Hello, mister and missus Brookings Harbor and all
the fishing boats at sea. I'm cousin Bruce
Ellis. And I'm Kat Liddell. And this is
the insider report.
So let your ears do the walk in
as we fill you in on what's going
on in the Brookings Harbor area and beyond.
Well, hello. Hello. Hello. And welcome to this
week's show that keeps you in the know,
and it's raining, Kathy. How are you doing?

(00:24):
We made it through the weekend alright, but
It's pouring.
Raining outside. Pouring outside.
Oh, man. I've done it this way before
well, once before, but, yeah, this is definitely
the rainiest,
theater pack in day that I've have had
to do. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're packing in
the equipment for for same time next year,
and and, I've got all my tarps out,
and we're just hoping for that break in

(00:45):
the rain that might come at 02:00 this
afternoon. Maybe. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Fingers crossed, you
know. But, we've done this before. And it's
it's just a little extra miserable, but we're
we're gonna get through it. And and this
everything's coming together, and it's really fun. And
you did the play this weekend? It was
last weekend. So it opens Friday. Oh, it
opens Friday. Yeah. Yeah. That's why I said
packing. Yeah. Packing everything in. Yeah. Packing everything
in. Not out. Yeah. Okay. I'm I'm losing

(01:07):
track to the wheels. We got a set
to build. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. You gotta set the build. I
know. It should be a good time. Well,
we were both talking about that because I
said today my papers get delivered and I
have to Of course. Transfer them from the
van to to my car and that's there's
no cover. I'm gonna see if the when
I drive away today, I'm gonna look over
and see if that you know, the Mazda
plays across the way or the old car
plays. Mhmm. If it's open, they've got

(01:29):
a enclosure there. It's right across the street
from where I get the papers delivered. Oh.
Tell the guy to go over there, but
they had a big wire up there before
so nobody could get in. But Yeah. Yeah.
Or just, like, go wander and ask very
nicely, hey. Please excuse me. Yeah. Well, hopefully,
they'll be there, and it'll be and I'll
say, hey, dude. Come over. It will take
us five minutes, you know. But yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. It did hit that one. It's going
for a few days on us here and

(01:50):
everything like that. So Alright. Well, hey. We've,
we've got a whole bunch of events to
talk about. I guess the weather report's gonna
be the weather's gonna be over by the
time this podcast comes out. So boy howdy.
You know what? That's what we said. It's
just about two or three days. Yeah. Yeah.
Uh-huh.
Cool. Cool. Yep. Yep. So and we did
nothing this weekend, but just sat around and
and just did nothing. Just needed to. Sometimes

(02:10):
you gotta do that stuff. You know what
I mean? Oh, absolutely. Yeah. So alright. I
hope everybody got out there and did something
and, yeah, and can, you know, get your
boats ready and all that good stuff. Who
knows? It might be coming soon. I don't
you know, this year hasn't been that big,
though. So We'll see. Never know. Yeah. So
far so good. Hey. Before we get going,
though, we'd like to thank the Oregon South
Coast Fisherman, otherwise known as the Castaways, and
Oregon Coast VIP Marketing for sponsoring the insider

(02:32):

hey, now it's time for quotes from famous

(08:32):
people with Kaz and Bruce. Well, you know,
I've been doing this for, I don't know,
what, 500 shows and everything, and I always
have a different quote thing. You know? Right?
Okay. So
way to figure out something. Just like after
fourteen years of doing the pirate festival, I
finally figured out instead of putting dates on
the the the banners that we have, the
you know, I put second weekend in August
because it always Yeah. Instead of the deal

(08:53):
well, it took fourteen years to figure that
one out. You know? Right? Yes. Uh-huh. Well,
so it took how long? Over 500 shows
for me to figure out that,
some of these birthdays Yeah. I'm tying them
into the Bushwacker Bruce. Uh-huh. So it's you
know, like I did the other day. I've
done the last two times, actually. I I
noticed that. I I clocked that. I was
like, I see what you're doing, my friends.

(09:14):
I love one of them things that, you
know, like, I love better late than never
type thing. You know what I mean? But,
yeah, here we go. I got one here.
Let's see. Hey. And then I found out
when I went to this one, at first,
I thought he was born in September. Then
I realized I have no idea when he
was born, but I had the Bushwacker Bruce
already made
for him. So it's like That's fine. Here's
a few quotes from explorer Henry Hudson. He
was born in 1565,
and that's about all they know on that.

(09:34):
Right.
But, you know, the Hudson River and all
that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So this land he
says, this land may be profitable to those
who will adventure it.
He says, the blue sky, the brown soil
beneath, the grass, the trees, the animals, the
wind and rain and stars are never strange
to me, for I am in and of
and am one of them.
He says the puma is, with the exception

(09:56):
of some monkeys, the most playful animal in
existence.
And last but not least, he says, you
cannot fly like an eagle with the wings
of a wren.
I hope you enjoyed this week's quotes from
Henry Hudson with cousin Bruce. Till next week.
Hey. Have a great one. There you go.
I got some good quotes there, though. Yeah.

with Bushwacker Bruce. Right. Good day, mates. Good
day, Cap. Bushwacker Bruce here, and welcome to
this week's bit of real history for your
knowledge pleasure.
Did you know that Henry Hudson after a
mutiny on a ship was never seen again?
Well, it's true. And here's the story. In
sixteen o nine, Hudson, sailing for the Dutch,
explored the North American coast and discovered the

(16:17):
Hudson River.
For 1610
to 1611 voyage, he sailed again for the
English and the ship discovery
seeking the Northwest Passage.
The discovery became trapped in the ice in
James Bay and a southern part of Hudson
Bay where they spent the winter. Well, by
the time the ice cleared in the 1611,
the crew was hungry, frustrated, and convinced that

(16:37):
Hudson was wasting time and resources.
The disgruntled group crew led by Henry Green
and former first mate Robert Jewett
plotted a mutiny against Hudson and his loyalists.
On June 1611, they seized Hudson, his teenage
son, John, and several crew members suffering from
scurvy. Hudson and the eight others were placed
in the ship's small open boat, the shallop,

(16:58):
and cast adrift in the bay. Hudson, his
son, and the eight other maroon men were
never seen again,
and the mutiny continued even after the abandonment
with the ship experiencing
further hardships on its return to England. The
surviving mutineers were arrested upon reaching Ireland, but
were never punished despite mutiny being a capital
offense.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this week's Better

(17:19):
Real Estate with your Australian Bush Market Bruce.
Until next time, always keep it real.
Goodness. Excuse me. It wasn't a,
it wasn't a pleasure cruise there. Oh, no.
No. No. Some some of those voyages were

(17:39):
pretty rough and, didn't like it sometimes. Yeah.
You know? No happy ending there. No kidding.

into their lives, a friendly face for them
to see every day, and social contact they

(20:29):
may not have otherwise.
There are three routes that deliver hot meals
to about 60 seniors on a daily basis.

hours. You can volunteer by the day, the

And a memory cafe is an informal social
gathering for older adults living with memory loss
and their care partners.
Care partners may include, but are not limited
to, spouses, siblings,
children, or friends whose social lives are often
just as affected as their loved ones. Memory

(23:17):
cafes are designed to be a casual stress
free gathering to allow care partners the opportunity
to relax and socialize
with others in a similar situation.
Memory Cafe Curry is staffed by qualified social
service providers as well as library staff and
volunteers.
Yep. And Queers and Allies Brookings has a
get together at the Chetco Library Forest Room,
the third Saturdays of the month, 2PM

(23:39):
to 4PM, ages nine to 19, and it's
hosted by the Southern Oregon Coast Pride. Okay.
And then the Brookings Recorder Ensemble is looking
for people to join them in the exploration
and enjoyment of playing music for the recorder.
This group meets at the Checo Activity Center
on Wednesdays from one to 02:30PM.
You're invited to bring your recorder and a
music stand. They'll provide the music. Yes. They

(24:01):
will. Alright. We're down to the nitty gritty
here. Community kitchen schedule
as a Mondays at Saint Timothy's.
This is the noon to one all these
are till I get towards the end. Tuesday
is the Saint Timothy's. Wednesday is the start
of the sea Catholic church.
Thursday is the Presbyterian church. Fridays is the
Lutheran church.
On the first, third, and fifth Saturdays, it's
Saint Timothy's again. And then on the second

(24:23):
and fourth Saturdays, it's the Church of the
Nazarene.
Then here's where it's different. On Sundays, Saint
Timothy's serves from three to four. You can
also find the community kitchen schedule at kciw.0rg.
And speaking of the blood thing
I think I thought I had it in
here, but I believe it's the Elks Lodge.
Is that who's the next one? Is that
Yes. Yeah. The site the the Catholic church

(24:44):
always, hosts them whenever they're able to, but,
the the location the special location this month
is, is the Elks Lodge. So they're gonna
get cracking. Yeah. Yeah. We'll get it because
it's down the line, I think, because I
got it in the newspaper. You know that?
I got my paper. Yeah. Mhmm. Well, sweet.
