(00:02):
Hello, mister and missus Brookings Harbor and all
the fishing boats at sea. I'm Bruce Ellis,
and this is the insider report. So sit
back, relax, and let your ears do the
walking as I fill you in on what's
going on in the area this weekend and
beyond.
Well, hello. Hello. Hello. And welcome to this
week's show that keeps you in the know.
Hey. I'm, here all by myself this week.
(00:25):
Kat is gone. We we kinda switched places
last week
because of the pirate festival. I never come
in on Mondays because obvious reasons.
But, yeah, the pirate festival. Yeah. We had
a little Chetco effect action, so that kinda
messed us up on Friday and Saturday, but
Sunday was beautimous.
It was a wonderful it was the way
the pirate festival should have been all weekend,
(00:46):
but at least everybody held on and came
out on Sunday and just crowded the place
up. And it looked like New York a
couple times down the aisle, so that was
great. And
we did a little merman thing. I did
the king Poseidon there with, Chrissy got in
the, with as a mermaid. We got in
there and, did a little promo for a
commercial and everything for the show I mean,
for the for the event, for the Pirates
(01:08):
of the Pacific Festival. And so
fun was had by all. I mean, like
I said, the heat kicked us down a
little bit. It's probably a
yeah. I ain't gonna lie. It took my
butt out. I was down for the count
a couple days. It was rough. I didn't
walk around as much as I usually do,
but that's I was just on it until
Sunday. And then Sunday was like was that
normal?
Feeling better and everything like that. But, yeah,
(01:29):
it was a rough one. Me because you
gotta realize me and Chrissy were out there
since Tuesday.
Every day out at that port, at least
four plus hours,
just getting things marked out, lined out, and
everything ready for the vendors because it was
the biggest one we've had ever.
We had a big section of the parking
lot that was ours as well, so we
had to mark that all out and everything.
(01:51):
So, yeah, it was kind of a it
was a rough one, but we got through
it alive. Everybody came out okay. And, yeah,
we're just glad, you know, hey. Glad we
were able to do a whole bunch during
the summertime, and we had good weather. You
know, it's the first time we ever had
a Checo effect on the pirate festival, but
we had good weather at all our events.
I can't I can't jinx it now. So
(02:11):
we were glad that we were able to,
yeah, each one of them was no rain.
That's it right there. Might have a little
heat, but no rain, and that was always
nice when you're having an event like that.
So, anyways, hope everybody got out there and
had some fun. This last week, just kinda
for me, relaxing is working on my paper
and working on the show and, kinda staying
home as much. So I did as much
(02:32):
of that as possible.
Still had to do my duties and all
that good stuff, but, yeah, got a little
bit of resting in, and this last weekend
was relaxing. So, yeah, that's what it's all
about. And I hope you all got out
there and had some fun, and,
there's a whole bunch of stuff still going
on all the way in through September and
beyond.
So before we get going, I'd like to
thank the Oregon South Coast Fisherman, otherwise known
(02:54):

And now we got a bit of real
history with Bushwacker Bruce. That's right.
Right. Good day, mates.
Bushwacker Bruce here, and welcome to this week's
Beer Wheel of History for you and all
these pleasure. Did you know that sticky rice
was used in the Great Wall Of China?
(14:48):
It's true, and here's the story. During China's
Ming Dynasty, 1368
to 1644,
builders discovered an extraordinary secret could help the
Great Wall Of China stand for centuries,
sticky rice porridge mixed with their mortar.
Scientists of Zay Zing University found that when
added to slate lime, a compound called amylopectin
(15:09):
in the rice created
an incredibly durable paste. Well, it's innovative.
Mortar helped the wall withstand earthquake, storms, and
invasion for over six hundred years. Well, the
rice enhanced mortar proved so effective that it
was used throughout the Ming Dynasty's most well
preserved sections of the Great Wall. Modern analysis
shows that these ancient builders had stumbled upon
(15:29):
a remarkable chemical reaction.
The sticky voice's unique properties formed a super
strong composite
material that's still intact today. This breakthrough came
at a cost, though. Using food supplies for
construction led to some decent descent among workers
who saw their rations being mixed into the
building materials
instead of feeding hungry laborers. Well, I hope
you enjoyed this week's bit of real history.
(15:51):
You're truly push wacker bruce. Until next time,
always keep it real.

thing five years in the making.

how many of them done comedy,
the whole nine yards, but I finally got
yeah. Tom Sheets is gonna help me out,
and me and him are going to put
together. We've started our rehearsal last week. So
that's something that's gonna be happening, and we
hope to be playing here this winter.
And it's gonna be just music and mayhem.
You know? Some great songs and a little
(24:21):
comedy thrown in for some good measure.
And, yeah, that's gonna be happening. We're working
on it now, so I'm really happy about
that. Like I said, five years in the
making.
