Speaker 1 (00:08):
The following.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
He is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Cowboys, Are you ready for a break?
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Are you ready for a break? Absolutely? Ready for a break?
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Yeah, and so much for that.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
It's time for the Break on Dallas Cowboys dot Com.
Were with Ambar Garcia, Brian brought us, Votch Lombardi, and
Derek Eagleton.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Welcome back to another episode of the Break presented by
LG Today. You guys have me as a substitute teacher.
Substitute teacher, and then we have bunch over there are
drinking some water because he's getting ready to talk talk
talk talk. And then we have Ryan brought us here
and they are gonna get you ready for this game
against the Eagles for Sunday. We're gonna talk today about
(01:09):
their offense, what they're looking like currently, and then how
that matchup looks versus the current Cowboys defense. Before we
get started on that, wanted to talk about some news
and some things that happen. Brian, our guy, the Moon Clark, Yeah,
(01:29):
former fifth round pick for the Cowboys, a guy from
LSU that we had so much hope. I remember, We've
always been hoping for the moment that he was gonna
really start showing up, and he's had a I don't
know how many years now with the Cowboys here, and
(01:50):
now the Cowboys decided to move on from him, and
with that change, it opened up a spot that was
quickly filled by your guy watch period when free will
you will get into. But first wanted to start specifically
with the Monk Clark and kind of the way that
this decision ended up happening and how we got to
(02:10):
this point.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
Any comments on that quickly?
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Yeah, First of all, Man shouts out to him and
he's worked hard since the day that he was here. Man,
this is the business that we're in. We're in a
results based business. And if anything, I think this says
the most about the Joneses and kind of how they've
been operating lately. They've been a lot more aggressive than
what they normally have been as far as getting guys
to come in and help. You know, they were very
(02:35):
aggressive in the offseason and then end season. It's something
that we never see from the Jones like they're going
to they're sending picks to go get guys and bring
guys back in. So what just ended up happening is
you just got too many dudes that you like that
that can just play for you. And Brian, we always
ask who's the last guy, who's that fifty third guy
that's on the roster. There, Brian and the mont Clark,
(02:55):
A lot changed at the linebacker spot, you know what
I mean, Like you you were in this cond looking
and searching for a linebacker, but he didn't beat the
guy that just kind of got his job taken, so
he was behind that guy. Then you bring in Logan Wilson,
then Overshon comes back. You get pushed down twice on
top of the idea that you know you're you know,
maybe a little heavy at D line, you're maybe a
(03:16):
little heavy at corner. Now safety's coming back healthy. We
just ran out of room. We just ran out of space.
But a shouts out of the Montclark man.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
No fact, excellent points all the way around. And this
is what you're in a situation too right now where
you look at the linebacker room, it has changed dramatically,
but also too there was things with the mon Clark
that you know, give him some credit. You know, they
found the back problem at the combine. He came in,
(03:42):
They did the surgery, he worked his way back, he
got on the field. There's been some times where he's
looked very good and there's other times where he looks
lost or he looks out of place. And you know
that you get all these these changes, you get different
staffs coming in the dan Quince, the Mike Zimmer staff
and now what you have with with Matt Eberflus. You
(04:04):
kind of get lost in the shuffle there. And I
think there were some times at training camp that he
was he looked like he was playing with instincts. He
was playing downhill early in the season. You go back,
I mean I went back and watched the Philadelphia game,
you know, opening game of the season, and here he
is on the field playing. But that's where we are now.
It's completely different from where we are today to where
(04:25):
we used to be. But you got to be able
to play with instincts. You got to be able to
play with awareness, and you got to find ways to
get yourself on the field. You can't just be, you know,
like I say, a special teams guy. Yeah, there's some
of those in the league, but you know, they need
you to play linebacker. And in fact, it just wasn't
working out very very well for him in that regard.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Yeah, I mean you guys said it all already in
that regards with him, but sad to see him go.
We'll see where he hands up landing. I haven't seen
any reports on that just yet, but wanted to move
on now with Winfrey and some of I know, he's
a guy you have talked about a whole lot and
(05:05):
then quickly kind of disappear. We haven't been talking about
him as much with his comeback. Now what is his expectation?
What are you expecting from him? Is he someone that's
looking to play at some point or what is happening
with him?
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Well, the dtackle room has gone through a lot of
change since his back has been hurt, so you can
kind of look at him and say the same thing
about him. But I think the difference with Peyon Winfrey
is that there was a time in camp men brought
us in andbar we was just sitting there watching camp
and Perryon was like one he was one of your
best guys there. He was you know what I'm saying.
So we looking at oh so like, hey man, what
(05:42):
you're doing because Perryon going crazy and Solomon and Perryon
was your best pair at some point. So how I
kind of look at it now is he's back, and
you know, I think the Cowboys are in a situation
where they have versatile defensive tackles, and I think what
they're going to try to do. We watched a little
bit of film this morning, Brian. I think they're gonna
try to move those guys out a little bit, bump
them to more three more, four I five takes, which
(06:05):
is right outside of the guard, right outside the tackle,
head up on the tackle. I think you're gonna see
those guys move around a little bit because I think
that your defensive tackle room is a lot more powerful
than your edge room right now. So I think that that's,
you know, where you're gonna make up sitting some guys,
playing some guys a little bit less in your edge room.
I think you're gonna play more guys from your tackle spot. Now,
how does Peron fit? Perryon is not a j TOEA
(06:27):
type tackle Toey is a bigger, heavier type guy. Perryon
wants to go upfield and he's pretty good versus run.
He's gonna give you some pass rush stuff. I think
he's kind of similar to what Solomon Thomas was so
everything that you kind of was getting from Solomon Thomas,
you're likely gonna get that from Perry On with.
Speaker 5 (06:42):
Yeah, here it is. I mean, once again spelled it
out for you right there. This is about Solomon Thomas.
He's got a calf injury.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Have you heard how long?
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Yeah, that's that's I think this is one of those things.
Now you're gonna get an idea. I think they went
out and activated uh win Free here because because of that.
I mean, yeah, I cover a lot of sports, and
you know, not only does the Cowboys, but what's going
on in the National Basketball Association with calf injuries and stuff.
For these athletes, it is a very difficult injury to
(07:12):
come back from. It's not just oh we had a
calf injury and then we're back next week. These things
tend to linger and you've got to make sure they're
absolutely right. I think this move was more in line
with they don't feel like that maybe Solomon Thomas will
be back quick enough, and like Fotch just pointed out
to you, Winfrey could come in and replace that Solomon Thomas.
They now have that ability to and he could back up.
(07:35):
He could back up OsO, Diggy Zoo. He could back
up a lot, a couple of different positions. He gives
you a guy we saw him in training camp. Here's
a guy that will play on the other side of
the line of scrimmage. He is an explosive player, and
it seems to be That's what kind of Dallas is
is kind of gearing their defense to be able to
do get across the line of scrimmage, be able to attack,
be able to use the twist stunts, be able to
(07:56):
pair yourself with you know, with with Quinn Williams, pair
yourself with uh with Kenny Clark, and then be effective
in that role. But I think this one really really
is more about Solomon Thomas, and I bet you we're
gonna hear something about his his calf here eventually coming up.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
So, Brian, they haven't put him on I R or
anything if they do it as four games, right, If
they don't, we would assume that it is like two
to three, right, So I would I would assume since
they haven't done that yet or whatever I guess they're
looking at right after this close game stretch, after this
Thanksgiving kind of yeah, you know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (08:28):
They got three games in what like eleven days eleven days,
So yeah, I think that they just couldn't be. Yeah,
they couldn't have they couldn't afford they couldn't afford to
have uh, you know, be a little bit light at
that position. So I think this is going to be
a reevaluation once they get through that Detroit stretch.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Well, I remember it was after that Arizona game and
we were talking about it. We were talking and you
guys mentioned I'm like, well he had an injury and
everyone was like, oh, but no one really in the
Arizona game. Yeah, and it happened because I remember it
got mentioned. He came out of the game, came out
of the field, but it wasn't like something major that
(09:08):
you expected for it to linger up to this point.
So again it just goes to show that, well, we'll
see what happens now and how they manage this moves,
but this just illustrate that it is probably going to
take a lot longer. I wasn't expected to see Winfrey
at this point because it kind of became something someone
that you forgot about. Yeah. Yeah, but we'll see because
(09:31):
again going back to how he looked, and I'm always
tended careful to refer back to training camp because we
always see.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
That on him.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
We do, yeah, but hopefully And I feel also with
the other guys that you have in there, with the
addition with Williams, I feel like most of anybody that
you put in can potentially, you know, shine as well.
It just creates a lot more opportunities for this guy.
And with him, he's just so strong to his.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Oh he's so good Winfrey. Yeah, Perry is fantastic, great
energy and all that. And you know, like Brian said,
like he plays on the other side of the line
of scrim so he's punching the hell out of people
when he's out there, and he's running the field and bursty,
and you know, yeah, we can't go back to camp,
we can't go back to preseason football and all that.
But this was a guy and look, let's just be
clear here, right, Quinn Williams is in town, you know
(10:23):
what I mean. But at some point, when somebody comes
off the field, somebody got to go back on it,
you know. So I do see this role where Perry
you can get in there. And look, they had these
these different sets of tackles in there, so sometimes it
was Kenny and Quinn and Toya would be in the middle. Right.
I could see a world to where you kind of
bump Perry on to you know, maybe like an edge
(10:44):
type dude and just you know, let him be bursting
on the outside.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
I need to check this in. This terrible on my part,
but there's there's coming to a limit to the activations
for guys to bring back I think they think they
got two left and then you've got a lot You've
really have a lot of football left too, so they
have to be very mindful. So this is one of
those situations to bring back Winfree. There had to be
(11:07):
something kind of going on here, and so they said,
let's get ahead of it. You got the three games
in eleven days. You know, maybe they're going to evaluate,
but just having the two more activations, you know that
that's going to be an interesting going forward as well.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
So, Brent, So when Diggs come back, will he be
one of those activations? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (11:26):
I think so because he would be on the He
would be on that list right now because.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
I see people mentioning him on the chat.
Speaker 5 (11:32):
Well he's and he and I made a mistake on
on on Twitter X whatever you want to call it
where people were asking me, like, I thought he was
coming back this week, and then I checked and no,
it's actually he'll miss this game and then he'll be
available for the for the Kansas City game.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Man.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
So we're not going to see Peyton Turner this year,
is what it looks like.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
Yeah, that's I think so.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Yeah, I think so, because they're probably gonna hold that
last by in case of emergency or something.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
Yeah, okay, but having two spots left, man, that's kind
of that's kind of a rough situation for him right now,
with just with all these games still.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
So damn okay.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
So Josh Butler like, there there there are some there
are some dudes that are standing at the bus stop
just kind of waiting to be picked up right now,
you know. And we can't get Mingo active either.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
I mean that's another one of those kinds of things.
Where are the coaches? I mean, Mingo, he's been a
healthy scratch, you know, every week for you now, and
so now you look at that.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
And the rise of floorinoy.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
But that's like we're saying, I mean, yeah, and the
coaches or the front office quarterback there's clearly a love
for for Tolbert here too, the fact that they're that
they're playing Tolbert over Mingo right now with also the
way because Flinoy and let's and let's be honest, we
can have this conversation too if you want to, and
(12:52):
maybe for another day. Maybe right now, I don't think
Turpin's playing as well as you were thinking that he
was going to play.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
If if you want to be after the injury, well.
Speaker 5 (13:02):
If that's if that is the case, then you know
that that that surely you know if if he's struggling
with the injury, and I guess we're also struggling at
left guard too with the tendonitis in the knee. A
lot of guys trying to kind of fight through some injuries.
But for what the expectations were coming again out of
training camp and what we thought about Turpin, he was
(13:24):
kind of your third wide receiver, and now it looks
like Flinoy's taken over that role. And you know, you
haven't seen you haven't seen that explosiveness out of a
Turpin in a while.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
So Brian as personnel front ex personnel front office guy,
all this kind of stuff, right, who's your new fifty
third guy? Especially that watched this though, Watch this though
with the idea that you got two cornerbacks that can
come back. So is your new fifty third guy a
corner that's on the team right now or are we
looking at some other spots, some other unit that may
(13:57):
be likeright Tober's the fifty third guy.
Speaker 5 (13:59):
Now, I kind of think, like, you know, look who
was just take the take the list of the inactives
on Monday night. Yeah, yet Bridges on that list to
the corner. Yeah, And so you know that might be
one of those things that you want to to go
looking at forward. Maybe you know Bridges on the on
the defense, they they've they've they've kind of in a
(14:21):
situation too. I mean you're looking, really, I don't know
on the offense, who would be that guy because they
moved on Cornelius. We're probably not going to see Cornelius
for the rest of the year, so he's done. But
I don't know, I don't know anybody on the on
the offensive side of the ball that you would take
off it. I don't think they want to do anything
with Jayden Blue. I don't think they want to move
(14:43):
on from Jayden Blue. But but, but but if you
look at overall.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
You you know Tolbert Eland Bridges type Clark.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
You know, uh Elijah Clark, Yeah, at the safety spot.
But I would I would think the guy that maybe
would be the one odd man out right now would
be would be Bridge.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
So damn uh Comstockers, We've got a break. So is
yya on IR or is he just regular out?
Speaker 3 (15:08):
He is?
Speaker 1 (15:08):
He is?
Speaker 5 (15:09):
Uh, he's not. He's on IR right now, so you
might not see him back.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
It's going on.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
Yeah, well yeah, like you said, they only got to
the get more activations moves left.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
Let's go ahead and go to our first break. When
we come back, we're gonna dive into the Eagles offense

Speaker 1 (18:46):
Ambar is like Overshown, just running free, like we're like
we're Quinning and Kenny Clark or whatever. She's just running
around taking.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
Like that. I like that comparison. Okay, let's talk about
this Eagles all that they regardless, but they're still winning games.
They're still winning games. But we're gonna break it down
and there's still a team that I feel that the
Cowboys are very much capable of putting up a good
fight and coming out with a win. Potentially. We'll see
(19:18):
later on Friday, will give our game day predictions, but
for now, break it down for me please.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
I think they're gonna beat the hell out the Eagles. Well,
I know, you just be talking.
Speaker 5 (19:28):
I think the.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Brothers what's going on?
Speaker 5 (19:33):
Look?
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Look, man, I've been noticing the past couple of weeks. Man,
you know with the Eagles, they scoring points in the
teams and all this kind of stuff. And to Ambar's credit,
they are winning game right, that's defense. We'll talk about
that tomorrow, Bron. Why you think they've been able to
put points up on the board. Man, What's what's going
on with our with our Eagles here?
Speaker 5 (19:51):
Yeah? You know what, they don't drop back very much.
They're not a big throw the football team. They kind
of lean on the run a little bit. That their
running game has not been all that great. They've struggled
with some of their offensive lines, some of the issues
with their health across the line. If you go back
and you watch the games, whether you know, I went
back and looked at Saquon Barkley. I looked at all
(20:12):
one hundred and seventy five carries. I was curious because
I was wondering, why are the Eagles not the same team.
They're trying to be the same team that ran the
football last year, but they really really haven't. And they
got a quarterback that struggled with some accuracy at times.
He hasn't thrown a ton of interceptions. He's only thrown one.
It was funny. I pulled it up and said, hey,
I want to watch all of Jalen Hurt's interceptions, and
(20:34):
one play pulled up against the Giants, and I'm like,
I want to see all the interceptions. It was one play,
so that's the only one that he's had this year.
There's been some They've had some problems with some drops.
I mean, if you watch the Lions game last week,
you know some of the guys, whether it was Goddard
had to drop, Smith had to drop. They've had some
(20:55):
opportunities to make some plays. The quarterback hasn't always been
accurate throwing the ball as well. But I think it's
the running game that's been the biggest issue for them.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Botch Brian, you would imagine that Jalen Hurts doesn't throw
a bunch of picks because he liked to hold the
ball and get Sack.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Yeah, I think that's gonna be a big advantage for
the for the Cowboys there. But just kind of you know,
just me watching outside looking in. AJ Brown ain't wrong,
you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (21:18):
Oh, he's not wrong.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
A J.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Brown ain't wrong. Now, to Jalen Hurst's credit.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
They just don't want him to be honest about it.
They don't want to be Jeff Leurrey does not want
him to be honest about the offensive struggles.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
The honest the honest part is A J.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
Brown.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
First of all, he only runs a handful of routes.
That's just true. He runs his slants, he'll do some
crossing roads, or they'll just create a route for him
to just get the ball and just go be that guy.
But I've been seeing him kind of loaf a little bit,
Brian Bro. You know, I just see him not, you know,
fully committal to the running down field for the love
of the game, knowing that he's not going to get
the ball. And I don't I don't think that's because
(21:52):
Hurts isn't finding them. I think he's I just think,
oh man, people gonna get on to me because it
sounds like I'm hating they winning games. I get it,
they win a game, they winning games, I get it, man,
But I think the minute you do some weird stuff
and coverage, I think that dude he just drops his eyes.
He improves really well, though, you know what I'm saying,
So cowboys, you know, versus that they have to keep
their eyes on him scrambling around by in time. I
(22:15):
can't stand when somebody they'll blitz and bring pressure right
and he drops his eyes and he'll run around the circle,
get sacked or just throw the ball away whatever. But
then the very next play they'll rush three. I can't
stand to see a team versus the Eagles only rushing three,
only rushing four, because the Eagles can block it up
a little bit, you know, just for whoever that they
got out there, they can't block it up a little bit.
(22:37):
But when you give Jalen Hurts five or six seconds
to throw the football, he's fine doing that. And that's
where the big chunk plays come from, Brian. But every
time there's some sort of pressure, he drops his eyes
and he flews. Hey, man, do you want me to
give you some more credit? Do this that little five
man thing that you did last week? That old blitzing
(22:57):
Donovan Wilson, you know what I mean, blitzen James and
over shown bringing those guys. Okay, do that?
Speaker 5 (23:04):
Do that again?
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Do that again, brother, Flus, because the minute that you
do that, that you bring an extra guy, a fifth
guy flues. That means you get Quinn Williams one on
one with some you know, Jergins. They ain't doing all
that great right now. Kenny Clark is gonna be over
there against Tyler Steen. He's gonna get the one on
one against him, and it's more than likely gonna be
clowny versus Fred Johnson. Chat. How many y'all know what here?
Fred Johnson is? You don't know him? Flus, Please, sir,
(23:26):
bring a little bit of pressure to kind of get
Hurts off his you know what I mean, get them,
get them, get them off his stance a little bit.
And I think that's how you defeat him in the
run game week in the passing game week one. That's
actually what you did. But you didn't have a guy
to account for like scrambling Hurts. You got a guy
in Quinn Williams now Brian to where he's like an
extra dude to like deal with the run for you,
so you can have one less guy thinking about the run.
(23:48):
I fully flues, please, I fully anticipate flues having a
guy to just spy hrs to just contain him.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
We always talk about Hurts and his ability to run.
How mobile has he been since the last time. Obviously
we've placed in week one mobile huss.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
He can know that that's been and that's something that
you're gonna have to deal with. Though he I don't
think he wants to run. I think there's times he
runs out of want. Yeah, he's got it, but that's
what I'm saying. He wants. He fancies himself as a
guy that can sit in the pocket to throw. But
the second most blitz is the league agrees with you,
the league. The league blitzes him. He's the second most
(24:26):
blitz quarterback in the league. The first is our guy
there with the ravens Lamar Jackson. Those guys. You know
you're right about eye level, You're right about the problems
with their offensive line. The Fred Johnson playing it at
right tackle has been a problem. Landon Dickerson, the guard
who has had the back injury the first week of
the season, and they were in and out with him
in the lineup. Uh, he struggles when he has to
(24:49):
single block. When you watch him one on one block.
And now, how do you create opportunities where where Fred
Johnson is blocking one on one? How do you create
situations where Landon Dickinson is blocking one on one. That's
gonna be the challenge this week. You've got a guy
that could spy. You got a guy that can now
chase down with overshown. You put overshown in the game.
(25:12):
Overshown can run down a Jalen Hirsch. Overshown against the
Eagles played really well. Yeah, there's some snow like two
and a half and a half. He was crazy. I
mean he was going after them and they had a
hard time with him in that football game. But this
is going to be a team that votches right again.
The slants, the hitches. Nobody throws more go routes. I
(25:36):
take that back, the Giants throw go routes. Okay, here
you go. They're gonna launch the ball. They're gonna try
and throw it down the field. They're gonna try and
beat you one on one. They're gonna try and make
a big play, whether they make the reception or draw
the interference penalty. That's what they're gonna try and do.
But you've got I think you're better equipped now to handle.
And I agree with you about the blitzing aspect, to think,
(25:57):
get his eye level down, make him have to kind
of move around in the pocket because the longer he
holds the ball, the more problems he has. It hasn't
resulted in turnovers, but what it's resulted in is some throwaways.
You could clearly see that when you watch the games.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
I see some people in the child, you know, having
these arguments with us being critical of hurt and the
offense over there. And again, yes, at the end of
the day, what matters is winning games, and they're finding
ways to win games. But when you break it down,
you start looking at it in section, you see that
(26:34):
you can actually beat them, like you have the opportunity
and the ability hopefully to beat them and put up.
Speaker 5 (26:41):
A yeah, they have outstanding skill players.
Speaker 6 (26:44):
We know that.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
We don't need to watch the tape. The people in
the chat are probably Eagles fans that are just checking
out when we talk about today. But yeah, you know,
you have a Super Bowl winning quarterback and that's true,
you know, But where you have to be honest with yourself, though,
of the struggles that you look at, the offensive line
has not been always completely healthy. Jordan my Allotta at
(27:06):
tackle has struggled with some pressures over there. I mean
he and and and and and I mentioned the Landon
Dickerson and those guys. They've had some problems with their
health at center. That you have to admit that the
Eagles have not run the ball like they did last year. Well,
a lot of it too is teams are doing it,
and you watch the watch the defenses and again I
(27:28):
watched all the Carrieres, but watch the teams that they've
played against. Guys when they played the Rams, the Rams
got after him, Tampa got after him, Denver got after him.
I mean, there's there's some teams that play some really
good run defense, and what they do is they play
on your side of the line of scrimmage. And what's
happened is you've had to go with some backup offensive linemen,
you know, and that has been a problem when anybody
(27:48):
has when when they've had to use some backup offensive linemen,
that has been a problem. Sakwon Barkley, he's going to
try and press the hole and then he's going to
try and make the cutback. They have teams have not
allowed him to make that cut back run. That's what
he loves to do. He loves to press the hole
and make the cutback and try and do those things.
But teams, like I said, have done a better job
(28:09):
of winning one on one against him against the line
and then forcing him to have to make a cut
or he gets tackled at the line of Scrimmaguar for
a two three yard game.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
If there's anybody in the chat right now, I think
we just up here just hating and and just saying
something just just to be Yeah, y'all either not real
people or y'all just trying to be different. I'm on
lean on the I'm gonna lean on the side that
y'all probably not real people, that y'all probably just like
bots or something like that. You can't watch Jalen Hurston
(28:39):
be like Oh, Jalen Hurst tore it up Verse Green
Bay and Detroit. Now, let's be honest and fair. The
Cowboys pass defense got a lot to prove. Got a
bunch of new dbs out there. Russell Wilson threw the
ball on us. So is there a chance that Jalen
Hurston go out there and throw the football. But based
on the film that we've watched, and you can even
(28:59):
go back to Cowboys versus he was if you would
like Jayalen Hurst drops his eyes when there's pressure and
he gets himself sacked, I would love for y'all to
find Just tell me, tell me, I'm lie, tell me
what film you watched to where you saw him dialing
it up and looking around and the pressure is not
affecting them and he's making all the right throws off
of the pressure. Why are teams blitzing him second most
in the league if he's so good against pressure, we
(29:22):
ain't making this stuff up.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
Goofy, Let's take your break. When we come back, I
love y'all, it's a love. When we come back, we
are going to answer some questions, send some questions in
the chat and we'll get them here in the conversation.
But also want to do a deeper dive into the
running back. We know that that's an area the run defense.
The Cowboys run defense they've struggled in the past, but
(29:45):
now with these changes, what does that match up look
like When you're talking about the run game and the
Cowboys defense after the break.

Speaker 4 (32:30):
That's right, and we are running out of time very quickly,
so let's get right to it. When we talk about
the running game specifically, how's their running back looking like
and how productive can they be on the ground.
Speaker 1 (32:48):
Saquan is a special player, hadn't worked that far all
that much this year. Me's cool still, I wonder and
it's just you know, me talking, Brian, you can chime man.
I wonder if it's more of the Eagles running operation
isn't as good as it was last year, or like
he got worred down by so many carries last year,
(33:09):
because that happens running backs all the time. They have
a fantastic year with a whole bunch of carriers, then
next year they'll pop out like not the same. Saquan
isn't doing because like last year, it'll be a time
to where the Eagles a struggle. I'm not hating, but
the Eagles a struggle and they'll keep the game close
and like at the end of the game, Saquana break
out like an eighty yr run and score. I haven't
seen as many of those this year, you know what
(33:29):
I mean, So that that could be because old line injuries.
You know, Dickerson was hurt earlier in the season.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
He's back.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
Now Steen is there and not back then, you know,
things like that, and now Fred Johnson is at the
right tackle. So I think the big thing is that
we can look at now is that the Cowboys have
gotten much better in the trenches over over time with
just you know, different trades and acquisitions and all that.
And I think the Eagles have like gotten less because
they've been hurt on the offensive line and their run
(33:55):
game just isn't kind of what it is. So just
Cowboys versus Eagles wise, and you know you're going to
see some some Shipping and Bigsby, You're going to see
some of those guys too, But if they're going to
run the football is going to be Saquan or like
hurts for real, and I think I'm ready for Quentin
Williams to go out there and prove that he could
do it against a good team.
Speaker 5 (34:12):
Yeah, I know that is very good analysis of that
because if you look at it, Barkley is he's averaging
like three point eight yards per carry, you know, and
they're the explosive runs are down. If I've told you that,
those long runs and you saw, like I'm thinking the
Giants game, I saw a long run, uh you know
where he you know, he got the ball to the
edge and then he was around the corner. And the
Giants just didn't do a very good job of kind
(34:34):
of taking care of that. But yeah, they haven't had
the explosive runs. They haven't been really healthy. They don't
block particularly well with their tight ends. Their tight ends
do not block particularly well. You know, the Cowboys for
for years is you know, you know, you look back
and you're like, geez that the point of attack blocks
have just not been there. And all of a sudden
you show up with span Ford and now you have
(34:54):
a little bit better guy blocking for you out there.
So the running game of ca and kind of thrive,
But they really haven't. I mentioned that they've had struggles
with their with the health of their offensive line. There's
been guys in and out of the lineup, and I
think it's affected Barkley. And I believe Watch is right
that the number of carries that he had last year,
(35:14):
it will take a will take a toll on the
body because he is averaging less than four yards and carry.
He's played against some teams, though there are pretty good
run defensive teams. If you go back and you watch
all the carries, it's, you know, you're kind of like going, okay,
they're not giving him any space, not giving it. And
it's from game to game to game. And again, this
offensive line has has had their struggles, and we'll see
(35:35):
Dallas is better equipped now with with the with you
with some new linebacker play some if you look at
the other day and in some of the running game stuff,
even even safety is coming down and helping and filling
gaps and making tackles and stuff like that. So the
fits have been better, the personnel has been better for Dallas.
It's going to be a challenge for them to to
(35:56):
handle Barkley in this game, but right now, you know
with them the right tackle being out lane Johnson being
out and then also too, like I say, these tight
ends just not getting it done and it's been a
bit of a problem for them.
Speaker 4 (36:10):
Well, Alan, and I hope I'm pronouncing that right. He
was asking about how the Eagles can handle interior pressure
and going back to Quinn Williams and some of the
things that he's currently doing with the Cowboys. Is that's
something despite the struggles that you currently be having on
their offensive line, is that something that they're even capable of?
Speaker 5 (36:34):
Yeah, they put Yeah, and it really does come because
I mentioned earlier the number of pressures that Landon Dickerson,
the guard the left guard gives up. Is when he
gets put on an island. You when you look at
the Eagles, the majority of the snaps, they want to
help him. And it's funny because Tyler Steeking on the
(36:55):
other side, he has his share of problems too, But
when you look at just one on one pressures, one
on one sacks, it's landon Dickerson and it might be
his back, but they want to create double team situations
for him. So now you know the one thing that
Dallas can do that they they didn't do the first time.
(37:17):
This These two teams met was they now have. Yes,
Kenny Clark did play, but it was Solomon Thomas and
it was Osen and people like that. But they they
can now put a guy like Kenny Clark once again
over Steed. They could put you know, they could they
could kind of cover everybody up with a five male
line and make this make this a little bit of
(37:39):
a different game. Where the Eagles can't double team, they
could force the Eagles to have to single block. And
that's that's the issue for the Eagles. If they single block,
they tend to be in more trouble. So if you
could kind of keep them out of that, and I
don't know, he asked the question of how could the
Eagles combat that, It's really up to the Cowboys. If
(37:59):
the Cowboys, the Cowboys can dictate who who can help
on a double team by just alignment, and if they
want to take advantage that, I hope they do.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Also to a big difference is that Vegas they want
to get rid of the ball quickly as an offense.
The Eagles don't quite get rid of the ball all
that fast. So I think that'll that'll definitely work out
for the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
I think we've answered most of the questions just on
our conversation overall, let me ask you questions.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
We got to kill sure mens fan, So you think
this whole Eagles run run game thing is kind of
lesser than what it was because teams fear the Eagles
passing like more.
Speaker 5 (38:39):
I mean, last year they feared them passing or feared them.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
This year, I'm talking about last year they probably feared
them both equally. This year they're not. They're not throwing
the ball as much.
Speaker 5 (38:50):
Had the drop ACKs year. Yeah, way down, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
Gonna put as many resources in past defense now because
you're not gonna Jal and maybe I'm putting more into
because is like White.
Speaker 5 (39:02):
I honestly think they've played some better run defenses too.
I mean, I mean and when when you watch when
you break down those carries and it's game after game
after game, and you're watching the kind of the same
struggles Green Band Destroyverery. Yeah, I just kind of feel
like though too. Looking at this team offensively, those injuries
have been a problem there. Lane Johnson was in and
out of the lineup. They like to use, they like
(39:23):
to use extra blockers. There's times we've seen we've seen,
you know, Fred Johnson be the extra blocker. We look
at Wholst we got there at the Matt Pryor was
another guy number seventy nine. He's now kind of taken
over the extra blocker role. So they've tried to do
some things with putting some guys because they've had some
trouble with their tight ends. You know, they're trying to
(39:45):
get offensive linemen on the field to block because they
realize that it's been a struggle for them. But to
your point, I think it's really about I think it's
a lot to do with the really the health of
this line, because there's times where they last year they
were clearly one of the the best offensive lines in
the league, but now I think they've been compromised with
their health.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
I got I got one matchup when I asked the
panel about here, I'm gonna start with Ambar here and
Bar what you think about our guy savon Revel being
tight end guy and chasing around Dallas Goddard Because if
there's guy, if there's one guy hurts, we'll find He'll
go find Goddard. You know what I'm saying. What you
think about Revel being tight end hybrid corner Nickel slat.
Speaker 4 (40:26):
Guy before I answer is.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
I've heard of both. I've heard, I've heard I've heard,
I've heard Savon Revel and Chaven Revel. I've heard both. Okay,
the Rookie Corner, the around Carol from East Carroll Revel.
What y'all think about Rebel being the Dallas Goddard tight
(40:53):
end chase around guy.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
I think, honestly, I'm so excited to see how he
performs in this game, how much they continue to utilize him,
because we've talked about his physique, Like body wise, he
is like the has a prototype of what you're looking
for in a corner. And I think right now, despite
(41:17):
of him coming off that injury, he's feeling refreshed. He's
feeling refreshed and brand new and going out there just
like when everybody else has been playing all these weeks
and getting tired. He's been watching from the sideline, learning
and studying. I think he is more than prepared book
wise to come and be there and take care of that.
(41:41):
And he I think he can match up with almost anybody.
Speaker 1 (41:48):
Because of the size.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
Because of the size and despite of the experience, there's
something about him that I feel like his head even
though he was retained back physically because of the injury,
but I still feel that he's ahead of a lot
of other rookies and even bettering guys that are on
(42:09):
the team. So I'm excited for him, and I think
it's going to be if they really utilize him and
decide to commit to him, he'll be a good match.
Speaker 5 (42:17):
Yeah, I think this. I think you're onto something here. Yeah, yeah,
you did make some really good points. I think you're
onto something here because you know you're gonna get the
next couple of weeks. Now the Detroit game will see
because Sam Laporter's on injured reserve. So but you've got
a couple of weeks coming up here, a couple of
games where you've got Dallas Goddard as we mentioned, Uh,
you know we've seen in the past where Jordan Lewis
(42:39):
went running with him, you know, and did seven Jordan
being a you know, a feisty, shorter player and stuff
like that. And then you've got Travis Kelcey coming up too,
so you got it might be an opportunity from what
we saw in the Raiders game, where he got a
couple of opportunities to play against those good quality Raider
tight ends. Maybe maybe you're onto something here. Vot's that
all of a sudden we see him and so situations
(43:00):
against Dallas Goddard come on the field on third down
situations and play that way. And then then on the
short week, can he do something against Travis Kelcey And
but if you know, like I say, and then you
could have gone, well what about Detroit? Well, Sam Laporta,
like I said, is on the injury reserve. So this
is something that clearly that Dallas could play with going forward,
because Ambar mentioned because of the length, because of the size,
(43:23):
because of the ability to travel, the ability to close
on routes, and how competitive he plays.
Speaker 4 (43:28):
Do y'all remember going back to his college career, was
he that he got interceptions quite often?
Speaker 1 (43:35):
Or how was he before he had like four or five?
Speaker 5 (43:39):
Yeah, he's he's a guy that gets his hands on
the ball. He's like a knock it down kind of guy.
But he but the one thing that you watch him
play and watching this morning, broke down some film on
him and some routes, and I'm one of these guys
that loves to see the the guy carry an inside route. Well,
VOTs broke it down for you today later our show
(43:59):
will be it'll be up on our show. But yeah,
he's got that ability, I mean, the burst, the length,
the awareness. I mean you could see in the game
that he one time they clouded the coverage where he went,
the safety went down, he went back, picked up a
route they exchanged for a guy playing right off the jump.
That that kind of awareness. Again, there's some challenges ahead,
(44:23):
but at least the first game out of the blocks,
you're kind of encouraged by what you saw from the player.
Speaker 1 (44:28):
Overall, he's a rookie, but if he knows the system, yeah,
and he's better than somebody.
Speaker 5 (44:32):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (44:34):
All right, well we we did in that little Lady. No,
I have another show to do now. But thank you
guys so much, Boch Brian and thank everyone for the chat.
I know y'all get crazy in there, but it's always
a good time to read some of those comments and
(44:54):
try to bring it onto us a part of the
conversation here on the show. We'll be back tomorrow breaking
down the Eagles defense. I know you guys are very
excited to see how the Cowboys can match up with
their defense. Who is the area the side of the
ball that's winning the games for them, so we'll see
how that matchup looks like against the Cowboys offense. For
(45:17):
Vach Lombardi. Brian Bradas, a member GACIA. This has been
the Break on Dallas Cowboys dot Com Radio.
Speaker 2 (45:24):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club
