Speaker 3 (02:28):
I just never know what.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
It's good stuff. All right, We appreciate you guys joining us.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
We are going to talk a little bit about the
game that happened last week. We haven't had a show
since the Cowboys got their Thanksgiving when they beat the
Kansas City Keeps thirty one to twenty eight at AT
and T Stadium. Cowboys are rolling at this point three
wins in a row. This week is a short week.
We'll be back Thursday on the road. Cowboys will play
the Detroit Lions, So tomorrow we will focus on the
(02:54):
Detroit offense and defense. Will do both tomorrow and get
you guys ready for that game because there will not
be ready to Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Did y'all want to talk about it today?
Speaker 8 (03:04):
Okay?
Speaker 9 (03:04):
Good?
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Good? Looking on? I was like, man, we get all
that work.
Speaker 10 (03:08):
We just thinking, we just think, man, they're finna bring
us up here and not give us no warning.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
And we did.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
We did put something together.
Speaker 5 (03:15):
Honestly, I did think about it last night as I
was doing the show.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Not you didn't let us know, no, No. As I
was doing the show notes, I was like, should we
talk to Troy?
Speaker 5 (03:23):
And then I was like, that means I need to
send them a message, and that means that they're going
to have to start working if they hadn't planned on
doing it.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
And I was like, I'm gonna do that to them,
so we thought that I did not hit you, I
did not hit you up, and I did not plan
we do that.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
Today, we will focus as we would normally on the show.
After our game, we'll focus on the Kansas City Chiefs,
and then tomorrow morning Vikings.
Speaker 6 (03:43):
Yeah, we'll just in the Vikings next few weeks.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Right, So here we go.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
Oh, actually, we're gonna have a lot of days talk
about the Vikings after this Detroit game.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
But anyway, uh, here's what we got. Let's start first.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
With the story of the game, as we do after
every game. What do you guys say was the story
of this game? Cowboys versus Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Let the lady go first. I got a lot of points.
You to take them all? I got seven points man, and.
Speaker 8 (04:09):
The senator from Mississippi lea uh uh gives the floor
to the you.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Already know five minutes.
Speaker 7 (04:16):
Okay, No, My head was like, while you were let
me tell you what I was thinking and processing just now,
while you guys were talking about shoes, have been preparing
for Detroit and all that, I'm thinking, oh my god, yeah,
we fly out on Wednesday. We literally only have tomorrow
Tuesday here of another show, and I'm just like, oh
(04:37):
my god, this week when by fast we gotta do this,
gotta do that. It's a stressful week to this week.
But anyways, question, I want to see the baby, don't
want to the game.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
And by the way, I don't want to hear the
crime man's out there listening.
Speaker 5 (04:57):
Are like you were at the Thanksgiving Day game and
you're gonna get to be at the game in Detroit.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Like Violin.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
By the way, the press box.
Speaker 7 (05:09):
Hey, sorry for myself, I'm saying, like we have to
for this.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
We got it Christmas when you're shopping this weekend.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
Anyways, all Kansas City Chiefs. Honestly, very impressive victory.
Speaker 11 (05:25):
Uh for this team.
Speaker 7 (05:27):
I expected them to win against the Eagles. I thought
it would be a really good game. But then to
come back and then beat the Chiefs in the way
that they did, and on both sides of the ball.
Speaker 11 (05:40):
I get it. They allow big plays.
Speaker 7 (05:43):
That's something that we just have to get used to,
or we should say we're used.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
To it now by now that's Mahomes.
Speaker 7 (05:49):
Yeah, you're gonna deal with and continue to deal with.
But it once again shows how big the change that
the defense made after that trade and after the bye
week the fact that they're able to make certain stops
at certain times and just allow your offense to have
enough for them to do what they do because we
(06:11):
know the offense can generate points and score. We know
what Pikins is City Lamb. He came back and you
know what you have in there. Nothing to worry about
in that sense. You have a very explosive offense. But
now the way that the defense is playing, the momentum
(06:31):
that they're building, this is now you're talking about what
we were lacking was the consistency and then being able
to do it back to back.
Speaker 11 (06:40):
Well they did it.
Speaker 7 (06:41):
This is their on a three game winning streak right now,
and that.
Speaker 11 (06:48):
Impressive. I have to.
Speaker 7 (06:50):
Applaud Eberflus because I know he's dealt with a lot,
and I think we're starting to have an answer to
the debate it was prior to that bye week, which
was hey, is it coaching or is it talent? Again,
I think it can be both still, but you can
do a lot once you have very talented player on
(07:15):
the defense.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
So playing with yeah, yeah, I got to stop playing
with Flues.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
He's about he's about stop playing with Flues.
Speaker 7 (07:24):
So anyways, very very exciting stuff that we got to see. Now,
another big challenge coming this Thursday for the Cowboys against Detroit.
But it's crazy. It's crazy. One minute, you're thinking the
season is kind of down the drain, not mathematically, but
as far as being realistic. You thought, well, this might
be it for the Cowboys this year, and then all
(07:46):
of a sudden, they're picking up.
Speaker 11 (07:49):
And getting heated and.
Speaker 7 (07:50):
Now they're on a roll right now, and it's just
very exciting to see not only what they've been able
to accomplish, but see what the coach, Brian shottoner his
building here. We we used to talk about, Hey, what
kind of culture did the Cowboys have? And that is
exactly what he's doing.
Speaker 11 (08:08):
Now.
Speaker 7 (08:08):
He's given this team an identity and he's given this
team a culture that now it feels like a full team.
And all you have to do is watch those locker
room speech after the game. I've never seen anything like
it before, like with Garrett, and I love Garrett. I
know McCarthy wasn't that, but you see the spirit and
then again you see that this is not just a
(08:30):
buddy buddy type of coach like I'm gonna be friends
with you guys.
Speaker 11 (08:33):
He's shown to be a very strict what's the.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Word, uh, discipline.
Speaker 11 (08:40):
Discipline, Yes, that's the word.
Speaker 7 (08:42):
I'm very disciplinarian guy, and I'm just very excited about
what we're looking at and seeing developed.
Speaker 10 (08:50):
Right now, go ahead, brother, you can compete with anybody. Yep,
you can flat out compete with anybody. There's a lesson
in every bar. Ladies and gentlemen. You know, you can
look at some of these games and be like, well,
Vitch is just this team and a good team, this
team struggling this and that You've run some of the
best defense in the league, some of the best offensive
operations in the league, some of the best running backs,
(09:10):
and you've done well versus them teams they got two
number ones, that wide receiver, whatever the case may be,
the kan City Chiefs showed you. I think what was
most impressive is that Patrick Mahomes was fantastic. Patrick Mahomes
was absolutely incredible, and you overcame that. I think that's
the biggest story of this whole thing. I'm not gonna
say Mike McCarthy's name today, but there was a point
(09:32):
in the game it was the Cowboys went up twenty
eight to twenty one. Defense got to stop on Pat
while he was fantastic. Cowboys received the punt. They was
backed up to about the two yard line. Previous administrations
would have got a little lazy there. They would have
kind of chilled. They would have tried to run some clock.
Conservative they say, we about to throw a d ball
to ceed Lamb right now, We're gonna try to go
(09:52):
and win this dog on thing. We about to throw
a flow to the right sideline, were about to get
to him, and we about to get pickings going pickings
three in a row. The Cowboys were so aggressive on
their drive, biggest fumbling almost almost got away from you,
Dak being aggressive, almost turp you know what I'm saying.
It almost got away from you. But I just saw
the confidence in the play caller and his offensive operation
(10:14):
and what the defense was able to do. I saw
that play caller go yo, the game is in our hands.
I'm not afraid of the Chiefs, because sometimes getting off
the bus, Chiefs will just scary you a little bit. Oh,
it's the Chiefs. It don't matter that they six and five.
It's the Chiefs. We talk about a team that didn't
roll over at Pat Mahomes stepping off the bus and
going to be Pat Mahomes beating the hell at you.
(10:36):
I don't know what it is about the first fifteen players,
or just the first quarter or so to where teams
kind of get busy on you. But the defense have
made adjustments, not just this game, but the last two games,
the second the second quarter, second half adjustments. It's been there.
So now moving forward, I can confidently say a couple
of things. No matter who the defense is on the
(10:57):
other side, no matter who the offense is on the
other side, no matter who the quarterback is on the
other side, I got a defensive unit that I feel
really good about. I got an offensive cast that I
feel really really good about. And as long as number
four is healthy, I feel good about my chance to
beat anybody in the National Football League. That's including the Rams,
that's including the Seahawks, that's including the San Francisco for
(11:17):
the night. No matter who it is, So now moving
forward is Cowboys versus Cowboys. It ain't cowboys versus the Lions.
It's cowboys versus the last game. It's Cowboys versus don't
shoot yourself in the foot, don't make mistakes, and as
long as you're playing clean football.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
It's there.
Speaker 6 (11:32):
It's there for you to be you know what I mean,
for you to be great? So shout out to the cowboy.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
Can I say it's real quick, Brian? Before you go
on that point of aggressiveness, we talked about this last week,
maybe this is just who he is.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
You're talking about shoddy.
Speaker 5 (11:45):
Not only is he gonna be aggressive, as you said,
in those moments in the games, you're gonna be like
I ain't telling we're gonna go, We're gonna go.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
That also means on fourth down he might.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
Make a lot of people uncomfortable and nervous when he
goes for it on fourth down at midfield. But the
point is that level of aggressiveness may be what propels
this team because it is in every facet he has
said from the day he took the job. We're going
to be aggressive on all fronts. And that's just kind
of who he is. Go, Brian, I've seen Mike McCarthy
run away from really good corners. By the way, I've
seen Mike McCarthy run away from really good corners, Shoty said.
(12:17):
And look, it could be saus Guard and it could
be Kenyon mitchellhoeb it is he said, man were going
after McDonnell day because we got to be like, we
got dudes as please go ahead.
Speaker 8 (12:26):
No, I think to me, and I want to circle
back with Iberflus because I think the last three games since,
you know, since they made the trade, and you look
at how he's been able to kind of adapt and
I think a lot of this had to do with
the players he has and the ones he didn't have,
and you look at the way that they've adapted to
the teams they played with, you know, with the with
the Raiders, he played a ton of his own coverage
(12:48):
that got the job done. He played a ton of
his own coverage against Philadelphia because he knows Jalen Hurts
has trouble reading. That got the job done. What do
you do against Pat Mahomes. Pat Mahomes just kills zone coverage.
He went sixty to forty zone coverage. The man he
limited the number of opportunities that he got in his
own coverage in that game, and I think it helped him.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
I think it helped the team. And he's got these guys.
Speaker 8 (13:08):
If you look at the if you look at the
stat sheet and the guys that were on it, from
the tackles or the tackling aspect of it. Three of
the six guys on that sheet weren't with you when
this thing all started. These were guys that were either
on other teams or were injured on injured lists. He's
got better players, he's adapting to what he has to
do to play to the opponent on a weekly basis,
(13:30):
and he's doing his best to try and take that away.
Tip of the cap to him for doing that.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Yeah, I'll say this too before we take our first break.
Speaker 5 (13:38):
Whatever we're going to say about about Matti Eberflus, the
one thing I think has to be consistent is the
man didn't forget how to call defense overnight. This is
a guy that was so good as a defensive coordinator
that he got an opportunity as a head coach in Chicago.
You can say what you want about his time as
a head coach in Chicago, but he got that opportunity
because of how good he was as a defensive coordinator.
What we're seeing right now, just this ain't about ebra Flus.
(14:02):
This is about having players. And you hear coaches say
it all the time, and you typically dismiss it when
they say being a coach is about the players. It's
always about the players. And I really believe it is
always about the players. Now, coaches can help that, they
can assist that they can make bad players be worse players.
They can make a good player be a great player.
But at the end of the day, it's really about
(14:24):
the players. And if the players aren't good enough, the coach,
I don't care who he is, is not going to
be successful. Are We're gonna take our first break. We
will come back.
Speaker 7 (14:32):
We'll jump shows to see if that matches what you
were saying.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
For me, it does match, go back, go back at checking.
Speaker 11 (14:39):
Off time, but at some point, go check it.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Out, go check me. Now what I will say, I
can't say that the same thing about it.
Speaker 7 (14:46):
No, No, because no listen, because all of a sudden
we start changing. I mean it's fair to change our opinions,
right as we the more we watch and the more
we discover the you know, you gotta adjust and now
that that's great, but you gotta be consistent in your
point of right.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
And the most you will hear from me on on
ebra Flus back a month ago, two months ago, well, no,
the most you will hear from me is I said
that he needed to adapt what he was doing.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
What he was doing, he really did the table there
she had he has.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
He had to adapt his system to the players that
he had, but he didn't have players.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Let's just be clear, he didn't have players.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
All right, we're gonna take our firstrate and we come
back and jump into the offense.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
We'll talk about Dak Prescott and what he did and is.
So I do like FLUS.
Speaker 12 (15:35):

Speaker 5 (19:14):
This segment is brought to by blockchain dot Com.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
All right, here we go. Let's talk about the offense.
Speaker 5 (19:20):
Doak yesterday, I mean not yesterday on Thursday you talked
about Pat Mahomes Dak, Well, you're real.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
We already did it it. Even you might want to
put on the head. Yeah, all right, here we go.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
Dak Prescott twenty seven thirty nine six nine percent completion
three hundred and twenty yards passing, two touchdowns, one interception,
one hundred point four rating.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
How would you assess his day?
Speaker 6 (19:41):
Man talked about this yesterday.
Speaker 10 (19:44):
You know, I think you should grade quarterbacks on curves
or whatever situation they're in. Like it's cool to have, like,
you know, good numbers or whatever, but good numbers versus
this type of defense or good numbers when you're dueling
versus that versus that dude on the other side that's
out there going going crazy against you, right, But that
had a I think this is one of a besides
the one pick. I guess it was just you know,
(20:05):
we didn't you know, we weren't on the same page
with things like that.
Speaker 6 (20:07):
That Dak has been fantastic, but.
Speaker 10 (20:09):
Closer to the end of the game, like you see
Dak starting to clutch his way through a lot of
these you know, through a lot of these drives or whatever.
You know, way back, if you think about the Packers
game or the Giants game, it's like a lot of
people look at Deak like he's not a like a
clutch type guy. But it's like when the game is
on the line, Dak is getting done. He's he's running around,
he's dodging guys, and that two point conversion. I talked
(20:30):
to Brian about this earlier, that dot that he threw
to GP that was supposed to go to the other
side of the field. It was one by three going
from left to right, and we were supposed to do
something on this side. Kansas City dialed it up perfectly.
Your offensive line kind of gave you a little bit
of pressure.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
So that were on three on that side, didn't they three?
Speaker 10 (20:48):
Yeah, So Dak having to avoid the pressure, rolling out,
breaking out, seeing GP and shouts out to GP for
breaking away, finding his feet, you know, making the catch.
But that didn't have a lot of room for error
on that And I'm just like, man, like you just
can't continue to say that this dude shrinks in big games.
We've had some big game opportunities and that has been
fantastic the.
Speaker 11 (21:08):
Whole way, well in finishing games.
Speaker 7 (21:11):
Like I get it that some of those games the
Cowboys didn't come out with the win prior to that
bye week, but even then, you see the growth and
the development that Dak has had, And like this is
like we've said it before, we said it last week.
I think like he's in his prime right now, and
(21:34):
when you talk, you kind of slightly mentioned McCarthy earlier, slightly,
just a little bit, but he goes back to thinking
like now, the difference is you're finishing games, like it
doesn't matter how you started. Sometimes they start kind of slow,
but they're getting to that point where at the end
of the game you actually still have a chance, like
(21:54):
you're actually not out of it. And that's something that
I'm still processing because it's easy even with that game
against Philly or even the Chiefs, you're sitting there you're like,
huh huh, well it happened more with Philly where you
think it's not gonna happen, and they're.
Speaker 11 (22:11):
Like whoa, Okay, hold on.
Speaker 7 (22:13):
They're at that level now where they're just going for
it and they're able to actually finish games and Dak
the I'm just so excited to see what this week
brings in Detroit because at one point I thought the
season might be done in a way because yeah, you
(22:36):
have to yeah, you have hope and you root for
the Cowboys, but you gotta be realistic too as to
what you're seeing, and then you process out of like, man,
I just hope we don't waste this year for the Cowboys,
and now they're at a time where they're taking advantage
of that. They have all the elements, and to be fair,
I think for years, even with McCarthy, we've seen the
(22:56):
offense have weapons and them being able to produce, but
not the right way because of the play calling. I mean,
there's a lot of things that were wasted during the
years because they've had a talented offense and on numbers.
You saw what Kellen Moore was doing with the numbers,
so the stats were there, but he just wasn't getting
(23:18):
the results.
Speaker 6 (23:18):
Proud Vice, Proud any of your socks.
Speaker 10 (23:24):
I think the biggest thing that I saw from the
from this Cowboys team that we was ready for it
to go bad is at the end of the game,
they didn't give it back to Mahme.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
Yeah, because if that's what we weren't thinking, if you
wouldn't gave it back to Mahome, we'd been sitting backing
the chance, just worried about but aggressively efficiently.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
They didn't do it for that.
Speaker 8 (23:44):
Yeah, I will say this though, it doesn't get any
more difficult in a two game span to go get
Vick Fangio and then have to deal with Steve Specknel.
It doesn't get any I mean there's you just stack
them up and you start talking about the best defensive
coordinators and the league, and those two are.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
For a long time right at the.
Speaker 8 (24:02):
Front of the list, and the accomplishments have had and
to get two wins with them, And another thing I
think doing. I went back and watched the game and
I'm sitting there thinking about how much pressure this this
Candacy Chiefs defense is going to put on. Yeah, they're
gonna blitz and they're gonna come after you. One of
the most telling stats for me is when somebody runs
cover zero against you with no safety help in the
(24:22):
middle of the field, that means they're coming after you.
Dak was four for four, one touchdown against zero coverage blitz.
That's all you need to know. He had some He
had some help from his receiver buddies, his offensive line.
He especially had some help from that running back that's
one of the best blitz pick up guys in the league.
Are none and that that that fourth down pass you
throw the Ferguson that was a blitz pick up all
(24:44):
the way.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
But Dak knowing where he needed to go with the ball.
Speaker 8 (24:46):
Everybody around him helping him in that way, but man
going up against getting victories against Vic Vangio and Steve Spagnol,
it doesn't happen that often. That was That was a
great couple of games for Dak Prescott.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
Yeah, watching Javonte Williams pickup blitz is one of the
fun things about watching the Cowboys because he is regularly,
almost every week you're seeing him decleat a linebacker or
just stone one that's just blitzing up the middle, blitzing
off the edge. He's very good at knowing where he's
supposed to be number one and number two being able
to actually pick up the block and make a difference.
(25:20):
That being said, let's talk about the running game a
little bit. Javonte was seventeen carries for fifty nine yards
three point five average. Malik Davis had three character for
forty seven yards with a touchdown, and then they also mixed
in Cavante Turpin with three carries for thirty three yards.
How do you like this mix of carries that they're
doing right now. Obviously, Malik Davis is starting to provide
a little bit for this team in the way of
(25:40):
spelling Javonte Williams something that we I guess at the
beginning of the year. I'll speak for myself. I thought
Jayden Blue would have that role. He does not. Right now,
he's not even active. Malik Davis is filling that role.
How do you like this mix and how much they're
using each of these guys in the run game.
Speaker 10 (25:55):
I think Blue is kind of done for the year,
I would say if I had to, if I had
to assume, I think that every time they give another
running back an opportunity, I think that they kind of
show you something. And that's also like Lifky as well.
I've seen Liky in there at running back. He may
be past blocking or something, or he'll may you know,
catch something here or there, like the the Raiders game
or whatever. But I don't think we're gonna be looking
(26:16):
for Blue till next season. Now what I do?
Speaker 2 (26:19):
You know?
Speaker 10 (26:19):
What I will say, I asked Brian, this is I
wonder how they're gonna use Davis moving forward, because the
conversation about Blue was like Blue would have a role
in the offense, like, hey, he'll catch the ball. Sometimes
he'll line up and slot, He'll do this and that
It's either that or you're just a running back that's
just giving Williams a break like it.
Speaker 6 (26:37):
You know, So if Blue is not going to be active.
Speaker 10 (26:39):
I wonder does that make Davis like this Joe Randle
type cat is you know how you know how me
and Brian you know, talked about it.
Speaker 6 (26:47):
Whatever.
Speaker 10 (26:48):
Is he going to be a guy that comes in
every now and then and he's just a big play
dude here or there, Like he won't be bellcow type
guy because every time you've kind of given him the
you know, for you know, four carries five, you know,
you know, whatever carries, he's like, there's a big run somewhere.
Then he just goes back sideline and just does his thing.
I would like to see a little more eligue Davis.
Turpin shout out to Shotty after that you know fumble.
(27:10):
I kind of wouldn't have done it. I wouldn't have
gave it back to Turpin. I would have put Turpin
back on gadget duty or whatever. But Turpin showed you
what happens if it's kind of blocked up and he
holds onto the football. Well, you know, he is one
of those guys. So as far as run game, goes.
How I feel, as long as the run game is
complimentary to the passing game, I don't care. Whatever works,
you know, however it happens. If you just want some
(27:31):
more big plays from faster guys, than sure, get Davis involved,
get Turp involved, or whatever. But just remember how you win,
and you win with going crazy on those outside guys.
But they always talk about in the postseason what.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
You need to win.
Speaker 10 (27:43):
You need run game, you need defense, and I don't
think the Cowboys have had both at the same time
for postseas on top of Deck and his wide receiver group.
Speaker 8 (27:52):
So I think the Cowboys are capable of rolling out
of bed and getting one hundred and sixteen yards rushing
in a game. Talk to him, and there used to
be a time with that wasn't the case when you
really bad in a running game. This year your offensive
line was compromised. Carolina get thirty one yards in that game.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
What happened? You took an l in that game.
Speaker 8 (28:07):
But I think Dallas is not they If someone says, oh,
they play really good run defense, Dallas doesn't really mind that.
They'll go in, they'll get their one hundred and sixteen
yards and they'll move on and they'll spread it out
among three guys and that's how they play football now,
and I think that's that's a great way to do it.
I don't think they have to be scared about, like,
oh wow, this seems this is the top five run
defense they're going against. I think Dallas it doesn't bother them.
(28:29):
They'll say, we're just gonna run the ball, do what
we have to do, and make good of it.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
You know what.
Speaker 7 (28:36):
I think going back to a conversation that we had
weeks ago about Kevanta Turping, where I was saying earlier
in the season, I wanted to see him a lot
more involved, like I'm okay with seeing him more involved
in the offense, and now I'm the opposite, like I'm
okay with him being in there. I don't mind it,
but I'm also okay with him not being in there,
(28:56):
Like there's no need you have so many other guys.
Javanta Williams, he's so non chillan.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
He's such a I don't have a little danger.
Speaker 11 (29:06):
He's just like doing his things in the locker.
Speaker 5 (29:08):
Room after the game, Like who are we talking to him?
He's like he's got a point nowt He'll at least
smile a little bit. He's just kind of like, hey man, yeah.
Speaker 11 (29:17):
It's just such a chill guy. And I love that.
Speaker 7 (29:21):
And with Malik Davis, I'm okay using him just as
the way they used him in this last game and
not necessarily dividing up the carries, just like, hey, Jamonta
needs a break, Come on, Davis, come in. We know
what he can do. He can be explosive, and I
think that's a role where he can have a lot
(29:45):
more success than when you're splitting carries. I see him
as that kind of guy rather And I'm not trying
to lessen his talent. He's very talented, but I think
that's where you get the most out of him, in
the way there's splinting it in that way.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
So here's the question, do you guys think that?
Speaker 5 (30:04):
And I don't know how much you're watching the Rams
these days, but I watched I've watched them a lot
just because I got one of their players on my
fantasy team. But Karen Williams and Blake Cooram, they literally
are splitting a series.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
So it's like Corman Williams in, Corman Williams in.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
Like they are using these guys interchangeably, and to be
quite honest with you, although I hate it from a
fantasy standpoint, as you watch it, you start realizing like
their running back is always fresh, and you can see
it in the burst they have because they're all right.
In the playoffs, you will not have a guy that's
run down. Do you think that the Cowboys may have
found a similar thing with Malie Davis to where now
(30:44):
they really can use these guys interchangeably and keep them fresh.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Do you think there's a big difference stance.
Speaker 8 (30:48):
I think there's a big difference because I don't want
to take Williams off the field.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
When I'm throwing the football. Actually, I just nothing against Davis.
Speaker 8 (30:54):
I'm sure Malik Davis knows exactly where he needs to
pick up and all that. I can't afford to have
the way that Williams. Look at the look at the
touchdown that they had, you know, look at that look
at that play where where he was just Dak has
to climb the pocket and he kind of leaks out
and then they throw it to him and then he's
able to get in right there, that element, that kind
of that crafty player.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
But give me the blitz pickup guy.
Speaker 8 (31:16):
I'm not taking him off the field because he saves
me when my offensive line f's things up.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
He's there to kind of pick up the pieces.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
And you know what's interesting about that, Brian, is they
have a similar situation in LA because I think Korum
is a sizable difference step down when it comes to
blitz pickup. He gets blown up regularly and guys run
past him in blitz pickup, whereas you don't see that
quite as much with Karen Williams. But they've somehow made
it work and they're still keeping those guys kind of
(31:45):
using them interchangeable.
Speaker 10 (31:46):
Also to Williams. Plus what this line is like they
wear guys out. People be tied in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (31:55):
Chris Jones was tired of Tyler Booker at the end
of the game.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Hey, we gotta talk about Tyler. Let's talk about him.
I love watching man, sure go go for Tyler.
Speaker 10 (32:07):
Booker be wandy boys out. He had the Bleacher Report
I just got drafted thing. Yeah, and he says, hey, man, look,
I want to take the love of the game at
these people, because I'm gonna come at these I'm gonna
come after you play at the play at the play
and he's not lying. I got clips on my YouTube.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Go find. I don't know if I can tell you
to go.
Speaker 10 (32:26):
And you just see you just see Tyler Booker hemming him.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
You see him.
Speaker 10 (32:33):
Hemming Chris Jones up against like like like like like
you're putting a kid in the locker. He's picking these
grown men up like there there's a there's a rookie
wall that you know guys kind of run into. Man
Book ain't running the nobody's wall. He's physically assaulting people.
He's moving bodies and shouts out to all the other guys.
Man shouts out to the backup guard centers and all this.
(32:54):
But what BB and book do together and they drive
people off the line of scrimmage. They get sick of that,
they get tired of that, and you just see people
on the floor at the end of the game. I
would love to see the cowboys, like if they're not
in that game flow where they got to throw the ball,
I would just love to see them do the old
cowboy thing like get up early, just run all day.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
I think the whole drive, just the whole drive.
Speaker 10 (33:16):
And these are like these are players I respect, Like
Nick Bolden is a player I respect. Nick Bolden was
tired of tackling jovonce week because he was tired of
dealing with offensive linemen all day. These are dudes that
get to the second level and block last week we
mentioned or whatever, but they're picking up ones in threes
and dropping them on top of linebackers and you see
hands on hips all day.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
Tyler Bookers is sick.
Speaker 10 (33:38):
And don't get lost with Big Tyler and BV and
all these other guys because they doing They think Terrence
Terrence Steel much better since to buy all these guys
playing together, and they just whooping, feeding the run game.
And as I watched span Ford whooping feeding the run games.
Speaker 5 (33:51):
And as much as I love it, as I'm watching Booker,
I can't help but think, Man, it is still just
his first year, and we all know, we all know
what exact we all know what happens after that first
year when you start getting in that NFL and he's
gonna be working with Nash and his crew over here. No,
he's gonna he's gonna be a massive white other team.
Speaker 7 (34:11):
So impressive because you talk about first round picks in general,
and when you look at skilled players, you see them
be successful year one and all that, but when you
go back to strength in that position, that is very
difficult to to be at that.
Speaker 11 (34:30):
Level when you're a rookie like you're one.
Speaker 7 (34:33):
To see that strength that he has and the way
that he's been able to play in that power, that's
very difficult to acquire.
Speaker 11 (34:42):
In year one.
Speaker 7 (34:43):
So I can't even begin to imagine what he's gonna
look like in year two.
Speaker 6 (34:48):
And he ain't even got the peenu buddy.
Speaker 10 (34:50):
Fantastic, fantastic, but there's a certain there's a certain peena
buddy that they give me in the all season like
Tyler after that first year, Big Tyler will always be
but amongst other big people, like he was looking a
little slim like like you could just see it on film.
He was looking like a tackle, and the next to
Turren Smith and then he get that damn peanut button
and then Nick get thick and he gives a little
(35:12):
tall and his arms get swollen, and bb just looking
at it is like this wide, he's wild.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Not just why I'm talking like just from looking from from.
Speaker 10 (35:20):
The side is like, you know, Gayton got a bigger
No book ain't even peanut butter Bookie. Wait, till he's
peanut butter Book and he got a whole off season
of lifting weights over there, and you know what I'm saying, Oh,
I can't wait to see what next year looks like.
Speaker 6 (35:35):
But he's so powerful for a rookie. He will be
throwing people next year.
Speaker 7 (35:38):
He's like big strump like not not big, just in
like like yeah yeah yeah, Like he he's big and
like strong. Which again it's just we'll see those muscles
when they come and really come in next year because
we see it all the time. Year one versus year
two is such a big difference in this football player.
Speaker 10 (36:00):
The Chiefs left out with Josh Simmons. Josh Simmons looks
small yesterday. We got to break Josh Simmons looks small yesterday.
You know what I'm saying, Like like there was he
was powdering, having a little bit of nickname. You know
what I'm say, Book bigger than him for a rookie. Already,
go ahead, please go.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
To go take a break.
Speaker 5 (36:14):
We gotta come back to spend a little bit of
time on the defense.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
We need to. We'll be back.
Speaker 6 (36:18):

Speaker 5 (39:25):
Okay, Brian get a coach and now he just like
trying to.
Speaker 3 (39:29):
Pull up in everybody's money.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
All right, let's let's finish the show, right. We need
to talk about the defensive side.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
Of the ball, like Lane Lane Kevin when he's in Mississippi.
Speaker 5 (39:41):
I don't know, Let's talk about the defensive side of
the ball.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
Pat Mahomes, as you.
Speaker 5 (39:45):
Said, Pat Mahomes out of an excellent show thirty four
to sixty eight percent completion rate and sixty one yards,
four touchdowns, no interception, one hundred and twenty nine point
seven rated.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
The interesting thing.
Speaker 5 (39:57):
The interesting thing was Cowboys got stops in the middle
four the middle, four possessions, possession in the second quarter,
two possession, third quarter, Cowboys force four punts.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
What was the key to those stops and run fits? Uh?
Speaker 10 (40:11):
Also, like you know, just being not not horrible, you
could be you could be regular bad or regular averages.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Don't be horrible.
Speaker 10 (40:18):
And there's there were a lot of times early in
the season where you just saw guys like just wide
open for no reason and like nobody close. Uh the
Cowboy they gave up that one, big, big, big player
to word at the end. But I think for the
most part you saw like corners in phase. So if
corners are in phase and they're pressing a little bit
more now and you know, pass rush is actually a
thing of osa Kenny Quinn Sam Wi a yo, Sam,
(40:39):
you played a good game player. Yeah, you played a
good game player. Shots, I tell you, you know, run
fits were much better, and you got linebackers that can
affect the the coverage aspect of the game or whatever.
So yeah, Cowboys, Cowboys did a fantastic job of dealing
with a fantastic path Mahome Past is gonna get his
you know what I'm saying, You just you just have
to live with the idea that he's you know, gonna
get hisre is. You just can't let Past score forty
(41:01):
on you. And you know, they did a good.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
Job with that, John Hussey. So they got their stops.
The official.
Speaker 6 (41:10):
I ain't going that's his name, I ain't going for that.
Speaker 8 (41:13):
They had a holding call and they had an offensive
pass interference call that kicked them backwards. You know, a
couple of trives. Now, Dallas did what they had to do.
But listen, they needed to get stops and sometimes teams
have they you know, they stopped themselves. A lot of times.
Dallas will be down the red zone.
Speaker 3 (41:27):
What do they do.
Speaker 8 (41:28):
They get a motion penalty, a holding penalty. Something happens
and they don't they don't have a you know, have
a chance. But honestly, Dallas's defense played well in those
stops you mentioned, but Kansas City meant Dallas forced a
holding penalty, Dallas made mistah mistakes, Dallas forced you know, Dallas,
they they had an offensive pass.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Interference that took away a big play in that game.
Speaker 8 (41:51):
Why because somebody was in position to potentially make a play.
Speaker 3 (41:55):
That's why.
Speaker 8 (41:56):
Yeah, they had two calls against them that were huge
that led to them having to punt the football. But
overall though, you know, when you know when you're dealing
with when you're dealing with Pat Mahomes, they didn't allow
him to kill him with running the football either. He
had you know, he probably had three carries for thirty yards,
but you know, usually he will kill you with a
(42:17):
with more than that. But I I think give him
a lot of credit for getting the stops. But also too,
Chiefs made some penalties along the way that we're that
were very, very costly, and again because Dallas put him
in those positions.
Speaker 7 (42:29):
People, Hey, when someone brings up those penalties or whatever
or like, it finally worked to the cows advantaged. Do
you know how many times the cows get burned by calls.
Speaker 8 (42:44):
And they get an illegal contact gly I look forward
every single time, you know what the other day you
had a situation to you know, get a roughing the
punter call.
Speaker 3 (42:53):
After you get a stop.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
By the way, back all.
Speaker 8 (42:55):
Yeah, I'm saying there's some there's some times where you
automatically think the worst with the old Dallas Cowboy defense,
you honestly think it's third and eighteen and you're gonna
get some type of stupid penalty on the other side
of the field.
Speaker 10 (43:10):
Because Maya McCarthy was the most penalized you know, Cowboys
team in the league.
Speaker 6 (43:14):
Like that ain't just me hating like it was the worst.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
Truth.
Speaker 5 (43:17):
But you know something, you know who the most penalized
team is this year in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (43:21):
Cowboys, hold on, No, No, No Eagle, Froncos, Bronco.
Speaker 5 (43:26):
Yeah, top the top team in the NFL has the
most penalties and penalty yards in the National Football.
Speaker 3 (43:33):
I'll be that corner that plays off.
Speaker 5 (43:37):
But that's the part like that's sometimes it isn't necessarily
sometimes it is a lot about the kinds of penalties
they're getting, probably a lot of those aggressiveness type penalties,
which most coaches are like, I'll take those.
Speaker 6 (43:46):
I take it, Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
Good.
Speaker 7 (43:47):
You have an update on digs A Dick the people
bringing him up in the chat.
Speaker 5 (43:52):
I he did practice yesterday. They have activated his twenty
one day window. I think it was Jerry last week
that's said that they are hopeful that he'll be able
to play this week. I don't know that there is
any definitive word just yet that the.
Speaker 8 (44:05):
Person practice full yesterday too, and the thought of him
practicing full again today. So that hamstring injury that we
kind of thought might be problematic appears that he's trying
to get himself back on the field.
Speaker 2 (44:17):
Well, we'll talk about all that tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (44:18):
We'll have some more injury updates and talk about a
couple guys that we didn't get a chance to talk
about today, Namely one of them was Rebel, who played
a ton of snaps this last game, probably played as
much as many snaps as anybody on the defense except
for Donovan Wilson. We'll talk about that tomorrow. Till then,
for watch Lobardi, Brian brought us Ambergarci. I'm Derek Eild
and this has been the Break live on Dallas Cowboys
dot Com Radio.
Speaker 6 (44:38):
I hope dig shows ou with good energy.
Speaker 1 (44:40):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
