Speaker 4 (00:16):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Are you ready for a break?

Speaker 5 (00:18):
Absolutely? Ready for a break?

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Yeah, and so much for that.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
It's time for the Break on Dallas Cowboys dot Com.
Were with Mbar Garcia, Brian brought Us, Votch Lombardi and
Derek Eagleton.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
It is when September twenty four, twenty twenty five, Season
twenty one, episode number forty four. Welcome to the latest

Mortgage Studios at the Star, presented by LG. LG is

O led Eva TV. Y'all are crazy, man, for real crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
You brought a local.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Y'all brought who's really crazy?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
So who's really crazy? That's the question? You put this together, sir,
You're right about that, and I sometimes I'll question that.
But and when it gets weird, all right, we got
a lot to get into today. Uh it is our
Wednesday show. So today we start turning the page.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Go pack cool Oh, get out of here.

Speaker 6 (01:29):
That's what they say.

Speaker 7 (01:30):
I don't care. Yeah, but not here. We don't say
that here.

Speaker 6 (01:32):
Though he were talking about the Packers.

Speaker 7 (01:34):
I know his history.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
I never worked.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
It's actually kind of shocking you don't have on the
ring today.

Speaker 6 (01:40):
I thought, all this, we put people walking by to
look at us, and you ain't even got the Super
Bowl ring on right now?

Speaker 7 (01:48):
Brow what happened? You never take that thing off?

Speaker 3 (01:51):
I am going to talk.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
About We got a lot talk about on the Packers,
but today is the less interesting part because tomorrow will
talk about the factors of defense and Michael Parsons, but
today we will focus on the offense and what we
think of that offense and how the Cowboys possibly can
match up with what we've seen so far. Before we
get into that, though, I wanted to start with a

(02:13):
little a little bit of a conversation around Ron Bland yesterday.
Jerry Jones said, I don't want to get over our
skis here. It's good possibility we'll have him. So the
expectation is they will likely have him this weekend. The
big question is how much does he help for a
defense that has been struggling mightily against every offense they played,

(02:34):
even the offenses that are considered bad throughout the league.
How much does having Bland back.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Help if he can play his zone and pass guys
along and jam At Atlanta scrimmage, the right direction you know,
j is jam jam if he's playing zone.

Speaker 6 (02:51):
It's an ideal that works. It's proven over time to work. Yeah,
we know a square jam sink and go with We.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
We know Bland as a covering nickel guy. But right
when we're up in here, there's gonna be some zone looks.
And based on how the film has been looking Brian
brought us out, maybe they'll keep Ready where he's at,
and maybe they'll make some changes as far as outside goes.
You know, I'm not gonna make any bold statements there.
It just did.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Are you saying that they should consider the possibility of
keeping Ready in there in the slot and taking elm
out or taking Trayvon Digs out and putting Bland in
on the outside.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
If flu is gonna change and do some things and
fold to the pressure of social media and cowboys break, then.

Speaker 7 (03:35):
It's folding to the pressure of what you see on tape.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Fair, then hold on to what.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
You just launch.

Speaker 7 (03:46):
Sorry, like I mean.

Speaker 6 (03:54):
It was almost like she should have bar with that.
It was like a cigarette head out of the corner
of her mouth for that.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Sorry, how do you say in fuego like yeah, wow, Okay,
I forgot my point.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
So if if if Felus is gonna fold to the
pressures of Ambar Garcia and run some man, then it
might benefit you to hold on to what you have.
You know, Kyrie Elam is probably gonna play a little
bit better of Man, and you know, Bland to go
play Nickel and man and Diggs will play Nickel and
Diggs play outside his Man. But if you're gonna hold
to what you have and just keep playing zone, it

(04:27):
might benefit you to move Elam around. I would say,
I don't think they're gonna move Diggs Diggs.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
And when you say moving around, your men move him
off the field.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Off the field, keep Ready, because Ready seems to understand
somewhat what he's doing somewhat. But the big blinking light
has been Elam. I would say Diggs Diggs has made
his mistakes. I would say Diggs is giving him. He's
given his his his his own problems. He's he's created
issues for himself. I don't think Elam fits this zone

(04:54):
thing very well. If they're gonna play man leaving there,
but just this zone thing, I think Bland will probably
do that better than That's just my own, my own
personal opinion.

Speaker 6 (05:02):
Can I interest you guys in playing any dime this week?
And that's the six defensive backs? And I say this
facci in a way of I'm a little worried about
this Tucker Craft, this tight end and if I if
I'm if you're gonna let me, if you're gonna let
me play a little man, maybe I play a little
man with Elam and let a bigger guy go with

(05:24):
that guy, and see if in fact that Tucker Tucker
Craft and we're going to get into it is a problem.
It's going to be a problem for you. And like
I said, we'll get into it. But the one thing
that I looked at, just metrics wise, there's some teams
to have played some dime defense against this quarterback, and
that's six defensive backs. It's giving him a little bit

(05:44):
of some problems. So I wonder, again, here here's our
show asking for something, probably not going to get it.
But if you're gonna, if you're going to play with Bland,
digs and Stewart. Maybe I could find a role for
Elam having to cover a tight end that has some ability.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
You know, it's funny right before you said that, as
he was talking, I wrote down here, Elum cover tight
end because we've seen we've seen in past years, not
with this, not with this group, what we've seen in
past years.

Speaker 6 (06:14):
Oh Jordan.

Speaker 7 (06:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Whether they'll get a cornerback and they'll say, Okay, we
got this this tight end we're a little worried about.
We're gonna put this guy on him all day and
we're gonna make him after deal with somebody who could
really cover. Now, the question would be that big body
can he can he take take him down once he
makes the catch. But the fact of the matter is
you do like the matchup of him trying to get
open against how.

Speaker 6 (06:35):
About make a contested catch. Now, the problem you're gonna
get into with this offense is they will play twelve
personnel with the two tight ends on you, and then
all of a sudden they act like they're blocking and
then they sneak out of it. They sneak out of
the block, and then now you're kind of open and
the quarterback has been able to find these it's it's delay,

(06:56):
it's delay, it's delay, and then it's gone. And that's
you know, how long are you going to be able
to hold coverage on these guys?

Speaker 3 (07:02):
If that's the case, how much does he.

Speaker 5 (07:05):
Help a g.

Speaker 7 (07:08):
Right now?

Speaker 8 (07:09):
I'm like, do something different. It's just coffee from the coffee.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Man, you face pointing fingers, irish cream.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
We need to have a conversation because you.

Speaker 8 (07:26):
Guys are mentioning about players, and the more I think
about it individually, I still think you you have a
lot of talented players on defense. You still, yes, you do?
You do because you've seen it. Bryan Man, I don't know.

Speaker 6 (07:41):
I was like that guy that But.

Speaker 8 (07:44):
When you start naming different guys and I'm not saying that.

Speaker 6 (07:49):
Talented right now, ag, that's the problem.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
But that's what you're about to tell your scheme is
that fault though?

Speaker 7 (07:54):
Please, I get it.

Speaker 8 (07:56):
My point is they're here, they're okay, let me look
at the camera.

Speaker 7 (08:02):
Then okay, that's what we're supposed to do.

Speaker 6 (08:05):
I follow direction, nobody else.

Speaker 8 (08:10):
He just likes interrupting all the time. Okay, Ryan, you
you are a scout. You you you'll.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Are just the team. You're still scouting.

Speaker 8 (08:22):
The thing is, again, these players are here for a reason,
and I'm saying, yes, the level goes down at certain
positions where you're not as great as you could potentially be,
but at the same time, you still have all around
players that I still believe are capable of performing at

(08:43):
a decent level to keep you in a game and
compete at least give you a chance. As long as
your offense is taking care of business. They can still
help you compete, but you're not utilizing them in the
right scheme. Now, I am not a coach for a reason.
I don't study, I don't get paid that much.

Speaker 7 (09:03):
I don't know.

Speaker 8 (09:07):
At all the levels of it, because to me, oftentimes
it seems very simple and like, oh yeah, sure, just
change scheme and do this and that. Obviously it's a
lot more complicated than doing just that, but at this
point I think you just have to have a conversation
with each player, get to know them very well, and
get to understanding really well what it is that they're

(09:30):
best at to in order to try to position them
the best way possible, because right now, there's no reason
why you should have all these players on the field,
especially on the secondary and have them looking around like
what is going on and being confused and they're being
lack of communication.

Speaker 7 (09:46):
That should never be the issue.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
I think that's all fair and I agree with it,
but I will throw out this theory that I got
from Nick Eatman that I thought is very interesting and
it's actually a theory heat throughout several years ago when
talking about I want to say, this goes back to
Tony Romo. Uh and he used the term he called
him a diaper, and what he meant by that was.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
You remember that. But the point of it was he is.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
The reason why he's a diaper is because he covers
all the blank right, It's like all the things that
are wrong, he makes it okay because the diaper just
covers it and kind of holds it together. And I
do wonder, I do wonder if some of these players
that we thought of as being a certain level of
skill and talent that was a little higher, maybe what

(10:36):
we're seeing now is Michael was the diaper. And because
you had a pressure player who was one of the best,
if not the best, pressure players in the entire NFL,
if that affected opposing offense is so much so they
couldn't exploit what was happening on the back end that
they couldn't exploit what was happening with the linebackers. And
I do think that there are some limitations to Micah's game,

(10:58):
particularly in run defense. But I think from the standpoint
of being a pressure player, I wonder I don't know this,
but I wonder if some of the things that we're
seeing right now are a result of the fact that
they don't have that level of pressure and it allows
offenses to exploit the defensive challenges that they have on
the back end.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
That's fair. I don't mind you thinking of Micah as
a diaper, but it's flues, like just regular draws, Like
he just can't hold the blank at all. Like if
if blank is there flu alues you know what I'm saying.
And it could be loose boxers where a lot of leakage,
where where's no room at all? Right, Like I think

(11:40):
you have guys. To your point, the players may not
be as good. But to Ambar's point, we've seen these
players be good somehow somewhere. Yeahs Digs in one season
had eleven picks. Dron Bland got the pick six record, Like,
let's get those guys in situations to do that well.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
But I want to be clear about that exactly is
the point. So the reason why I think they got
all those picks is because, again, quarterbacks are like, I
better get rid of this ball quickly because I know
who's coming and he's coming quickly, and if I don't
get rid of the ball quickly, then I'm gonna probably
take a sack here or something worse, in which case,
now I throw into a bad situation. Quarnerbacks know that

(12:19):
ball has to come out quick so I can bite
this route and I can get the pick. I think
all those things going are part of this. And again
I am not saying in any way that I don't
think that they're not being placed in the best position
possible for them to be successful. I think there's all
of that going on, but I do think the lack
of pressure is affecting everything else.

Speaker 8 (12:40):
But this is what I don't understand because and I
respect Micah parsons game a lot. I think he's a
unique and a very elite player in the NFL, and
you cannot take away what he brings to whatever team,
whether it was his time here with the Cowboys or
now over there.

Speaker 7 (12:56):
In Green Bay.

Speaker 8 (12:57):
But at the same time, there's no reason why you
not having him on the field means you absolutely don't
have anything er pressure.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
You should be able to be able to beat Braxon Jones.
Micah can beat Andrew Thomas and the may Littas and
all those guys, But Dante Fowler, you gotta beat James Hudson.
You've gotta beat Marcus both.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
And if they can get that kind of pressure, if that,
if he can win that matchup, that gives you the
pressure that you were missing with Michael Parsons. That is
the bigger question to me is who's gonna fill that gap.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
I don't at this point. I don't even care about
the sacks. I care about who's going to pressure the
quarterback to make him get rid of the ball quicker
so he's not just sitting back there and taking time
to be able to decide where he wants to go
with the ball, allow his receivers to get open even
though they may be covered early. I think all those
things are part of this, and I think it starts
upfront with those guys that are supposed to be getting

(13:53):
after the passer that maybe are not getting after the passer.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
The world conversation with somebody.

Speaker 6 (13:59):
Words that haunt people that work in this organization. It's
a long history of it. Flues can manufacture pressure. I
haven't seen that yet at all. Haven't seen that yet
at all. We consider and talk about this, that and
the other, and put him in position to make plays

(14:20):
and all this. But they honestly believed that when Micah
walked out that door, when they traded him away to
Green Bay, they would be able to manufacture pressure. I
had a coach in the NFL tell me yesterday, if
you're going to manufacture pressure, you better blitz. This guy
doesn't blitz, and when he does blitz, it doesn't always work.

(14:42):
But those are the words. Those are the words that
they told us when Micah Parsons was moved on to
Green Bay. Flues can manufacture pressure. We've yet to see
that in any shape or form.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
And that's going to be about how is he going
to maneuver these pieces, whether that be do they need
to get guys like le File on the field more
and send them at the pass rusher. Do they need
to come up with with situations where they have, you know,
other guys that can blitch from other places cornerback from
safety from wherever on the field to be able to
get pressure. But manufacturing pressure is what they're going to

(15:16):
have to do because I don't have right now. They're
going to do it with the front four. There's nothing
that suggests they can't do it consistently with the front four.

Speaker 6 (15:21):
You can't play ninety eight percent zone and continue to
rush for men. Can't do it. You cannot do it.
They're one of the if you look at the metrics
that the highest, one of the highest zoned teams in
the league, and they're one of the highest teams in
the league when they rush four, and they're also one
of the least. They're one of the they get the
least amount of pressure of any teams in the National
Football League. So you know, you better figure something out

(15:44):
that way. And yeah, it's it's it's on the players,
it's on Fluse. But those are the words when when
you moved on from Michael Parsons. Yeah, it helped your
running game because you got can absolutely do it. But
you know what also, but it also hurts you to
the point where teams don't have to run the ball
on they don't have to run the ball on you
because they're giving up four hundred and fifteen yards of

(16:05):
deep balls, touchdowns things like that. Why run? Why run?
When you're Russell Wilson and you can just stand there
in the pocket and throw the ball down the field
because you feel comfortable doing it.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
And what's interesting about that, Brian is I think you know,
if you look back at the last couple of years,
I think the similar thing was happening on the flip side.
Teams were saying, well, we can the gate the pass
rush of Michael Parsons. They can't stop us from running.
We'll just run it down the throats.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Right running?

Speaker 6 (16:33):
I hate running the ball. Yeah, I would rather quick
death and slow down.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
It really is give me quickly every.

Speaker 6 (16:40):
Time, right exactly like, Okay, I'm about to die here.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
I love the fact they fixed the pass the run defense.
Uh now, they got to figure you.

Speaker 7 (16:50):
Got a big dose to that. The other day.

Speaker 6 (16:52):
Your run offense was great. Yeah, in your run offense,
if you were ahead, that would have won that football GEP.
But you never could You never could care.

Speaker 2 (17:00):

Mind your business.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
We don't do this.

Speaker 7 (20:06):
I just don't like season fifty one.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
And they're coming, They're coming. We're working on it.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
That's BLOCKCHAINLG.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
These things don't move quick.

Speaker 6 (20:19):
Cowboys, right, they don't.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
They don't move quick.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
We gotta we gotta work. I bet them TVs ain't
moving good to me.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
Giving away from sacks and interceptions.

Speaker 5 (20:30):
That's funny.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
All right, Let's jump in Green Baby offense versus Dallas defense.
Brian which got bot?

Speaker 6 (20:35):
You helped me with this one a little bit, though,
If you can quarterback can be pressured here?

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (20:40):
Are you good enough to pressure them? I know we
just talked about that in the first segment though, And uh,
here's once again an offensive line that's been somewhat compromised.
They're having to move some guys around. Their guys aren't
completely healthy. Their best offensive lineman is dealing with an
oblique injury. There's questions whether he will play this week.
My doubt is that he won't. But this is an

(21:00):
offensive line that you can attack and you I feel
like though their offensive line, when you look at it,
the tackles are really where it's at for the number
of pressures you can get and potentially you're gonna tell
me that these that you don't trust. You don't trust
these edges to get home against these tackles, aren't you So.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
Just watching the film, Brian, The Packers do have a
good tackle, really good tackleing Zach Tom but he's.

Speaker 6 (21:27):
Hurt, he's got the ol blaque.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
Then you got Walker Walker solid, Walker will give up
pressures and all this kind of stuff. But Brian, where
I'm at with it, yeah, is I don't care who
they got playing tackle. I don't think the Cowboys are
going to be able to get pressure against them, so
I'm not even looking to evaluate it all that much.
I even look down at the practice squad. They got
a character named Brent Banks. I think nobody at this
table's ever heard of them. If Brent Banks played right tackle,

(21:49):
brow he had a perfect I still he'll He'll make
the damn Pro Bowl in one game, Brian. So moving
forward until the Cowboys proved me different, and maybe a
clowny situation that comes in, and or or White Coton
maybe had conversation with these guys like, hey man, we
gotta win early. Maybe let's have a counter, let's just
work on this getting off the ball. Things like that,
I don't see any hope winning on the outside, Brian,

(22:10):
As of now, I do have hope winning on the inside,
though winning on the interior. Kenny Clark got a sack
play he should have to just my own personal opinion.
And Os is a guy that can generate pressure, getting
a feld whooping like that. What they've been doing in
Zach Tom's injury, Brian is they got a rookie Belton.
We was watching a film with him kind of slow
for I thought he was a guard. Whatever they got

(22:30):
Jordan Morgan, who's a guard that I thought it was
a tackle and is what it is. But he's moved
around left tackle, right tackle, left guard. Last week versus
the Browns, they play both those guys at right tackle.
What's gonna happen more than likely, Brian, Aaron Banks their
first left guard. He's got a growing situation. Growings just
don't come and go away all that fast. So if

(22:50):
I had to assume Jordan Morgan, who gives up pressure,
will be playing left guard and their back of rookie
Belton will be playing right tackle, I ain't looking at Belton.
I'm looking at the two guards here, which is Jordan
Morgan and Sean Ryan, the right guard.

Speaker 6 (23:03):
Yeah, I think the thing with Ryan, I kind of
see a bigger, slow footed guy though, And maybe what
you're talking about and I do like what you're doing
here is the playing with the quickness with the Solomon Thomas,
playing with osa inside quick and then try and take
advantage of some of these guys that aren't moving so well.
I think the center Elton Jenkins, I think that he
could be a guy that kind of you could kind

(23:24):
of uh, you can kind of move around with him,
get the edge on him. I don't think he's the best,
one of the strongest guys. He's kind of a long, linear,
tall center and when and I know the Browns are
a different crew when it comes to their front. They
don't even want to say the name. Yeah, we don't
have none of those that the Browns are. That Browns
are elite when it comes to rushing the passer in

(23:45):
my opinion. But you watch the commanders and stuff and
the guys that we know about the Dorn's Armstrongs. Interesting
with the pressure though, that comes the sacks that they've
been able to get on this quarterback. Of the seven sacks,
the giving up four of them come on second down,
So there's something kind of going on. Maybe you gotta
find a way, you know, not just the third down pressure,
but where does the pressure come from on those on

(24:07):
the on second down?

Speaker 3 (24:08):
Maybe just maybe Brian, what the what the Packers like
to do is they'll take shots on second down right,
then go for maybe something shorter on third, and they'll
just go for it on fourth. So just game like
game flow, maybe that's that's what happens. But I have
seen coverage sex make Jordan Love hold ball a little bit.
So if we're gonna go out there, and when I

(24:29):
say we, I mean the Cowboys. I'm a fan. The
Cowboy's gonna go out there and play the little zone
that they've been running, then Jordan Love is probably gonna
light you up a little bit. But if you mix
up those looks and try to mix them up a
little bit, Jordan will hold the ball. Now, Jordan, Jordan
Love can run.

Speaker 6 (24:42):
He can't run.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
He can run like these past quarterbacks that we have,
but you maybe not even have to worry about him
running because of the DB's or whatever. Right, So maybe
if anything changes, like if you do put Jordan Love
in this hurt situation right to where Okay, I can't
throw the football right, maybe I have to run then
maybe that's where you see him running around a little bit. Uh,
Brian brought us, but I've also seen gap exchanges. Yeah, stunts,

(25:05):
stunt slants up front that can kind of miss these
guys up a little bit. And it could be Jenkins
not having much continuity with Sean Ryan, right, Jordan Morgan.

Speaker 6 (25:13):
Because of all the moving around they've had to do.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
Miss Wolf so uh, you know, and honestly, it's it's
not even about them, it's more so about us. Like
if Jordan Morgan went out there and played right tackle,
how to have great things say about Jordan Morgan, But
the fact that he's playing left guard, I think that's
just a better match up for us.

Speaker 6 (25:29):
Bro Yeah, I think to me too, the pressure this
affects this quarterback. And because you will see him he
doesn't always set his feet. He will he will throw
off his back foot, he will miss throws. He's missed
some really some open throws down the field. Uh. But
I've also watched him and all the completions he has
made some throws. David said, well, that was a pretty
pretty good shot right there. But when his feet aren't set,

(25:53):
He's not gonna be as accurate. Ball's gonna go a
little high on him. He's he's missed some he hasn't
been as accurate on some crossing routes and stuff. The
key to this thing again with him is don't let
him run, keep him in the pocket, keep him playing backwards,
but kind of make sure that he's throwing off balance.
That's where you have really the best opportunity to make
plays on the sky.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
Brian, did you get a feeling that the Packers start
really fast early? Yeah, and maybe in the middle.

Speaker 6 (26:18):
Of the game they'll kind of Yeah, there's is if
you talk to And one of the reasons why I
got was with a coach last night was talking about
some stuff about playing the Packers. Is that they were
telling me, and not only this coach, but last week
I was asking about the Packers. They feel like that
if you could get through their first fifteen, if you
could weather the storm of their first fifteen. And this guy,

(26:40):
Matt Lafleur, I think is a really is a good
play caller. But there's but there's there's teams around the
league that said, listen, find a way to kind of
contain don't let Green Bay jump up on you. You know,
their first fifteen are really, really, really good, and then
if you can weather that, then you can kind of
get into a flow with them and play They're going
to have, you know, with their situation at wide receiver.

(27:01):
You know, I think that to me that when you
look at Dobbs, Golden Wicks. We really liked Golden coming
out of Matthew Golden coming out of Texas last year.
He was one of these guys, but he really hasn't
stepped up like we thought he was going to be.
We've seen Abuca from Tampa step up and make big.
We've seen you know, the guy Carolina step up and
play well. Golden struggled a little bit, and I think

(27:24):
this offense struggles a little bit at the wide receiver spot.
So how do you cover that? How do you deal
with the tight ends? They're going to be key this week?

Speaker 3 (27:31):
Yeah, bron I didn't talk to any coaches, but I
talked to some YouTube friends of mine. I mean, that's
that's that's about the same thing. Yes, I got a
gang of like folks shoutside will still this guy and
all them guys, yea, all them cares, but missing Jayden
Reid is like her huge for them. As far as
the Cowboys go, You've just dealt with with teams that
got like they got wide receiver right and if you

(27:52):
count one Dale Robinson, they all got sort of a
duo at wide receiver, Dobbs, Golden and Wicks. They kind
of play in the context of offense. However, you know,
whatever it is that you give them, whether it be
d Ball down on the slant, then that guy would
be the guy that will go off. But they don't
have just one guy that will just whoop you this
week like the like the past few weeks. So maybe
that's where your corners get a smaller advantage. I will say.

Speaker 6 (28:14):
Smaller advantage to I agree with you on that. The
thing that the thing that I that I do worry
about is the tight ends here I do worry about.
With Tucker Kraft, I think this is going to be
and even him John Fitzpatrick, they're going to get in
that twelve personnel I was talking about it. They're going
to act like that, they're going to help and block.
I wonder how much they're really do they respect Dallas's

(28:35):
pass rush at all? Maybe not, you know, because we've
seen teams start to double team the defensive tackles now
and make sure that they take care and then single
block the outside. So the Packers like to play with
the tight end end line on the line of scrimmage,
kind of check check, check, and then release, and then
that gives Jordan Lewis mean, Jordan Love said, Jordan Lewis

(28:58):
way back in then Jordan Love, uh the uh, the
opportunity to check it down and then they've had pretty
good run after the catches with their tight end. So
how you deal with the with given the putt pressure
on the quarterback, but also dealing with this tight end.
That's why I mentioned maybe playing some dime stuff against
these guys with the six defensive backs, make Love have
to kind of read, clog and cover, make the back

(29:20):
end kind of muddy for him, but then be able
to run with this tight end with a with a
corner that is more apt to be able to cover Brian.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
You think maybe that's what Quinn tried to do a
couple of years ago, try to go light in the
box there, but the Cowboys just didn't have the d
line to do, didn't have it. Yeah, if you had
some you would think maybe like like Clark makes it
a little if you had.

Speaker 6 (29:40):
If you had Clark, if you had Clark, you could play.
If you had Clark, you could play a ton of
dime because now you're protecting your smaller linebacker safety guy
for sure.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
Yeah, the you guys listening to flush when you talk
about Josh Jacobs, is he a guy that I saw
in two of the three games he's been held He
and the Packers, they're off. Their whole rushing has been
held under one hundred yards. And I was against Detroit
and Cleveland. As you said, Clearan the whole different beasts.
That defense is just really really tough to play against Detroit.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
It's a good defense.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
I wouldn't say it's like impossible, But what do you
say about their running game and particularly Josh Jacobs.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
Jacobs is formidable. He's not sain Kwan Barkley, but he's
a good formidable back. I kind of look at him
as like a volume runner, Like the more you give
it to him and the more he gets going and
he wears you down at the end. I think he's
really dangerous in the red zone, like like that's where
a lot of his touchdowns come from. But just as
far as can you hold him in the you know,
like if you're in the twenties and thirties like that,
I think you can do a pretty decent job. But

(30:38):
he's really a he's really a bulldozer down in the
red zone.

Speaker 6 (30:42):
But yeah, where Dallas has been really good this year
is as of last year, they were never making contact
behind the line of scrimmature at the line of scripts.
Right now, I think teams are averaging like a half
a yard against him before contact. So that's telling me
right there that Dallas is doing a really good job
of getting off those blocks and then getting there and
making it. And the thing with Jacobs and these backs,

(31:03):
you know, you stop these guys at the line of scrimmature,
behind the line of scrimmage, you're gonna have a lot
of negative plays, or you're gonna have plays for no gain.
I don't know if the Packers could physically line up
and beat you up the way that that that you're
gonna have to Dallas is doing a really good job
up front with the with the inside guys, with their
run techniques, with their fits, and not allowing teams to

(31:25):
have a lot of success. If you lucked with the Bears.
That where the Bears had some success was that long
nineteen play drive. All of a sudden it started running
the ball. They wore Dallas down. I think that's I
don't know if the if the Packers could be committed enough.
Like I said, throwing the ball against the Cowboys is
the best is the best avenue for attack running the
ball If you're telling me that Dallas is only giving

(31:47):
up and when when with Clark on the field, they're
giving up three yards of carry. No, I'm not running
the ball when I know I could get nine yards
a shot throwing against Digs or somebody else in the
back end. That's that's where this game is going to hinge.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
All right, let's take our final break. We'll come back.
I want to talk about a position on the defense
that we haven't spent as much time, which is the
linebacker position. Cowboys picked up two free agents, Jack Sanborn
and Kenneth Murray this offseason. How have they played. We'll
talk about that when we come back. This is Dallas

Speaker 2 (34:51):
Welcome Back. Final segment of the Break Life in the
SWBC Mortgage studios at the Star. Let's talk about this
Dallas defense and I want to I want to target
in on the linebacker position. Cowboys this offseason they decided,
y'all silly. They decided that they were going to go
out and get a little more aggressive than they typically

(35:13):
are in free agency, particularly at the linebacker position. They
bring in Jack Sanborn and Kenneth Murray. Let's start first
with those two guys. How have they performed? And I
want you to give it a good three to sixty view,
not just what they've done in past defense, because I
think I know what you're going to say there, but
as run defenders as well. How good have they been
or not here in these first three weeks.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
We can start with Murray and then we'll go to Sanborne.
I say so, Murray, he either sees it really well,
or he doesn't see it at all. I think he
relies more on feel. I think sometimes he'll get caught gambling,
just reading whatever's in front of or reading whatever's behind him.
But he can get downhill very fast, and I think
he could be he could be violent once he gets there.

(35:55):
It's just that the timing it up when it gets
there and the gap fits that's really given him give
him issues. He had a really good Week two versus
the Giants, and I think I don't know what what
was the jump from week one? His Week one was terrible,
Week two very very good. Week three was you know
here there, but just Kennan Murray right now. He's not

(36:16):
the worst of the guys you have, but I think
you could benefit from better play there.

Speaker 8 (36:23):
Yeah, definitely, I expected a lot more when we thought
of when we talked about his acquisition, acquisition, aquisition, sure,
thank you, thank you, than when they brought when they
brought him in that we discussed it here on the show.
I really thought he was going to be a more

(36:45):
impactful player. But then I go back to when you
look at everything as a whole, you see that it's
not just one player.

Speaker 7 (36:54):
Struggling. So that's where I fall back in it.

Speaker 8 (36:58):
I think he could do better, and some of those
mistakes that he has been making, it makes me question, is.

Speaker 16 (37:05):
It just the collectiveness of the voice that you're hearing
and following and all these things, because in my head,
it just doesn't make sense that as a collective everyone
seems to be struggling currently.

Speaker 8 (37:20):
And then I know we're going to talk about Sanborn.
This is bad on my part with him. I keep
thinking he's a rookie. Like in my head when I
think of him, I think of him as someone who's
this is the first year here, and I say, well,
he's not doing that bad, and then I remember, wait,
he's a veteran.

Speaker 7 (37:39):
He has been what is it four years or five
something like that.

Speaker 8 (37:45):
While so it's just my evaluation on him varies because
for some reason, I don't know what it is with him.
My brain defaults into thinking he's a rookie when he
is definitely not. And sometimes I try to give him
grace that sense, but then I remember, he should be
performing so much better and contributing so much more to

(38:07):
this defense, and they're not.

Speaker 7 (38:09):
They're not. And we keep thinking and Jerry.

Speaker 8 (38:12):
Jones talked about this on the fan a few weeks
ago of like, well, we got help on the way,
who's the help? Overshown he's coming back, But then you're
counting on that way down in the season and you're
counting on him. He did recover very well when he
came back from that previous injury, but again, you cannot
count and depend on how a player is going to

(38:32):
come back from an injury and say they're gonna come
be the savior on the defense.

Speaker 7 (38:37):
It's just not the right way to go.

Speaker 8 (38:40):
So what do you do at the linebacker position with
the guys that you currently have on the.

Speaker 6 (38:45):
Miss Kendricks, missah, I miss I missed that ability. I
love them, the downhill ability, the ability to finish. I mean,
you know, Kendricks was not going to guess, and you're right,
I think that happens. You know, we've talked about this.
There was a play that they swift ran to the
outside and Fatch and I broke this play down on

(39:06):
our our podcast. Is that Sam Born is running to
the edge and then he goes right instead of staying
wider to make the play. He takes an angle right
into the blocker and you're like going, wait a minute,
the balls going to the outside. So there's some times
where these these two linebackers have read things correctly and
then other times where they just look like it's like whoa,

(39:29):
it's happening really really fast. And they are two veteran guys.
It shouldn't be that problem.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
With a limited action. How do you think Dmoon, Clark
and Mari Slia if I.

Speaker 3 (39:37):
Have performed, Clark's just kind of been blending in with
the rest of them. Clark is clearly more athletic, but
Clark would get lost as well. So maybe it's just
a do you put him at a different spot. You know,
he's mostly like that that third guy, like that Sam
guy that rotates in and out. Maybe if he's the wheel,
he's a little bit closer. Maybe the angle of it

(39:57):
kind of helps him because he's closer to the action.
I'm not sure if that'll work for him. Marist not
playing as much, but you know, one of the bigger
runs that was giving up was kind of him not
holding the edge, go wide, getting a feel, you know.
So it the linebackers that you have right now, they're
not great. I think it's very odd. I've never been

(40:19):
in this situation before. Your D line was so good
that the run defense versus runs. There's people saying, well,
the run defense is good because they're they're throwing no
versus actual design runs. Your defense is stopping it, and
Kenner Clark is a huge part of that, you know
what I mean. So maybe you have a little bit
of room to make changes at linebacker as opposed to

(40:41):
just trying to blow the whole thing up. I asked
Brian this earlier. I would love to see what the
rookie does, James. I would love to just see him.
He may get lost, but everybody else getting lost. At
least he's athletic. At least he can fly around and
run around a little bit. So and he's developing, I
said on social media. I said it here and you
know me and people been fussing about the online. I
would take Donovan Wilson because what you got to lose.

(41:03):
I would take Donovan Wilson away from one hut and
I put him right there will linebacker and he's he's smaller,
but you have a D line that con mitigate nonsense
ed ed linebacker. I would let him use his instincts
and his and his violence and his natural run fit stuff.
I would let him go down there and lineup at
will see what happens.

Speaker 8 (41:22):
Brian, where is that LSU linebacker that you had in
the Monk Clark.

Speaker 3 (41:30):
We all thought he.

Speaker 6 (41:31):
Was gonna be up physically in l SHU. Yeah, he
had just he had a really good training camp. Yeah,
they are struggling. It's so strange how we went into
training camp kind of feeling like the linebackers are going
to be fine, the defensive tackles are going to be awful,
and the secondary is can be fine. It's it's this,
this thing is totally flipped to where your defensive tackles

(41:54):
clearly are the strength of the defense, your safeties in
your corners have really, really, really struggled, and your linebackers
are probably the weakest link of your group. It is
it is that that's the recipe for bad defense overall. Well,
it really is.

Speaker 8 (42:09):
That's the frustrating part because I remember when we were
we would do this show with David Hellman on the show,
and we would talk about the moon Clark and him
coming into with the team, recovering and the expect expectations
around him as a linebacker, and it's something that got
you very, very excited, and then we're sitting here years

(42:29):
out and you're still again waits. It's hard to pint
out one player when everybody else is playing bad. But
at the same time, you would think that individually there's
something that you can bring to the game, uh, based
on your talent, your sole talent as a player. And
with him, it's like I'm still waiting for that breakthrough

(42:52):
to happen, Like I haven't given given hope, like lost
hope with him. Yeah, but we're still waiting for that
breakthrough moment.

Speaker 6 (42:59):
You know, it's funny, I'm going to say this, maybe
if you play Mrs Leafel, he'll make the same mistakes
because there's times when Marsleyfel, even the small plays he
does play, there are times like fox mentionins he's out
of position and that over aggressive and so so you know,
if you play him forty to fifty snaps, is he
going to make five or six plays? We were going, WHOA,

(43:20):
we can't have that this group overall, man, that needs
to be a total rehaul or they need overshown to
come back as quickly as possible.

Speaker 5 (43:28):
That's big.

Speaker 3 (43:28):
I would rather be fast with mental lapses right then,
I see it perfectly, and I just can't get.

Speaker 6 (43:35):
And they can't get there. Yeah, they're struggling with that
right now.

Speaker 2 (43:37):
Real quick for me. In the show, I actually did
get a message on I think it was on Twitter
from NC and he asked the question, did the DBS
look this bad in training camp? And I think, Brian,
you just hit it. I think we all saw something
very different in training As a matter of fact, there
were a lot of days in training camp where his
defense looked really good. They were taking the ball away,
they were stripping balls, they were making interceptions, they were

(43:58):
getting they looked really good during certain parts of training camp,
even better than the offense. So there was nothing that
we saw, nothing that I saw speak for myself, nothing
I saw during training camp that suggested this defense would
be this bad. I mean, even if I thought they'd
have some games where they might be outmatched because they
were playing really good offenses, there was nothing whatsoever that

(44:20):
you could see in training camp that made you think
that they would have this type of struggle. Which also
is another reason why when I talk about training camp,
I talk about training camp is just training camp. There's
a lot of different It's a lot different. Sometimes when
you get in the regular season and it's real, real
action going on out there, it can change things a
little bit. But but there was never any indication I saw.

(44:41):
I don't think anyone really saw about this defense having
these kinds of struggles back in Oxtar.

Speaker 3 (44:46):
I think in camp they were trying stuff, and part
of trying stuff was some press man, some blisses, you know,
some things like that, and I think it looked good.
I was praising Kyrie Elm. Yeah, even straight. And then
you get to you get to the game and that
stat Brian bros. That'll do it to you.

Speaker 5 (45:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:03):
All right, we appreciate you, guys, Jonges. We'll be back tomorrow.
We'll go to the other side of the ball. We'll
talk about these Green Bay defense.

Speaker 13 (45:08):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (45:09):
One of the questions I'll have for these guys is
really around Michael Parsons. We talk about him on the
outside and what he can do these tackles. I wonder
in the middle too. You got some new bodies in there,
and we know Michael moves around. That's something that I
think to keep keep an eye on. We'll talk about
that tomorrow. Till then, for Vachi Lombardi. Brian brought us
inn Abugarcia. I'm Derek Kielton. This has been The Break
live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com Radio.
