just enjoy not thinking about football, and uh. And then
(01:18):
I got a call first thing in the morning, woke
me up. Actually, and I knew, of course, when you
see a coworker it's Nicole actually called me. But when
you see a coworker call in that early on the morning,
when everybody's supposed to, like I told our team get away,
and I get a call, my first thought is something's wrong.
And and then as she started to tell me what
(01:39):
was going on, obviously my first thought is this can't
be true. Certainly, this is just the Internet doing Internet things.
This can't be true. And the more the morning went on,
the more I found out this is very true. And
the Cowboys had lost their second year defensive end, Marshawn Kneeling.
I want to give everybody an our oportunity to just
(02:00):
kind of speak about it, but you know, I'll just
start by saying I didn't know Marshan particularly well. Being
with the team and traveling with the team and being
around in the locker room, I had the opportunity to
be around him, and and I think it's been said
probably more than anything else, is his infectious smile was
(02:23):
something that I think everyone noticed and also serves as
a representation for all of us that a smile does
not mean that everything is okay.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
And I think I don't want us to.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
I think if any of us don't don't think about
that more going forward with regard to the people that
are around us and taking the time to ask how
people are doing, taking the time. I saw Matt Ruhle
was talking about this and he was like, take your
headphones off and have the conversation. And I'm very bad
about I get my work mode and I'm busy and
I've got things going on, and I just don't all
(03:00):
always take the time. But if we don't take this
moment to really learn that it's important to check in
on the people that matter to you and people that
sometimes you might just see in a happening encounter. You
meet somebody, you see someone they don't feel it feels
like something's off with them. Sometimes just maybe asking how
are you doing and literally stopping and saying how are
you doing?
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Can make a difference. And Bro, I want to start
with you.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
I know you probably of all of us, probably had
more opportunity to work with Marshawn.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Just tell me about your impressions of him.
Speaker 6 (03:32):
I mean you said it beautifully with his infectious smile.
He was a guy that he had such a beautiful
smile and so young, very very young. And I only
had a few times that I interacted with him. We
weren't super close, but just like any other person, normal, kind, respectful,
(03:54):
and just full of life. But just like you said,
this is such a hard topic because yeah, we hear
it all the time of like talk to somebody talking
this or checking on somebody, and it's not that easy.
Is that you can be living next to that person
and not really realize what exactly they're going through. And
(04:16):
I know that he lost his mother not too long,
like a little before the draft. He did an interview
with Nicole Hutchinson. She works here Dallas Cowboy's reporter. The
interview is on dallascowboys dot com. And she asked him
about it and he started to cry. And I'm not
saying this is the reason, like, no one really knows
(04:39):
what he was struggling with at the time this whole
thing occurred, but the fact that he was so emotional
about it, you can still see that there's pain behind
the eyes and still mourning. I mean, the stuff losing
the mother whenever in life, but just at the age
(05:00):
where he was about to start his career, about to
really turn into a full grown adult. That is very devastating.
Speaker 7 (05:09):
And I know the.
Speaker 6 (05:11):
Cowways have the resources, and I know a lot of
people questions like, well, you have money, and you have
this and you have that. It doesn't matter. None of
that matters at the end of the day, even if
you have the resources around you, especially as a man,
I know it is very very difficult for you to
talk and open up and discuss certain things that you're
(05:34):
struggling with because the reality is you don't understand it yourself,
and a lot of people don't understand it either, so
it's hard to communicate. So whoever is listening right now,
the main thing is that that you're not alone. It
happens to so many of us. I struggle with it
(05:55):
to myself, and the one thing that is comforting is
knowing that you're not the only one going through things.
It's different situations, different scenarios, but there are so many
of us that deal with mental problems, whether it's depression, anxiety,
panic attacks, whatever form it is. We all react to
(06:18):
it differently, and when you're in it, it's very difficult
for you to see the light at the end of
the tunnel, and you just want the pain to go away.
And that's why so many people lose their lives because
at the moment, you're in this space where you really
see no resolution, and the best thing to do is
(06:39):
to reach out for help, get on their treatment and
find out what you can do, because I promise you
even if it does if at the time I've been
on the low, I've been on the ground praying to God,
and I always come out of it. It's just the cycle.
So you have a full life ahead of you and
(06:59):
you're out by yourself and know that there is help
out there that you can reach out. And I know
this is very difficult, and you see, you know what's
devastating is like you see Dak being such an advocate
for as for help and then it's like a teammate,
this happens to someone that's very close. So it's it's
(07:21):
hard to give an answer because I don't even have
the answer, but just know that you're not alone and
the best thing to do is ask for help. And
it's just it's very I'm still trying to process everything
because it's so hard. It's so hard to imagine that
someone's so young. After coming out of that game where
he had such a big play, where you think, wow,
(07:43):
such a successful moment after all the criticism happening throughout
the season for the defense overall, and then you get
such a big breakout play where you score a touchdown
and you're celebrating. You would imagine, oh, yeah, you should
be on top of the world and happy, but that's
not the reality. Sometimes the smile is facade, and what
(08:05):
you're dealing with inside just it's it's tough. It's tough,
and it's hard to process and deal with it. But
the best thing is to talk about it.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Yeah, the news was tough, it was difficult. It kicked
off as a rumor and like, boy, that's a terrible
roomor for it to be a you know, to be that, but.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
It ended up being like a like a real thing.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
And the first thing I did was I just text around,
I just checked in on my people, just tapped in
it with some of my YouTube friends, some of the
people I've met here at a dot com and you know,
conversation goes a long way.
Speaker 6 (08:41):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Prior to all this YouTube content, I worked at a
mental health hospital for six years and I de escalated
a ton. I've seen it all, but it never gets easier.
And you'd be surprised if somebody's like an inch away
from something. Hey, man, what's up, hey bro, what's going on?
Da da da da da da da da da da.
We'll come talk to you for a minute, you know,
(09:03):
just twelve hours a day, five days a week. Hey,
let me come talk. That was that's a that's a
that's an intro to everything, no matter what the issue. Hey,
let me just I'm just how ed four second and
let somebody get it off their chest. Let somebody get
something off they mind. I think you know nowadays people
are so isolated. You know, we put these headphones on,
(09:23):
we walk around, people on these phones, text and you
don't really get a chance to interact with a lot
of people all the time.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Right. I was kind of boring to raise to just
bother the hell out of how you doing, what's going on?
How you doing it? It's a greeting, but how you doing?
What's happening? What's happening?
Speaker 4 (09:37):
You may run into somebody that'll respond to your what's
happening with Hey, if just can I talk to you
for a minute. Now, it's on me to be approachable. Yeah,
what's up? So I just challenge everybody to be approachable.
Take the headphones out, get off the phone, because you
never know who you're gonna run into that might need
to just get some off their chest, some off their mind.
Just just a quick story of working at the hospital.
(09:59):
And I learned and so much from just one man.
Uh worked at NASA. Job you can't even pronounce. He's
a hypro syphilis shrifler therapist. He keeps aliens from taking
over the earth. Best job in the world, millions of dollars.
And I'm just like, you know, just naively, Hey man,
what you what you're doing here? You know, like I'm broke,
(10:20):
and hey.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
What you what you're doing?
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Ahead?
Speaker 3 (10:21):
What you you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
And he lost a friend, just somebody close to him,
and that spiraled him in a ridiculous way. And what
that taught me was depressed, ain't sad. You can get
up and walk off sad. Depressed your legs don't work.
And now you know, you could be conflicted with things
in your mind that you can't get off of. Because
(10:44):
it's so much deeper than just saying it's something that
just takes over your entire existence and you just can't
control it.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
So we just can't be.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
Like, oh, how I can't understand how or man you
got everything? How man you can have a million million
whatever is, you can have a nice whatever, great life,
blockpunt whatever.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
You just never know because once something kicks into you,
you don't have control to just get out of that.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
You need the help.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Cancer has been funded for three thousand years. Mental health
only got a decade and a half, you know, to
two decades where the government is saying, hey, let's put
some work into figuring out what's actually going on so
that we can fix this kind of stuff. So mental
health is still very young. But if you have any signs,
if you going through anything, just reach out and get
some help because there's a ton of resource, but we
(11:33):
won't know until you tell us.
Speaker 7 (11:35):
Yeah, usually the locker room is a place where you
can you can be a little bit vulnerable with your situation,
with your emotions and stuff. And you know, we talk
about in football, how you know tough and hard and
things are and you know, and how you have to
fight through things and all that. Well, this just goes
to show you that there's really there's just no place
(11:55):
sometimes you know that you can turn to even if
you have a room full of brothers and some some
sisters have now been added to these to these locker rooms.
You know, you have to be able to to go
forward and say that. But you know, you don't want
to be that guy that's always you know that is
not looked at as a tough guy. But that that
was from my era of football. You know, we're in
(12:15):
a new era of football. We're in a new era
of life where people are able to step forward and
and and and say, hey, I'm having problems. This is difficult.
And I thought everybody around the table here said the
absolute right thing about what needs to be done. I'll
say this. I'm going to focus on the young man.
He was a developing football player. He really really was.
(12:35):
He was a guy that we had some questions about
coming into the draft and stuff. But you know what,
he got better every time you watched him play, he
got a little better. And that's the thing that was
a credit for him that he was all the things
that he was going through, that he came and did
his job every single day, and it was getting better
at it. And it's unfortunate though that that that development
(12:57):
has now been cut short. And but I totally you know,
it's one of these things that like, you don't always
have to be the toughest guy in the room. You
really really don't. You can tell people, hey, I need
your help, and if you're really really a friend of somebody's,
you will help. You'll listen, You'll be better listeners for.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
It's I do want to before we go to break,
I want to read this post that Solomon Thomas had
via his Instagram. He said, brother, Marshawn, I love you.
I wish you knew it was going to be okay.
I wish you knew the pain wouldn't last. And how

wanted you to stay. My heart breaks for you and
(13:38):

Speaker 2 (16:55):
Welcome Back.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
It is the second segment of The Break live from
the SWBC Mortgage studios at the Star. The second's brought
to you by blockchain dot Com.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
All right, So here's the thing.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
One thing that I know for me personally, and I
assume it's for most people out there that are listening,
is sports entertainment. It is our diversion. It is what
gets us away from the really, really tough things about life,
because we all got tough things going on in our
lives from time to time throughout life.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
And uh. And so what we have been.
Speaker 5 (17:27):
Charged with doing, what a lot of our job is
about here is it's being media for the Cowboys or
talking about the Cowboys, is to help make that that
distraction enjoyable for you guys.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
And so we're gonna do that.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
We're going to spend the rest of this show talking
about the team as you guys have come to expect
from us. And in no way is it meant to
be disrespectful in any way to what's going on. We
understand the gravity of it, but at the same time,
we also feel like we want to bring a smile
to you, and we want to bring you some enjoyment
and and and let you know.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
That we're going to get through this.
Speaker 5 (17:59):
We we will as a group, we will get through
this and we'll be okay.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
So here's what we're going to do. In the second segment.
We're going to do a little bit of a mid
year review.
Speaker 5 (18:08):
We're going to talk a little bit about what's happened
over the first half of this season that's led the
Cowboys to a three five and one record. But you know,
but there's one of the good things is we got
a comedian. It's funeral on here with us.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
The best part about a funeral is you got one
uncle that'll tell the jokers just kind of yeah, lift
it all off a little bit, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
So I've here.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
You know, I've actually told my I told my wife
and my daughter. We were having a conversation about, you know, death,
and I told them, I said, when I passed away,
what I need you guys to do, don't spend money
on an expensive casket. Don't spend money on an expensive
bouquet of flowers.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
I'm gone.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
What I want you to do is, I want you
to take that money, and I want you to hire
the best comedian that you can get, and I want
you to bring them and I want you to have
a memorial service where you let that person talk about
my life in whatever term they want to talk about
it because my goal, because my goal is my goal
is I want everyone to leave there not having memorialized me,
but do it in a way to where everyone.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Walks away with a smile.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
And and I think, I think that is how I want,
how I choose to be remember And that's also how
I deal with death personally. For me, like I've dealt
with death throughout my life, I dealt with as a
young person, and so it like comedy has been my outlet.
It's been my way to kind of deal with those emotions.
And so I get that.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Likewise, I'm not getting fired today. But likewise, for sure,
you know what I'm saying. You gotta you gotta kind
of loosen up the room and get everybody back on train.
Speaker 7 (19:39):
I've I've got you beat already. Derek Helman told me
he's going to deliver my eulogy.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
That would David.
Speaker 7 (19:46):
Hellman is going to stand up there and tell you about.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
Can we last?
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (19:49):
Sure? Yeah. I hope it doesn't happen too soon. I've
already talked to Helmet.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Need you.
Speaker 7 (19:55):
I've already talked to Helme and I said, listen, I
want you to go up there and stand up there,
and talk about me when this is all same, that.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
That is is better than any coming.
Speaker 9 (20:02):
I think.
Speaker 7 (20:02):
I think he'll encapsulate everything that I you know, the
LSU brothers that we are, but I think the age
difference and the fact that he and I he is,
he is, he is one of my favorite people. So
but yeah, I know where you're going with that. I
understand what you're doing.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
All right, here's what we're gonna do.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
Let's talk a little bit about what's happened so far
in this first half of the season. My first question
for you guys is which was the better offensive addition,
George Pickens or Javonte Williams.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
I'll speak for Willias because I know Brian's gonna talk
about Pickings. I got his answer, But I just think
Williams brings so much like toughness to the party, so
much tough running to the party, and that's infectious.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Pickings got some infections too, bro, Bra.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
But but but you know, picking Williams kind of kind
of makes it easier for everybody else, which is why,
you know, like if I could tell Shotty one thing,
he don't watch the show, but if I could tell
shot is just just one thing, like hey man, even
if we're getting down in some of these games. Sometimes
I know it's tough, but try not to get away
from the run game. I know sometimes in this uh
you know, in this attempt to catch up to uh,
(21:07):
you know, the points and all this kind of stuff.
Defense may be down and you're trying to catch up fast.
It may benefit the Cowboys offense to catch up slow,
because as soon as you stop running, everything looks totally different.
You look at Arizona Cardins Game Boy, the run game
was there. I would say even in Denver, the run
game was there. I just I just wish, you know,
we lean into that a little bit more. But Javonte
has been fantastic for and I don't think we can
(21:28):
afford him. I don't think we'll be able to bring
him back. He's looking like a ten million dollar back
next year.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
I'm gonna go with Pickens and damn right.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Hey manball talk.
Speaker 7 (21:40):
Let her talk well, even.
Speaker 6 (21:42):
Though even though I have you have seen we'll be quiet.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
You're like, let her.
Speaker 6 (21:50):
Talk, but that won't be quiet.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Where you go.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Please let her talk.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Let her talk for more, ma'am.
Speaker 6 (22:01):
Even though I have seen the same things that you
guys have seen as far as the different backs that
the Cowboys have carried over the years. Somehow I still
hold onto this belief that with a good offensive line
you can make most decent backs be successful. Sure, some
(22:25):
are tougher than others, and some will give you those
extra yards with that push, but I'm still holding onto
that theory. I don't know why because I've seen the
ones that haven't been as good, But as long as
you have a good offensive line, you're gonna get usually
the best out of a running back. Now, with the
(22:49):
wide receivers, it's been a while since the Cowboys have
had two really good wide receivers. So yes, I'm putting
that number one on my list because I'm enjoying what
i'm seeing. I was lacking some of that. I was
still in the whole wide receiver by committee era. Moving
on from that, and now you feel like you're more subtled.
(23:10):
I do hope that they do give him a contract
because I want two wide receivers are stable, constant and
can keep going. Here with the Cowboys and George Pickens
his special his special branding cooks, we saw some potential there,
but he never got really going. He had some success
(23:31):
Mike McCarthy he had a slight success but never really
worked out. So again, I'm just I'm enjoying a lot
more what I see from George Pickens. However, that's a
tough question, Derek, because they're bull valuable able.
Speaker 7 (23:55):
I can't get over the soul. Mike McCarthy thinks it
ain't fake. It's not fake, you know what. To me,
this offense I think would completely have fallen apart Ceedee
Lamb went out for several games. And what happened. You
did not miss a beat, you really did. Your offense
was still functioning. Yeah, Williams running the football, the offensive line.
I have some questions about your offensive line right now,
you know, to be honest with you. Yeah, But but
to me, you know Williams for what he did, I
(24:18):
think this is we could talk about scheme, we could
talk about coaching, we could talk about players. But Votch
is right. He's shown a lot of toughness running the football,
and I think that's something as admirable. But you think
about having this offense without Ceedee Lamb playing in it,
you know, Dak Prescott not having somebody to throw the
football to. George Pickens stepped up in those games he
was out, and George Pickens every week gives you a
(24:41):
chance because he plays. He plays exceptional football. You know,
Williams is very has played very well. I think George
Pickens has played at at completely another level. And I
think there's there's a side of me that is this.
There's certain games, in certain situations where I think George
Pickens has been a better player than Ceedee lamb, go
ahead there, do the right thing.
Speaker 5 (25:02):
I will tell you I agree with Amber and Bryant
on this one mainly because mainly because when you when
you think about what George Pickens has done, and when
you think about the fact that quite frankly we're seeing
right now from Rico dawdle, the Cowboys probably could have
done this last season if they would have committed to
(25:23):
actually running the ball earlier in the season.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
I don't. I don't know that.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Yeah, I don't. I don't know that.
Speaker 5 (25:30):
This is a so much about Javonte Williams as much
as it is about shoddy and shoddy having an offensive
mind from the standpoint.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Of we are going to run the ball. He does,
he does.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
But but I do think the rico' dondle we're saying
it this year really good running back. He is a
really good running back, and Cowboys had him and did
not use him to that potential. And so yes, I
think Javonte Williams has been a great addition. I think
he does some things and I think personally he does
some things that that that Rico maybe on the Rico's
game in the same way, I think the tough style
(26:03):
with which he runs, I think is a little bit
unique to him relative to those two backs. But all
those things being considered, man, when Pickens came in here,
he changed the complexion of this offense.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
And certainly I don't think.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
They would have been able to move the ball because
we've seen this happen before when CD was out. If
they didn't have George Pickens, I don't think they would
have moved the ball effectively at all.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
I think he has meant a ton of this team.
Speaker 5 (26:27):
And I agree with you, Brian, I think at moments
that during this year, even when CD is in there,
he looks like he is he is the guy that's
been a little bit more productive for you at times.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
But yeah, I go with you, guys with George Pickens
on now.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Well, I tell you what this would be the last
time I try to be a good podcaster, right, because
the correct answer is pickings.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
But yeah, let me take that. I was trying to
be a good podcast can't favorite.
Speaker 7 (26:54):
Us a favorite? Then okay, you have another question real quick?
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Yeah, take take no, take take.
Speaker 7 (26:59):
The all right, I'm gonna take the Williams approach. You
take pickings.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
I think some of your biggest plays come from come
from pickings. And you know, lamb may may be the
better work in the offense and move to chains and
and I don't want to. I don't feel right talking
about cde Lambing that way because he's a he's a
fantastic player as well. But all the big tests, sure,
all all the big plays, all the game change and plays,
all the when you need to catch the toe taps
(27:25):
on the sidelines, the big stuff, the pi s it
has it has been pickings for sure.
Speaker 7 (27:29):
Yeah, I tell you what. The thing with Williams though,
and you mentioned the element of toughness that he's brought.
He is a complete back. They've been searching for a
complete back here for a while, a guy that can
pick up. They don't use him enough to catching the ball.
By the way, that's another thing. But there there is
a you can make a really, really really good argument
some people can, others can't about Williams being the best
(27:51):
player here, you know, in this situation. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (27:54):
The other thing out through on too, as you were
talking about CD and relative to George Pickens, Yeah, I
actually think it's a great thing that George Pickens has
had those moments because what it's going to do is
in the second half of this season. Watch what I'm
telling you. It means CD's gonna have some huge, humongous games.
And I think it's going to happen because teams have
to think about Pickings as justice lethal weapon as they
(28:15):
do CD, and sometimes when you have that new addition
to a team, teams still say we're gonna first take
away CD. We're gonna make you prove to us that
you can do it without CD or with a limited CD.
They've proven that now they know George Pickens can have
those kinds of games, and so I do think that
in the second half of the year you're gonna see
some of those games from CD where he's gonna just
go absolutely ham and have a great, great game because
(28:39):
he's got that other compliment on the other side of
the field. All right, let's move on to the next
question I have for you guys. Which of these players
is that is Dallas relying on most to have an
impactful second half. Trayvon Diggs, the Marve and Overshown are
Donovan Wilson.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
I think I think Jerry put a ton of pressure
on the linebacker.
Speaker 13 (29:01):
Man.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
I think when you know Demo comes back, I mean,
it's it's on you and then his own flues.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
But hey, man, we got you a.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
I mean, after the trades, it's all on over Shawk,
it's all on I think it is all on Ocean.
Speaker 5 (29:17):
Now.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
You can be like, hey, we got you quinn in
to help over shonn Yea, or we got you Logan
to assist we overshow, But this is this is Overshon's
problem right now. So I think the cawboy if he
shows up as that guy, and it's so unfair to
ask of him off a major injury like that, but boy,
he did it last year. I thought I thought that
that last year's Andrey was going to be a set back,
and he was ten toes down whipping feet. So I
(29:39):
would just hope that he does the same thing.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Please, my question.
Speaker 6 (29:41):
So with Logan Logan, when he was traded, I know
it was mentioned a lot he is automatically your best linebacker.
Was that taking into consideration like a healthy overshown or
what the word the overshown line up there?
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Yeah, well we all knew that that he was go
to come back but be more of like a will
linebacker type guy. So I think we're looking for Mike's.
We're looking for Mike's and you know, green dyke backers.
And I still think they're gonna maybe move green dot
around because Logan just got here. I don't know, we'll
see it just depends on how fast he can, you know,
pick things up. But I think we've always thought it's
(30:18):
overshown and who uh will be so positive to day man,
I'm gonna say that's about nobody man, But.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Yeah, Logan, But but yeah, Logan Wilson.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
I knew Logan was gonna come right in and we
would just get better by simply just playing him a
little bit more.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Of as a sign up real quick, you said Mike
linebacker For those who don't know, that means middle linebacker.
He said, will linebacker. That means weak line week side
linebacker for those that don't don't don't know that furbige.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
I can get I can get super nerd and tell
you sometime the Mike ain't always the mic.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
But that is fair.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Yeah, that's fair.
Speaker 5 (30:45):
Yeah, I'm just saying in general terms, when you hear
Mike music, the middle here will usually that's the week
side weeks who.
Speaker 7 (30:51):
Won the defenses? Running down? Anybody who in the like
the first nine ten weeks is run down. You talk
about pressure, Yeah, they don't. They don't have they haven't
had any speed on defense. Now you potentially have that speedback.
Who's the guy that's going to make plays behind the
line of scrimmage, Who's the guy that's going to run
somebody down in the flat? Who's the guy that's going
to make maybe a blitz of a sack. They haven't
(31:11):
had that guy. You talked about pressure, Yeah, it's clearly
on that that that zero out there. I mean, he
is a he is they that he is going to
hopefully bring to them something they haven't had in nine games,
and that's somebody that can play with the burst and
can finish plays because this this defense has been giving
up huge plays and hopefully he'll be a guy that
(31:34):
will limit some of those.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Well, here's the deal.
Speaker 6 (31:37):
You mentioned Trevon, But then when when are you expecting
him back?
Speaker 5 (31:43):
Look, that's the thing, here's my deal. I look at
these players and the ones I just named, I heard
you say is the easy answer.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
I don't think it is. Because they got they got
help for.
Speaker 5 (31:53):
The defensive line, they got helpful the linebackers. They didn't
bring in any help for the secondary. And Brian, you
just mentioned all those big plays. A lot of those
big plays right now are happening deep down the field.
You got issues where your secondary is having some issues.
We've been hearing about communication since the beginning of the season.
So for me, when I look at this question, yes,
(32:14):
I think Demarveon overshown should help. I think right now
the biggest area where they're going to need and the
question was who is Dallas relying on most to have
an impactful second half? I think it has to be
one of those guys in the secondary, because if they
don't get that impactful second half from one of those
guys and this secondary doesn't solidify, I don't care how
(32:36):
much help you got for the defensive line, how much
help you got for the linebackers, you're still gonna have problems,
especially against some of these teams you got to play
that have some really really big time receiving options and
really good quarterbacks. That's gonna be a challenge for them
if they can't get that level of play when those
guys come back.
Speaker 7 (32:53):
I think you have a better chance. This is going
to sound crazy with what guys like Revel and Carson
and those guys showing up that.
Speaker 5 (33:01):
Which, by the way, you've you mentioned on the break
sounds like Revel is gonna Revel.
Speaker 7 (33:05):
Revel and overshow both are full goes. So there's a
possibility that you know, both of them are going to
be active this week playing and how much you use Revel,
you know, but you're you're you're absolutely right. You're going
to need somebody in the secondary play. And my hope
is though that you know that one of these guys
that I just mentioned does show up. And I know
he hasn't played. We haven't ever seen him play. Heck,
(33:27):
we haven't seen him play a preseason game. But you
know what, to me, there there needs to be some
changes in the back end and maybe you can get
you know, let's be honest, Bland did not play very
well last week, but we've seen Bland play better. Unfortunately,
though this secondary is not good and and there's been
it hasn't been good with Digs playing in some of
(33:47):
those games. So I think there, I think that's something
we need to look at and.
Speaker 6 (33:51):
See your question a little differently because on one and
expectation wise, I expect more out of over Shown because
we know what he can do, We're excited about his
comeback and all of that. At the same time, you
get some help at defensive tackle, which in essence is
going to help the linebacker position, which you also got
(34:12):
help at, and now you're adding Overshown. So even if
he struggles a little bit, I think you're gonna, at
least me, I'm gonna cut him some slack because he's
returning from a pretty big significant injury. Now moving on
to the secondary, Trevon Diggs at this point, I don't
(34:32):
know what to say because I'm still I know, with
the whole concussion thing, it's been mentioned, he's under his
other injury on what is it that they need that
he's still struggling with and all that, But I think
the biggest pressure is right there. I don't know what
it looks like in the contract. I know he got
it not too long ago, but at this point, let's
(34:53):
say he doesn't do much. I mean, do you cut
him by the end of the like heading into next year.
I don't know contract wise what it looks like. But
at the end of the day, what has he actually
given you this year? And yes, I'm being also, you
have to look at the injuries. You can't dismiss that.
But at the same time, you you hear things and
you see things, and it's just like all kind of
(35:15):
pilot up.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
Well, I think I think that's the conversation that will
be had at the end of the season.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
I think for right now, and it's one of the
things I've I've.
Speaker 6 (35:21):
Been very That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
He would be the one I think about his pressure.
Speaker 5 (35:25):
I think I think Dallas is a better team with
him on it right now, and so I think they
are relying on him. I think on him when he
comes back. If they're going to have any kind of
success for the rest of the season, they're gonna need
Trayvon Diggs to be Trayvon Diggs. They're gonna need to
be They're gonna need him to be the guy that
he's been at his best for this team because that.
Speaker 7 (35:48):
Level Land just needs to be thrown.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
Agree with that.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
But I'll tell you this, I'm not as concerned about
Bland because Blaine had a bad game. But we've seen
Bland even what was this two three weeks ago, he
had a really great game. I think Bland is a guy,
by the way, playing cornerback in the National Football League.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
There are gonna be days like that. Trust me, They're.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
Gonna watch any cornerback in the league. There are gonna
be days like that when man, you just you getting
you're getting beat up, and that's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
But that being said, I'm not worried about Bland right now.
Speaker 5 (36:17):
I just think from the standpoint of getting his body right,
more than anything else, that's what you need from Treyvon
dis because I think a Trayvon dig a healthy Trayvon
Digs is more than capable providing for the secondary what
they need. He just got to get his body right,
and if he can get his body right, I think
that's who the Cowboys are gonna be relying on more
than anybody else in the second half to really have
a better half and to help propel them to some success.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
There are we gonna take our final break. When we
come back, I have a list of players.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
I'm gonna ask you, guys, which player would be most
impactful if they had more playing time.

It is the final segment of The Break live from
the s W Supportage studios at the Star. Leave me alone,
Here's what we're gonna do. I got one more question
for you guys before we end the show today. I
got four names. Which of these players will be most
impactful for Dallas with more playing time?
Speaker 7 (39:43):
Stop it?
Speaker 3 (39:44):
What's going on? Man?
Speaker 5 (39:45):
Ryan LLINOI, Nate Thomas, Debian Clowney or Brevins van Ford?
Speaker 3 (39:52):
What was the question?
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Which of these players will be more impactful?
Speaker 3 (40:00):
With more playing time, all right, and name again please, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (40:03):
Ryan Flinoy, Nate Thomas, Youdevian Clowney for Brevin Span.
Speaker 3 (40:08):
For clown Clowny Cloudy. Okay.
Speaker 4 (40:10):
Uh So where I'm at, where I'm at with that
room in particular. Uh, you know, there's a lot of
rotating going on. I think it's in the uh it's
in white Cotton's tool belt to like rotate all this, guys,
I think you need to like hunker down on a
little bit of that. And they have been doing that,
which I've noticed. But I kind of want to play
the best guys the most, So I need Donvinezaraku to
(40:30):
get most to go, and also I need Clowney to
get most to go. Just come off when you tied,
and we'll just move on from there, just for the
sake of podcasting. You know, we were just up here talking.
I think Brevin should get a clup. More shots too,
shots out, don't Luke man. Luke hadn't necessarily done anything
to lose his job, per se, you know what I mean.
He ain't messing up, he ain't doing nothing wrong. But
(40:53):
I think Brevin gives you so much more as a
blocker and then when he catches the football, he's two
hundred and seventy He's a big dude. Cornerbacks ain't really
trying to tackle two hundred and seventy pounds. And when
we've seen Brevin catch passes, it looks that way. When
when we've seen him thrash people blocking, it's been that way.
You ain't got a fire Luke or nothing like that.
(41:13):
But I would love to see a little bit more
Brevin and consistently more Clowny. He need to be starting
with Novinez Rocket.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (41:19):
I think all of those names are really good ones,
and they could all benefit from having more playing time.
But for me, the one that stands out the most
would be Clowny, mainly because it's in an area that
you really really need extra help, You really need to
be more impactful in there. So we've seen we've started
seeing flashes of him, and I wonder, now, even with
(41:42):
the new addition, how much better that can improve? How
much more can you get to the quarterback? So I
would say Clowney mainly because of the position.
Speaker 7 (41:54):
Man, I'll tell you this is the game that's dangerous
because I'm screaming for Nate Thomas to play and he
goes out gives up a bunch of pressures the other
day at right tackle. I'm worried about that, you know.
So you know, if if I felt really good about it,
I would say, yeah, put Nate Thomas in at right tackle.
Let's go. And maybe it's a deal where if you
put him in there for sixty plays and not you know,
(42:15):
and not just nineteen, that you might have a better
or hell you might give up more pressures. Who knows.
It was just a poor game for him overall in it.
It kind of hurt my confidence a little bit there
with him. But I'll say this though, I think it's
spanned Ford and I and you talk about schoon Maker,
you know, I think there's things that span Ford absolutely
(42:35):
does better than Luke Skoonmaker. I think the blocking aspect
of it is clearly better. Like he now catches the
football pretty well. And I think you could you could
get stuff out of him for him just coming in
the game as a point of attack player, an occasional
guy here and there. I don't think I think you
need to hit give him more second team reps real quick.
Speaker 5 (42:52):
On the On the topic of Nate Thomas, could it
have been that maybe he's been spending a lot more
time on the left side than the right, and then
throwing him in the right maybe he just wasn't as
ready for that.
Speaker 7 (43:03):
And then they scream at us because they're like, well
what about playing guy and at right tackle? You know,
then you know, we forget that. We act like there
is it's a difference. Left tackle and right tackle is different.
Speaker 2 (43:15):
And when we seen him at left tackle, Nate's been
pretty good. That's where it is.
Speaker 5 (43:18):
I want to at least give him the benefit of
the doubt. Abe, this was one that maybe the situation
where he was not as prepared to play right tackle.
Speaker 7 (43:25):
I think I think he has to be ready regardless.
I think he has to be ready, you know. And
I'm sure some scout team reps they put him in
at right tackle left you know, he's got to be
ready regardless. But like I said, there was there was
a time, maybe a couple of weeks ago. What I've
just my answer would have been immediately, Nate, Tom and
I have I have concerns about about steel. I have
(43:46):
concerns there and but we've heard the coaches have come
out here recently and talked about there is a legitimate
competition at right tackle, so you know we might get
our wish on that one.
Speaker 4 (43:56):
Terrence has had his issues and it should be a competition. Yeah,
I think sometimes, you know, I'll just say we include myself,
But we get a little too much dip on our chip.
Speaker 3 (44:06):
With the new guy sometimes, you know, I totally.
Speaker 4 (44:09):
Sometimes we read a new guy and go, hey man,
he looked good versus whoever, let's play him a lot more.
And you know, consistency takes a lot more than just
looking good against whoever cared, you know what I mean?
Sometimes we get a little too ahead of ourselves. Terres
may be making you sick, but Terres.
Speaker 3 (44:28):
Couldn't feel that way.
Speaker 7 (44:30):
Do you feel that way real quick? About corner? That
too much dip under chip?
Speaker 1 (44:34):
Or is it?
Speaker 7 (44:35):
Or you've seen about which new guy just like a
Carson uh revel And I mean, we haven't seen, but
when we saw Carson play that day. The fact that
the guy is new and we haven't seen is that
where we're at right now? You're just thinking or it
couldn't be any worse.
Speaker 4 (44:51):
I think the difference there is that I saw Nate
all Camp, I saw all Camp, I saw all these guys.
Speaker 7 (44:57):
That's fair.
Speaker 3 (44:58):
We got three coiners. I don't know what they like.
Speaker 4 (45:00):
I don't know what what Josh Butler looks like this year.
Revel Kaitlyn played thirty something play last game, but just
prior to that, I had no clue. So I think
it's time to just kind of try those guys just
to see what they have.
Speaker 5 (45:12):
Let's also be clear, I think, for at least I'll
speak for myself. I'm taking clues from what I'm seeing
on the field. It seems like the Cowboys are kind
of searching for who those guys are because they're moving
around different games, they have different guys out there. It
feels like they are like, we haven't quite found the
right grouping of cornerbacks that we feel like are our guys,
like they are the guys we're gonna rely on now.
(45:34):
As part of that, they've been these injuries, people going
in and out. But I do think it feels like
there isn't a solidified group. And from that standpoint, I
think I look at it and say, well, who are
the other guys that should be a part of this conversation, because.
Speaker 4 (45:45):
I don't think they've really settled on who the guys
really are. I kind of blame that on flues. We're
doing some of these first three weeks. Now we're doing
something different the next three weeks. Now we're trying something
else this next three weeks, and it's kind of hard
to get a feel for who your corner group should be.
We just had to we just had to talk here, like, Hey,
we may get a different group of corners because we're
gonna play more man this week, or a different set
(46:06):
of these guys we're playing more zone versus this quarterback.
I don't think you should have a rotating group of
six corners like that. I'm gonna steal your question real quick.
Could you play next to the Quinn Williams next to him?
Speaker 5 (46:16):
Yeah, it's on a situation, like I will put it
like this, I am very much comfortable with almost any
of the other defensive tackles being next to him on
specific downs based on what you're trying to get and
the matchups, because I might want different things, Like I think,
if I really want to be stout because I got
(46:37):
again a team where that's really gonna try to run
the ball, put him and Kenny out there together and
let's see what happens with that. I think they're gonna
all rotate throughout the game. Sure, if I want to
get more upfield, and this is a game where I
really got to get some internal some pressure on the inside,
on the interior, then then maybe it's it's osa right,
and I just think it fluctuates.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
I just all four of them.
Speaker 5 (46:56):
I like all four of your defensive tackles right now,
and I'm like, mix them and match them. However you
want to mix them and match them, because I think
you're going to be better off than when you were
two weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (47:05):
Will this team on first down verse the Raiders first
player of the game, which is supposed to be a
running down, Will they put your money man veteran here,
team captain got on the bench because Clark and Quinn
are more stout versed.
Speaker 2 (47:19):
To run, I would. I can't tell you what they
would do, but I would.
Speaker 3 (47:23):
I ask you what they'll do? What they would do?
Speaker 4 (47:25):
See see what we would do is easy answers because
we all think we make sense. What they would do gets.
Speaker 5 (47:33):
And by the way, and by the way, they have
other things to consider too, sure, because because their decisions
reverberate in the locker room, and you have to be
aware of how's decision going to play in the locker room,
how is it going to affect the people that are
around them on a day to day basis, And well,
I don't have to deal with that. I'm just like, hey,
I just I'll throw this guy out there. So I
have a hard time thinking, oh, so it's not a starter.
(47:55):
When you get to that game, I know, can Quinn
William's gonna start like, there's no way he doesn't start.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
Right, So that maybe that's your answer.
Speaker 4 (48:05):
He'll quinnin Williams and Logan Wilson a dagum captain badge.
Because there was captains where they came from, they gonna
be captains here too.
Speaker 5 (48:11):
All right, man, we appreciate you guys joining us. I
know it's been a rough few days and hopefully we

bit of a smile today and we'll keep moving through

Speaker 4 (48:26):
