The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Cowboys, Let's go.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Are you ready for a break?
Speaker 4 (00:19):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (00:19):
Are you ready for a break?
Speaker 6 (00:21):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Ready for a break?
Speaker 5 (00:24):
Yeah, and so much for that.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
It's time for the Break on Dallas Cowboys dot Com
right with Ambar Garcia, Brian brought Us, Votch Lombardi, and
Derek Eagleton.
Speaker 5 (00:41):
It is Friday, August first, twenty twenty five, Season twenty one,
Episode number.
Speaker 7 (00:45):
Wait, number ten.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
Welcome to Lay's edition of The Breakwheel, Live from Oxnard, California.
Cowboys don't have practice today, but we're still here. We're
talking Cowboys football. They'll be back at practice tomorrow. Then
we'll have another day on Sunday before next week's gone Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday,
they got practice heading into their first preseason game on
Saturday against the Rams. That Tuesday practice will actually be
(01:08):
versus the Rams. The Rams will be out here in
ox and Ard, so if you're in the area and
want to come by, that's a great day to come
out and watch a little a little football between the two.
It's probably gonna be a little more action in that
then maybe have been in the preseason game, so those
are always fun when you have the joint practices. So
we'll see how that goes.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
You think he plays the starters series or two? You
know what, is that a question you want to hold?
Speaker 4 (01:28):
No?
Speaker 5 (01:28):
No, no, no, no, that's actually a good question because I'll
tell you this.
Speaker 6 (01:31):
I know, but I want to get into it just
a little bit because I'm not with you guys. Yeah, yeah,
but I just wanted to say, do you feel like
that he is I kind of feel.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Like he might.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
Yeah, I do too.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
I think this cat's a little different that way.
Speaker 5 (01:43):
Here's what I would the only thing I wonder, and
we're about to get into this with all the injuries,
I wonder with that growing injury list, does that make
him say? I wanted to but man, I don't know
if I can justify it because it right now the
injury list is pretty substantial.
Speaker 8 (01:57):
I think you might see some not all. In my opinion,
Dak Prescott shuldn taket snap in the preseason. You just don't.
You don't risk it. I think he's good enough out
here to wear. Like you said, you let him practice
against the Rams. That smile tells me you think otherwise
brought us.
Speaker 6 (02:12):
Come on, man, play some football, right, go play football?
Speaker 7 (02:17):
Yeah, I guess the Eagles League one, right, go play football.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Man, He's not football. Look, this reminds me.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
You guys all getting scared now about playing.
Speaker 9 (02:26):
I'm with you for the first time ever.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
I agree.
Speaker 9 (02:29):
However, no, no, no, for preseason stuff playing I could dry in.
This is the one time that I'm like, yeah, I
feel like you need to do you have.
Speaker 5 (02:43):
To For long time breakers, this is an age old
debate between you. Remember Brian and Dave. Remember Helman was
very much like, I don't want to see a starter
until week one of the NFL season, and Brian's like,
you gotta, you gotta play football, man, and Helmans just
not feeling it. But I kind of get. I think
I agree with you that I think this coach is different.
I think this.
Speaker 9 (03:02):
Coach quarter what a little quarter? A little quarters?
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:08):
There you go. All right, let's talk about the day.
Speaker 5 (03:13):
This injury list, no, no, it's this injury list is is
pretty substantial. I guess the one that's most interesting right now,
the one that's the injury that's most interesting right now
is savone rebel. What do we know about about his
injury and where he is in his recovery at this point.
Speaker 7 (03:29):
Yeah, I think, you know, Revel.
Speaker 8 (03:31):
I know there's some reports out there that week one
was kind of the goal. I think that was always lofty.
I think that was always a very optimistic view of
things of hey, if this rehab is going ahead of schedule,
then maybe. But the other thing too, is this staff
doesn't want to throw Savone Revel right into the fire,
like if they can't get this guy a couple of
weeks of practice, you know, and get his to get
(03:52):
his legs under him and get acclimated to what it's
like to play NFL football, much less making a jump
from a school like East Carolina. It's now playing against
AJ Brown and DeVante Smith week one, So they want
to get this guy acclimated. But I think I think
his recovery is going to take a little bit longer.
So I know the word setback was used a little bit,
and I think there I don't know if there was
(04:12):
a setback, but I've heard, just talking to some people
around the building that there may have been a slight
tweak in something while he was going through on field
work and recovery, but nothing that deterred his timeline drastically,
if at all. It's just, you know, these injuries are
different for every player, right. I think Javonte Williams was
talking about it earlier this offseason, where it's different in
every situation. The Cowboys are no rush to bring savone
(04:35):
revel back, nor should they be. And uh, you know,
it wouldn't shock me if this is a guy who
starts the year on pupp and misses those first four games,
but after that you could see him working on this
cornerback rotation.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Boss. I used the word set back to a guy
I got slapped.
Speaker 7 (04:51):
That's why I said, that's what it was.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Yes, I got slapped.
Speaker 7 (04:55):
That's not what it was.
Speaker 6 (04:56):
I said, hey, setback and literally right hand two face
with me.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
I think Tommy's onto this though. This rehab has been
unique in a lot of different ways, and I mean
unique and maybe difficult at times.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
You know, it's it's tough.
Speaker 6 (05:15):
He he goes from rehabbing before he was drafted and
now he gets picked up, you know, gets drafted and
now he's part of the Britt Brown program and stuff
and the expectations, and you know we were hearing that like, Okay, well,
he's going to be back and he and I was
even hearing that. I'm like, hey, you know, we're not
going to put him out there until he's one hundred percent.
But I think this one Tommy's right. I think this
(05:37):
thing is going to take some time. But I was
also told, we don't know the timetable. We don't know that,
you know. And I know in one O five three
The Fan, we got to visit with his dad a
little bit. You know, his dad said some things that
kind of caught some people's attention. Yeah, that's not doing
the rehab, you know, That's what I'm saying. So so, yeah,
(05:58):
I don't think there was a setback. I just think
that they are they're they're being really measured to how
they're getting how they're getting him ready for this thing.
And so I think your assessment is probably pretty close.
Speaker 8 (06:08):
And I want to make it clear again that there
was I'm not saying there was a setback.
Speaker 7 (06:12):
There was no no, no, no, but but but his
but his dad said that.
Speaker 6 (06:16):
His dad said there was a setback on our on
our station, on the flagship station for the Cowboys, one
O five three The Fan, Make sure you listen to
pre and post game show with us all the time.
But they you know, see, but that that's where that's where,
you know, that's where we got to be careful because
Pop's great man senior. You know, he was very like, well,
you know, he's very upbeat and all that. But like
(06:36):
I said, they they don't have that timetable. And like
I said, when I said the words setback, I caught
it straight right, and so I learned my lesson.
Speaker 8 (06:44):
And here's the thing too, Britt Brown is one of
the best in the game, if not the best in
the game in terms of getting these guys back and ready.
Speaker 7 (06:51):
So just let him do his thing. Yeah, let him
do his thing.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Players working hard, though, absolutely is. They're excited about what
the players try to do.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
But he his you have up until this point was
not a Dallas cowboy done rehab. And there's certain things
that they want to be able. And I think it's
a little bit like the same thing with Diggs. You know,
I think they've Diggs just look looked fine. We'll see
how this all plays out. I'm so ready for all
this to go. I'm so ready for I'm so ready
for the Mica and the and listen, this Mica think
(07:21):
too is I'm sorry, it's difficult.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
It's difficult. Both sides are there.
Speaker 6 (07:27):
This is a struggle and the DIGS thing, it's a struggle,
and everything's a struggle right now.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
The one thing that they can control is.
Speaker 6 (07:34):
Those practices, and we need to talk about those practices
because there's been some good practices out here. It's this
off the field kind of stuff that just it just
it drained you. You know, it drains you when you're
watching out here, because that's all people want to talk about. Contract, contract, contract,
Why as you saying this, why saying let me tell
you that that Nate Thomas had a really good day yesterday,
(07:55):
blocking you know what, awesome Richards. I'll tell you what, man,
you know, if kneeland, if they get kneeling playing.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
The past, you know, that's that's what.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
I want to talk about. It good stuff.
Speaker 7 (08:05):
That's what I want to talk about right now.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
But this off the field stuff is training.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
We're going to get to Micah and talk a little
bit more. Sorry, talk about a little bit that, a
little bit more. I did have a couple more injuries.
I wanted to catch up on what do we know
about Tyler Smith? He missed practice has says, there's some
what we're hearing about.
Speaker 8 (08:23):
Him really more just almost like a day off, like
just giving him some rest time.
Speaker 7 (08:29):
But that's nothing serious. He'll be fun, That's perfect.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
That's what we don't because right now it's just seems
like it's just getting batter.
Speaker 6 (08:35):
Was shoe Buddies coming in town? Yeah, crawfish cooking buddy
Lou Collins, Yeah, I did. I spoke to Will McClay
on this one, and I asked Will, I said, hey,
where are we at on this? And he's just just
to work out, Brian, just work out, you see we're
at and uh so you know, Lyle Collins has been
working with Duke there in Frisco, and and everybody that
Duke's touched has been has had a grodery, has had
(08:55):
a lot of good, good camps out here and stuff
like that. But yeah, we'll just said Brian is just
a workout right now, We'll see where we're at real quick.
Speaker 5 (09:03):
Miles Sanders, what do we know about Miles Sanders right now?
Speaker 8 (09:05):
Miles Sanders is a bone bruise, but nothing considered to
be serious to either. If he misses a couple more practices,
you know, that would probably be to be expected. But
if he's back early too, wouldn't shocked me. So more
reps for Jayden Blue with the ones.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
By the way, we're seeing good things.
Speaker 7 (09:20):
Yeah, he had he had the run of the day yesterday.
Speaker 8 (09:22):
I think you know, when you talk about just cutting,
Jaden Blue is the best cutter as a running back
on this on this team, I think I think you know,
he's just so smooth and can jump around and can
get to two different spots really quick.
Speaker 7 (09:35):
And he showed that yesterday. He had the run of
the day when he.
Speaker 8 (09:37):
Like a word with you, Yeah, well, Turpan's white, I
would wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
But you're right about Blue, absolutely right about.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
You talk about Turpin. I actually Nick and I were
having this conversation yesterday and I was like, you know,
and we both play fantasy football. I was like, late round.
Speaker 7 (09:53):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
I might.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
I might be willing to jump in on Turping in
a late round just because the way they're using him,
like he's getting a lot of opportunities in a lot
of different ways.
Speaker 9 (10:03):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
And if they I mean, we've all we've talked about
on this show, like the talent that you have in
Cavante Turpin. If if the coach really was dedicated to
making sure he's a part of the offense. He could
be a great weapon and one of the best weapons
in the NFL, because we see it out here with
his speed, his shiftiness, like he has those skills where
he can be a problem for teams. And it looks
(10:24):
like from what again, from what we're seeing out here,
it looks like they're going to be dedicated to ensuring
he's gonna be a part of this offense.
Speaker 6 (10:30):
When the head coach came out and told you to
the other day that the other the defensive coordinator standing
over there and going, he's not in the game, and
now you send him in. I'll lets you know he's going.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
To use this cat.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
Yeah, he believes in what they He's.
Speaker 6 (10:42):
Going to affect the defensive coordinator that way, he's gonna
use this.
Speaker 7 (10:46):
Well, they showed him yesterday. They did.
Speaker 8 (10:48):
They did like Dak did a fake toss throwback to
Turpin and they just sent five guys in space. If
you give that guy a convoy and some green grass,
good luck, they can't see him.
Speaker 7 (10:58):
Good luck, they can't see him.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Good luck.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
All right, we got to take our first break when
we come back We're going to talk a little bit
about Michael Parsons. There's some news reporting that's out there.
Speaker 3 (11:04):

Speaker 5 (13:56):
Welcome back. It is the second segment of the Break
Life Maoxnart, California brought about blockchain dot Com. All right,
here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna talk about Michael Parsons.
There was some reporting that I don't know it came
out late last night earlier this morning, but there was
reporting that that he was Yeah, sure, Diana and and
(14:17):
I think the the net net of it was that
Micah is at this point considering the possibility of doing
more to kind of exercise whatever leverage you may have,
whether that be requesting a trade. I think it heard
tweet he said something effective of severing his relationship. I'm
not sure what that means. Uh, But what what do
you guys make of all of that as far as
(14:38):
what's being said that Michaeh may be considering relative to
the reality of the situation that he's in.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
You know what, Yeah, you just knew that. I hate
every minute of this talking about I was.
Speaker 7 (14:52):
I wanted you to talk first. He can get it
out of the way.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
No, I'm fine.
Speaker 6 (14:55):
You know, I really do think this is I think
this is really this part of it's kind of difficult
because to me, first off, I don't think the Cowboys
would trade him. I just don't. I don't think if
that's something he's going to request, I don't think the
Cowboys trade him, So let's take that back. The next
thing is, though, you know, you start to talk about
(15:16):
severing ties. The franchise tag was put in place for
a reason, though, and that's too for the lead or
for the teams to have the ability to keep a player,
you know, under contract that they don't want to lose.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Dallas has got a couple options.
Speaker 6 (15:32):
With him, and if you do the math, it's actually
less than what he would make and you know, for
the life of a contract and still have him playing.
What you have to bet on then is then is
mic is going to miss any games? Is he going
to miss game checks? If me looking at this, the
fact that he's doing a hold in right now tells
(15:53):
me he didn't want to get fined fifty thousand dollars
a day. That tells me right there the Michael really
appreciates money, the value of a dollar. He's not going
to let money just go away just for this. The
fact he's here. I know he's frustrated. I know the
Cowboys are frustrated. Hopefully they'll figure this thing out. But
the Cowboys have a lot of leverage here in this
(16:13):
in the way this thing is going to work, And
so to me, the quicker. Maybe that Micah could say, Okay,
let's do this deal, you know, and but the Cowboys
have to be willing to do that too. And I
think there's a lot of that. I think there's some
hurt feelings on both sides.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
I really do.
Speaker 6 (16:29):
Yeah, And you know, there's some like, Okay, I thought
we had something here. I thought we had an agreement,
you know, I thought we you know. I think there's
I think both sides are looking at this like, no,
wait a minute, you should have done this, and you know,
and the other side say, no, you should have done that.
Long way around it, though, the cowboys are holding a
lot of cards here. Yeah, they're holding a lot of
cards here, and it's going to be very difficult for Micah,
(16:50):
I think, to try and get what Diana Rassini tweeted.
Speaker 8 (16:53):
Out, you know, I think it's a frustrating situation for everyone.
Speaker 7 (16:57):
Right.
Speaker 8 (16:57):
The Cowboys don't want to be in this situation. Michael
Park certainly doesn't want to be in this situation. But
at the end of the day, when you're talking about
contract negotiations, leverage is the word.
Speaker 7 (17:08):
And Brian you put it perfectly.
Speaker 8 (17:10):
The Cowboys have all of the leverage here, and I
think they gained even more leverage when you know, when
we were at the owner's meetings back in March, Jerry
Jones said to us, Mike and I had a handshake deal.
Speaker 7 (17:22):
Mike and I had a handshake deal.
Speaker 8 (17:24):
And then Michael Parsons comes out a couple months later
and says, well, I want them to call my agent.
And essentially what that's saying is the Cowboys can look
at it and say, we had a deal, and now
we don't have a deal anymore. Why can't why can't
we do what we originally agreed upon? And so that's
that's the complex part, right because if the agent gets
involved from day one, and David mulliged is one of
(17:45):
the best in the game, and I know the Cowboys
have respect for David Mulligeda and that's mutual. Whether or not,
you know, you can throw out there they haven't talked
to David mullageda, you know they have in the past,
and there's respect there. This is just, I really think,
is all just part of playing the game. And I
think Michael Parton is trying to levy some leverage onto
his side, which rightfully so, Michael Parsons is going to
(18:05):
be worth every penny of whatever deal gets done, because
a deal is going to get done. I would be
floored if the Cowboys trade Michael Parsons, that would be
the most shocking thing to ever happen, maybe since the
Luka Doncic trade.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
It would be that level of wow.
Speaker 8 (18:21):
I think, maybe even more so, just because when you
have an elite pass rusher, you don't trade them.
Speaker 7 (18:28):
You just don't. You just don't.
Speaker 8 (18:29):
And Michael Parsons is one of one. What he's been
able to do is unbelievable. So I think this is
really just Michael Parsons trying to get leverage back on
his side because frankly Brian outlined it, Cowboys can franchise
tag him not once, but maybe twice. Basically they are
and they are saving so much money in doing that
(18:51):
that they can use the rest of their cap to
spend around him. Now Michael Parsons obviously should not. You know,
he's thinking about himself. He's trying to gain generational wealth
his family, so you understand that he doesn't want to
do that. But you know, at the same time, I
think this all gets done at some point, and once
it does get done. Everybody's going to be singing Kumbaya
because we have been down this road before. They did
(19:12):
it last year with Ceedee Lamb, they did it with
Dak Prescott, it was Zach Martin, Ezekiel Elliott in the past. Eventually,
something will get done. I think again, this is just
Michael Parson's trying to get some leverage onto his side,
which is the smart thing to do.
Speaker 9 (19:25):
Real quick. Since you mentioned the handshake situation several months ago,
let's remember like a handshake doesn't include all the fine
prints and details of a deal, and the reason why
you pay an agent is for that agent to look
out for the best deal that is for you. So
just because Micah and Jerry had that conversation whenever it
(19:48):
happened and shook on, it doesn't necessarily mean that the
agent can't come back afterwards and say, hey, no, actually,
this is what we want and we need And right
now I agree with you guys, like, yeah, the Cowboys
hold all the cards. But at the same time, what
does this situation mean for the team? I mean, you
(20:09):
look at the magazine here, Brian Schottenheimer and Micah Parsons
on there. Yeah, Brian is not the one saying sitting
there he has nothing to do with those negotiating negotiations.
But and we talk about this every year during the season. Yes,
a player is always gonna show up on game day
and play hard, but what does that week look like?
(20:32):
What does your commitment to the team look like? When
those relationships start to get all messed up, and hopefully
they figure this thing out sooner than later. And we
continue to say, so we only have one week where
I have one week here left. They have a week
and have left here in Oxnar. Next thing, you know,
(20:54):
we'll be back at the Stars starting to practice. And
after that things get moving along very very quickly. So
you hope that they can get this thing done soon.
We saw it with Ceedee Lamb and the way that
his body took a little while to get into the
season several weeks. So you hope right off the bat
(21:14):
against Philly that you have in Micah Parsons that is
fully ready to compete.
Speaker 6 (21:18):
I'll say this real quick though, Derek, in those other deals,
the other holdouts, we haven't had the back and forth
between the player and the front office like this that
one has. You know what I'm saying that we haven't
mean the CD, I didn't get the feeling that we
were having a lot.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
It didn't seem like to me.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
With the player actually being here, you kind of get
a little bit more of a sense of the players
actually speaking and talking and you can see body languages and.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Stuff like that.
Speaker 6 (21:45):
That's why I think it's been different with this this
negotiation as some of the others, those players chose to
not be here, and he's here, and so now we
have an opportunity to talk to him, but also though
to kind of see the situation. And so I think
that I think both sides have said some things that
have been very very very strong and and and I
(22:07):
think that's been the biggest difference between the other negotiations.
Speaker 8 (22:10):
You're right, let me ask you this. Do you feel
like in the other situations the player had more leverage
and maybe that's why.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
I man, it's it's yeah.
Speaker 6 (22:20):
I mean the thing about it is, it's hard to
say because the whole thing with with CD, right, I mean,
they were really thinking about I mean, what else did
you have it? I wonder if this organizations And I'm sorry, Tom,
I didn't answer your question worth a damn there, but
because I'm trying to think. I'm trying to think about
the leverage situation. But I wonder if this organization is
(22:42):
kind of looking at what Donovan Asako is doing out
here right now and saying, you know what, We've got Fowler,
We've got Ezraku, We've got Neelan. You know, we've got
Sam Williams. Do we do we can?
Speaker 3 (22:56):
We can? We play? Can?
Speaker 6 (22:58):
You know we're seeing we're see him getting some pass
rush here. So you wonder if is it like me personally,
I said, I just keep saying this, I think they're betting.
I think they're betting on Micah won't miss game checks.
That's my personal view. That's not Dallas Cowboys dot com
view or anything. That's Brian Brodis his personal view. I
just I think they might be betting that he won't
(23:21):
miss those.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
And that's where you're gonna come.
Speaker 9 (23:22):
In and play different personnel, different coaching, different everything. But
last year we got a taste of a couple of
games where Mica wasn't on the field, and you got
to see.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
What that looks like.
Speaker 9 (23:33):
He makes presence is on the field. So yes, you
can play a game, but what level are you playing?
Speaker 6 (23:40):
Do you figure out? Do you figure out now, Like
you say, is Donovan Ezaraku? Is he one of these
guys that was picked at forty four that should have
been picked at four?
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (23:49):
You know that that's that's kind of should should he
have been picked instead of Carter from Penn State?
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Are you know?
Speaker 6 (23:54):
I'm just you know what I'm saying. I mean, that's
what we're kind of at right now. There's there's a
lot of things you're thinking, like, Damn, this.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Kid can rush.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
I mean, he could legitimly rush and it doesn't matter
who he's rushing against.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
But I will say to that point, as good as
he is, imagine how much better he is no question.
And that's the part that I think where.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Yeah, I'm worth it. But I'm with you, I'm with you.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
You can get all these great players you mentioned. By
the way, this past rush I think is going to
be one of the strengths of the same because they're
good and they're deep. But imagine if whatever however good
they are and however deep they are, if they also
got Michael Parsons as part of that, they are even.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
They're so much better.
Speaker 6 (24:32):
But you also wonder, though, to me, as I'm like, listen,
maybe maybe we're not in badest shape if he doesn't play.
Speaker 5 (24:41):
Now, I get you much better off than you were last.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
Year, much better, much better.
Speaker 7 (24:46):
No, Sam Williams, no Fouler, No.
Speaker 8 (24:48):
I mean it's their deepest position on the roster and
one of their best, deep end best.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
So I do think there's something to that. I just
hope at the end of the day, and I keep
saying this, We've been down the road of these standofs.
I even went back to thinking about back in I
think it was ninety three when em It held out
for like the first two weeks of the season and
they went on too and then they somehow the deal
got done and then they were often running right. So
we've seen this happen before. It's a part of the
(25:15):
business of it. You kind of just work through it.
My suspicion is at some point, for all the posturing
and all that, everybody will say they'll get a deal
done and everybody will hug and make up and it'll
be like we love each other.
Speaker 7 (25:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:28):
I think that's what ends up happening.
Speaker 7 (25:29):
Ultimately.
Speaker 8 (25:30):
I think it's gonna play out similar to how dak
Still played out last year, where I don't think it
gets done while we're here in Oxnard. But when we're
back in Dallas before that Philadelphia game, I think Michael
Parsons get signed.
Speaker 7 (25:42):
Well.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
I mean what needs to happen ultimately is David Mulgetta
and Jerry and Steven need to get cornered into a
room to where they can't get out, and it's like, hey, guys,
figure it out. And I think that's how sometimes these
things end up working out, as everybody's just committed to Okay,
it's time to do this, and then you figure it out.
Like that's how it always goes when you're talking about negotiations.
Eventually somebody has to be the one to say, Okay,
(26:04):
let's just sit down and forget this out, and then
it gets worked out. We're gonna take our final break
when we come back. I want to talk about some
of your camp observations, what you've seen out here the
last couple practices. Like I said, they don't have practice

Back to the Break.
Speaker 9 (28:58):
Hey Tanty, connect changes everything.
Speaker 5 (29:01):
Welcome back. It is the final segment of the break.
We were live in Oxnard, California. Let's talk about camp observations.
I want to I want you guys to go down
the line and tell me again as we do two
different things. I want you to tell me about a
moment that you noticed, and then tell me about a
player that's standing out to you. And let's go. Let's
start with you.
Speaker 8 (29:19):
Tommy Dak Prescott had his best day yesterday, I think
of Camp. Threw the ball really well, still missed a
couple of reads and throws. And he mentioned that kind
of yesterday when he was talking to reporters but at
the same time, easily his best day. George Pickens had
I think three touchdowns from Prescott, the last one, you know,
you just kind of see the athleticism and the ball
(29:41):
skills and what he can do in the air, body control,
and just a really good day for those two to connect.
I'll say that was my moment, was that Pickings touchdown.
And then the player that stot out to me absolutely
was Dak Prescott. He was dialed in yesterday.
Speaker 6 (29:55):
I think, to me, my first moment, you know me,
I love a good screen game, right, I'm all about
the screen game.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
We talked about it earlier.
Speaker 6 (30:02):
They had to throw back screen where it went full
flow going to the right and they drew the defense
and next thing you know, we got a wall of
blockers out in front and the throwing the ball. I
love the I love the fact that this coaching staff
is trying to do stuff not only with the quick screens,
with the slots and stuff, but also throwing that to
Turp in the backside of the backfield. I you know,
when you get full flow and you get everybody moving
(30:24):
and then the ball comes. Now you've got a convoy
of people leading you up the sidelines, and I just
love the coordination of that. So anything to do with
you know that that type of that they can.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
Throw defenses off.
Speaker 6 (30:35):
They're going to rush that rush and they're rushing and
now you've got a screen game that you know, Dak
did a really nice job of selling it. So that's
kind of my moment of the day. I'm going to
talk about a rookie wide receiver and tray Shawn Holden.
And it usually sometimes you get a receiver that they'll
have an all training camp type practice.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
You know, we've we've had this.
Speaker 6 (30:57):
It's legendary that the we used to have the all
value and we used to have all you know, we
used to have all these but Trashaun Holden is and
I've been really impressed because it's real easy to kind
of get lost in what's going on with Pickens and
Lamb and Turpin and a little bit now with Mingo
and Tolbert. I'll say this though, with Holden, he has
(31:20):
shown up when they've thrown him the football, whether it's
inside stuff, up the field stuff he can't the back
of the end zone stuff, He's been able to make
some really awesome catches. Adjusting along the way he's probably
not the best separator when it comes to running routes
and stuff, and he finds the ways. But when he
gets the ball in his area, the guy's coming down
(31:43):
with the ball. So tip the cap to him. And
this has been kind of.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
A difficult group because we focus on the top four
or five.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
But he's making that push, Like if this team does
keep a sixth wide receiver, would they in fact, would
he be that guy? But guys like Brooks others they've shown.
But give a tip of the cap to the rookie
for making some place here the last.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
Couple of days.
Speaker 9 (32:05):
Yeah, that's that was my guy as well. I mean
he's a guy that you didn't really know much about. Yeah,
and then you start saying, oh, number seven, not Treveon Dix,
by the way, obviously he's wearing the white jersey, but
seven seven, Oh there's seven again? Wait, who made that guy?
Speaker 6 (32:24):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (32:25):
Seven? So there's no way to avoid him. He's been
catching your eyes and is one of those you're getting
to that point where you have to learn the name
keep an eye. And I'm trying not to get to
to excited because we always see a guy like that
that things out here every single day and then your
oh sorry, your expectations rise and you start expecting, oh,
(32:49):
this awesome moment, and then it doesn't pan out to
be that way. But also at the same time, you
gotta get credit with credit is due and earn, and
he's earned that and he's been doing a so I'm
excited and wonder how he would fit in, how do
they keep him and how much would they play him
in the preseason. As far as a moment, and I
(33:10):
don't mean to make this a bad thing because it's
been exciting, but every time before practice, while they're warming up,
you always see some little gimmick going on, some fun
little activity with the coaches, and yesterday yes Rowdy was
out there doing drills, you know, warming up with the guys,
(33:33):
and it's fun. It gets you excited, pumped up. But
my question to you guys is, as we continue to
post these things on social media and then you get
the fans starting to look at that and the criticism
and then tie that into every little bad news that
comes out as far as injuries later on or whatever.
But as far as these warm ups and excitement, do
(33:57):
you guys, how do you how are you guys taking
this do you guys like it or are you at
that point where you're like, Okay, let's focus on football now.
Speaker 5 (34:05):
That's a deal with anything that happens out here, that
or anything else. I'm always of the belief that I'm
never going to prejudge how effective a specific method or
a thing that a coach wants to do is or
is not. What I want to see at the end
of the day is what is the result. If, as
we've said, they've had practices that we feel like are energetic.
(34:29):
It's the one thing you hear from everybody that if
you ask him, what do you think of training camp
this year? One thing I hear consistently from people, and
what I've seen consistent energy is the energy's up. If
that's the kind of thing that the coach believes gets
the energy up, then great, I could care less, And
I don't think that the coach should be concerned about
what people detractors might say about it if he's getting
(34:51):
the result that he wants to get. And then ultimately
all of it still comes back to as you get
into the season, are you winning games?
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Great?
Speaker 5 (35:01):
Yeah, have a rowdy on a surfboard and surfing through
practice like whatever, you want to do. As long as
you're winning games, great, keep it going. If you're not winning,
that's when I think you have to kind of re
evaluate and say, are you distracted those other things that
you would say as a detractor. I think all those
things become fair if they ultimately don't lead to winning,
(35:22):
because winning is what it's a bottom line business. If
you're winning, great, If you're not, you better change some
things up.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (35:27):
I've yet to get used to the music going the
whole time.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
Yeah, I mean through all these practice, all these practices.
Speaker 6 (35:33):
I think we're eight practices through now, and I just
I haven't got used to that because I'm used to
hearing coaching and I'm used to hearing communication.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
And I'm used to hearing. But hey, if like you said,
it's gonna be.
Speaker 6 (35:44):
All about winning, if it's winning, there'll be more people
that won't be doing nine on seven, and there'll be
more people doing more team stuff, and there'll be more
music playing the whole practice. It's not because I'm an
old guy or something.
Speaker 7 (35:57):
It's just something you just, Oh, it's different.
Speaker 6 (35:59):
It's differ because you are You're used to the players
making checks and you can hear it and you can
hear the coaches coaching the players, and.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
That's that's what I always got out of that.
Speaker 6 (36:10):
But it kind of men some one guy real quick too.
But uh, give you to those Christian Matthew and he
the cornerback.
Speaker 7 (36:17):
Yeah, he had running Yesterday's.
Speaker 6 (36:19):
Actually had a couple of good days where all of
a sudden he gets off the bus and now he's
making plays, you know in a secondary that kind of
needs some corner help and you're thinking, can't body guy
and all that, But thirty seven Christian Matthew, really nice
job at him the last couple of days, getting in
the way, you know, being in coverage knocking the ball down,
you know, knocking another ball down, but being around coming
(36:40):
up and tackling coming and forcing and sometimes you get
guys to come off the street and it takes them
forever to kind of in in there like just a
camp guy. Then this guy looks like he's got a
little feel for how to play the game. So I
just want to point him out as well.
Speaker 5 (36:52):
I will also throw out one observation and you talked
about it a little bit, Tommy, Uh, how you you start.
Dak had a great day yesterday as a part of that.
One thing we saw yesterday I think that we hadn't
really seen in the in the at the level that
we saw yesterday was a deep ball.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (37:07):
I mean it was like every other play downfield, downfield,
turpid downfield, pickings downfield, CD downfield, and they were and
they were connecting on a lot of them. The guys
were getting open, that's a part of it, but they
certainly were connecting on those. And that's where I think
this offense can become extremely dangerous because if they are
gonna be as as the coach talks about it, if
(37:27):
they are going to find a way to establish that
they are a physical run, power run team, and then
they have all these weapons that you can't double everybody,
and those guys are taking shots downfield after a defense
is thinking, we gotta we gotta press up to the
line of scrimmage to stop this run. We gotta press
up to and then you create those opportunities man the
man coverage. That's where this offense gets really dangerous. I
(37:49):
was excited to see that. I think that could be
a really really big thing for this officer.
Speaker 8 (37:53):
And what's going to be really big is the play
action game, right that's where Dak Prescott.
Speaker 7 (37:57):
Statistically has been his best over his career.
Speaker 8 (38:00):
The play action deep ball to George Pickens, and you know,
that's just a flash of what you can have. And
you know Brian Schanheimer and said, hey, we're gonna work
up to We're gonna work up to these deep balls, right,
We're gonna try to avoid all this soft tissue stuff.
We're gonna get these guys' legs under him.
Speaker 7 (38:14):
Now they're getting their legs under him.
Speaker 8 (38:16):
Seeney Lamb on one O five through the Fan yesterday
was saying it usually takes about two weeks for you
to feel kind of game ready. I'm not I don't
think that's exactly what he said. I'll just paraphrase, but
Dak Prescott said the same thing yesterday. Right around that
time is when you start to feel like, Okay, I
can probably go out and play a game now. So
it makes sense that now is when we're starting to
see this deep ball kind of ingrained in and even
(38:37):
in one on ones. I understand this one on one,
not eleven on eleven, but those first three guys, you know, Lamb,
Pickens and Mingo, first three plays all one I think
Seeney Lamb flashed the great late hands you know, elverdron
Bland plan with good coverage and Lamb just track track track,
and then as soon as the ball there, extends his
hands and gets it and then pickens. I mean, you
know we've seen it in his whole career.
Speaker 7 (38:59):
He's a deep po.
Speaker 8 (39:00):
Red zone is like he could be a problem for Yeah,
it's gonna it's gonna be a problem. And I think
he moves a lot better than people give him credit for.
Much better guy, much better after the catch too than
a lot of people give him credit for.
Speaker 7 (39:10):
I've been harping on that.
Speaker 8 (39:11):
So, yeah, this is gonna be a good If they
can get the deep ball, it's going to greatly boost
their off I know that's pretty easy to say, right
if you can connect on the deep ball. But now
they have another guy aside from seedy Lamb who can
go and get it downfield too.
Speaker 5 (39:25):
I want to flip this conversation before we end the show.
I want each you to tell me a player, one
player that you think really needs a good day out here,
haven't really shown a lot or or hasn't shown good things.
A guy that you feel like he needs he's due
for a really good day to kind of get him
back in the mix.
Speaker 8 (39:41):
Jalen Tolbert, I think he's had a couple of rough days.
And Mingo, Jonathan Mingo is putting together a really good camp.
Absolutely so I understand seven receiving touchdowns on the team
last year, but Jalen Tolbert had some rough days.
Speaker 7 (39:55):
He could use a bounce back.
Speaker 9 (39:57):
H Let's see. I would I would say we talked
about him a couple of weeks ago, lip Key, hun
Her Lipkey. I would expect him to be doing a
lot more by now. Sorry, with what was said at
the beginning of camp, him being specific named that Brian
(40:20):
Schottenheimer mentioned a guy that we've seen him have the
talent and the capability to be useful on the team
and be a weapon, I feel like I would like
to see more. Like I think he's starting to kind
of disappear in the shadows a little bit and I'm
seeing at the time, you know, it's always you get
to see a lot of Deucevong and now he's recovering
(40:42):
and all that. But he's a guy that I want
him to take a step forward and see doing a
lot more on the field.
Speaker 6 (40:49):
I kind of feel like the John Stevens has lost
a little steam and uh, you know these with span
Ford being out, Stevens has gotten more opportunity. He's again,
he's two years, two knee surgeries. He's wearing a knee
brace on the left knee. It's not a bulky one.
It's kind of a lightweight one. And he's doing the
best he can and they're having him get involved in
(41:11):
some stuff. He's playing, is the move guy, the inside
blocker down the field, things like that.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
He had a he's had a couple of drops.
Speaker 6 (41:19):
The Tolbert one, by the way, was really really good, Tommy,
that was that one he needs to have.
Speaker 3 (41:23):
But if you look at overall though.
Speaker 6 (41:24):
Too, John Stevens is not having the type of camp
that we've seen John Stevens in the past.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
Half.
Speaker 5 (41:31):
Yeah, I was I saw one of the drops he
had yesterday and I was watching. I was just thinking, man,
that's that's the catch. Last year before last, before he
got hurt, he would have easily made. And I just
wonder if some of this is just the confidence in
the in the injury and kind of just you know,
it takes a little bit, takes some time and get
yourself back right even though there. Yeah, and you wonder,
(41:53):
like how how much that factors in when he's gotten
hurt out here twice? Yeah, And does that does that
play into it where he's worried about that? You know,
I don't know that. I haven't talked to him about that,
but I just wonder if that's a part of it.
Speaker 8 (42:03):
Doesn't look like he's very confident both on the field
and in his in his knee, and that's that's a
tough part.
Speaker 7 (42:10):
I think.
Speaker 8 (42:11):
You know, something that we don't talk about enough in
the media is the mental block that guys have to
overcome when they have a major knee injury, like Trayvon
Diggs is going to have to go through. It's I
ohone revel is gonna have to go through trust and
being able to trust your knee again after incurring one
of the most brutal injuries in sports.
Speaker 7 (42:30):
It's tough.
Speaker 8 (42:31):
It's really tough, and we've seen it, you know, affect
a lot of guys over the years who were stars
before they got hurt and then afterwards we're just never
the same. That's not to say you can't be the same,
but there's a mental aspect to this that is very
important and I don't think we talk about it enough.
Speaker 3 (42:45):
All right, that's a wrap.
Speaker 5 (42:46):
We will be back with you guys next week. We'll
be on on Tuesday. Brian heading back to Dallas. You
have any pardon words, anything you want to come through?
Speaker 3 (42:54):
Man, you know what, I will say this quickly. If
I can't, you know me, I never can't. I think
the practices have been super competitive.
Speaker 6 (43:03):
I love the aspect where there is a win on
offense and then the very next play there's a knock,
a fumble, or there's an interception or there's a sack.
Speaker 3 (43:12):
I love the fact that this practice has been very competitive,
but it's had balance to it.
Speaker 6 (43:16):
Yeah, it's not one side, it's just kicking the other
side's ass, and I think that bodes very well for
the style, the way he practices, the players buying into
the practice.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
Every player that we've talked to.
Speaker 6 (43:28):
Has been very complimentary of that aspect of the practice
and how they're able to get work. But man, the
balance of the practice has been very, very very good.
Speaker 7 (43:36):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
All right, that's a wrap.
Speaker 5 (43:38):
We'll be back next week till Amber Garcia, Tommy Yurs.
