Speaker 4 (00:16):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (00:16):
Are you ready for a break?
Speaker 6 (00:18):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Ready for a break?
Speaker 5 (00:21):
Yeah, and so much for that.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
It's time for The Break on Dallas Cowboys dot Com
with Mbar Garcia, Brian brought Us, Votch Lombardi, and Derek Eagleton.
Speaker 5 (00:38):
I'm on the Ones and Tuesday Straight.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
It's Thursday, November twentieth, twenty twenty five, Season twenty one,
episode number eighty one. Welcome to the latest edition of
The Break. We are live from the SWBC Mortgage studios
at the Star were presented by LGLG as the world's
number one OLED TV brand for eleven years in counting
see why at LG dot Com, Fort slash O lead EVO.
All right, they were talking Cowboys versus Eagles, specifically Cowboys
(01:03):
offense versus Eagles defense. We will get into that probably
around the second segment. We'll see how long this first
segment takes and what the little topics I have for
you guys. We're going to start first with injuries and
Cowboys injury report. Although it looks lengthy most of the
players were limited. Now, there was a walk through yesterday,
(01:23):
so it's kind of a little bit. We'll see today
what it looks like in a normal practice, what their
designations are. But Dak Prescott popped up on the injury
report with a hip limited. What do we know about
that because that's obviously the most important of any injury
on the scene right now.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Yeah, I think it's okay there. I think that he
just got banged up in that game. They took a
couple of different shots moving around there in the pocket
and stuff like that. But it seems like that everything
gets kind of a weird and tear situation there, So
it shouldn't be anything too pressing right now for your quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
They had two defensive ends that ended up on the
injury report, both limited. Jadavian Clowney with a shoulder slash
neck something I'm very familiar with, and uh Dante Folo
with a shoulder anything. We're hearing about those two and
in the severity.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
Of those no, it was nothing that was was gonna
cost them any any playing time, though it was Again,
they're getting to the point in time and this is
where it's gonna be a little bit rough for some
of these guys because you got the three games in
like eleven days in a short period of times. So
if they can grab a day or two for uh
to get a guy you know, not not some practice time,
(02:28):
maybe a little rest that's gonna help. But there was
nothing that I got that was any pressing on those
as well.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
One thing interesting, Tyler Smith is on the injury well
he's been on the injury report with this knee. Yeah,
did you guys notice as you watched in this last
game after having the buye and some time to kind
of let that thing rest a little bit, did you
see any difference in in kind of how he's moving
by the way he's been battling through this thing and
giving you good reps, but you know, obviously he's having
(02:54):
to battle through some injuries. What did you see in
this last game from him?
Speaker 6 (02:57):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (02:57):
You know, thinking about Tyler is that he's either healthy Tyler,
or he's like looking a little stiff, you know what
I mean, Like like there's not like he's in the
middle the whole game, like he's still who he is.
He still can you know, get some get some big
movement and and push. It's just that I think some
of the movement things are kind of living them a
little bit. And that's that's been that's been a story
about the Cowboys past rush for the past blocking unit,
(03:19):
his movement, slams, gapy change kind of gets you a little.
But him in particularly, he ain't turning all that well.
But if he's moving forward, he's fine.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
He's yeah, I just got it.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
And if you look at the if you look at
the Max Crosby sack fumbles thing, he was trying to
block too, and they just they have not been as
coordinated as they needed to be on these gap exchange
like Vas talking about. And you could tell that as
he's trying to block, he gets turned and he can't
pivot back to get Max Crosby coming on the loop.
(03:50):
And you know, it's it's gonna be this way the
whole the whole year, I mean, the remainder of the season.
It's it's something that's just gonna be to be rest
and he's going to battle through these things. But there
are going to be times where he's probably not going
to be as mobile as we've seen him in the past.
And it's just that that's just the that's the trade
(04:12):
off of what he's dealing with right now.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah, Solomon Thomas missed the game last week with the
calf injury. He was limited in practice yesterday. What are
we hearing from him?
Speaker 4 (04:22):
Yeah, the calf injury stuff is always a kind of
a difficult one to deal with, and so that's where
I feel like though that maybe again with these games
being so close together, we'll see they're going to try
and monitor the situation and see what happens as they
get closer to game time. But these calf injuries are
not something that you just kind of say, Okay, well
(04:46):
it's it's a spraying thumb and he's back, or jam
finger and he's back. It's it's something that he's honestly
going to have to work through. They got to be
very careful though, if as he goes along during the week,
if he's not out there doing more than I don't
think he'll play. But we'll see as we get here
into into Friday.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
All right, So I wasn't here yesterday, so I'm not
quite sure. If y'all talked about Perry and Winfrey from
the standpoint of he certainly is now full participant in practice,
what happens when he's healthy, and they're ready to put
him back out there or put him out there? Who
is the odd man out? Because I assume there's going
to be an odd man out right.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
First of all, sir, you know, do you know who
you left in charge yesterday?
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (05:27):
You know. The funny thing before the show and I
thought of this. I didn't tell you because I'm like,
why are you being asking me? Because I know you're
gonna do whatever you want anyways, But he asked me.
He asked me before the show. He's like, Hey, what
did y'all talk about to make sure we don't hit
the main thing? I said, we focus on Eagles offense
versus Cowboy's defense, and we talked about the moon Clark.
Speaker 9 (05:51):
Yeah, and perry on Winsday. Yeah. Literally only gave you
three things and he was one of them. That's it.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
But if you want to talk it again, I mean,
we can run it back for the people that you don't.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
You don't have to run. That's why I was asking
for my own, my.
Speaker 9 (06:05):
Own topic on the list.
Speaker 7 (06:07):
I think I think Perryon is going to be Solomon
Thomas till Solomon Thomas gets back.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
And whatever was when Solomon Thomas gets back because he
is limited.
Speaker 7 (06:14):
Now, only the Lord knows. That's up to them people
over there. But what you do, I think I need
to see what Perryon looks like in a football game
versus the Eagles, and then they'll kind of give me
an idea. I honestly think that your tackle group is
much better than your edge group as a whole. So
if I'm only looking at having a couple of edges, now,
I'm looking for places to put tackles, because all my
tackles are kind of built differently. Like Toya is a
(06:35):
guy that's going to be head up over the center
and maybe shading an eight gap, but he won't be
anywhere else. I think what you have in these these
birsty guys like Solomon, like Perryon, or like Osa is
that they can bump out to the four eye a
little bit, head up over the tackle, even the outside
shoulder some time at the five. So I think you
have a little more versatility with those guys to kind
of move them around. So if I'm whoever in charge
(06:56):
of defense or whatever, I would look at Perry and like,
hey man, let's see how you look out there, just
to see if we can get a little bigger out there.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Am I did I not see this? I thought I
remember it back during training camp there were some times
that we saw him, or maybe preseason we saw him outside.
Is that that was true?
Speaker 7 (07:12):
That's part of what he does since since he was
in college, since he was a Brown Jet, He's been
a guy that plays anywhere from zero to the five.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (07:19):
So I can see Solomon doing this, just like like
there's visual evidence of Osa doing it last the Raiders,
So I can see. I can definitely see Winfrey doing
something like that.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
All right, let's flip up real quick before we take
our first break, talk about some of the injuries for
the Eagles. Some significant interesting injuries. Lane Johnson, I suspect
he's going to be out this game. The way they
were talking is he's out, But I don't know if
that's been declared, you know, formally, I.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Would say he was probably going to be out.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Yeah, he has a foot injury. Cam Jurgens, their center,
also did not practice to day with a concussion. And
then Jalen Phillips, the defensive end that they just picked up,
had a big game for them last weekend. He was
limited with a shoulder how much. Let's first talk about
the offensive line not having Lane Johnson. How much of
a big deal is that for the Philadelphia Eagle.
Speaker 7 (08:04):
It's a massive You know, Lane is a dude, Lane
as old as he is, steady, good, solid, nothing bad
happens to him. But I think you really have an
opportunity to go take care old Fredd Johnson over. I've
been saying their name for three weeks to see if
y'all picking up on it. But Freddie ain't ain't Lane Johnson.
So I think you have a great opportunity to take
advantage of everybody from the left guard to the right
(08:25):
tackle in that way. What I kind of noticed from
the Cowboys to past two games is that Donovan and
Clowney don't change sides all that much. So what happened
is Clowny be over the right tackle the left side
of the defense, and Donvinezeraku would be on the.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Other side over the left tackle.
Speaker 7 (08:38):
Hey man, any other situation, that's cool, But at flues
you're looking, hey man, find a scrub, Dog's that's that's
kind of what we call on the internet, and Cowboy
Lane find a scrub.
Speaker 9 (08:48):
You don't.
Speaker 7 (08:49):
You don't have to just put Donvin Ezzaraku over my
lot of the whole game. That may not be a
plus matchup for us. Take your best pass rushers with
your Donvin Ezzeraku and James Houston and put them over
old Freddie. See if fred he can keep up, and
if Freddy plays a good game, then cool. That's good
on Freddy. But I'm at least going to try. I'm
gonna look at this Eagles offensive line. I'm gonna find
out what everybody's bad at. Dickerson very strong, but he's
(09:10):
not turning very well right now. I'm gonna get my
my bursty tackles. I'm gonna make Dickinson turn a little bit.
I'm gonna run stunts and gaping changes over there, and
I'm gonna do that. Tyler Steen and Brett Toff the
backup center. Toff and Tyler Steen the right guard there.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
They not all that powerful, boy.
Speaker 7 (09:25):
I got two strong people push and Quinn Williams and
Kenny Clark. So I'm gonna be playing matchup across the
whole line if it is me. But that ain't me, Flus.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
The hope you list the metrics say that he does
is the metrics say this is a different offensive line
when without the offense is different without Lane Johnson playing.
You know, when you look at yards per attempt when
it comes to running the football, when it comes to
throwing the football, Lots is absolutely right. They're going to
be if if, in fact Cam Jurgens doesn't play at center,
they're going to be compromised at center. They just do
(09:55):
not run the ball very well without him being in there.
They really haven't run it all that well. I think
all these carries this back is taken through last year
and through their Super Bowl run. Congratulations they did get
a Super Bowl win. But I think it's affecting how
they're playing offense right now. But they are compromised in
probably three different spots along this offensive line. The strength
(10:16):
of this Dallas defense is clearly it's defensive line. Now
with the players that they've added and some of the
bodies coming back, you know, we'll see again. We mentioned
about Solomon Thomas. You know, I was just gonna I
reached out while we were talking. Look for him to
practice today, look for him to practice tomorrow with the
expectation of him playing.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
So that's kind of.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
Where they're at right now on that one. So hopefully
I say he would be a great addition. Then it
becomes about who will be in an active for this
game coming up. But the strength of the Cowboys right
now is that interior of their defensive line going against
a compromised Philadelphia Eagle offensive line.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
That's that's pretty impressive. I look at how that defensive
interior played in this last game. You add Solomon Thomas Man,
You're looking really good. You should be able to you
should be able to match up with almost any offensive line
in the National Football League with that kind of defensive front.
We will see how much that affects the back in
because I do think there were some effects that related
to what was happening up front and what we saw
(11:15):
on the back end this last game as well. We'll
take our first break when we come back and dive
into the Philadelphia defense versus the Cowboys offense. I want
to start with you guys telling me a little bit
about what you saw in the first get matchup, particularly
with the Philadelphia defense, and how it matched up with
the Cowboys offense, and what may have changed since that time.
We'll be back Dallas Cowboys dot Com Radio.

This segment was brought to you about blockchain dot com.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Yeah, you need to do your job.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
All right, Let's talk about the Eagles from week one.
Tell me what you remember about that game from the
standpoint of the Philadelphia defense. Uh, that that may have
changed going into this game.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
It was.
Speaker 7 (14:51):
But the truth, you know what I'm saying it was,
it was it was ten weeks ago. But if I
remember correctly, mister Eagleton, that's why I get paid the
big bucks. That is that is I remember Dori Jackson
being a bit of a target. In my personal opinion,
he still won.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
I think.
Speaker 7 (15:07):
I think in the past couple of weeks, I think
he's done better versus, you know, the Lions and Green
Bay Packers. I watched those those games in particularly the
last two games, and they're the the talent playoff type
teams that they're against or whatever, So just kind of
see how it looks there. But Dory Jackson played decently
versus those guys. I recall early in the Cowboys administration,
you know, or just this this year, that Pickens was
(15:28):
like the go get the p I guy, but he
didn't really have a big role.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
Besides that, I.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
Think he wasn't what it is now.
Speaker 7 (15:33):
Dak and Pickens definitely grew over time. They didn't have
that kind of relationship week one.
Speaker 5 (15:39):
And then also.
Speaker 7 (15:42):
Terry and Arnold didn't travel with Lamb at first, and
Lamb got like one hundred and fifteen something receiving yards
in the first half or something like that.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
Then Mitchell Mitchell, Mitchell, Mitchell was Arnold from the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 7 (15:52):
They are the same people, quinnin Mitchell Mitchell, he didn't
travel with Lamb at first, then he eventually traveled with
with lamp I think if you pull that move, then
you will just go to the other guy. Now, absolutely,
because now Dak is kind of, you know, lined up
with both of us. Last time, Jalen Carter didn't play
because because of a pre game little I don't want
(16:13):
to say because it sounds so crazy just saying it.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
Man, man, seems like it's a natural thing that's happened
in the NFL. That's what people just spitting grown men
spending on other grown men.
Speaker 5 (16:21):
They should they should take helmets off in like box.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
And well, did you hear do you hear what Mike
Tomlin said?
Speaker 5 (16:26):
What you said?
Speaker 3 (16:26):
He said?
Speaker 2 (16:27):
He said, The advice I have is you spit on
another man, Hey, do whatever nature tells you to do,
right exactly. And I'm like, I agree with you. At
that point, it's like.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
We're Johnson agree with him.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
We're just two.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
Grown men and now we got to handle up. I
guess ain't got to be that a little corner whatever
it is.
Speaker 7 (16:44):
Jalen Carter didn't play for you last time, but he's
going to be around this time. On that same talk,
and I think the Cowboys as an offensive line has
jailed a bit more and kind of figured out an identity.
And the Cowboys identity as an offensive line now is
we're really physical running the football across the board from
Tyler Guyton all the way to Terren Steel. It's gonna
be issues past blocking here. There gap a change's turning
(17:05):
things like that, But at least the Cowboys have an
identity now into where a week one they really did not.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
And I think the Cowboys police.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Oh well, let me ask you this question when you
say that, I look at this, this defensive front, and
this is also a big, powerful, aggressive, violent defensive front.
How does Dallas match up in that way? I know
they want to be aggressive and they want to be violent,
they want to be able to get a push, but
does that work against this defensive front.
Speaker 7 (17:28):
Luckily for US, Cooper BB's playing, Tyler Brook is playing,
and big Tyler's playing. Honestly, I think that the Broncos
front is tougher to push around than this front. Like
you've seen tougher fronts. Carolina got a tougher front to
kind of push around. I think if you just kind
of deal with Jalen Carter and there are some people
that will, you know, debate him in the run game type, yo,
(17:49):
if you deal with Jalen Carter, you'll be fine. Jalen Phillips,
the edge that they just brought up is a much
better run defender than Nolan Smith was in Week one.
So now Aaron's got a response. Terrence and whoever tight
ends over there got a responsibility for him. But guiding
versus Jale's hunt, that's I think that's a good match
up for us, our guys versus Jordan Davis. Yeah, Jordan
(18:11):
gets going versus his other teams, but just versus if
we're powerful moving forward, He's not that big of an issue.
It's more so Jalen Carter's quickness that the Cowboys have
to deal with, and if they can deal with that,
I'm just running football all day. Plus, the linebacker situation
is different. Dean's playing really good football. Trotter was a
rookie week once. You can kind of take advantage of
him a little bit but go get Dean.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Yeah, you're right about the linebackers. Campbell jo Hot Campbell
can start and it was his first first start. But
everything you walked us through is absolutely right that the
linebackers spot is a different spot. You'll have to deal
with the defensive tackles. Phillips has been a really good.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
Addition for them.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
He has he He is a guy that and I
know when well, I could say when we talked about
him on other platforms, because we didn't talk about him
on this platform. We kind of thought about guys that
were at other teams, but we had in mind that
this guy would probably be available, and Dallas was a
team that maybe was thinking about it. So I did
some film work on him when he was playing with
the Dolphins, and he is a very good player and
(19:11):
he gives them an element that they they've really been
kind of struggling with right now. There have been times
where they've, you know, you thought, man, this is a
team it's really good at rushing the pastor they like
to rush four. That's kind of their that's their mo.
They're not a big blitzing team, so they want to
try and get you with four and then play the
coverage on the back end. But Phillips has done a
(19:31):
really good job of playing the run and then also
though rushing the passer and giving him that element as
that complete edge.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Do you expect to see him mainly on the side
of steel or on steel steel and so that matchup.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
Yeah, and VOTs this morning when we were doing our
show beforehand, was talking about do you treat him like
you would Max Crosby, you know, with the way when
we came in here on Tuesday and we're kind of
breaking things down, we were saying, seven different guys went
after Max Crosby at football game, and so maybe some
of the same things you're thinking about. Just don't turn
(20:07):
this into eighty percent of Terrence Steele having to take
care of Phillips and this football game. You know, your
pull your peelback game was good. You know, your chip
game was good, your spacing game was good. If you're
going to play some of these better edges, I think
Dallas has got a pretty good plan at how they
want to handle these guys. Like all the things they
(20:28):
just walked you through, I think that we could say
the same thing about Phillips here.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
Do you worry about doing something like that at the
expense of Like again, when you played Las Vegas, you
didn't have a Jalen Carter sitting in the middle. Yeah,
so you could pay a lot of attention to Max Crosby.
Right in this instance, you still got Jalen Carter to
deal with as well. Can you afford to devote that
much of that many resources to trying to deal with
Jayalen Car I mean to dealing with with Jalen Phillips.
Speaker 7 (20:53):
So what they'll do is one way that they deal
with Crosby is that they'll down block Bbie Pull Smith
Smith will go and deal with you know, Max or whoever,
you know, how they deal with it. I wouldn't leave
BB one on one to kind of deal with Carter
in that way, depending on what gap he's in. If
Carter is if he happens to be an A gap,
(21:15):
that's the easier reach for BB because it's right there.
Speaker 5 (21:18):
I wouldn't mind it.
Speaker 7 (21:19):
Then if Carter is in B gap or further on
the on the tackle, I wouldn't want b B to
reach all the way to that four.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
So maybe because he also he penetrates really well and
he's quick when I'm like yeah.
Speaker 7 (21:30):
Also also too I mean, I mean, I know we
having this conversation, we're analyzing or whatever. Jalen Phillips is great,
but he max cries.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Right, but he is one of their better past runs.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
It's one of their better passes.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
And to your point about the pulling stuff, I think
that you want to think about it from the Smith peel,
then you do Booker peel because Smith is space better
in my opinion than Booker having to do stuff if
you block down and then try and kick out. But
I think you could throw a lot of different looks
at these guys. They've proven that they can. They just
(22:02):
just don't let these edge rushers get an idea that okay,
it's one on one, one on one, one on one.
Make them have to deal with a lot of different
blocks in these games. It helps you in the long
run with the with your past protection.
Speaker 7 (22:15):
If you want an example of that, look at how
the Cowboys dealt with the Giants. And the Giants may
not be a great team or whatever, but they got
Dex Lawrence in the middle, and they got two great
pass ruds on the outside, and they kind of did
what they had to do to deal with Lawrence. And
they live with the idea that it could be dangers
on the outside, but Dak is fine with that. Dak
is fine stepping up and moving around. Just don't let
Dexter Lawrence get crazy on you, and we can deal
(22:37):
with maybe Burns hitting us a little bit, or maybe
a pressure from the outside or whatnot. I think the
same thing kind of applies here. I would trust Terrence
and Jake Terrens and schooling Mega Terrence and maybe running
back Chip to deal with Phillips in the right side
of the offense or whatnot. But I really want to
make sure Jalen Carter doesn't break the game for us.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
As we watched that game in Week one, it seemed
like the offense, really both offenses were just on a
roll before that rain delay. Do you expect that to
continue in this game where Dallas is a wile just
kind of move the ball at will like they did
in that game, or do you think Jalen Carter and
Jalen Phillips make that much of a difference to where
this is a much more methodical game. Maybe Dallas has
to play it a little differently.
Speaker 7 (23:17):
I think when the Cowboys want to run the football,
it take a lot of people to stop them for
running football. And I think now this current configuration of
the Cowboys, if we're allowed to run the football on you,
then the passing game is going to be there. The
only time the Cowboys have been stopped is when you
get the Cowboys out of the run game, and that
could be game flow the other team scoring, or Shoty
(23:39):
got mad like like he'll tell us just start throwing
football and just just got away from the run. If
the Cowboys score early, and I think this is going
to be important.
Speaker 5 (23:50):
For both sides of the ball.
Speaker 7 (23:52):
The Cowboys scoring early keeps the game flowing control, you
know what I'm saying. So even if the Eagles do score,
all right, it's even game that we still get to
run the football. If you fall behind, the run game
goes away, and then now they can put extra people
on pigs and stuff like that. What you ultimately want
is for them to bring another guy down into the box.
That's the that's the that's the best way to handle it.
(24:13):
Dean and Bond, They're they're solid. But I got faith
that the Cowboys can climb to the to the next
level and deal with those guys. If you could do
that and just let pickings do his thing because Dak
and Pickings exists now, it didn't exist in week won
like that, Piggins ran one route, go ball. Now we
got slamps, we got hitches, we got some crosses, we
got outs now, and then I would imagine that they'll
(24:33):
do something to take Piggings away because they are they
are very reactive defense. When they adjust, then I think
you get a big CD game in the second half.
Speaker 8 (24:40):
If I had to guess question, random question, so that
means question, I got that. Are you going for it now?
The defense of the Cows currently have. Are you guys
going for it on fourth down?
Speaker 5 (24:54):
Man, I'm not trusting the people.
Speaker 9 (24:55):
Man, I need a couple more situation presents.
Speaker 4 (24:59):
Intu were really bad and fourth down there they were
giving up a conversion rate of about eighty three percent.
So this group's a little bit different when it comes
to that. I mean this this group can this group
can handle handle that pretty well?
Speaker 3 (25:12):
I think so. I would.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
I would be very mindful of I think it's game flow,
game situation to figure that out, and.
Speaker 7 (25:20):
The other team is going to score forty points until
the Cowboys show me different.
Speaker 5 (25:24):
That's how I feel you.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Got nothing out of that. Vegas game.
Speaker 7 (25:27):
As far as I got plenty of defensive I got plenty.
I think they're great. I think I think, I think
if you I think I think I think if you
dominated in the middle and Quinn Williams allowed everybody to
go home, Yeah, Kenny Clark back home, Man Olsa back home,
I think that's going to be massive. I was me
and Brian broke down some film yesterday. We keep talking
(25:49):
about this podcast. We got talking about me and Brian
broke down film yesterday and we watched over shown in
open space make a decision, yeah, to not take the
cheese because because what they did was the Raiders put
a wide receiver on Logan Wilson and it was gonna
be wide over behind Overshawn. Other linebackers would have took
the cheese and just let Trey run wide open there.
Overshon stayed patient and stayed back to take away trade
(26:11):
with Logan, and then when Gino checked down.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
Overshon, Yeah, I saw that play.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
Yeh.
Speaker 7 (26:16):
I'm like, sir, sir and ma'am sorry, they doing different
things on defense.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Now.
Speaker 7 (26:21):
You just kind of got to show me first, you
know what I mean, you just got because all you've
been doing all year has been getting whooped up on
if the Cowboys holding he was a fifteen points, because
I think that's fair, that's kind of who they are.
Speaker 5 (26:32):
Twenty one fifteen.
Speaker 7 (26:33):
If the Cowboys holding the fifteen to twenty one some points,
now we could talk a little bit about, you know,
being less aggressive or whatever.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
See I think I think to me too, in this
game would be interesting is because of how well Dallas players.
Their run game is, but how will they play off
play action and if you watch Philadelphia and how they
deal with play action, because this is the strength of
Dak Prescott, I.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Mean his ability.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
I was always worried about his ability turn his back
to the defense and then find everybody. But that's not
the case anymore. And the Philadelphia Eagles have really really
struggled on teams that play action almost eighteen yards of
play when it comes to you know, and the way
they've had the coverage and you know, Vic Fangio, they
like to try and keep everything in front and you know,
(27:19):
you know, rally to the ball and play that show look.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
And all that. But you know, the one thing.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
Dallas has is Dallas has that ability to play a
very good play action game. And if Philadelphia is not
going to play well against it. I could see Dallas
run the ball, run the ball, and then all of
a sudden, take a shot. Take a shot, run the ball.
I mean they Dallas could could come in this game
and be very balanced if they want to, I feel,
and if they're going to win the game, I think
(27:44):
they're almost gonna have to. But to your question, but
I don't like I say I think it needs to
be shot.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
He's even admitted it.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
He's conservative to the point, like he hears his dad
in his head. You know, take the points, take the points,
punt it the points upun it. So the Airs, excuse me.
Speaker 3 (28:03):
The Raiders.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
Like I said, the Raiders were a terrible team on
four down, this team's a little bit different. So but
I'll say this though, I think points are going to
be important. Yeah, I just I think you need to
be very mindful of Like if you can kick a
field goal, kick it and then go play defense. Because
Philadelphia hasn't scored a lot of points here in the
last few weeks, so you know, make sure you get points,
(28:25):
play the best defense you can, and just try and
keep scoring points and put a lot of pressure on
Philadelphia's offense.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
All right, Let's take our final break. When we come back,
I want to dive a little deeper into the running
offense and talk a little bit about what they saw,
what you saw from them in the Las Vegas game,
and how much is Malik Davis going to factor in
now that they're out of elevations for him? What happens
at this point? Is he a person that they maybe
need to put on the on the active roster and
what does that mean for Jaden Blue. We'll talk about
(28:52):
that all that when we come back. This is Dallas

Speaker 5 (31:51):
I wouldn't let it talked to me like this.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
It did, I talk to him if.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
She worked that crown.
Speaker 9 (31:57):
Well, thank god, you're not in charge here.
Speaker 5 (32:00):
Hey, it is what it is, man.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
I let people beat themselves, all right?
Speaker 5 (32:06):
Is that this show is constructed?
Speaker 11 (32:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (32:11):
Ass are always the tying?
Speaker 2 (32:15):
Sorry? All right, final second's WBC mortgage studios at the start.
Let's talk about the running game. As as you guys
were talking about. This is the Cowboys have throughout this
season been able to impose their will and run the
ball when they're willing to run the ball. Sometimes the
game has gotten away from them. They they weren't be
able to do that, but pretty much they've been able
to run the ball whenever they choose to. That being said,
(32:36):
where do you think right now? What do you think
is the strength of this running game? If you had
to say, okay, these are the kinds of plays that
when they do this, they can rely on this, it's
going to be there because this is what they do.
Speaker 7 (32:46):
Really well, I'm not gonna say Mike McCarthy's name, but
I think that this I think this coaching staff had
a plan to run the football with real intention if
you ask previous administrations is what I would call them.
Speaker 5 (33:00):
We have great beat writers that work here with us,
great media.
Speaker 7 (33:04):
People, journalists and all that, and they say, hey, last administration,
what's up with the run game? And he'll be like, well,
we're gonna fix it. We got the right people to
fix it. We're gonna show up and work hard.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (33:17):
But I feel like they asked Shotty one time, and
they asked Clayton again, and you can tell some of
the answer that they talked about it. Five people kind
of all said in their different interviews, Well, they want
to be intentional, they want to be physical, they want
to move the line scrimage, and they want to do.
Speaker 5 (33:28):
Play action off of that.
Speaker 7 (33:30):
That's the answer that you know, and the previous administration
don't give you answers like that. So I think what
works is a big pot of soup, which is like, man,
we got great receivers that y'all gotta deal with, we
got physical offensive lineman that y'all gotta deal with. We
got to run it back that's hard to tackle, and
we got a quarterback that it was perfect on play action.
Like what eighteen for eighteen past, a couple of games
(33:50):
on like that, perfect on perfect on play action and
actually connects on deep ball when he does it. I
think all those things come together to make this big
pot of run game. For that's what makes the run
games and that's what makes spect Plus. Like Clayton adams
designs are ridiculous as well. I feel like in previous
administrations they were running some run stuff that I was
(34:10):
running in high school. You know what I'm saying, and
shouts out to Duke Mandwell. I always listened to him
like old line evolves, you know what I'm saying, Like
every four or five years AT evolved.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
So some of the.
Speaker 7 (34:18):
Stuff that Brian did or some stuff that Nate Newton
did as offensive linemen are not things that I'm doing
which are totally different than the current offensive line is doing.
And run schemes the same way. I never would have
thought on a pass and play a guard would pull
wide just to and we ain't even fake encountering that.
I just want you pulling wi just to do it.
So I think Clayton is just doing doing a bunch
of different creative things that you know, previous administrations would
(34:41):
be kind of old school.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
You know, I think they got better at blocking point
of attack, blocking tight end as facts too.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
I think all of a sudden, if you you know, was.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
That personnel was that was that different personnel and figured
out better.
Speaker 4 (34:53):
Span Ford went from Minnesota, boy, this is one of
the big better blocking tight ends and the aft. All
of a sudden, you're like, okay, first year, where's this
big blocking tight end guy?
Speaker 3 (35:06):
It took him a year. He came in here and
he kind of figured it out.
Speaker 10 (35:09):
Man.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
I guarantee pro personnel guys around the league. When you
ask him, like who are the better blocking tight ends
in the league, span Ford's name gets thrown out there
quite a bit because he's developed that kind of I'll
tell you the biggest thing is you've committed to running
the football. You actually to watch his point. You've committed
to running the ball. There's no more lip service to
(35:31):
it anymore. It is actual run the football. And you've
got the line, you've got the point of attack tight end,
and you've got a back you know, and you've got
and and and you've got play callers that are willing
to do it and do it and do it and
do it. And so that to me was like you say,
talking about the personnel, but the commitment to actually making
(35:53):
it work I think is the biggest difference in this
team right now.
Speaker 9 (35:58):
Yeah, what was the Ridge, no question, I'm again, I
am playing.
Speaker 8 (36:04):
I am no, No, I was listening. I mean great
points great because when you go back to McCarthy and
we talked about it, people are saying you have no
people are saying in the chatt it had been a
while since you mentioned McCarthy and had But going back
to y'all's point, it wasn't until half of the year
(36:27):
when we started seeing.
Speaker 9 (36:30):
Oh my god, what's his name running running back? William
No I had Poller in my head. Uh no, they.
Speaker 5 (36:47):
That was mad as hell, but I'm sorry about.
Speaker 8 (36:49):
But it wasn't until half of the season when they
started to commit to the run and he finally started working,
and we're like, whoa, what the heck? Like, we're not crazy,
We've been talking about it since the beginning of the year.
Why isn't it going? It just wasn't. It was lack
of commitment to it. And looking out now even this year,
the passing game has not suffered from it.
Speaker 9 (37:10):
They're both working for.
Speaker 8 (37:11):
Them, so it's not like just because you decide to
commit to the run, it's gonna take away from the
passing game.
Speaker 9 (37:16):
So again, just to clear you're seeing it.
Speaker 8 (37:21):
You're seeing it this year that you can benefit from
both things at once and they're both doing really, really good.
Speaker 7 (37:28):
Remember that one time Mia mccarthur got mad at us
asking about the run game and he made Killer run
the ball like nine times in a row, like here.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
Damn, remember that?
Speaker 9 (37:36):
Remember that?
Speaker 7 (37:37):
I was so mad. I'm like, bro, you just run
the ball just to run the ball and embar. Fantastic point.
By the way, the passing game used to suffer when
the Cowboys trying to force the run. Please, but now
now everything is everything is locked up with each other.
Speaker 5 (37:50):
So fantastic point.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
So where does Relie Davis fit at this point? He
is out of elevations. He is the guy that was
the primary backup running back last week. What do you think?
What do you think they do at this point?
Speaker 3 (37:59):
We're telling what they're gonna do, me telling tell them
what they're gonna do.
Speaker 5 (38:04):
I think they're gonna cut somebody and put him on
the team.
Speaker 8 (38:06):
Bro.
Speaker 7 (38:06):
I think Derek, I think he's earned his way on
his roster in I talked to some people.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
You know, you gotta you gotta, you gotta gold phone out.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
It ain't that way.
Speaker 9 (38:17):
Did you conform with multiple sources?
Speaker 5 (38:20):
Okay, of course my phone's gold plated.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
It ain't.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
You haven't gotten the goal, you just go play.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
I'm going with the gold.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
Yeah, Okay.
Speaker 7 (38:27):
I think there's gonna be a roster move and Malie
Davis is going to be one of us. He's gonna
be on the team. I think he's one of us.
I think he's gonna be RB two.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
I think I think Watch is absolutely right.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
I think I think Davis is going to become a
priority here and they're gonna have to figure out a
way to do it.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
And we'll see.
Speaker 2 (38:45):
What does that What does that say about Jayden Blue?
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Though?
Speaker 2 (38:48):
I think that's the part where everybody was expecting he's
gonna to very least be your number two running back.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
This is where I need to correct myself, okay, because
I felt like that Jayden Blue was probably not carrying
it from the classroom to the practice field to the
game field.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
That's just not the case at all.
Speaker 4 (39:08):
There needs to be a level of maturity, There needs
to be a level of preparation and care and go
into you be a pro, be a pro. There's a
lot of things about people ask us about film AFA
all the time. There's a different element there. There's a
different element there. But they're going to, as Vach told you,
(39:31):
and I think he's absolutely right, they're going to make
a move at one of these probably one of these
defensive positions, and then get him on. I think Davis
is the priority. But like I say, with Blue, I
was questioned whether he was picking things up mentally, and
that's not the case. That's not the problem. It's you
have to go be a.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
Pro and he's.
Speaker 4 (39:52):
Lacking that right now is the biggest problem.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
So that's where you're at.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Well, I will say this wrong that if that is
the case, then I again I applaud uh Shody because
Shody is in that instance he has a standard and
he's making everybody hold true that standard, as he did
with his two wide receivers last week. There's a standard
and you're gonna have to meet the standard. So if
(40:17):
that is true, I certainly love that that the coaches
is setting that standard and forcing people to meet up
to it.
Speaker 7 (40:23):
Honestly, what I you know, just what I personally think
I think it's that same dynamic with Winfrey and maybe Mazi.
Speaker 5 (40:30):
You know what I'm saying, work no more.
Speaker 7 (40:31):
But it's like one dude is like fighting for his
life to do something like, man, I got a shot.
I'm coming from this other football league. I was in
the league, not in the league. I got to give
everything I got and one guy is just kind of
like powdering on the sideline. I think Malik Davis was
called from the crib. Yeah, and he was ready for it.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
And by the way, may not know was gonna get
another shot. Don't he got that call. It's like, oh okay, because.
Speaker 5 (40:54):
He's constantly going to like he's roster gymnastic guy.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
Yeah yeah.
Speaker 7 (40:59):
But when you a dude that's like hungry like that,
it's different from a guy that wears Louis sneakers as
a as or Louis cleats as a fifth round.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
Wrong cleats. But I see your point.
Speaker 5 (41:11):
I want to see you earn your way, mister.
Speaker 7 (41:12):
You know what I'm saying, Like, if C D and
GP going football is like that, Yeah.
Speaker 17 (41:16):
Man, if you the super made fun of online from
those cleats, the gook didn't look But I know that's
that's but that's also if I get a purple white
when you you're not like you're not even really playing
that much and and do that like that's there, you're
going to get some some.
Speaker 9 (41:34):
Of that if you drest.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
No, I'm not saying he did anything wrong, and so
I'm just saying you're going to get some bow back.
That's how the internet is.
Speaker 7 (41:41):
We're gonna look right, because that's that's football. It's always
been football. If you the third string guy, what you
asked for, the nice helmet for, what you're asking for?
What you mean you want a visor? Every level of
football is like that, what you want all this for?
Speaker 5 (41:52):
You know what I mean? You hadn't done you don't
even know the equipment.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
Then look at you kind of funny.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
That's that's like when I with me, Yeah, I was
like I was a deep snapper and like you want
what over? I'm like, I just thought I would ask,
like you know, you're like.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
I'm sorry, I would.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
I would turn liked okay, and I put on my
bad pants and go out there little bit just like
that Pads raw skew.
Speaker 7 (42:16):
And Demo can rap all the tape around his arms.
He wants to every day, you can do whatever. Some
people wasting tape, other people wasting tape. So when I
see Malik Davis just ready to go all the time,
shout out to him, I want to take a moment
to like.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
No, you're right, you're not.
Speaker 5 (42:33):
But he is doing this thing off the couch, got
into a preseason game like.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
He's about to be active.
Speaker 9 (42:40):
Cathy forgot about it.
Speaker 2 (42:42):
But the thing about him was, at one point early
in his career, we were all looking at him like that,
kids got a little sure, and then all of a sudden,
it seemed like he got into the coach's doghouse and
they just they weren't willing to play him.
Speaker 7 (42:52):
Yeah, and you know, shut out the shuts out the
Malik and hey, Blue, I hope it work out for
you and maybe it's the reason why you were a
third round great on.
Speaker 5 (43:00):
Some boards and maybe feel a little bit.
Speaker 7 (43:01):
I just want I want you to just work on
what you work on so that when you get here
you could be great, because we know that you can.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
But to that point, maybe that's also the maturation period
that Malie Davis went through. And now we're seeing because
he's a veterantandan, right, So so maybe maybe this is
what Jayden Blue has to go through in order to
get to the point where he's gonna get those opportunities.
Is well, I still think the guy has talent. It's
crazy talent. So just I think he's gonna have to
learn how to how to do this thing, and once
he figures it out, I think he'll be fine. Yeah,
all right, we're gonna take that's it.
Speaker 5 (43:28):
Let's take yeah, Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 2 (43:30):
We'll be back tomorrow and we'll wrap this thing up.
Let you know what, thing's gonna happen on Sunday when
the Cowboys take on the Eagles. Till then for boxing
on Body Brian brought us Nambogarcia. I'm Derek Eagleton. This
has been the Break live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com Radio.
Speaker 5 (43:41):
We Go Down should be Running Back two.
Speaker 1 (43:43):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
