Speaker 1 (00:03):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Cowboys Let's go.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Are you ready for a break?

Speaker 4 (00:17):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Are you ready for a break?

Speaker 5 (00:19):
Absolutely?

Speaker 4 (00:20):
Ready for a break?

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Yeah, and so much for that.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
It's time for The Break on Dallas Cowboys dot Com
right with mbar Garcia, Brian brought us, Votch Lombardi and
Derek Eagleton.

Speaker 6 (00:39):
Hello, guys, welcome back to another episode of The Break.
We are live at SWBC Studio. This show is presented.

Speaker 7 (00:48):
By lg oled Ego and.

Speaker 6 (00:51):
Derek will be joining us here in a little bit,
so let's get the show started.

Speaker 7 (00:56):
Guys, all ready for this?

Speaker 4 (00:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (00:59):
All right?

Speaker 7 (00:59):
I have a Q for you guys.

Speaker 6 (01:02):
I run into Nick Inman as we were coming to
the podcast and he was getting out of his I
don't know if it was a question on his show
or what, but we started getting into this argument or
conversation I should say, about whether or not fans would
be cheering when they show Micah Parsons on the big screen.
So I wanted to get your thoughts go. We had

(01:23):
a difference in opinion, So what.

Speaker 7 (01:26):
Are your thoughts?

Speaker 6 (01:27):
Are you guys expecting that when they show Micah coming
out there on the field on the big screen. What
are what's going to be fans reaction? Cowboys fans goes.

Speaker 8 (01:37):
I'll have to say, you're gonna have probably thirty Fortyen
Bay fans in the stadium. Yeah, so of course that's
going to be the cheer. And can the cowboy fans
drown out or can they cheer along with Packer fans.
I'm split on this one, I really am. I I
kind of feel like that they're going to I feel
like they're going to give him a cheer. That would

(01:58):
be my guess.

Speaker 9 (02:00):
I think they're gonna boo Michael. I think the breakup
was ugly. I think the long drawn out nature of it.
You know, there's pictures floating around him, laying on the
trainer's table and all this kind of stuff, and you know, uh,
Michael said that being a cowboy was most important. If
being a cowboy was most important, you would you would
talk to your agent that works for you. You'll find

(02:20):
a way to be a cowboy. But you demanded the
trade means you don't want to be here. But most importantly,
I think this is the biggest part here is Michael
hadn't been here for a long time, like Michaeh hadn't
set records here. Michaeh didn't win playoff games here. At
least Tank Lawrence got back to back sacks when the
playoff game, right Michael Parson, who guess who did the

(02:41):
playoff game with him playing? I'm asking, did Michael win it?
That's that's Tank Lawrence. Tank Tank got a sack and
a fumble and he didn't get the fumble. Then he
got a sack right after that.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
If any I think DA's would to playoff games, they went.

Speaker 9 (02:53):
It Tampa when when Michael That may have been Michael's
rookie or something.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
But but what I'm.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Saying, so maybe you're right, maybe he shouldn't have it.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
For the Cowboys. I don't. I don't.

Speaker 9 (03:08):
I don't think Micah has enough more to be beloved
in that way.

Speaker 6 (03:12):
I feel like you'll get more like obviously they're gonna
be fans booing, But at the same time, I feel
like there there will be a big crowd cheering for
him when he shows up on screen.

Speaker 8 (03:22):
But we'll see, you know, the way that Botch put
it though he's not wrong about this, but he's not
and this is I think if to me, if there
was somebody who's gonna get booed, it's probably the general
manager would get booed. I think people blame the general
manager for what happened on this one. I think Cowboy fans,
even though you're saying what you're saying, I think that

(03:45):
the general manager like, Okay, well then why didn't you
get him done earlier?

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Why did why did this have to go through all this?

Speaker 8 (03:52):
I think I think fans blame Jerry for that, Like
this should never have gotten to where the point where
all the things you say that are absolutely right. Mike
acted like, hey, I'm laying I'm gonna lay out here.
I don't care. I'm on the training table. I you know,
I don't want to be I don't want to be here.
You could trade me and all that. I I think
there's some Cowboy fans that are absolutely you're right, and

(04:13):
but I also think there's a lot of cowboy fans
that are probably looking to the situation saying.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
Damn, general manager should have got this one done a
long time ago. We shouldn't be in this place.

Speaker 9 (04:22):
Brian Brandon Ambar, you have ever seen the boxing matches over
the UFC fighters with a pan in the crowd to
see a famous person. Then they'll paying to another famous person.
They'll be the other guy if they pay to michaeh. Yeah,
I think personally they'll they'll get boozed.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (04:36):
I think Cowboy fans love Sean Lee more than Michael Parsons.
I think somebody like that. Oh I I think Jason
wouldn't probably get more loved than Michael Parton.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
You, I don't think you're wrong. I don't think you're wrong.

Speaker 8 (04:47):
I think that I think this is one I think
there's some fans Like I said.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
That, I think time invested matters.

Speaker 8 (04:52):
Yeah, yeah, he was you know, yeah here for you know,
he was here for a short time and you know,
but I think I don't know if people are I
think the way it ended was not good for both parties.
But I kind of feel like that the fan base
is really against Jerry.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Jones on this one.

Speaker 9 (05:11):
People in the comment is mad right now that we're
even saying his name. So I don't think it's gonna
go ga.

Speaker 6 (05:16):
Oh well, let them be mad. I mean, there are
both types of people, I think, and I think it's
just like when you see the struggles that you're currently
having in with the rushing the passer.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
He's calling out the comments. Did you check the comments?

Speaker 3 (05:31):
I read him on I read every single comment.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Oh no, I thought you were saying right now.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Oh I look right now, and I bet you, I
bet you.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Okay, I would I would be interested to see where
we're at.

Speaker 6 (05:38):
We know the reality he's no longer with a team,
but we are facing him this weekend at a tenth
stadium that we will be talking in the second segment
about the Green Bay defense and we'll get into Micah
Parsons and how the Cowboys can try to stop him.

Speaker 9 (05:56):
Brian shot Micah.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Is Jerry's fault.

Speaker 8 (06:03):
People got there's a split splites the goat for real?

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Okay, Okay, okay, that's what he's saying. I'm just reading.

Speaker 6 (06:14):
All right. Well, as we move on and before we
jump back into Micah Parsons the second segment, I wanted
to talk to you guys about the opposite side. I
know we talked about the defense yesterday for the Cowboys,
but Kenny, I mean, he has been a popular guy
this week, obviously facing his previous team, But wanted to

(06:39):
ask you does his knowledge from his time at Green
Bay help the Cowboys. Is he able to help in
any way share some intel information here as the Cowboys
offense prepares to play against his old defense.

Speaker 9 (06:57):
I think the the Packers are going through a lot
of change on the offense right now. They got wide
receivers that are heard, They got offensive lineman moving in
and out of the rotation there. So I wouldn't really
count on inside or information or anything like that. Most
of the time him playing defense, he's not really tapped
into what the other side is doing and that's who
he's going against, right But if we're just talking about

(07:18):
Packers defense, I think they're pretty much I don't think
there's a lot of there's a lot of you know,
mix up Brian bros. I think they're a cover two team.
They're gonna play a whole bunch of his own some
man sometimes and I think that they're trying to make
you throw the ball so that they can rush you at.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
The end of the game.

Speaker 8 (07:32):
Yeah, you know, I think to me, where you maybe
could help. And we're talking about Kenny Clark here, right,
is that?

Speaker 6 (07:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Yeah, Yeah.

Speaker 8 (07:38):
The thing with Kenny that I think that he could help,
Maybe he could help with his.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Own teammates in his own room with the you know,
and Dallas has.

Speaker 8 (07:48):
Struggled rushing the passer. I mean, it has been just
it's been horrible.

Speaker 4 (07:54):
And maybe where.

Speaker 8 (07:54):
Kenny Clark can help is he has in training camp
and he has worked against these guys and he's seeing, hey,
this is how you break these guys down a little
bit and stuff.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
He can maybe help his edges.

Speaker 8 (08:08):
Maybe he helps some his defensive tackle guys to be
able to say, listen, hey, you get this guy, take
him up field and then work back underneath as fast
as you can because he can't power step on you.
Or hey, guy's hands are really really slow. You can
see things on film of you know, guys getting broken down.
Any advantage that they can get in this game will

(08:29):
be key because you know, watch and I were talking
about yesterday, it's gonna be about what kind of pressure
can you get on on Love? How can you affect him?
If you pressure tends to make him throw the ball
a little wild.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
Dallas has got to find a way to do that.

Speaker 8 (08:42):
And if Kenny Clark can tell, you know, tell Clowney
or any one of these guys, Donovan Zarako, hey break
him down.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
This way. Those are the things that's that's the biggest
way I think he can help, uh help help this
football team right now.

Speaker 6 (08:58):
And Clowney talking to the media, I mean, he's saying
he was ready last week to go in and play,
and he's expected to obviously be on the field this
week against Green Bay Packers and see what kind of
help he can bring into something different. We're gonna go
ahead and take away early break because there's a lot

(09:19):
to talk about the Green Bay Packers defense. Brian is
wearing the Super Bowl ring today. He decided to bring
out the shine and then look at all the diamonds
I was.

Speaker 8 (09:29):
I was on Milwaukee radio today and I wanted to
remind them and I was a winner one time in
my life. When they start talking about the Cowboys, I
wanted to remind him I was a winner one.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
Time in my life.

Speaker 7 (09:37):
There you go, Well, let's take an earlier break. We'll
come back.

Speaker 6 (09:41):
There's a lot to talk about because, as Brian Schottenheimer
said it in his press conference, this defense is not
just about Micah Parsons. They do have other guys on
there as well that the Cowboys need to look out for.

Speaker 7 (09:53):
Let's talk about that after the break.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
But you don't.

Speaker 9 (12:47):
But but you had to go through the thickest media
guy to find out that Michael was in that game.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Out the Sky and I think about that game.

Speaker 9 (12:55):
When I think about that game, I think boy Dak
press Gott drove off down the field on Tampa and
said Tom Brady out here, retire you don't think about Michael.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
Parts in that game guy the day.

Speaker 9 (13:05):
Micah does not have enough cowboy lore for cowboy fans
to care that much.

Speaker 6 (13:10):
God, I don't under the hate segment segment here.

Speaker 7 (13:17):
Because like, watch, okay.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Is this that the way?

Speaker 15 (13:20):
Please?

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Can I get block the way?

Speaker 4 (13:21):
First?

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Go aheadak blockchain thing?

Speaker 4 (13:24):
Thank you?

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Go ahead?

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Everybody today is that.

Speaker 7 (13:27):
We're doing pronounce it right here completely.

Speaker 9 (13:30):
The second segment here of the break is presenting you
by blockchain dot com dot com Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Download that, don't knowbot who's dot com? Ahead? Please what
you say?

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Down?

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Down download black chain that please go ahead.

Speaker 7 (13:43):
I was gonna say thank you, Chris.

Speaker 16 (13:45):
Chris, stop with the beeping when we're doing, because that's
what he's doing.

Speaker 7 (13:49):
No, No, I'm not please, I'm not hating on if
you were in that position.

Speaker 6 (13:56):
I just don't understand the Micah hate turn a extent
if you were him in his position looking for some money.
Look into this and people want to talk about, oh,
you thought you say you wanted to be loyal. You're
loyal to the Cowboys and you say you wanted to
be playing here. Either way, if that was you, you're
gonna try to get the most money that you possibly

(14:17):
can from wherever. So forget about being loyal and being
team friendly and blah blah blah blah blah when it
comes to money, because the reality is the reality. If
that was you, you would be doing the same exact thing.
You never know when you're gonna get hurt and when
is gonna be your last game.

Speaker 9 (14:32):
Perfect, then don't tell media that the most important thing
here was being a being a cowboy.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
That's not the most important thing that can be true
of once.

Speaker 9 (14:42):
If money is more important to you, then you go
to whoever got the most money for you. If you
want to be a Dallas cowboy.

Speaker 7 (14:49):
Shaking your head, if you agree with if you want.

Speaker 9 (14:51):
If you want to be a Dallas cowboy, you can
make concessions to be a Dallas cowboy. A couple years ago,
Tank Lawrence and I keep saying his name, Tank Lawrence
took less money because he wanted to be a cowboy.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
Micha and said he take thirty five.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
If you don't like, I can say he'll take thirty five.

Speaker 9 (15:04):
So look, so look either way. Even when Michael first
said that, I knew it was a lion nobody. You
always want that highest dollar amount as you should, as
you should love would.

Speaker 6 (15:15):
You say no, I just care about the money on
the on camera, like seriously, what we do?

Speaker 16 (15:20):
What I what I would say on camera is hey,
I'd like to be in Dallas. But at the same time,
I owe my value, and so that means value whoever's
gonna whoever's gonna give me the most to what the
value that I bring, they ultimately would have my services.
I think that's a fair thing to say, and I
believe it, like I think by the way we all
do that.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
This is not particular to Micah.

Speaker 16 (15:41):
We all are looking for the best way to advance
us and our families from a financial standpoint, like we
all do it right, So I think that is a
fair thing for him to say. But when he goes
on the record.

Speaker 7 (15:50):
Say something like that when we're training camp.

Speaker 16 (15:52):
Well, but when he goes on record earlier saying I'm
not looking to be the highest paid defensive player in
the league, I'm not looking to make the most money.
I will take thirty five million dollars, like when he
says those things, now there's an expectation from fans that, Okay, well,
money won't be a part of this problem. It won't
be the problem. It won't be the hold up big problem.
And it was the problem. It was a part of
the problem. And so I think, Look, I'm not killing

(16:14):
Michael for it my thoughts on Mike up. No, I'm
not because I actually think that I actually think he
did what he should have done from the standard point
of if I always.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
How about demand the trade? Should he have demanded that.

Speaker 16 (16:26):
Here's the deal if you want to be here. There
are a lot of players out there. There are a
lot of players out there that don't have leverage in negotiations.
The only leverage Michael really had was to say trade me.
That was his only real leverage because the Cowboys could
have owned his rights for another three years, so he
really didn't have any leverage.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
That was what the leverage he had. He played it
and it ended up working out.

Speaker 8 (16:46):
I think the leverage he played was going to get
a second medical opinion. I think that was the leverage
he played because all of a sudden he showed the
front office that I'm going to take your money and
I might not play for it.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
And I think that was big.

Speaker 9 (17:00):
Be clear, Ambar, just to just to be clear, you're
not wrong talking Saints can call me tomorrow and be like,
hey man, I'll triple it, double it.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
I'm leaving closer to home for you.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
So you'll just be out just like that.

Speaker 9 (17:12):
Yeah yeah, if they gonna quadrup.

Speaker 8 (17:18):
Might hold you up on that, you better watch out show.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
I'm in New Orleans tomorrow, me and daven helmire but dancing.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
Around with it.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
I've been the same fan. My whole life is what
I tell them.

Speaker 9 (17:29):
But you know, you know, what you say to the
public matters, and what I think it was. I think
Micah got caught up trying to be a leader too much.
Michaeh got got caught up in that leader and say,
hey man, I want to be here. I want to man,
Look look that played and he got his money. I
want up tying be like that. I wanna be just
like that. I'm gonna be a leader and I'm gonna
give the team pet cuts and we're gonna go sign
some more guys because I want to win a championship

(17:50):
here and now.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
And fans heard that.

Speaker 9 (17:52):
Now for you to just be like, not only do
I want thirty five, but I want what eight million
more or something like that? Man, please shout out of
Michael I'm at the TV.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Screw.

Speaker 6 (18:02):
I mean, well, you know, I'm not trying to spend
the Mica.

Speaker 7 (18:07):
There are a lot of things that is not.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
That work, is not that don't work.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Let's be clear.

Speaker 16 (18:13):
But honest I think when it comes to fans and
I don't I'm being this is a little dangerous to speak.

Speaker 6 (18:19):
So that was his first contract negotiation. I'm just saying,
like some things that you haven't done in life before.
It's your first time you live and learn type of
that's vocal vocal in the right way, or know how
to say things or whatever.

Speaker 9 (18:36):
I've never been arrested before. But I'm letting my lawyer talk.
But I'm gonna talk to my lawyer and tell him
the gist and he's gonna make it pretty and do
all the extra stuff. Michael can be like Heyo, David Mulah,
get because that exactly what he's what he's doing. He's getting,
Hey man, I want to be a cowboy. Get the
most from him. But let's just stay here like he
could do that if you want to, but he didn't,
bay Man.

Speaker 16 (18:56):
But you know, and honestly, I'll say this, I do
think that if there is booing this week, It won't
be because Michael ultimately left. To me, it will be
because of some of the things that Michael said since
he's left that are kind of these little things that
might not sit as well with fans. When he says,
y'all got to Green Bay and these fans are one
of one. When he says, hey, facilities is one of one, like,

(19:19):
those are the kind of things that when a guy
leaves and then he's taking he's saying things like that,
fans Now, yeah, that fans don't always take so well.
So if he gets booed, it will media because I
don't think it will be because he decided to take
more money to go and ended up in Green Bay.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
I don't think that will be the reason. I think
it will be because.

Speaker 16 (19:38):
Fans will look at him and say, man, why are
you taking those parting shots as you're walking out of
the door.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
You know.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
I think that'll be more of what's going on.

Speaker 4 (19:44):
That's my personal pin. Lack of a high road.

Speaker 16 (19:47):
Yeah, all right, let's talk about let's talk about the
Packers and the Cowboys today. We're talking about the Packers
about defense versus the Cowboys offense. Give me a breakdown,
what and Obviously, we know what Micah can do. We'll
talk litle bit about him, but too but what are
these other guys because they have a good defense, and
they had a really good defense before Michael even got there.

Speaker 8 (20:06):
Yeah, I kind of feel like to me, this is
this game can kind of hinge it a couple of
different ways for you, you know, and Vats is going
to tell you, hey, I don't know who these secondary
guys are.

Speaker 4 (20:15):
It's absolutely right.

Speaker 8 (20:16):
I mean, they don't have the corners that they once
had as far as the name recognition kind.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
Of corner Keishawn Nixon, Nate Hobbs, and Javon b.

Speaker 8 (20:23):
Yeah, they're they're you know, Xavier mckiniti had safety is
a is a good player and they've and they've got
that where this team is really going to and we
talked about their offense. Their offense is going to try
and put you in a pressure where they score points
and now you're gonna chase points because this team really
rushes the passer. Well, my biggest fear in this game

(20:43):
is not so much Micah Parsons, but what will they
do up front to affect with you dealing with a
backup center and a backup guard, and then you have
two tackles that can struggle a little bit with power.
We've seen the Cowboys struggle a little bit with teams
that move the front when we talk about gap exchange stuff.
Now you get the two backup guys in there. How

(21:04):
will the running game will be affected? You know, if
you look, the Packers are defensively near the bottom of
the league when it comes to rushing attempts against them,
you know, and when you give them opportunities, you know
they they've they've stuffed runs. They do a really nice
job with getting their linebackers involved. So it is going

(21:26):
to be this one of these games where all of
a sudden you're saying, okay, just go run the ball,
try and shorten the game. If you play that approach,
then you need to find ways to score touchdowns because
running the ball taking eight minutes and then kicking field
goals and then turning around and giving up three plays
seventy five yards at a touchdown. Now you're down seven
to three, Okay, keep running the ball, try and make hey, okay,

(21:47):
we kicked another field goal here seven to six, you
get the ball back, and then also it's fourteen to
six before the half, so there's some there. Dallas has
got to be really, really careful in this game. I
think really the most important thing is how the op
offensive line it's going to handle, not only Micah, but
with Gary also as a pass rusher. I think Gary
that movement of the front, the twist, stunts and all that,

(22:09):
they're just gonna come after you.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
They're not gonna blitz a whole lot.

Speaker 8 (22:12):
They really rely on four men and they get four
men home. They're really really good fifty of the time.
They're gonna get their rush home. So if you protect
your front, you can find a way to make some
plays in the secondary here.

Speaker 4 (22:23):
It would really really help you if you.

Speaker 8 (22:25):
Had Cede Lamb in this game because of the intermediate
stuff you could throw in the middle of the field
on these guys and then maybe take some of the
longer shots down the field. But it's really their secondary
benefits greatly from how great their pass rush is.

Speaker 9 (22:38):
Cowboys offense is going to need Cowboys defense to hang
in there and buy.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
Them some time.

Speaker 9 (22:43):
I think that's what went bad with the Lions, you know,
you know, we all thought that maybe maybe the Lions
are falling off a little bit. They made coach and
change and then the Lions look fantastic two weeks back
to back. What I think is the Lions got caught
up in this situation where they had to just keep throwing.
And if you have to keep throwing, then that's what
that's what Green Bay wants. Green Bay's defense is kind
of like the Cowboys were when they were in the

(23:06):
game versus Tapa Banda playoffs. Brown You know what I'm saying.
They're they're smaller, and they rushed the passer and they're faster,
but I think you can you can run right at
them Browan and we saw this last week versus versus Cleveland.
Cleveland's defense kept them in the game and they bought
time for the Browns offense. And the Browns offense scored
all they points of thirteen points, stunning thirteen points right

(23:27):
at the end of the game, right in the fourth quarter.
But they bought them time. And what that what that
did was the Browns were able to run the football
the entire game. They just ran it and ran it.
And what you noticed was Green Bay's defense wore down
because they're more quicker guys, right, you know, Wyatt Carlbrooks
in the middle. They're not these three hundred and thirty
pound guys that are just anchored sitting down the middle.
They're they're quicker guys. But if they got to rush

(23:49):
the passer against you, they're they're quicker guys rushing, you know,
rushing the passes. We know Gary, we know Micah. But
if you could just keep this close, and that's the
hard part, I don't think the Cowboys defense is gonna
be able to do it.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
But if you can keep this.

Speaker 9 (23:59):
Close and give and give Dak and the Cowboys offense
the opportunity to be who they are. We want to run,
sometimes you want to pass. Some times play action, and
that's when we get you. The Packers don't really give
up a bunch of big plays because they don't let
other teams do it. Plus, pass rush won't really allow
you to get big throws against them, but certain times
play action. If they think runs coming, they hunkered down

(24:21):
a little bit, then maybe you get lucky over the
middle of the field. Not outside cover two will stop
you from doing that, But in the middle of the
field to the outside Brian, then maybe that's where you
can get lucky. And maybe ferzing over the middle versus
one of those linebackers.

Speaker 8 (24:32):
Yeah, they've been a team in the past that's played
a lot of man coverage and now they're playing a
lot more so. But they really they rely a lot
on their front to be able to control what you're doing.
And so you know, yeah, the number of runs that
you know, teams, teams have gotten behind in games against
the Packers, and that they turns into and he's right,

(24:52):
is right, it turns into you have to throw the
football and you have to abandon the run. But Dallas's
defense has got to help. I mean, they have got
to find a way. It can't be, you know, for
four drives and four touchdowns, you know, it can't. You've
got to get you know, get off the field a
couple of times here a couple of stops will give
their Dallas' offensive chance in this one. But really it's

(25:16):
gonna come down to, you know, can they find a
way when they have to throw the football? Can they
block this front? It's not about it's not only about Michael.
With this group, they will get in some packages where
van Ness will be involved, Gary will be involved. They
will run some uh some some very fast up the
field guys and just trying to tack you that way,
and they'll also blitz, but it's not as much as

(25:38):
you think.

Speaker 4 (25:39):
So how they you know, maybe you get the screen
game working a little bit in this one.

Speaker 5 (25:44):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (25:44):
You know, some teams have tried to run the screens.
I know Cleveland tried to run some screens, had some success.
Detroit tried to run some screens. The Commanders try to run.
That's the way you kind of slow down a team
that wants to get up the field. Micah Parsons watching
the tape, was I think was banged up in that
game last week. There were a couple of times late
in the game where he was you could see him

(26:05):
actually grabbing the back and then having to come off
the field after certain plays. So how you know, Mike,
he's probably not gonna you probably gonna have to drag
him off this field and this week. But it's something
to keep an eye on if if his back starts
to flare up. But nothing wrong with running the ball
at him. And another thing I would think about and
watch and I talked about this, guys, every time I

(26:25):
run the football and you're going away from him, I'm
sending somebody.

Speaker 4 (26:29):
Backside to block him.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Because he can run it down.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
He can run down. But I'm gonna do this.

Speaker 8 (26:32):
I'm gonna try and cut him. I'm gonna, I'm gonna,
I'm gonna get up in his face frust I'm gonna
frustrate him. I'm gonna, I'm gonna. I'm not gonna let
him have a free run after the ball. So if
they run that, if they get under center and run
that outside zone and where people that the Packers have
done a really nice job of playing the ball last week.
The Bears not very good playing the edges. Packers are

(26:53):
good play in the edges, So you have to be
kind of mindful of where you run the ball. But
I would have Span four come across first and come
across Scoonmaker come across every time you run the football.
Somebody needs to hit Michael Parsons and make him play
with his hands down. Make him play like if you
want to, you can chop him inside the tackle box.

(27:15):
Make him play this hands down where he completely stops
and then has to restart to go chase the ball.
Hopefully then you'll have a little advantage there.

Speaker 9 (27:22):
Also to Brian first segmentary, ms Ambar gave us a
fantastic tippit fantastic question. She says, is there anything Clark
can do to kind of help us out? Just some information?
And I really didn't think no, because the Packers aren't
gonna do anything exotic anyway. But we know a lot
about Michael Parsons, Brian, and if I know anything about him,
it's gonna be some hero ball attempts. He wants to
get a sack versuss real bad. So if he's gonna

(27:44):
do that, not one multiple, if he's if he's gonna
do that, We're gonna run a bunch of draw a
bunch of screens play action type stuff. I'm running counter
right at him. If he's lined up at one of
those linebackers off the ball, I'm running power right at him,
you know what I mean. So just make him think
that he's rushing upfield and hopefully run yourself out of.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
The play right, and then we'll do something right.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
Yeah, he had he.

Speaker 8 (28:04):
Had a rep in the the game where that what
are the ten yards runs that Cleveland had in that
game where he dove inside and the bass spilled to
the edge and you could see after the play he
was tapping his chest like he's looking at the silent
my fault and so he'll still he'll still do that occasional.
Uh take a chance and go try and make a
play for you.

Speaker 16 (28:23):
You guys talked about the front four, you talked about
the secondary. What a linebackers look like.

Speaker 9 (28:27):
Fantastic, pretty good linebacker and kwaiy Walker fast, aggressive, fits
nicely and Cooper Mississippi States Andrew and Cooper fantastic as well.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
He's a amaxtas both. I think both.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
Yeah, the Marinda White Colors got you.

Speaker 3 (28:45):
I'm a double check that.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
Oh ook at it, go ahead and talk, go ahead,
do that.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
But uh but uh, both the linebackers they run fast.
Just just double checks, double check. You might be right.
I could be wrong, but just double check for me.

Speaker 7 (28:57):
You were wrong about the playoff win.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
Wasn't wrong. I wasn't wrong.

Speaker 9 (29:01):
I so uh quay Walker from George, I know he
went to Georgia. Uh but they're they're both fast, and
they're both really really good at run fits and they
and and and they fit in very aggressively.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
And they're both passed rush as well.

Speaker 9 (29:15):
So uh, you know, if if if those guys, you know,
Micah and Gary, if they're not getting to your pass
rush wise, you also got to keep eyes on them
because what they'll do, and the Cowboys have had issues
with you know, slants and gap exchange and all this stuff.
They will run gap exchanges with Quay and Cooper and
they'll figure.

Speaker 4 (29:30):
Out the gap exchange. That's that's what I worry about too.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
Uh platy Texas staying them is it?

Speaker 3 (29:36):
I could have swore he was. It's it's all good.

Speaker 16 (29:41):
Throws you off sometimes bad schools.

Speaker 4 (29:46):
What appreciate your appreciate your effort today. I was wrong.

Speaker 3 (29:51):

bottle break.

Speaker 3 (30:01):

Speaker 16 (30:02):

Speaker 16 (32:50):
Welcome Back, final segment of The Great Lap Nest WBC
Mortgage Studios at the Star. Let's talk about this Cowboys offense.
Looking at this team and I'm thinking, Okay, you don't
have CD LAMB. You're playing a team that has that.
That's about as explosive as as you'll face. And I

(33:10):
guess from the standpoint of their defense, when it comes
to you trying to throw the ball, you gotta deal
with a ferocious pass rush. Is this a game where
they really need to rely on Williams Sanders, maybe even
make Blue active and really lean into the running game
in order to give their team the best chance for success.

Speaker 9 (33:30):
I think they're gonna have to lean into the run game,
but I think they're gonna have to do it in
the way that they've.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Been doing it all year.

Speaker 9 (33:35):
Like if you run and you're just running just to
be running, I think they're gonna make an adjustment and
you know, find a way to deal with that. But
I think the Cowboys run game works well. I mean,
just because it's a good run game, of course, but
there's threat of Dak Prescott going crazy downfield on you
with no Lamb. That could be a little different. But
maybe you just need Piggings to step up and.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
Be that guy.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
He is a threat downfield, right.

Speaker 9 (33:58):
So you know, as as long as it's in the
context of what the Cowboys do. If another team forces
you to do anything, you're not going to be as
good doing that thing.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
But if you're.

Speaker 9 (34:07):
Mixing it up and you just really need your offensive
line to just play well at this game, if they
can just wish upon a star and just play the
best game that they've played all year.

Speaker 3 (34:16):
Then you might have a shot there.

Speaker 9 (34:18):
But it's really going to depend on Deck having a
little bit of time and getting the ball out and
then running.

Speaker 8 (34:22):
If you had Booker and BB in this game, I'd
give it a crack. But this team, when it comes
to the metrics, will tell you successful runs against this
team plus four plus yards to carry happened only twenty
four percent of the time. That's number one in the NFL.
That's what that is. And if you had all your
bodies now I've we've all been here and seen games

(34:42):
where Carolina came in here in Week four or whatever
several years ago, and they were the number one run
defense in the league and all that, and Dallas just
hammered them up front and did a great job running
the football and got the victory. I don't think you
can completely abandon the run here. I think you have
to try.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
And you know, the.

Speaker 8 (35:01):
Way that Williams is running the ball, you know, maybe
maybe there is a little bit of that. Maybe if
the Packers are coming in, it's really going to dictate
how their offense plays. If the Packers offense is kind
of you know, playing with their food and not getting
stuff done, you're gonna put their defense in some hurt.

Speaker 4 (35:17):
Because they got it, got it, got a little, it got.

Speaker 8 (35:20):
Some hurt last week against Cleveland, you know, their their
offense wouldn't getting it done, and now their defense had
to go out there and make some plays. And at
the very end they couldn't make plays. You know, they
got in the field goal range and was able to
get the game winner. So I think running is I
think it's important, but not to the point of just
wasting plays or wasting opportunities. I would rather see him

(35:41):
max protect and try and get the ball to pickings
or get the ball to Turpin. You know, maybe you
can find one of those guys. Maybe maybe Tolbert finds
a way to play, you know, get maybe one of
these games for him. But I wouldn't just waste run.
I would just wouldn't waste plays just trying to run
the football.

Speaker 9 (35:57):
I was going to change the question, Okay, no, no, no,
I I was just saying, it'll be really awesome if
Guiden turned down to turn back the clock and had
that one good practice that he had against Michael. If
Guiden can do that in a game, I think it
changes there.

Speaker 8 (36:13):
I kind of feel like that they're going to And
this is the question I have for you guys too.
And I'm sorry, Ambard. Do you have a question on.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
That and write it down brand to come back to it.

Speaker 4 (36:21):
Yeah, please please tell me. Please go ahead with your question.

Speaker 6 (36:23):
It's completely different earth it's on the offense. But I
wanted to mention. I know, throughout the week, coming out
after that loss against Chicago, we were talking about the
tight end position and Ferguson and the way that he's
been playing, and then yesterday Brian Scholtenheimer gave him a
lot of praise and said that they're looking to lean

(36:45):
on him even more in this game, so I wanted to.
I guess after hearing that and then hearing you guys
talk about it, I'm just like, wait, were we on
his analysis? Like how is he really playing? Because to me,
when I heard all the praise, I'm like, okay, hawsee
earn all of that praise.

Speaker 9 (37:04):
Ferguson has has been playing like Jason Whitten lately, where
he's kind of catching the ball but it's not a
bunch of yack behind it. He's definitely gotten better as
a as a route runner. I would love to see
the drops go down a little bit. But what you
really loved about Ferguson was once he catches the ball,
he gets about five or ten yards after.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
And I don't think he's been doing that now.

Speaker 4 (37:24):
That's what Tucker Craft's been doing for Tucker.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
Crab been tearing it up.

Speaker 9 (37:27):
Now, what Shoty might be doing is kind of teeing
us up for something, because the Packers don't really give
up give up many big plays, but when they do,
I think about six of them they've all been around Walker.
So maybe Shotty's you know, getting us ready to Hey,
if Ferguson ends up in that range middle of the
field where he's right between Walker and Cooper, then maybe,
you know, maybe something happens there. But just as of now,

(37:50):
I need Ferg to do some more yack things like
he did a couple years ago.

Speaker 8 (37:53):
He's not wrong, Derek, and I give this question real
quick the group. Yeah, where do you guys want Michael line.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
Up on the side.

Speaker 16 (38:03):
Honestly, I am more concerned, Well, I shouldn't say more concerned.
I am very concerned about him lining up in the
middle of the defense over Hoffman, over whoever they put
it hard and but to be honest with you, I
can't say more because I think both of these tackles.
I think they both will have their hands full trying
to do it. There's only one person that will be

(38:24):
out there of the five on the offensive line that
I don't have worries about Michael lining up over, and
that's Tyler Smith. Everybody else I think it's a it's
a bad matchup and wherever he goes, Dallas better play him.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
Double attention.

Speaker 4 (38:38):
I just wonder if you can double him. You can.

Speaker 8 (38:41):
You probably are better off doubling him on the outside
than you are doubling him on the right.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Roch and Meischel no, no, no, no.

Speaker 9 (38:47):
You're right, Dak that And you know, Deak has a
has a good feel for everything outside. You can help outside,
he could see outside, he can move up. But if
it's nonsense in the middle, you can't double team somebody
and begat for the most part right lets you put
a full back. There's some So yeah, if Micah's in
Biga versus whoever's going to be right guard, that's probably
where the most you know, where the most drums is
going to be.

Speaker 6 (39:07):
You know what intrigues me a lot is like the
thought of during Micah's whole career with being here with
the Cowboys, he's always been held back.

Speaker 9 (39:15):
You know, you.

Speaker 6 (39:15):
Cannot touch the quarterback during practices and all that.

Speaker 7 (39:19):
So it makes me wonder. I'm like, man, this is
the one time.

Speaker 6 (39:22):
Where you're like free, like go for it, go take
him out, do what you need to do. So just
that that whole that's what Yes, if you're coaching on
that side, yes that's what you say, you know, But
the point is here is that.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
I thought it was just.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
Oh my god, it's.

Speaker 6 (39:46):
It's just I wonder what that does to you mentally,
where now you really have this chance not only to
show up against you know, the Cowboys and all that,
but now to finally have the freedom to fully be
one hundred percent go against Dak. And I know they've
never really had issues or anything, but that's just the

(40:07):
way you train out here. You've always being held back
not to touch the quarterback.

Speaker 16 (40:11):
Yeah, I agree, I will say real quick, I want
to go back that conversation we were having about Ferguson
and what coach said to me. I look at that
and I think he's like, well, the guy is leading
them by a large margin in receptions, so he is
doing something very good for their team, for their offense. True,
what our criticism was was not in him his catches.

(40:33):
Like he has twenty seven catches. The next closest guy
is CD at sixteen. He has a eleven more catches
than the next closest guy. So he's doing good things.
I just expect more from the standpoint of him breaking
the tackles, getting the yards after catch, even some more
like down the field kind of stuff up the scene
like that. Those are the things that got me excited
about him early in his career. That's what we're not

(40:54):
necessarily seeing as much of right now. But I see
why the coach gives him praise because he is leading
the team and he's helping move the chain, and you.

Speaker 9 (41:00):
Know that, Uh, that's what happened. Like it's like a
game of give and take. Almost if you if you
lose weight to try to be quicker and faster, maybe
you're not as powerful.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
So we know that. You know, Jake has been working
with Dak at Dak's house where.

Speaker 9 (41:11):
The big football field is and all the back yard
the dack yard, So maybe they're they're timing is good
and all this kind of stuff in the route running
and all this kind of newity's great, But Jake did
Jake is a bit smaller than what he once was,
so maybe that matters.

Speaker 16 (41:24):
All right, real quick, before we end the show, I
did want to ask you guys on the topic of
Pickens and what he has and how much does this
offense change. Do you think with him being wide receiver
one versus CD being wide receiver one.

Speaker 9 (41:39):
I don't think Pickens does all the things that Lamb does.
Pickens doesn't go on you know, he doesn't go emotion
a whole bunch.

Speaker 6 (41:47):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (41:47):
He kind of stays where he's at.

Speaker 16 (41:48):
Is that because he can't or is that because he's
not asked to do it because CD was doing it?

Speaker 4 (41:52):
Well, the numbers will tell you that he doesn't get
emotion at all.

Speaker 3 (41:55):
Now, Turpin does it a bunch.

Speaker 4 (41:56):
Turpin is your number one.

Speaker 8 (41:58):
Then Lamb then Pickings by far the least moved guy
in the offense. And you wonder, now, with maybe with
a week, knowing that Lamb is gonna be out, do
they try and move Pickings?

Speaker 2 (42:10):
Right, that's my question.

Speaker 4 (42:11):
But the first the first three weeks of the season,
he has not moved at all.

Speaker 16 (42:15):
Right, this would have to go back to how did
maybe Pittsburgh use him and does he have the ability
to do the things that ceed Labin does or is
it just a completely different skill set. He can't do
those things, so they have to adjust the offense to
better take advantage of his things and what he does best.

Speaker 9 (42:32):
I would say we would need a couple more weeks
to verify and figure that out. And look, we're gonna
learn real fast. And if we go out there and
he's not doing a whole bunch of motion, he's not
running a bunch of routes, then there's our answer. Oddly enough,
it sounds weird, but Turpin's been the lamb guy. He's
the guy that lines him in the slide or linds
him to the outside across the field. He runs multiple

(42:52):
routes and things like that. And I was shocked when
I saw that. You know, Turpin, Turpin isn't just doing
gadgety things. Turp's doing doing wide receiver things now, and
that's a good sign. But Pickens he kind of has
his own thing, his own role, and he runs his
five or soul routes. And I don't know if that's
because the Pickings or what the coach is ask him
to do. But that's just what we see, you know,
right now. But we will find out more. Please good.

Speaker 6 (43:16):
Like I always wonder when you guys talk about things
like this, and I've never played wide receivers.

Speaker 3 (43:22):
I don't know it's okay, but I'm.

Speaker 6 (43:25):
Just wondering, like, what do you think that that should
just be part of the skill sets that you as
a wide receiver have in your repertoire of things that
you can do. Doesn't necessarily mean that you're always doing it,
but you do have the ability and in scenarios like this,
it shouldn't be that complicated to be able to execute.

Speaker 3 (43:46):
Wide receivers coming all different shape, size and colors.

Speaker 4 (43:49):
Right.

Speaker 9 (43:50):
Sometimes wide receivers lean on how physically good they are,
which is what Pickings does. Lamb is also physically good,
but he can lean on his mentals as well. So
if there's some weird shift going on in the middle
of the field where it looked like cover three but
it's really covered two, I think Lamb can see that
and he'll sit in the right spot, and the coaches
see him doing that, and they trust him to do

(44:11):
it again. Maybe if it was somebody else, they'll keep
running into a defender that they don't see, and maybe
Dak doesn't see also because they're running still. So coaches
will see that in practice and go, Okay, I don't
want you navigating zones as much, but I do want
you jumping over people. I do want you catching slants,
and I'll throw screens at you because that's what You're

(44:32):
gonna make you do some yag things, but they want
but they ask all these guys to do different things,
and I think that's a decent way to say it
without you out of somebody.

Speaker 16 (44:40):
All right, that's a wrap. We'll be back tomorrow, we'll
wrap this thing up. We'll tell you what's gonna happen
this Sunday till then. For Bochulumbardi, Brian brought us in
Amber Garcia. I am Derek Elton. This has been the
Break five on Dallas Cowboys dot Com Radio.

Speaker 1 (44:52):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
