Studies show that when our teenagers get adequate sleep, it has huge impacts. From grades to safety to mental health, adolescents need more sleep then other ages. Unfortunately, the majority of adolescents in the United States aren’t getting enough sleep (and it’s usually because of school start times).

This week we’re joined by Lisa L. Lewis, author of The Sleep-Deprived Teen: Why Our Teenagers Are So Tired, and How Parents and Schools Can Help Them Thrive. She talks with us about how much sleep adolescents need, how we can help make changes from our houses to our school systems, and why it’s so important.

Things we mention in this episode/other resources:

- We mention Start School Later, “a coalition of health professionals, sleep scientists, educators, parents, students, and other concerned citizens dedicated to increasing public awareness about the relationship between sleep and school hours and to ensuring school start times compatible with health, safety, education, and equity.”

- CXMH ep. 57 - Why We Need Better Sleep (& How to Get It) (feat. Dr. Michael Scullin)
