#231 - Waarom de orthodoxe kerk wél groeit en populair is bij influencers als Jordan Peterson (met Ruben van der Kaap en Stefan Paas)

Er is iets opmerkelijks aan de hand. Want waar veel kerken krimpen of moeten sluiten, gaat de orthodoxe kerk regelrecht tegen deze trend in. De kerk groeit, en is zelfs een hype op internet, mede door mensen als Jordan Peterson die er positief over spreken. Ook in Nederland melden de orthodoxe kerken dat de aanwas zo groot is dat ze het nauwelijks nog aankunnen. De kerk groeide in 10 jaar met zo'n 30 procent en is met ruim 250.000 leden inmiddels de derde christelijke stroming van Nederland. Hoe kan het dat juist zo'n oude, traditionele kerk - waar de diensten nog in het Aramees worden gehouden - nu zo aantrekkelijk is, ook voor jongeren? Heeft dat te maken met de rituelen? Of misschien juist met de duidelijke traditionele opvattingen? Of lift de kerk misschien mee op een golf van populaire masculiene influencers? We vragen het aan Ruben van der Kaap. Hij is een geboren Tukker maar al zo'n 15 jaar lid van de Syrisch-Orthodoxe kerk, waar hij inmiddels ook priester-kandidaat is.
