About Our Guest

Hilke Schelmann is an Emmy-Award winning journalist, freelance reporter and journalism professor at NYU. She covers artificial intelligence and the future of work for the Wall Street Journal, the Guardian and MIT Technology Review amongst others.  She was a showrunner and reporter for the Wall Street Journal's video series Moving Upstream and her work has been featured in The New York Times, MIT Technology Review, TIME, The Atlantic and many others. She won an Emmy for her direction and filming of the documentary "Outlawed in Pakistan" which was also dubbed “among the standouts” at the Sundance Film Festival and she was a finalist for the Peabody Awards in 2017 for her investigation into student debt for VICE's flagship news magazine VICE on HBO.
