The following is the production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys Let's go. Are you ready for a break?
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (00:16):
Are you ready for a break?
Speaker 5 (00:18):
Absolutely?
Speaker 4 (00:19):
Ready for a break?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Yeah, and so much for that.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
It's time for The Break on Dallas Cowboys dot Com
with Mbar Garcia, Brian brought us, Votch Lombardi, and Derek Eagleton.
Speaker 6 (00:38):
It is Tuesday, September thirtieth, twenty twenty five, Season twenty one,
episode number forty seven. Welcome to the latest edition of
The Break, live from the SWBC Mortgage Studios at the Star,
represented by lglg's the world's number one ol A TV
brand for eleven years in counting See why at LG
dot Comport slash O, led Evo. We got our normal
crew minus Brian. He's out today. He'll be back to
(01:00):
and help us get ready for Giants Verse. I'm sorry
Jets versus Cowboys. Uh talking about the Jets offense tomorrow,
but today.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Me, I am what they call a chatty patty. I
could talk all day by myself if needed.
Speaker 6 (01:14):
Here's the question, though, here's a question because it's like
your your go to to be like so Brian brought us.
You always calling for Brian Brock So today, are you
gonna say so? Amber Garcia like are you gonna go all.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
In like that?
Speaker 6 (01:26):
And and and maybe even grace us with a Derek
Eagleton like, how you gonna how you're gonna make that work?
Speaker 2 (01:31):
This is a problem. When I'm talking to my friends
way back in the day, prior to me working here,
and I was just a fan of this place, I
would talk to my friends, Hey, did you see what
Brian brought us said? I would always say that a bunch.
So when I'm talking to you, So when I talked
to him, like it's a bad tick that I'm trying
to stop because people think I'm doing it. It's people
people think it's a bit, right, Yeah, I thought it
(01:53):
was a bit. It's not a bit. I'm just I'm
saying Brian brought us because as a fan of him
my whole life, I just been saying, oh yeah, Brian.
But Derek was like Derek, Derek Eagleton is too long,
you know what I mean? Deleson Ambar, But Brian brought us.
You know what I'm saying, kind of flows, it flows
a little bit. So I need to stop saying broadest.
(02:14):
Ye say, Brian, I say.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Now you like y'all friends, you don't need legal name.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it'll happen at some point, but
it ain't gonna happen to day, tomorrow or Friday.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Man, Well, he ain't gonna be here today, so it
will happen today. We won't call him. Brian brought us
to day, but he'll be back tomorrow, so we'll be
back in on tomorrow. All right, here's where I want
to start today.
Speaker 6 (02:35):
So I had no idea yesterday when I got onto
X that I thought I was just making a random
tweet about something that I thought was pretty interesting, and
it turned into a whole thing, and people kind of
went at it from a lot of different angles. I
thought it was pretty self explanatory, and it seemed to
(02:55):
me like it was like, Okay, this makes a ton
of sense.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
And by the way, I.
Speaker 6 (03:00):
Think the vast majority of people agree like this actually
makes a lot of sense. There were some who disagreed.
So I thought, hey, it's a good idea for us
to bring this on the air, and I want to
get your opinions because I respect you guys more than
I respect a lot of others.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
So let me let me lay out for you what
my thought was.
Speaker 6 (03:14):
PFF put out a graphic and you may have seen
the graphic where they said that Micah was the highest
graded player in the game Cowboys versus the Packers. Now
my tweet was, if that's true and he was the
best player on the field and Dallas still scored forty points,
what does that say about the relative importance of a
(03:37):
dominant edge?
Speaker 4 (03:38):
The thoughts.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Derrick Eagleton, You're not wrong, first and foremost. I think
it varies. If you do this over thirty two teams,
then maybe the average would be more likely that the
dominant edge will take a game over more. But when
Dak Prescott is in his bag getting real ball on
time quickly. I also think this this has a lot
(04:03):
to do with, you know, Shoty and all those guys.
Hey man, send help until or send this, you know,
wear him down over the game. Shouts out to Nate Thomas.
But he came in when it was nice. He came
in late, and they was tied, and and he was
revveed up, so he got a real good matchup for him.
I think you know what I'm saying, Like you have
a fantastic point, derekle But results are at the end
(04:26):
of the day, right, so Nick can go out there
and be like, oh, yeah, I'm just the best player
in the game. I'm blocked one on one do But
I think I think that neutralized them. I think the
offense neutralized them, you know, and at times in the
run game I think Tyler Guidon kind of neutralized them
a little bit. I would love to know, pff, how
they get their their their ratings. I don't mind how
(04:47):
they put stuff together and be like, oh, when we're
grading like this, this player does that. That's cool, but
their grades and stuff like that, I don't really know
how to do it. To the to the blind eye.
Even going back and watching film, if you hyper look
at Michael parts, yeah he made some plays, But.
Speaker 6 (05:02):
Michael had a great game. Let's fantastic. That is, let's
not gloss over that. I'm saying he had a fantastic.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
But watching the game, it was straight, we were straight,
you know. So to your point, Dery, I can make
the argument that what Kendner Clark is doing for Cowboys
Run game wise, I ain't gonna say that's gonna start
a fight. But I'm not saying you want to go there,
that's gonna start a fighting man, but just cool man. Michael. Look,
Michael was good man, but Dak was better. I said it, like,
(05:27):
there you go.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
I mean, yeah, you hit the nail right on the
head with that. I mean, that's where it comes down to.
But you also can't negate those games that he is
or has been very impactful.
Speaker 7 (05:40):
There's value to that.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
It just depends who the opponent is and how the
offense is able to.
Speaker 7 (05:46):
Keep him under control.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
One of the things that we talked about yesterday was
them getting him tired, you know, when you were having
to put so much on that person and having to,
let's say with the run game, having him on the
move like that, he gets exhausted by the end of
the game, and that just facilitates what you're doing as
an offense. So I think it all comes down to
(06:10):
Dak having a really great game and also what the
offensive line was able to do.
Speaker 7 (06:17):
But I wouldn't say, let's say, if we were to face.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
Them every week, I don't think that would be the
constant result. I think they would find a way to
free up Micah and let Micah get to the quarterback.
But Luckily we don't play them every week, but we've
seen them when he played for Dallas. How did he
look like against Philly games like that? I think those
(06:41):
were games that he struggled with most often than not, right.
Speaker 6 (06:45):
And I guess that's the point I'm making. This is
not to say Micah can't be dominant. That's not what
I was saying. The point of what I was saying
is the relevant of the relative importance of a dominant
edge in today's game. And what I mean by that is,
I'll challenge you think about right now, who are the
best edge players in the National Football League.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Miles Garrett hadn't done nothing with the Browns, Watt hasn't
done big super Bowl wise, Right, they haven't done anything
with Pittsburgh. Crisby hasn't done much with the Raiders. Parsons
hasn't done much with the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
There you go, and that's my point.
Speaker 6 (07:23):
I don't think that in today's NFL having even a
dominant the best edges in the NFL, that is not
a prerequisite for team success. What is a prerequisite for
team success is having a dominant quarterback. And so when
you start thinking about roster construction, if you're gonna pay
dak as the highest paid player in the National Football League?
(07:46):
Is it a smart idea to also pay an edge
to be the highest paid non quarterback player in the
National Football League. That's what the point I was trying
to make. The importance of that position. The importance of
the edge position is not as great as quarterback.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
It's one thing, Bro Jesus brother preach.
Speaker 8 (08:05):
Talk to him, Talk to him, Nate to him, Nate,
I was he scared the hell out of it.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
I heard a loud, knowing look over there, and wasn't
nobody up there. He kicked down the door with a batman.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
In today's up on people like that.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
I'm actually kind of shocked and and a little bit
disappointed that neither one of y'all had my back and
jumped up to be like that man.
Speaker 7 (08:34):
He was behind me too.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Nate is an older gentleman, but he has that old
man's strength where if I get close to him, I'm done.
So I'm going to hear you.
Speaker 6 (08:43):
Because you'll grab your shoulder, and sometimes when you grab
your shoulder, it's like, Nate.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Get your brand, like stop but tell him my pointy,
your point.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
My point is it is not a prerequisite to team success.
Speaker 6 (08:59):
And the other thing about that is you can take
a guy like Micah out of the game, even being
a he had.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
A dominant game.
Speaker 6 (09:06):
The difference was if you go back and watch that game,
there were at least five or six times I saw
in that game where Dak could have and I'm saying
this with some hyperbole, that could have died on the field,
like literally he was coming for Dak and but for
the fact that Dak Oh get rid of the ball
saved him, which one time I will say Tyler Smith
(09:27):
saved him.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
I don't know if you saw that one.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
He got he beat Geyton and Tyler Smith kind of
saw him out of the corner of his eye and
just basically lunged at him.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
And he didn't take him out.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
All he did was just kind of diverted him just
a little bit enough to where he didn't hit Dak,
but he was gonna.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
Have a free shot at Dak.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Sure.
Speaker 6 (09:46):
So my point is that I think a quarterback on
the other side of that, he actually covers problems. So
for example, in that game, there were a number of
times where the offensive lineman didn't quite get their block
on Micah. Dak getting rid of the ball covered. That's
the difference a quarterback. A really good quarterback has the
ability to cover those kinds of works a defensive end.
(10:09):
If a team wants to take him out of the game,
they can dedicate enough resources to take him out of
a game and then it creates opera. Or the quarterback
can just beat him by getting rid of the ball
quick and you can negate a player like that.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
Well, it just goes back to where he's at in
his career currently. I think it's what is it ten
years now or I get confused if it's ten or eleven.
Speaker 7 (10:28):
I've got that. But you just see the way he.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
Has to progressed in that sense, because I remember very
well and I'm sure he does too, those years where
it only took one of Aligneman, a starter, to be
out of the game, and then he is just under
pressure constantly and it's just hard to get the game going.
And in this case, you got two starters that came
out of the game then plus one that with Tyler
(10:54):
guy in getting hurt, he comes out as well. So
even in those instances where the offensive line and wasn't perfect,
I still give them a ton of credit for the
way that they were able to overall manage that game
and protecting Dak as a whole because in years past
it only took one guy to ruin the whole game.
(11:14):
And you see the changes now, and to me, that's
very refreshing and motivating to see the progress there, combined
with Dak's ability that he currently has in the confidence
that he brings into his game.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
I'll say it's much better when you have a group
of rushers, Like it's more about your rush group as
opposed to just one guy. If Miles Garrett had Michael
Parsons and they were both on the same line', that'd
be terrifying, like how do you? How do you? How
do you deal with that? But it's always like Miles
Garrett and his group of guys, and it's TJ Why
and Nick Herbig or something Right or or Micah and
(11:49):
Tank Lawrence. So what you want is this group to
where you can get pressure from anywhere, the guys that
can win one on one matchups, not just one guy
that could just beat anybody. I hate giving giving credit
to Eagles and characters made me sick. It would a
cuss if we weren't here. But Hassan Reddick is cool
when he was a guy that can take on double teams, right,
But when he's gone, when Milton Williams get busy, and
(12:09):
then Jalen Carter gets busy, and then Nolan Smith, So
you need a line full of guys. And I think
that's what Jerry was thinking, right, like, hey man, we
don't have Michael Parsons, but the pass rush as a
whole would be fine. I think they went about it
the right way. We're just not seeing the results. I
think Dante Fowler can do it, we just haven't seen
it Sam and all those other guys. But it's group stuff,
(12:31):
and stopping the run is like the first place that
you go there, right, But yeah, you can have pass
rushes and the Cowboys have had them, but if you
can't stop the run, you never really get to rush
the pastor in that way. So Michael's biggest criticism Derek
was he's a great pass rusher, but what is he
gonna do versus the run? Like these other guys Crosby, Miles, Max,
they're good versus the run also, so that doesn't really
(12:53):
help Micah in that way. The same with Garret and
some of these other guys on that D line for
the Packers.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
Well, and when you start looking at that, I mean,
it's hard to find positive on the defense. But when
you talk about stopping the run and you have that
area to be successful, it helps your defense as they're
killing you a faster way with the passes, so then
you don't get us tired in a sense, so you
(13:17):
give more time to your offense to come back. And
now we go back to your offense being the one
that gets has to score points. But what I'm saying is,
and I think we talked about it at some point,
I'm with y'all with the sudden death type of mentality
rather than just to slow kill with a team running
against you the whole game and wearing you down. So
(13:41):
there's a positive in that area at least.
Speaker 7 (13:44):
Now you just gotta figure out.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
I wouldn't trade what we're doing versus the run right
now for what we did previous years. I love what
we're doing right now. Kenny Clark, You're so it's so weird.
You're so good versus the run right now while you're
likes playing bad like that's the weird part about.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
It, right and that where you're seeing gaps in your
run defense.
Speaker 6 (14:05):
It's typically because your linebackers just aren't being able to
get off blocks, aren't being able to get through the
trash and get to the to the ball carrier.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Yeah, So flu's all we gotta do, looking at you, Flues,
all we gotta do is muddy those looks and get
to the pass and will be.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
Even Yeah, And that's the thing, like they don't. I
don't believe currently the way the defense is playing it
will get the Cowboys to the point that they want
to be this season.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
But what I do believe.
Speaker 6 (14:32):
Is this offense and really offense and special teams because
between Butter and Cavante Turfin returning, you got a really
good special teams, one of the better units in the NFL.
So between your offense and your special teams, if you
can get your defense to just be middle of the road,
not be at the bottom of the league, but at
least be middle of the road, you could really make
(14:52):
some I think that's when this team could actually be
a contender because of how good this offense is. If not,
they could end up very summer to the Bengals from
last year, where their office is just really great but
they can't stop nobody and if you can't stop nobody
in today's NFL gluck trying to outscore everybody every single week.
You'll outscore them sometimes, as we've seen this year, you'll
outscore them. Sometimes sometimes you'll end up in a tie.
(15:14):
But at the end of the day, if you if
you're only relying on the ability to outscore everybody, you
just can't do it. It's too much pressure to do
that every single week.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
Three more, that's all you need.
Speaker 6 (15:23):
There, you go, all right, we're gonna take our first break.
We will come back. Even though Brian's out here. He

Welcome back. It is the second segment of the Break.
We are alive from s WBC Morri Studios. At the
start of the segment, it's brought to you by blockchain
dot Com. All right, let's dive inside the brain of
Brian brought us. He is not here, but he did
send me his questions, so let's.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Go through them.
Speaker 6 (18:33):
Question number one, is Turpin proven to you that he's
much more than.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
A gadget player? That's a Brian question. Anyway.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
I said I wouldn't gonna say nothing bad about them people,
no more, man, But I tweeted this morning, I was like, man,
it took Maya McCarty three years to figure out how
to use turbin, and I don't want to talk about
that man. But he don't. He don't work in No
More right. But when he's at the press conference, right, Hey, coach,
what do you think about getting turbaned involved? Oh we're
gonna figure it out. We're gonna we're gonna know. But
(19:03):
turps the right kind of and he'll never get going.
He'll have like a big game. Yep, never see him
no more right. I'm like man Shotty in company And
here like at two and a half weeks and Turpin's
doing like wide receiver things right. And if you look
at how the game was last week, you would think
that Pickings would be the guy that does lamb stuff.
Pickens just kept doing picking stuff. He just got more targets.
(19:27):
Turpin was the one doing lamb stuff in terms of
I'm gonna move all over the formation, different parts of
the field. I'm gonna attack you short, you know, medium downfield.
Turping made a tough catch over the middle one time,
toe tapping on the sideline. And that's a tough throw
because Turp and five seven man, so that gotta fit
it perfectly. And Turping toe tapping catch fall. You don't
(19:47):
get that from Gad, from Lucky white Head or something.
He don't work in nom on either, like, it's just time.
It's just it's just so so different. So I think
it's about time that we as a fan based media
group that we all look at Turping and just move
him on from the gadget guy title. It's not just
I'm running Jess sweeps and coming off the field or
I'm faking or reverse coming on the field like turbans
getting busy and defense have to account for that. You
(20:10):
can actually see counters corners over compensating because they know
that that Turpic can fly. So Turpin ends up being
a good route runner by default because he moves quick
and they're having to account for that. So shoutside of Turpe,
he is definitely getting bus as a wide received for sure.
Speaker 5 (20:25):
Well he started right off a training camp at the beginning.
You saw the quickness, the speed of the ability for
him to make a lot of those breaks and just
take off. And we've seen that before. And sometimes you're like, man,
maybe they know more than we do. And I'm talking
about it in the past, right, maybe they're seeing something
(20:46):
that we're.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Not and that I don't work out.
Speaker 5 (20:48):
Yeah, you know, but then when you see it happening
now and then it being successful you're like, wow, man,
it makes you wonder all the other times with other
players that you're like the missed opportunities that have occurred
in the past. So with him, yeah, absolutely, he's more
(21:09):
than just a gadget player. He's shown that he's taken
advantage of every single rep and the fact that he
has so much toughness, because one of the things that
concerns me is like, okay, you have you have him
out there that much, he's like.
Speaker 7 (21:22):
Oh can he can? He put up with.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
So many snaps and playing for that long and you know,
he's a tiny guy.
Speaker 7 (21:30):
But he's strong.
Speaker 5 (21:32):
You've seen the way he'll just boom push back, and
I think he's very deserving of what he's getting and
he should be getting a little more every week.
Speaker 7 (21:44):
You know, if he can, if he can take it,
then why not.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (21:47):
The interesting thing always for me was if you go
back and look at him, and you guys study film
with these college guys.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
When he was in college, he was a receiver. He
wasn't just a return guy.
Speaker 6 (21:56):
He was a receiver and he was a really good receiver,
and they used him in a line out of the
ways that you're seeing now that the Cowboys are using him.
So it always seems strange to me that the Cowboys
couldn't seem to quite for the last several years, couldn't
quite figure out how to use him as more than
just a gadget player, because that's what he's always He's
always been a player that could do more than just
be a gadget player. So we saw it, you're right, Ambro.
(22:18):
I mean, we had the benefit of watching training camp,
and so we saw all through training camp that this
staff understood how they should use him and were committed
to using him in a lot of different ways, as
a runner out of the backfield, as a pass catcher
out of the backfield, and certainly as a wide receiver
as well. And and so it's no surprise that now
we're starting to see that in games and he's making
a contribution, especially with CD out.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
Well today just quickly. I think part of it is
that these old men got to get out of their way.
If we knew anything about Mike. I hate keep saying
his name, but he was one of those guys where, well,
I want you to play all the receivers he beef
in there, he's he's he wasted a lot of our
time is you know these these coaches and look, it's
not just him all of the league, right, Like they
have a type, right, It's like I want my wide
(23:03):
receiver be able to play x, X, Y Z, whatever whatever,
and I want to be a certain size. I want
a big slot receiver. So maybe that was the reason
why you would keep him on the sideline to where
if you get one of these younger coaches, they just
take whatever you're good at and we just gonna rumble
with it. Jordan Lewis's career got got wasted a bunch
because of that. I don't like small corners, so I'm
not gonna play small corners. Jodan louis fantastic. He's fantastic.
(23:25):
And that's that's all I have say about And.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
That's good stuff. All right, let's move on. Second question.
Speaker 6 (23:29):
Has the play caller or the running game been most
beneficial to Dak I'll.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Let Amboy go for because I talk a lot.
Speaker 12 (23:37):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (23:38):
Of course this is coming from Brian.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
It make it inside the brain. Brian, you know what.
Speaker 5 (23:49):
I Okay, it's both, but but Haun, if I had
to pick one, I will go with with.
Speaker 7 (24:01):
The play.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
The play running back.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
The thing is that I'm trying to do process because
this is the first time you hit us with this question, right,
I'm trying to process because I do love the relationship
that Dak has created with the play color Brian Schottenheimer.
Their relationship right off the bat, They're shown to be
very vocal with each other. They've shown Brian has shown
(24:29):
to be able to listen to what Dak has to
say and take that into consideration and apply it.
Speaker 7 (24:35):
You know, it's a relationship that works.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
And with that, I'm seeing a game and we keep
talking about Dak's success and obviously it is always helpful
when you have a good running game. But at the
same time, we've seen in previous years, all throughout Dak's
career that we've always talked about that for him to
be successful, he needs all these other elements to be
working around him. And this is a time where we've
(25:01):
seen him, regardless of the.
Speaker 7 (25:03):
Situation, he's thriving.
Speaker 5 (25:06):
And I hate this question because it just goes hand
in hand. You can't you can't talk about a successful
quarterback without giving appreciation to what it's happening with the
running game, at least in Dallas. So I don't like
your question.
Speaker 7 (25:22):
This is both.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
I say this it is both, but it's more one
way for me. First of all, I don't like this
new rhetoric that Deck just got good this year. There's
a lot of talking points going around. Deck's been led
the league and offense and all this kind of stuff,
qbrs and all this, you know, number two in the
MVP race and all this. But if there's one thing
(25:44):
that Tom Moore, Josh McDaniels, Bruce Arian, Sean Payton, one
thing that they didn't do is they didn't get in
the way of their top tier quarterback. They didn't make
things difficult for no reason. They either helped out and
they'll ask questions, Hey, what do you like, What do
you want to do. That's what you want to do.
We're gonna put this in offense, and that's what they'll do.
(26:06):
We saw and I'm not gonna say his name, we
saw this cat come in the Kellen Moore, Lennehan tree.
It was all working, it was fine, it was a
good offense there. Let's switch everything and turn it into
this slants, dragon concepts, running a field, turning around. We're
gonna make it this and Dak all of a sudden
(26:27):
is a tight window throw quarterback. That's that's a good
that's a good sounding stat in in in in in
theory how it sounds, but it means is that guys
aren't getting open, so Dak has to make quick reads.
Get the ball, Da da da da. You want Dak
to be free. So what I think Schottenheimer does is
this maybe a young coach thing because he just got
the job and he got a lot of energy for it. Hey, Dak,
(26:48):
what do you like? What are some of the things
you want to do. I'm not gonna get in your way,
and I probably Shoty probably got a big sheet called
that that's favorite calls, and Dak knows those calls, and
they got this synergy that's just working right now. It's
one hundred percent of play calling. Because if the play
caller was different, Dak all of a sudden to be
looking like a weird quarterback, going like, man, why can't
(27:08):
that get going? Why can't this office get going? Dak
looks like he's been, that's been a top tier quarterback.
He's back to that now. Took a couple of years
off when some people took over play calling, and because
of play calling, your run game kind of gets good
as well. Because of that being great, your run game
kind of gets good as well. Off the back of that,
shouts out of Clayton Adams as well, but Dak been
(27:29):
getting busy and shouts out to Shotten him for acknowledging
it well.
Speaker 5 (27:32):
Also, I think what has been very, very beneficial for
Schottenheimer is the fact that he was here during Mike McCarthy. Yeah,
he was the one, He was the offensive coordinator. McCarthy
was the one making the play calls and all of that.
Speaker 7 (27:47):
But that led for Brian.
Speaker 5 (27:50):
To be able to see with his own eyes, yes,
this is not working. Obviously he didn't have that role necessarily,
but I think there was some there were some issues there,
but you get to see it, this is not working,
this is not what's best, and now moving forward. And
I truly believe that's why his conversation with Jerry Jones
as he was getting interviewed for the job went so
(28:13):
well because he was able and I don't want to
call him a fan, but just to use that as
a comparison, he was able to have kind of that
fan perspective of like, yes, you're in it, but not
fully in it, because you're kind of watching some other
somebody else do the job, and I don't know how
to fully explain it, but if that makes sense.
Speaker 7 (28:35):
So that helped a lot.
Speaker 5 (28:36):
That helped a lot for him to be able to
point out the things that were not working, the things
that were not catering to your quarterback, and now applying
that and really truly working in that relationship with Dak
Prescott in his opinion about.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Everything, and bar, do you know what dirty mcinn is?
Dirty mackin, dirty mackin, Derek Nose, do you know what
dirty mackinn is? No, if I had to beg because
you made a fanad his point when this process first
started happening, I'm willing to bet you Shoddy went to
went to Dak and said, hey, man, I know it's
like this, it can be like this, going in and
(29:10):
telling people that it could be like this. Then he
went to them and said, missus Jones, I know it's
like this. This is what it can be. And I
already got the cod sign of your quarterback. I ain't
saying I know for sure, but if I had to guess,
I had, I bet you dirty mackin was involved, because
if you ain't got a resume You're gonna have the
dirty Mac somehow. I bet you dirty Mackin. Do you
think since you smiled, do you think dirty Mackin was involved?
Speaker 6 (29:31):
Since you I'm out of that, But I look, I
don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility. But I
gotta be see, Derek, I think the reality is that.
Speaker 5 (29:40):
Dirty making is slang for a deceptive or underhanded form
a flirting. Nur why I should have run that out
in my often okay head.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
Yea, but I know the point, the point, the point.
Speaker 6 (29:55):
You're making, and I don't think I don't think it was.
I don't think it was anything deceptive. What I do think,
what I do think it was is.
Speaker 7 (30:01):
I'm really honest.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
I think no.
Speaker 6 (30:04):
I think he was able to say to ownership, Look, man,
I have been dealing with your quarterback, who is your
highest paid player, the highest play player.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
In the NFL.
Speaker 6 (30:13):
I have been dealing with your offensive lineman. I was
dealing with the previous head coach. And based on that perspective,
I'm the one person in this world right now who
probably has a best understanding of why you are where
you are, and so I feel like I can come in.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
And through zero point one, two, three, four, and five.
Speaker 6 (30:36):
I can make a difference for you now by the
way I've been dealing with your quarterbacks. I know he
agrees with some of this stuff, and some of this stuff.
He probably feels like I can help him in those
ways too.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
You deserve a better huh so dirty.
Speaker 4 (30:48):
M Come on, I'm just saying, like, I feel your point.
Speaker 6 (30:52):
I understand your point, but I do think it did
put him in a really unique It didn't put him
in a really unique situation coming into this this head
coaching position, or at least interviewing for that coaching position,
because he was in a very unique position. It's not
often the new head coach had the benefit of without
the responsibility, being in the building and being able to say, Hey, this, this,
(31:13):
and this could be changed and we would be much
better if we did these things.
Speaker 7 (31:16):
Yeah done. My definite final answer is play calling.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
There you go, going back to last year, this is
just reminded me at times where you had a running
game and well.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
They weren't using it. It's like that's the other thing.
They had a running game. I was much better than
the way they used it. That goes on the play caller.
In my opinion.
Speaker 6 (31:35):
So yeah, we're gonna take our final break. We will
come back. Brian still got more questions for us, So
we'll go. We'll keep going. In the final second, We'll

Speaker 6 (34:18):
Welcome back, final segment of the Breaklock. That's WBC Mortgage
Studios at the Star. Brian Brodis is not here, but
Brian Brodis is making his presence felt. We are diving
into the brain of Brian Brodis. Got some good questions
here for us. Let's keep that thing going. Here's the
next question. Are you still interested in rotating these cornerbacks
or do you just want to go with two starters.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
When I heard that the Cowboys were going to rotate
your corners, I thought kyri Elan was going to be
the guy that sits down. He was playing the least
best out of all of them, and you know, we
know what Digs can be. We had a feeling that
Bland was going to do a little better. Bland kind
of got picked on a little bit. But hey, first
game back and Dobbs just seems to win Pro Bowl
votes against us. That's just how he gets down. If
(35:01):
they continue to rotate corners in the future, I would
imagine it'll be a combination of Ready on the inside
and Trey and Bland on the outside.
Speaker 7 (35:10):
If I had to guess, sorry, I was.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
He was reading Dirty Magangue.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
She's still diving in Dirty macin thing is fascinating.
Speaker 5 (35:19):
I went for the first time, no to our live
stream on your YouTube, So I was just looking at
the chat, so yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (35:26):
So I was like, hey, by the way, for those
out there listening, you can't go over to YouTube and
watch it live there. You can watch on our app live.
There's a lot of different places you can watch it live.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
I'd be in that chat.
Speaker 7 (35:35):
Should use this more often, you know, it's.
Speaker 6 (35:38):
They got some good comments. Is there something that's real
good that you should point out?
Speaker 5 (35:42):
Well, let's see, he said, just to compare a. Turping
has eleven receptions this season. Going back to that Turping conversation,
his career high is twelve, and.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
We're wait, you didn't know that his career high for
receptions and was twelve.
Speaker 7 (36:00):
I believe that's what this person said. I don't know,
I gotta confirm.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
But I thought it was close to sixteen. It is right.
Speaker 7 (36:07):
But the fact that we're week four, week five, yeah, that.
Speaker 6 (36:12):
Is to realize it was that low.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
It was low. It was low.
Speaker 7 (36:16):
Troy Moore.
Speaker 5 (36:17):
He also points out how Turping helps in the blocking
game when he's out there blocking as well. Going back
to his tiny little body, but he's so powerful little body,
but he's so impressive and I've seen some of those
blocks he he can't.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Yeah, Turpin's blocking is actually so brilliant and fascinating because
he's not powerful, but he moves in one direction so
fast that it like the mass. I don't know the
scientific whatever, but the mass and speed goes in one
direction and it creates the force.
Speaker 7 (36:49):
Oh look at this the chat. Everybody say what up?
But every I love you.
Speaker 4 (37:01):
Just blowing up.
Speaker 5 (37:02):
I know, I just discover a different type of connection
right now.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
So this is that's what I'm doing, right, like I'm
always tapping with.
Speaker 7 (37:13):
My gang, my gang.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
What says uh, Derek never never thought he would have
heard the term dirty mac and ever on the break
now when he started to show years ago, but now here.
Speaker 6 (37:24):
No, Nick would have never used it. Of course Nick
would have never used that term. I'm just neither would
have never thrown it out. So yeah, all right, here
we go. This This is the question. We're back onto
the question are you still interested in rotating cornerbacks or
do you just want to go with the two?
Speaker 4 (37:38):
But I think we were on you amber.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Your answer, Uh, just get whatever? Say it again, saya,
answer again, because it's the right answer.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Is it? Of course I actually disagree with you by that.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
That's cool, perfect.
Speaker 5 (37:53):
Let's see, I'm not fully satisfied just yet with what
you what was done in this previous game. I d
see did see some improvement, but still you That's where
I'm struggling with giving you the right answer, because maybe
go with the two another week and see.
Speaker 7 (38:15):
Where you're at at that point.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
But right now you're still giving up huge plays. We've
seen that, and that has been a big problem for
this secondary And I don't know if that is just
something that you need to adjust with the help of
your safeties and create some other.
Speaker 7 (38:34):
Game plan there.
Speaker 5 (38:36):
But I don't have an answer for you because I'm
not satisfied yet even without change.
Speaker 6 (38:43):
Look the way I look at it is right now,
I don't think there is a single cornerback on this
team that I would say is playing at their top level,
at the level I have most become accustomed to seeing
them play. And because of that, I'm comfortable with the
idea of continuing to rotate them until that settles in,
because at the very least, what it does it forces
(39:06):
the offense to play different styles of cornerbacks at different
times in the game, and they don't know who's going
to be in front of them at any given moment,
so you can't adapt to I know I can beat
and I'm not saying this is it. But let's say,
for example, Bland, I know I can beat Bland deep
because I'm faster in him. Well, if you line up
and now you got somebody else on you who is
faster than Bland, now maybe you can't beat him, and
(39:28):
so it changes kind of how you have.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
To approach that.
Speaker 6 (39:31):
So until they settle in and I'm getting the level
of play from the cornerbacks that I have come to expect.
Then rotate them and just keep a fresh guy out
there and let them all keep getting better until you
get to a point where you can make that determination.
I think it's better long term to have a set
group because that group can jail together more. But I
(39:51):
think right now, I don't think any of them is
playing to that level to where you know, these are
the guys that definitely should be out there and this
guy needs to be sitting down.
Speaker 5 (39:59):
I'm excited though, to see more of Land and we
have talked about him.
Speaker 7 (40:03):
We know what he can do, but.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
Health wise, in the way that he's moving around, he
looks really good. I know it was his first comeback,
but I'm expecting him to continue to get better more
going back to his regular form.
Speaker 7 (40:21):
And we talked about Trevon Diggs the other day.
Speaker 5 (40:23):
I'm actually, like I one hundred believe that after Seannenheimer's
words out in the media, I do think he's gonna
take that and it's gonna light up a different fire
inside of inside of him to where he's gonna go
out there and hopefully we slowly start to see him
or no slow, I don't want nothing slow. We start
(40:44):
to see him yeah, yeah, I'm like at one point
he's got a kick in already. But yes, hopefully we
get to see him be that Trevon Diggs that he
once was.
Speaker 6 (40:58):
All right, So question, are these receivers starting to find
their rhythm in this offense? To talk about guys like
Jalen Tolbert, Ryan Flinoy, we already talked about Turpin, Jonathan
Mingo maybe coming back.
Speaker 4 (41:10):
He may have his window open this week. We'll see
how that goes.
Speaker 6 (41:13):
But all that being said, do you think the receivers
are starting to find their rhythm in this offense?
Speaker 2 (41:16):
Yeah? For sure. And part of that is Dak being
being good. Thatk's always been a guy to elevate people.
You know, Randa Kyle when he was an old man,
was able to do well in this system. Guys like
Dalton Schultz will be much better here than he was
in other places. So yeah, that's that's how that that's
how Dak typically operates. If it was another quarterback throwing
the ball to floora Noyd turping and Tobert, who knows
what that even looks like, but you know, force the guy.
Speaker 5 (41:39):
Yeah, I think the fact and I don't want to
take any credit away from Tolbert h because I do
think he's a player that really does put in the work.
Speaker 7 (41:49):
And works hard.
Speaker 5 (41:51):
But the fact that we have seen him make some
of those really good plays and start to see him
kind of trending upwards, it makes me curious and excited
to see what Mingo could potentially do now with a
full healthy quarterback and with the solidify offense in the
(42:12):
sense that he I believe will have a specific role
and hopefully thrive in that because even what I saw
last year for Mingo, he had stuff that gets me excited,
but we haven't seen it come to fruition because it's
either being a bad throw or this and.
Speaker 7 (42:31):
That, and it just doesn't work.
Speaker 5 (42:33):
So I'm excited to see him get in corporated into.
Speaker 7 (42:36):
This receiver group. But I do like how.
Speaker 5 (42:40):
They're continuously progressing and the fact that Ceedee lamb him
being out last week, they were still able to be
a very working offense. It's something that in the past
we couldn't say that before.
Speaker 4 (42:53):
Well, I think here's my thing.
Speaker 6 (42:54):
I think all of this is a result of George Pickens,
and I shouldn't say all that a good part of
it is a result of George Pickens, because what it
did was it slid everybody down the depth chart by
one spot. I think you look at somebody like Jalen Tolbert.
Jalen Tolbert, I don't think was a great number two
(43:15):
last year. I think he's a really good number three, right.
I think Turpin you got to three A three b
between between him and Turpin Illinoy. I mean I'd be
a number three, but right now he could be a
number four that can get you one or two catches
in a game at a moment when you kind of
need it and they're trying to take away everybody else, right,
I think that's the beauty of a George Pickens being
(43:37):
in this offense.
Speaker 4 (43:38):
Is it just slid everybody down?
Speaker 12 (43:40):
Now?
Speaker 4 (43:40):
I do think for one week.
Speaker 6 (43:42):
For two weeks, maybe three weeks, you might be able
to get away with that.
Speaker 4 (43:46):
I don't think you.
Speaker 6 (43:46):
I don't know if this would be sustainable all season. Now,
if Dak he's playing like he's playing, maybe it is.
Because if Dak is playing out of his mind right now.
And I know you said earlier you don't like this
narrative that he's never played this well, but I'll tell
you this, Da' has some really great scene through these
games so far, outside of maybe the Chicago game, which
the results weren't what you wanted, But if you just
(44:07):
isolated his play through four games, Dak is playing better
than I've ever seen Dak play.
Speaker 4 (44:13):
Dak.
Speaker 6 (44:13):
Dak is knowing like he is. He's reading pre snap,
he's making adjustments, he's getting the ball out quick, he's
on target. How many times have we seen him this
year throw the ball into a covered guy, sometimes into
a double covered guy that is covered, and still make
the and put it in a place where only the
(44:33):
receiver can get it and he makes that catch like that,
to me is the difference. Dak is playing on another
level this year, in my opinion, than he's been before.
And that doesn't mean he hasn't had great years. He's
had some great years. This year to me is the
If he keeps playing like this and the Cowboys can
figure out their defense enough to where the Cowboys are
a playoff caliber team, I think he wins MVP. That's
(44:55):
the difference between this year and other years where he
may have been the runner up to the MVP. This
year he is playing a phenomenal level. So when you
do that, I think it does help all these receivers.
I don't know that these receivers are better than they've
been before. I think maybe they're using turpin a little
bit more than they have before. But I think a
lot of this comes down to Dak and the play
caller are just they're dialing it up right now and
(45:15):
I think that's really the big difference.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
Yeah, and this next two or three have a loan
weeks is important for all those guys because now they
got to separate themselves because when Lamb comes back, is
back to business. But there is going to be room
for Mingo and Tobert and Ryan Florda to kind of
fight for their life until you know, Lamb gets back,
and when that happens, one of them may not be
a part of this thing anymore. So they better take
(45:39):
the take these next few weeks with Dak to try
to build a little bit of report.
Speaker 6 (45:43):
But we also know the NFL, so you need those
guys because at some point this year you might have
another injury where you need those guys to step up.
So all these opportunities are great and it just helps
continue to develop this offense because the more weapons they got,
And I really am excited for somebody like George Mingo.
Speaker 4 (45:58):
I mean, I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (46:00):
Jonathan Mingo, because he is a guy that I think
has notoriously, notoriously throughout his career, has not had a
quarterback man with Dak play like he's playing. I want
to see Mingo because I think he can maybe do
some really good things for this team. All Right, we
appreciate you guys join us. We'll be back on tomorrow.
We'll dive into Cowboys versus Jets. We will isolate the
Jets offense versus Dallas depens a lot of things. If
(46:20):
you watched that game last night, there are some things
to be concerned about. I know the Jets are winless,
but there's certainly some things to be concerned about when
you talk about the Cowboys defense versus the Jets offense.
Speaker 4 (46:29):
We'll talk about all that tomorrow. Till then.
Speaker 6 (46:31):
For Bach, Lombardi and Ambergarcia, I'm Derek Eigelston. This has
been The Break live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com Radio.
Speaker 1 (46:38):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
