Voedsel is politiek. In een onzekere wereld, waarin handelsoorlogen worden aangekondigd en afgelast, is Europa erg afhankelijk van import. De import van graan, sojabonen en kunstmest bijvoorbeeld. Is Europese voedselsoevereiniteit noodzakelijk om lege schappen te voorkomen? Met landbouweconoom Petra Berkhout en historicus André Hoogendijk.
Europa moet in deze wereld vol geopolitieke spanningen zijn eigen koers kiezen. Wat kan en wil Europa zelf telen? Hoe maken we onze landbouw duurzaam en écht circulair? En hoe telen we bovendien genoeg voedzaam voedsel te midden van hoge klimaatdruk? Biedt de geopolitieke onzekerheid een kans om het voedselsysteem te transformeren?
De geschiedenis leert ons dat voedselpolitiek altijd een machtsmiddel is geweest. In een wereld waarin sojabonen, graan en kunstmest onderhevig zijn aan geopolitieke grillen, moet Europa – en Nederland voorop – richting kiezen. Als innovatief landbouwland – klein in oppervlakte, groot in export – is Nederland kwetsbaar én invloedrijk: wat gaan we doen?
