Eerste Bijvoet planten in bloei. Bijvoet is een kruid dat veel lijkt op een struik en in het hele land is te vinden. De plant staat langs wegkanten, in bermen en op plekken waar wat gerommeld is. Bijvoet is een composiet, maar heeft geen opvallende bloeiwijzen zoals we van de meeste composieten kennen. Bijvoet is naast de Ambrosia een van de weinige composieten die voor de voortplanting afhankelijk is van bestuiving via de wind. Het pollen dat in de lucht gebracht wordt is sterk allergeen en een flink aantal mensen kan hooikoortsachtige klachten van dit pollen ondervinden.
