All right, today we talk Cowboys Big win versus Washington
(01:03):
Commanders forty four to twenty two, doubled them up and
it was a good day all the way around for
a lot of different players, a lot of different units.
We'll get into all of that. We'll start where we
normally start on a Monday. Go around the table, tell
me what you think the story of this game will
be when we look back years from now and think
about Week seven of the NFL season in twenty twenty five, botch.
Speaker 6 (01:24):
Man years from now, boy and Fluse was listening to us.
Man Flu has been watching the show. He's he's ready
to turn this out the game.
Speaker 7 (01:30):
And when he gave you that little shout like y'all,
I don't know the little sign he did, I thought
it was you right, it was for you right there.
Speaker 6 (01:35):
If we look back at this in years to come
and go, this was the game where we made all
the adjustments on defense and we weren't as bad as
we thought it was. Boy, we're gonna win some Emmys
when the Cowboys win that dag On Bowl. You hear me,
because the offense is what you think it is the offense?
Speaker 7 (01:50):
Are you talking championship?
Speaker 1 (01:52):
I'm a Homer and I always come out.
Speaker 6 (01:54):
You know, I'm not as I'm not as objective as
some of the other people at the at the table.
But how I feel, though, eagle to how I feel though,
might list some money on the thing.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
How I feel though.
Speaker 7 (02:07):
People so rich they make an airplanes their money around there.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
There and take tips.
Speaker 6 (02:11):
But I always thought that when Dak and the offense,
and these guys talk about the standard, the offensive standard,
it sounds like coach speak. It sounds like, oh, it's
just that what they're supposed to say. But the same
forty points that they put up on a weird team,
they put up on the Green Bay Packers team, and
they put them up on this team. So the offense
is gonna do what it's gonna do every single week.
So we look back at this thing and say that
(02:33):
these are the adjustments that sent the defense into a
middling defense right around the middle. Boy, we're gonna look
back at this and be like, what's fantastic championship year
we had?
Speaker 1 (02:43):
All right?
Speaker 3 (02:45):
See, I'm not ready to get a too delusional, but
definitely exciting win for sure. Sorry crazy a little bit, no,
but definitely an exciting win. I mean, obviously we're gonna
(03:07):
talk about everything that happened in the game here shortly,
but let me go back to the offense and gues.
This is something that we have continuously seen it throughout
the season so far. But the way that this offense,
the way that Dak has been playing and managing everything,
(03:29):
and just the beautiful balance between the passing game and
the running game it's just so impressive, and that just
makes me. Again, we've talked about it before. I just
hope it's not another wasted year. I hope that you're
right on the defense and the changes that we saw,
because again, it only takes the one play or two,
(03:49):
potentially three, but it's that close for you to continue
to win based on the way that your offense is playing,
based on the amount of points that they're being able
to score. Durn Bland he's back in shape. He's back
to one hundred percent, and more so than just that
pick six that he got, the way that he was playing,
(04:10):
and I had concerns. I'm like, Okay, well now without
Trevon Diggs in there, what does it look like? But man,
I just the pressure that they were creating and the
way that other players took advantage of that. I'm very proud.
I've always believed in this defense. I've I've had their
back the whole time.
Speaker 6 (04:30):
If you say that this defense continues to play this
way the entire year, and this offense continues to play
this way the entire year, what do you think the
hell come of this season will be?
Speaker 3 (04:38):
I'm giving you my ring size.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yeah, So, how can when I say it?
Speaker 6 (04:44):
How can when I say it, I'm the Lulu, I'm crazy,
Mui the losing out.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Brian? What's your point?
Speaker 1 (04:54):
How come about all these things? When I say it?
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Because that's you every week? Yeah, so because my foresight
got to be rational on this show.
Speaker 6 (05:02):
My foresight is correct. My please, Brian, Brian, you agree, Brian.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
I'm not getting in a fight with you on this one.
I'll tell you this, Okay. I didn't know if I
had to like step.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
In he brought his hunting gear to the show today.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
No, you know what, this defense got bullied last week.
They got bullied in the running game is what happened
to him last week. And you know with the Commanders
coming in, they were down there their receivers, so you
felt like though this is a team that even with receivers,
was able to run the football. That was kind of
their identity. Everybody talks about Cliff Kingsbury as a play caller,
(05:47):
and his identity is to he wants to run the football.
He does it with some creative ways of doing that too.
And if you look at overall, after what happened to
Dallas last week up front defensively, you have to say boy,
that was a big bounce back for them. After watching
that tape and kind of figuring out some things, I
was really worried, I should say I was very concerned,
(06:09):
I'll say, worried to about how the Commanders were going
to come in here and they were going to test you.
On the radio yesterday I called it. I called this
a game of stand up or get the hell out
of here. You know, that's the kind of attitude I
think the defense played with yesterday. They did a really
nice job with the front some of the run blit stuff.
(06:29):
The Fits were far better with that, you know, and
Crosskey Merrit is not an easy back to have to
deal with.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
You know.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
The Commanders had back some of their offensive linemen, their
full strength. Sam Cosmy was back in the lineup, and
they went after him yesterday. And in the run game,
he really didn't get second level. He didn't get any
down blocks that he normally gets. All the things that
you kind of seen the Commanders do very well running
the football. Dallas had an answer for that. You know,
the quarterback runs and stuff like that. Yeah, those those
(06:58):
things are going to happen like that. But when it
came down to having to handle this running back. They
did a really nice shot for it, and a tip
of the cap after how bad they played last week.
Speaker 7 (07:08):
Yeah, we will get back to that and we'll talk
extensively about that run defense in the second and third segments,
but I want to start with the offensive side of
the ball. Dak Prescott yesterday continues to have a marvelous season.
He's twenty one to thirty seventy percent completion rate, two
hundred and sixty four passing yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions,
which again very very proud of the fact that he
(07:30):
has zero interceptions, and then one hundred and thirty point
four rating. Speaking of which, after the game, Dak was asked,
what's more impressive to you the number of touchdowns you
have this year or the fact that you haven't thrown
an interception, and he said he thinks they go hand
in hand. But then he was like, you know, to
be honest with you, I didn't know how many touchdowns
I had. I do know I don't have an interception,
And he said, from that standpoint, I think that probably
(07:52):
answers the question as much as anything else. How much
do you guys put on that that Dak is It's
not like he's being very conservative because a lot of
times you get a quarterback that's so concerned about not
turning the ball over that they end up dinking and dunky,
they won't really take the shot. But he's throwing into
some tight windows making some throws.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
That throw.
Speaker 7 (08:11):
He threw the Pickings yesterday down the field, that one,
and they just put it on TV where he just
dropped it in the bucket. There was no separation between
him and the defender. It was just a perfect throw
and really great catch by Pickings. But talk about Dak
and him taking care of the ball while at the
same time remaining aggressive and taking what he sees his opportunities.
Speaker 6 (08:33):
Dak is very surgical. I would say, you know, it's interesting,
and I'm not gonna because people laugh when I do this,
But you know, you remember how a couple of years
ago were just saying, man, Brandon Cooks is known to
be a deep threat, how come he can't be a
deep threat here? Or like the same with turfing and
things like that. I just think that Dak is for whatever.
I don't know, maybe they called the plays different something
(08:55):
like that. But Dak had time to work on his
connection with Pickings, right so like it's really personnel too.
I think him and Lamb have always been here, but
I think, you know, we don't want city to be
heard at all. But that time away gave Dak a
little extra time with Pickings, and Dak understands, like, hey man,
even when you look coverage, you really not. So if
(09:15):
if anything, Dak understands, well, maybe I could just lead them,
lead the ball towards the sideline a little bit, and
Pickings can catch something that maybe somebody else can't catch,
maybe a five eleven receiver can't catch. And this is
just Dak understanding his weapons. You know, I think Dak
has played three games with the Cooper Lamb Gallop combination,
but for the most part, it's always been two of
(09:36):
those guys, Like he's never had all of those guys.
If you just look at by the by the twos,
like this duo, that duo, that duo, this might be
the best duo that he's ever had. So just him
being confident in himself, confident in his system, shot, he's
not getting in his way, and most confident in those
guys that he's throwing the football to. Why not why
not be more aggressive? Why not try things downfield and
he ain't missing.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Yeah, I think it's the system. And I think you
go back to what Brian Schottenheimer has been able to create,
UH as far as providing the right amount of comfort,
providing UH, you to trust the system the play calling,
because I think that once when when you truly buy
into something, when you truly believe something, you're gonna feel
(10:20):
that confidence and you're gonna go out there feel confident
and and know that, hey, this player is gonna be there.
I know I can trust that guy. I know I
can trust Pickens to be able to catch that ball.
He's gonna catch it more most often than not. And
it's just that relationship there. And you see also the
relationship between Pickens and CD and that wide receiver group.
(10:42):
It's contagious. So I think that just continues to build trust.
And and Dak he he's just trusting his receivers. He's
he's trusting his arm as well and making those choices.
He's there's no hesitation there as opposed to before you
see him kind of like, oh where am I gonna throw?
And then you see the big white eyes like kind
(11:03):
of panicking a little bit. No, now he's completely confident
and comfortable.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Dancing for a game.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
Yeah forty second Yeah, forty seconds left in the half
and you get the ball on your own twenty eight
and all of a sudden, you take a seven yard sack.
Most previous regimes would probably just let that thing run out. Ye,
your head coach called a timeout and then he launched
a bomb on the other side of the field the
very next play, and that got you right back into
(11:30):
where you needed to go. That's all you need to
know about what this play caller is doing, what this
head coach is doing. Yeah, I hate how sometimes he
uses timeouts. I loved how that timeout though, because you
would have probably, like I said, after that sack, you said, okay,
let's be fine, we'll go in the half. But no,
I mean, and the commander strove the ball on you
to get to that, you know, to get back in
this football game. You answered, right back before the half.
(11:54):
But the fact that he used to time out right
there to give Dak an opportunity and then Dak took
it vantage of it. Pickings took advantage of it, and
then the next playoff that you get the long run
from wins.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
We've seen two have the last three games, So.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
All of a sudden, now your coach still having an
aggressive mindset because he knows his quarterback finds ways to deliver.
Speaker 6 (12:13):
Let me ask everybody this, if y'all don't mind, and
we can ask people to chat. Also, do you think
that last week we as commentary people, right, do you
think that we made too big of a hubbub about
how the wide receiver room is going to work out? Like, hey,
how are they gonna get Floyd passed? You know of
turping pass? How they gonna get you know, October? How
there you gonna get all these all these guys involved?
(12:35):
And we just watching the game. Fantastic game by you know,
Dack or whatever, but it was really through CD. It
was through pickings and Ferguson got his twenty seven yards
and two touchdowns. Besides that, the rest of the guys
didn't really get involved too much. Is this us or
was that us just kind of overthinking how are they
gonna get somebody extra involved? When the real life shot
he's like, I'm just gonna get the ball to the
(12:56):
dogs and we just gonna win like that.
Speaker 7 (12:57):
Well, I think that I'll speak for myself. I never
really thought that they would it would be about opportunities
for them as much as it was just who's gonna
be the guys gonna have to sit is what I thought.
I didn't think you needed to have six receivers active, because,
as you just said, you got your dogs, right, you
got two guys that are as good as In my opinion,
(13:18):
this is the best wide receiving corps in the National
Football League right now. I have no problem saying that
it's the best, especially with the quarterback playing in the
way that he's playing. I don't think there's anybody that's
even close to him, because you would say the Eagles,
they're not getting the benefit of that right now. I
think they got really good receivers, it's just it's not
showing up. So I don't think it was ever about
(13:38):
the total the guys that were going to be getting
opportunities to catch passes as much it was gonna be
who's actually now going to have to sit down because
they don't need all these bodies. That was the harder
decision for me.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Yeah, I think for me is I know the guys
I want to I want them to be in there
all the time if possible. Obviously, you're gonna have too
good guys in and out, but Ferguson, Lamb, Pickins, Turpin,
I want him there. But then now you talk about okay,
the tober of the world and going back to him. Yeah,
(14:14):
and again when you're talking about wide receivers, not all
of them from top to bottom are going to have
a great day where they're getting the ball. That's just
not possible. But with Tolba the interesting part and I
thought he might be the one where maybe you kind
of pull him back, but then when you watch him
in place that the ball is not being thrown at him,
(14:37):
but you see what he's doing around that, you're like, Okay,
I understand, I understand why they're keeping him in the field.
And it's always it's the nature of as an expectator
and viewer. When you see floor now, flow float now,
you're throwing me off. I know how to say his name,
(14:58):
but flower Floydoi, you're brainwashing me to go follow. No,
he's not. But when you see someone like that have
such a good game, your head and your mind just
automatically goes into, well, crap, we gotta put him in.
How are you gonna put him back into the field?
(15:18):
Right now? You have no issues, You have no issues.
If anything, you know, you can trust that guy if
needed once again. But I'm so excited about the whole group.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
We made a big deal about it, we did.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
We made a big deal about it.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
We really did. You're not wrong. We made a big
deal about it. We were trying to figure out how
they were gonna dress six. You know, what were the
roles we'd be very we're being very mindful of. We're
talking about, well, what does Mango do if you bring
him back? What does Tolbert do? What does Flinoyd do?
Does this guy play special teams and all that? You know,
you can even throw Ferguson into this mix now, I mean,
you know they they they just the two wide receivers
(15:56):
and Ferguson and then everybody else, you know. But they've
they've kind of found way we saw with Turpin had
a nice catch along the along the boundary. They fake
the Jets sweep to him, they throw the ball to him.
He makes a guy. Miss Toldbert how to play down
the field. Yeah, we do. I mean they are they
have an idea how they want to play these guys.
And I'm just every now, every every Sunday or Monday
(16:18):
or Thursday, whenever we start playing these games. Whatever receivers
they decide to dress and for whatever reasons they decide,
I'm gonna trust them to do it because I'm not
gonna worry about it anymore. I thought, well, you know, hey,
you got to do this or you got to do this. No,
they have a plan for how they want to play
these guys, and I think the quarterback does a great
job of when they're open, he throws them the ball.
(16:40):
You know. Now, unfortunately, though, you have a couple of
these guys out there trying to block on the end
and then they get holding calls. You can't have those
kinds of things happen. But yeah, I admit I made
too big of a deal last week of the wide
receiver room.
Speaker 7 (16:52):
All right, let's take our first break when we come back.
Let's dive into this offensive line and Javonte Williams. Let's
talk about the run game where they found some excesses.
And also there's a little bit of concern at the
end of the game, I think with regards to the
number of hit said Dak had to take yesterday. We'll
talk about that when we come back. This Dallas Cowboys
dot Com Radio. How's it going.

Speaker 7 (19:27):
Welcome back. We're in the second segment of the Break,
live from the s WBC Mortgage studios. At the start
of the segment brought to you by blockchain dot Com.
All right, we're talking about the Cowboys forty four to
twenty two win over the Washington Commanders. They pull to
second place in the NFC East. I think two and
a half games. I get mixed up with these half games.
I think it's two and a half games behind the Eagles,
either two and a half or we I think it's
(19:48):
two and a half. They're two and a half games
behind the Eagles because that Eagles did get a win yesterday,
but they are in second place in the division. And
uh and we'll just see where it goes from here.
Let's talk about the running game. Let's talk about the
offensive line. Let's start first with the running game. Javonte
Williams nineteen carriage one hundred and sixteen yards a six
point one average a touchdown. Looks like they got the
(20:09):
running game back on target, James Blue got a little
time at the end of the game. Seven carriages of
twenty nine yards a four point one average. Where did
they find success in the run game? What did you
see in the run game that that they were able
to kind of take advantage of in order to get
their running game going.
Speaker 6 (20:25):
I think you're right guard being back made your right
tackle much much better. So that means you you just
have a whole side of your line that was much
better this week than it was in previous weeks, and
shouts out of the TJ Man. TJ did his he
did his time, and we asked him to do some
things and he did those those those things. But Duran
Payne like it wasn't just him whooping a rookie like
(20:46):
it was it was. It was some fighting in there.
And Booker did his thing. Booker helped helped Hoffman, and
the left side did their thing as well. Javonte saw
things a little better too this year. You know, you
know last week he just didn't see it all and
it could have been. You know, these emotional games, sometimes
you want to go out there and just run, just
run folk overall. I'm not gonna let Rico out rush
me or something. Sometimes you just you just run yourself
(21:07):
into nonsense. But uh, this game composed, you know, and
he saw it better and and he dragged some characters,
thirty y'alls down the field, so they helped as well.
Speaker 5 (21:16):
Yeah, it was a much better game as far as
there wasn't the penetrations that we'd seen last week. And
you know, physically they got beat up. We talked about
Dallas's run defense got beat up and there. But their
offensive line last week got a little beat up too,
with Brown and Robinson and Brown doing a number on
you right there, and you know, it can be difficult
to have to deal with pain. I think the injury
(21:38):
too with Dwort's Armstrong going out of that game pretty
early kind of helped the cowboy situation. But up front,
they did a much better job of winning the line
of scrimmage, the combo blocks, the single blocks that they
had to have. Guys were staying on their blocks. Some
of the stuff they tried to do. We mentioned the
outside running game that was gonna be keyness. You know,
they got the ball to the edge. It's unfortunate they
(22:00):
had a couple of holding calls where this thing might
have been even better, but it was from a from
an offensive line standpoint, it was much more well blocked
than it was last week. And that was because again
they were able to handle the power inside of I
think of this commander script, especially with Payne, uh, you know,
trying to keep the ball or keep him at bay.
(22:20):
It could be a difficult task and they and they
were they Booker in there, uh did a really nice
job him Hoffman, Uh, you know, you look at Tyresmith,
even even Geyton as well. You usually sometimes got will
struggle a little bit with that. But overall they were
really good up front with able to win and play
on the on the Commander's side of the line scrimmage.
Speaker 7 (22:40):
When you look at the offensive line and how they
played specifically in the in the passing game, they did
only allow one sack, yeah, but they gave up five
quarterback hits. What was Where was the pressure coming from?
Who was having the most problems yesterday? Obviously without Dorn's
Armstrong that was their best as as I think coming
to the game, probably guy you would say is their
(23:00):
best pass rusher. Where was the problem? Where were the
problems coming from on the offensive line when it came
to pressure.
Speaker 6 (23:06):
Came from I think one came from Pain, I believe. Yeah,
that was on Booker, book kind.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
Of Booker and missed him.
Speaker 6 (23:11):
Yeah, And I want to say that the other was
just kind of I don't know, did somebody just get beaf,
just just get be flat out.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
I don't, I don't, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
They had they they really they struggled over all though
with I could say, as as a line when you
looked at though the thing with Booker was a little
bit of an issue there you mentioned Pain was able
to they they got him on some some movement stuff.
It was a problem, yeah, with that and so but
Dak does a pretty good job when you know when
he drops back. The one, I could say, the one
(23:40):
that was really the clear one the sack was was unfortunate.
But the one, like I said, he's done a great
job of when there has been pressure and he's talking
about the Booker one, he he sets but he gets
gets swamped quickly, and so now he's kind of in
a bad spot. But the movement up front continues to
be a little bit of a problem for these guys.
(24:01):
And you know, hopefully because say you got Hoffman, I
mean he's a veteran guy now, and you know, but
just passing all that stuff off has been a little
bit of a problem there for the for the team.
But man, that throw that he makes, he makes the
throat to the outside to Pickens on the out for
about ten yards and he's literally gotten pain. Is he's
wearing pain as he's throwing that football. So yeah, across
(24:25):
the board, this group is always going to struggle with that.
They're always going to give up one or two pressures sometimes.
We mentioned what happens with like a guid and Bobby
Belt and I were talking about this last night when
we're when when of the pressures happened. Geyton tends to
because he's not you know, he sometimes he doesn't see
himself as a strong guy, and so he'll lean and
when he leans, then you get forward. And now these
(24:48):
guys get around him like the Frankie Luvus and people
like that. So he's got to be a little bit
more conscious of like setting being more patient and then
not allowing those things to happen.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
I think, you know, I'm so appreciative of what the
coaching staff has been able to do with this group
of guys because I still remember very well the times
in the years where you get one guy that comes
out and all of a sudden, the whole line is
unable to protect Dak consistently. So when you mentioned that, obviously, yeah,
(25:24):
you don't want ideally you want zero quarterback pressures. But
at the same time, when you know what the past
has been and you look at the way they've been
able to protect Dak this year with all the in
and out, like the guys that have come out because
of injury and then come back in all the shuffling
around a little bit, I think it's impressive. And I'm
(25:47):
so excited to see what the future holds for this
group of guys once they're able to stay all together
consistently and healthy, and all these younger guys too, to
see what the future holds for them because the way
and we talked about Tyler Booker the other day, I
can't wait. I can't wait to see him like year two,
(26:08):
and I can't wait all these guys to kind of
have a full year under the belt of them being
all together. This is gonna be a very dominant line
for years to come for the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 7 (26:19):
All Right, We're gonna go ahead and take our final break.

Welcome back.
Speaker 7 (29:09):
We are in the final segment of the break Life
in that s WBC Mortgage Studios at the Star, Let's
talk about the defensive side of the ball. Yesterday to
Corey Krosskey Merritt Bill as they call him, in the
first half nine for twenty eight yards three point one average.
For the game, he was thirty thirteen carries for thirty
three yards with a two point five air average. Defense
(29:30):
did its job yesterday against the run. My question for
you guys is what was the difference in the rush
defense yesterday? And is whatever they did yesterday sustainable as
you go forward into the season.
Speaker 6 (29:42):
They were sounding their gaps. Yeah, they were simply gap sound,
and they didn't get pushed all over the place. I
think that's a big part of you can really chalk
a lot of this up to They played much better
individually than they did last week. You know, Clark didn't
get pushed around, Olsa didn't get pushed around.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Your edges contained ain't really well.
Speaker 6 (30:00):
I mean, it was just it was just one on ones.
You know, they just went up front last week. It
just an abomination. I mean, this is a much better
offensive line than it was last week. I just don't
understand how how how Carolina you know, did what they
did to you. But as far as this week, it
just seems like they just locked it up in practice.
And maybe they had a physical week in practice, but
they just didn't lose the one on ones up front.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
Yeah, you get some nine men in the box bits
this week, you know, and and and you know it's
like okay, fine, you know we're gonna lock up on
the outside of man. We don't think that, you know,
we don't think that McCaffrey can win against you. We
don't think you know, there was they clearly, they clearly,
But going into this game, I say, clearly they played
a lot more man coverage, and Shotty even gave you
(30:43):
a little bit of hint in the post game about it.
He said, you know, he was talking about, Hey, it
dictated that's what she's gonna do. And we've talked about
this when we broke this thing down for you on Wednesday,
we were talking about this guy against man coverage as
like a fifty percent passer against Sowne.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
He's almost seven.
Speaker 5 (31:01):
So that dictated that, hey, we need to think about okay,
minus some receivers. Great, you know this guy was still
a fifty percent passer with all the receivers there.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
I mean, that's that that.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
That's what it. That's what it told you. So for
them to play more man coverage, it doesn't surprise me.
You know, when you look at analytics, that doesn't you know,
how they played it. You know, how they played the
run I thought was really good. They had some run
blitzes and a couple of times there. You know, when
Dallas is bad in run defense, we talk about fits.
You know, all of a sudden, why Sam Williams flying
down inside and nobody's on the outside, you know, taking
(31:34):
taking that. You know, you look at one of the
one of the early runs in this game, though, Sam
Williams coming down inside. It looks like Sam Williams was
kind of on his own. Everybody else was slanting the
other way. Maybe Sam went the wrong way all of
a sudden, rresleaf Ol. He has to play two gaps.
The linebacker inside has to play two gaps, and there's
that that hole. But they were much better when it
(31:55):
came to attacking, whether it was James attacking, you know,
Murray attacking, they did a much better job. It was
a great game here. I am very very critical of
our guy from South Carolina, Clowney. Yeah, and I'm so.
I'm sitting there just amazing how you forget a name Clowney.
That's all right, but it it just pops out of
(32:17):
your head. But Clowney, much better game for him, you know,
much better game of him, like chasing down from the backside,
much better job of him when ball at him or
him having to do the run stunts and things like that.
Much better active game of him. And that's really what
it came down to. You got guys like Solomon Thomas.
Solomon Thomas the way he wins quickly and then now
he's in the backfield and then the back has to
(32:40):
make a decision like Okay, the back tries to run away,
but then it runs right into where there's other guys.
So they did a better job of getting off blocks,
playing their fits, and then tackling when they needed.
Speaker 7 (32:52):
To real quick before you go amb Salomon Thomas, actually
you mentioned him. He reminded me this week a lot
of what we saw last week from Carolina, Like he
was just punching through the offensive line and it just
creates chaos, like it creates bad situations because the running
back now is like where I'm going, there's indecision and
then allows other guys to get there. And I was like,
that's what they I think have been missing a lot
(33:12):
in their running game because typically what we've been seeing
these last few weeks is they get on those defensive tackles,
they're moving them around because usually they're double team at
least the three tech right, and then what happens is
now you've got a clear shot to go get the linebacker.
The linebacker has no shot against an offensive lineman in
a lot of those situations, and it just creates these
huge gaps. And I think yesterday that penetration really made
(33:33):
a difference on several players.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
Sam Cosby was poor his first game back, and we
all know what Tyler biadischis is a second level blocker.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (33:41):
It doesn't always happen.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (33:42):
Took advantage of that.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
I was gonna say, wotch you mentioned how the players.
There's a dance video that went out on social media
and you see Dak and Milton and everybody pickings dancing
around and all that. Well, the same thing is happening
with the defense. And I'll say this, I don't have
(34:04):
anything against these guys. Is if anything, I love the
group of guys that we currently have. But if I'm
being one hundred percent honest, when I'm standing there on
the sideline watching after especially after last week's performance, and
I see someone even doing a dance move or even
a smile, I'm like, Whyrey's smiling? In my head, you know,
I'm like what what what are you doing?
Speaker 9 (34:25):
Like?
Speaker 3 (34:25):
What are we doing here. Mind your business. Okay, I
don't tell you how to think. Okay, this is this
is what goes through my head when you're bothered by
a certain performance. My point with this is I saw
the defense acting that way with high energy before the
(34:45):
game started, during warm ups, and that just it goes
to show. I mean, what shot a Himer because again
he's the lead of the group out there, but even
Matt Eberflus the way that they've been able to maintain
the energy high, because right now, morale could be very
very low for these group of guys who were Now
(35:07):
you're seeing that reflecting on the plays. I mean, there's
no way after last week to be you know, it
could have easily go downhill very quickly after last week.
So credit to the coaches to be able to create
that environment for these players to continue to have that
energy high, that high to go into the game, start
(35:29):
the game at a high energy level and continue to
fight and play. And it was I think we saw it.
We saw it in the game.
Speaker 5 (35:38):
As a room, I don't know, I don't know how
you could sit in that locker room on the defensive side,
that locker room and look across those offensive players and
think that, like, what are we doing on our side
of the ball. Yeah, we cannot. I mean even you know,
even you know Clark, Kenny Clark said it last night. Hey,
right off the jump, he says, Hey, we got an offense.
We've got to find ways to get stops. We've got
to find ways to get off the field. We got
(35:59):
to find used to get them the ball back. Or
to a man, the defense is talking about the offense,
you know, it's the front office and the coaches they
are talking about the defense, you know. But I don't
know how you could sit in that and not say, hey,
we've got to pull our weight. We've got something very
potentially special on that side of the locker room. We
(36:19):
need to figure out things on our side and get
this thing back on track.
Speaker 7 (36:24):
Yep. One of the things that I noticed yesterday, I
think we all noticed was defensively in the secondary, they
did change up personnel a little bit. Maybe they changed
up a little bit from a standpoint of Manzon, I'll
ask you guys about that, But what do you think
about the idea of bringing your queasy bridges in, putting
them on the outside, playing bland More in the slot
with Kyrie elam there knowing that. Again, we didn't have
(36:46):
a chance to talk about it because it all broke
late on Friday, but they were going to be without
Treyvon Diggs for this game. Because of that, we did
talk about that popped up during the show actually, but
without him, Yeah, without him, they were still able to
kind of do some different things in the secondary. What
do you think of the changes that they made there
and schematically what they did or did not do in
(37:08):
this game versus other games.
Speaker 6 (37:09):
I think if they're going into this game and saying
that they're going to play more Man, and let's just
be clear on what more man means. If last week
it was like nine percent, I believe this week it
was like fifty.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
It's probably forty seven point year it was a lot, yeah,
by half and half.
Speaker 6 (37:23):
So if if I had to guess, the coaches are saying,
if it's in a game plan to play more Man,
and you know, Shoddy was alluding to the idea that
we're playing man because that's what you know, Washington is
bad and so that's why we're playing Man. I would
assume that they felt like Weezy gives them a better
opportunity than Ready would you know, Ready's like a zone
guy tackles well all this kind.
Speaker 7 (37:45):
Of and just to be clear, Ready in the slot
in the slot versus we leave outside.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (37:49):
So if their mindset was okay, and then Trey is
going now so our best man guys are Weezy blayding Elam,
then the best combination to run those guys out there
is to put bland at at Nickel and Wheezy be
the outside guy.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
So what do you do when Trevon comes back?
Speaker 6 (38:08):
Let me tell you what Derek Eagleton's talking in this
short amount of time on my on my personal YouTube channel,
Vashe Lombardy.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
I could be very irresponsible. I could be vege like
I can say.
Speaker 6 (38:21):
I can say, I can say some irresponsible ish sometimes.
But what I've learned from Derek and he's never like
reprimanded me or nothing like that. But I just see
how he moves, and Derek will be like, well, I
just want to be fair and not say nothing because
I don't know for sure. So I don't want to
say nothing because I don't know if Diggs is in trouble.
I don't know if he's not. I don't know if
Diggs is hurt for real, I don't remember I'm going on,
(38:44):
So I just want to wait until I get more
information before I make a statement about and what happens
with ILL make a statement here.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
Damn he turned his head when I don't make a statement.
Speaker 5 (38:57):
A statement though. They need Digs to play.
Speaker 1 (38:59):
That's they really really do you really need him to
be like that? Absolutely?
Speaker 5 (39:04):
I mean, I'm hopeful that Dig's sitting down of this game,
and you know, unfortunately he'll have an opportunity to stand
up in front of the media and give his side
the story and we'll all, you know, take note of
it and all that. But but they honestly need him
to play. You saw what, you know, he I hope
that he sat there and watched that game yesterday and
saw blant'ce pick six and Wheezy and all those guys
(39:24):
and I and elam Cover. You know, I hope he
saw that. I hope he saw, uh, you know, Donovan
Wilson put on an elbow brace, you know, after you know,
big brace, after he got hurt. Yeah, I hope he
sees that, you know, I hope he wants to be
a part of that. You know, I don't know if
he does or doesn't but I'll tell you this though
the guy has talent.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
He has talent, and he could cover.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
And when he's locked in and ready to play, he's
he he can do the job. They're gonna need him.
We were talking about trading and getting rid of him now.
If the front officers ready to move on, that's their deal.
But as long as he's here, man, they need him
to play and they need him to figure it out.
And hopefully he saw that yesterday and wants to be
(40:09):
a part of that.
Speaker 7 (40:10):
Yeah, I will say less. Yesterday after the game, Jerry
was asked about it and he said, look, it was
an accident. I accept that it was an accident and
we will move forward whenever he's back. And I think
it's to your point, Brian, I think this front office
knows that they are better with Trayvon Diggs than they
are without Trayvon Diggs. So whatever, I have no idea
what the circumstances were behind that. At the end of
(40:31):
the day, they are a better team when Trayvon Diggs
is on the field than not, and I think this season,
I think it is it behooves them to get him
in the fold, get him healthy, and say get out there.
And I think you get him out there with Deron Bland,
and if Deron Bland can do the things that we've
seen him do in the past, and if Trayvon can
(40:52):
do the things they've seen him do in the past,
and if the defensive coordinator can put them in situations
where they can do what they've done in the past,
I think this defense can again just be okay, just
be good enough to not waste what the offense is doing.
Speaker 5 (41:06):
Yeah, situation where Bland was playing down in the box
and mentioned some of those nine man box things. They
have Bland down there playing and Bland's down there trying.
Speaker 4 (41:14):
To tackle, and he's tackling well, And that's that.
Speaker 5 (41:16):
That's the whole idea right there. You need all eleven
playing that way, and and Digs gives you a chance.
You have to find a way. You know, he he
has to come to it or you have to go
get him. But you're gonna need him down this stretch.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
You know. It's crazy that we have yet to see
Digs and Bland have like actual good a good amount
of time of them playing together on the field where
they're both fully healthy, Like it's been how many years.
I feel like it's been three years.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
Since wait, maybe year five a m.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
The point is it's been a long time, like of
us waiting around to see that.
Speaker 7 (41:59):
That's what always like, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (42:00):
Yeah, yeah, the foot of the need. It's been it's
been a struggle.
Speaker 6 (42:04):
I think there's a lot of people down on him
right now, and I'm one of them. I ain't gonna
say it on the break, but I think I think
Tray could just shut everybody up if we take this
opportunity where we're playing a lot more man and it
may not be half the time, you know, next game,
it may be thirty percent man this time. If he
goes out there and chuts down Courtland sudden catches a
(42:25):
pick and this offense can go out there and do
what they do and this defense holds the Broncos in
nineteen points or something like that, then we'll leave Digs alone.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
Here's a week by week think we could, we could,
we could not wrong.
Speaker 14 (42:36):
We can fuss all we want, all we want, not wrong,
You're not, because I'm definitely gonna do it on my
show on the break. But if he goes out there
and he takes care of business, no, right, right.
Speaker 6 (42:47):
And the and the Cowboys get another tough win on
the road. I ain't gonna say this.
Speaker 5 (42:51):
I feel like I'm asking him right now.
Speaker 1 (42:53):
Please.
Speaker 4 (42:53):
I feel like I'm.
Speaker 1 (42:54):
Please grow up. Please don't whatever happen to you.
Speaker 4 (42:57):
I think they need him to play.
Speaker 1 (42:59):
I do.
Speaker 5 (42:59):
I think I think that he has got that kind
of talent to help this defense. If he's locked in
and committed, and they're locked into trying to help him
get better and put him in put him in positions
they want to play more man with him and try
that by all means, go for it.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
Your team needs you.
Speaker 6 (43:14):
So whatever you was doing, boxing, skateboarding, bungee jumping, it's
the regular season. This is very just fell out of
the bed, fell out of bed, whatever. There's a lot
more responsible than me. But the team needs a player.
Speaker 7 (43:27):
So if you don't mind, they will definitely need him
this weekend. That that Denver team, and we'll get into
this on Wednesday, but that Denver team yesterday put up
thirty three points in the fourth quarter. They had a
bad game and still came away with thirty three points
in the fourth quarter to win that game in Denver.
Dallas will be traveling to Denver. They will need their
defense to play well. They will need their defense to
(43:50):
play well in order to win this game.
Speaker 1 (43:52):
I was boring.
Speaker 7 (43:53):
I was like three lough, It's going to be one
of those days.
Speaker 4 (43:56):
All right, we' appreciate you guys.
Speaker 7 (43:57):
Jumps' be back tomorrow. We're going to have a Brian
will go on inside the brain of Brian, brought us,
ask some questions for.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
Us, and now going to be here tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (44:04):
I will not be here tomorrow, but is gonna hold
it down.
Speaker 1 (44:06):
I think you'll be good to her.
Speaker 3 (44:09):
Sorry to good, yeah them, Sorry to break it to you.
Speaker 6 (44:12):
Ambar is about to chill at forty five minutes while
me and Brian ramble, and we're gonna stop at forty five.
Speaker 7 (44:21):
That's what I'll be back on Wednesday. So till then,
for watch long body brought us an abraguard. See I'm
Derek Eglon. This has been The Break live on Dallas
Cowboys dot Com Radio.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
