Drink it in, man. Cornbread Cornbread puffs down
Detroit Lions. Drink it in, man.
(00:27):
Cornbread. Cornbread Touchdown.
Detroit Lions. Drink it in now.
Drink, drink, drink. Drink it in now.
(00:47):
D Troy Kool-aid, Detroit Kool-aid Drinkers, What's going
on, everybody? It's your host, Derek O Crew
right here on the Detroit kool-aid cast talking about
those lads serving up that delicious Honolulu blue flavored
kool-aid. Drink it in everybody.
(01:09):
Drink it in. You know what goes good with
Detroit kool-aid? Cornbread.
Cornbread. You know what goes even better
with Detroit kool-aid? A double sided cornbread.
Cornbread. And I'm coming at you literally
like I'm recording this show. It's about 10:00 PM.
(01:32):
The day got away from me. I'm doing 8,000,000 things.
I'm all over the map. I just get home.
I've set my stuff down. I'm getting going on a couple of
things like I I got to I got to do a Detroit kool-aid cast.
I got to do a solo a flagship here on Wednesday for the people
and the people consist of the millions.
(01:57):
It's also another week where we're doing dollars.
Makes sense. So I'm looking at the list and
like literally this has been on my brain where I was like, I'm
going to do, I'm going to do running backs and linebackers.
(02:19):
No, wait, wait, I'm going to do wide receivers and corners.
No, I'm going to do. I had all these machinations,
right? But because it's so Dang late,
tired of busy, but I still want to get you guys content today.
I'm going with quarterbacks and specialists.
(02:41):
That's right, my Co host at shops in the Diesel.
Let me talk about Jared exactly.I'll I'll talk about the
quarterback, I'll talk about ourkickers and punters, 'cause
there's people too short list. I'll have some takes.
We'll go over their contracts. We'll see if that makes sense
SENSE and and get up out here for today.
(03:05):
So we'll save the other positions that are elite for
another day or when shops finally comes back on the show.
But today, Okri solo Detroit kool-aid cast, flagship dollars
makes sense. Quarterbacks, specialists.
(03:29):
I don't have time to mess around.
Let's get right into it. And part of me is like, maybe
I'll start with the kicker. You know, maybe we need to like
spend a bunch of time on what our punter makes and why he's so
good and why it's such a good contract.
But but I was thinking and like, maybe we should just start with
(03:50):
our $53 million quarterback, Jared Goff and and some people
that listen to the show are like, what?
Okra, Why do you hate your golf? Why do you always make little
comments? Why do you talk about his wobbly
spirals? The guy wins.
He's better than Staddy, Patty, Maddy, Staddy.
(04:13):
And all of that is true to some degree.
I mean, I I do take shots. I don't love the wobbly spirals.
I do think he's somewhat a product of an incredible
offensive line. If you didn't listen to the
offensive line dollars makes sense.
You can go listen to that. What, a week or two ago,
whatever it was. He also has a guy in the back
(04:35):
food backfield who's an absolutemulti dimensional position.
Less wait for it, wait for it. All right, everybody, this goes
(04:55):
out to my fantasy football fans out there now.
You probably heard about RealitySports Online, the most powerful
fantasy sports platform where owners can build and manage
their fantasy team like a real NFL general manager.

I mean, we're talking free agency, multi year contracts,
rookie drafts, multi team trades.
(05:17):

It's as close as you're going toget to be in an NFLGM.
But do you think it sounds complicated?
It's not. I'm here to tell you it's the
best thing about Reality Sports Online.
Is it just more fun than your normal fantasy league?
But it doesn't take barely any more time.
(05:38):

I mean, come on now. You can test your general
manager skills by going over to Reality Sports Online.

(06:03):
Elite Jimmy Gibbs got a guy named Demo.
He's got a guy named Aman Rah. He's got #jamo fast.
He's got all these weapons and it's like I'm looking at this
guy's contract 'cause that's what I'm here to talk about
today. Not his appearance, not the way
(06:23):
he throws football, not his leadership qualities, his
contract. And to be honest, that's really
the biggest issue I have with Jared Goff.
It's like the dudes made dough since day one and I don't see
any discounts. I don't see any, you know,
helping the team. It's always top the market re up
(06:45):
100 million 120. So it's like I just get a little
sick of it and I'm already looking at this deal and you
see, you see what Chops would say and you see what I would
say. Chops would say butt upgrade
makes 32,000,000 on a cap hit. And I would say, but Chops, he's
(07:05):
53,000,000 on average based on the four year $212 million
contract that that he signed. Gosh almighty, no, wait, that
what's going on here with this deal three years after acquiring
(07:27):
this guy, we extended golf for four years, 134 and an extension
and that includes 170. No, this what what is going on
right here. So he already had a couple years
left before that kicks out. What what is going on with this
(07:51):
deal? I'm trying to look at this thing
here. Four years to 12 within its four
years, 134 extension on top of what he already had, which
includes 170 million guaranteed,113,000,000 fully guaranteed at
(08:12):
signing, 53,000,000 per 20.75 allocation of the current salary
cap, 10th in the whole league when it comes to that metric.
I'm getting like frustrated by the numbers, yet I want to tell
(08:34):
you still why I love this player.
Yes, I'm not the conductor of the hashtag golf train, but I am
a board. I am a a person that travels on
the golf train. I support him.
I mean, you guys know, you know,we talk about it all the time on
(08:56):
the show. You know, it's, it's a running
gimmick. We have my buddy Chops, who
always is telling me, you know, I'm not allowed on the golf
train, even puts in some explicatives even though his
kids listen to the podcast. I want your Boola Boola support
(09:17):
when it comes to Jared golf. You don't get to join the golf
train. You're off.
Bro, you're off. Easy bro, easy, you know, Take
it easy there, brother. Brother, my my issue brother
(09:37):
brother is that it's the dollarsthat don't make sense.
And no, I don't care that other players make more and that
quarterbacks make bucco bucks ridiculous contracts because I
(09:58):
base what you make off of how you compare to other players and
what they do. So if another guy makes 20
million more, it means because he's much better, much more
talented. The thing is, the reason I'm
willing to pay the Jared Goff premium is because he wins,
(10:20):
WINS, wins ball games. That's worth a bonus, that's
worth a little extra, that's worth a big, you know, side
piece of dough because you win games.
If I pay you a ton and you're real talented and all you do is
lose or put up a bunch of stats and then I always say the same
things at the podium and we justcontinue to lose, then I want a
(10:43):
discount, I want a coupon, I want to give back.
But Jared Goff wins, so I'm going to give him that little
bump. But still, like Chops can tell
you all day long here on the show that he makes 32 as a cap
hit. Listen to these numbers. 2025
would be 31 years old. Base 18,000,000 Signing bonus
(11:08):
proration 14.6 Cap hit 32.60 Wow, only 11, nearly 12% of the
cap. But in 2026 that number on a
base goes from 18 to 55,000,000.The cap hit goes from 32.6 to
(11:33):
nearly 70. His 33 year old age the base is
40, the cap it's 55. And then in 2028 the base is
nearly 40 and the cap it is $62 million for a quarterback for 17
(11:59):
soon to be 18 games of football.Good deal if you can get it.
This guy better make every play.He better win every big ball
game. He better limit the Ducks.
You better throw it deep to JMO and get it there because that is
a lot of dough. Number seven NFL ranked annual
(12:21):
average value for Jared Goff. Do I want to just have a
quarterback from the bowling alley?
No. Do I want to just throw them
away for some unproven rookie? No.
Do I think there's better options out there at a better
price that are younger, maybe more skilled?
(12:41):
Yes. Do I want Jared Goff here
because he fits the culture? He's gritty, grimy, loves the
city, has a tremendous wife, he's getting got a kid on the
way, He makes a lot of good plays, he wins, as I said
earlier, and he hopefully will get US1, if not multiple Super
Bowls. Yes, yes, those are the reasons
(13:04):
that I'm willing to stomach thiscontract as well as pay this
player, even though I have to hear the sports radio every.
But he can't run the football and oh, he doesn't whip it side
or I. I care about those things, but I
don't. I love the swaggy sidearm over
the shoulder, deep bombs and andrunning around and scrambling,
(13:28):
especially when you can run for touchdowns like Josh Allen and
others do, but not as much as I love sometimes how Jira golf
puts the football on people. He hits him in stride, he runs
the offense, he can run gimmicks.
He's smart, he knows coverage. So I'll pay him for that as
well. So it's it's a very hefty deal,
(13:50):
big time contract. But Jared Goff's our freaking
quarterback. He's our leader.
Let's go. Do the dollars make sense to
Okri here in the kool-aid cast? Not necessarily.
But do I love this player and I'm happy with him as our leader
and quarterback? Yes.
So take that for what you will. I'm sure I'll get beat up about
(14:11):
it or have to listen to my Co host come on and try to browbeat
me, but that's where I'm at. Looking at the number 2
quarterback on this list is my boy H2O Hen and Hooker.
I mean, you want to talk about differences in contracts, You
(14:31):
know people will tell you that. Hen Hooker doesn't have the
skill set. He hasn't done anything.
He can't do anything. He's going to get washed out.
He's going to be at the spray the shoes counter at the bowling
alley here soon. I don't think so.
I don't think this guy has seasoned as quickly or as well
(14:51):
as maybe we would have liked. But how do you know he was hurt?
You saw flashes and pre season he actually ran the ball more
than I thought. I can't say I watched him a ton
at Tennessee with the Volunteers, but Hendon Hooker is
talented. He could throw the football.
He showed me he's got more running ability than I imagined.
(15:12):
Even though he probably go back on his tape, he probably did it
quite a bit in college. He's smart, good kid.
Dude was taken in the early to mid third round #68 overall
actually. I have it right here.
And dude listen to dudes base salary since a rookie since he's
been a rookie 500,000 dollars, $915,000 this year $1.03 million
(15:45):
and then next year you got them for 1.15 million.
Do you understand those numbers based on what I just read off,
which was like 53? Oh wait, that's unfair.
Let me go back. We're talking base now.
So what was Jared Goff at like 18 base and then what it go up
(16:05):
to like 50 base? So if you want to go on those
numbers or let's go to the cap hits, let's do that. 789-K as a
rookie, 1.3 his second year, 1.6in 2025.
That's a $1.6 million cap hit when Jared Goff makes
(16:26):
$53,000,000 a year. I, I don't understand why more
NFL teams are not looking at this and being like, dude, like,
yes, you have to pay the absolute top three to five
quarterbacks in the league. They are priceless.
(16:48):
But after that, there's some type of cut off of like 53 for
this guy, million that is, or I don't know, 1.5 or three or
heaven forbid you take a guy on the top 15, he makes a whopping
like 6 to $8 million a year for five plus seasons on average.
(17:11):
That that's, that's unbelievablefranchise changing.
Just just think what this team could do with, you know, let's
not even say 50 million, let's say 40 million extra dollars to
put on defense offensive weaponsand have a sustainable
quarterback. No, I'm not saying that you just
(17:32):
swap Hooker for golf right now, but I'm saying what if you find
a gem in the third round or the second or the first round here
in the next few years, you maybeseason them for a year under JG
16. And then you take that fifty $60
million and put it towards your team and have a decent to good
(17:55):
to maybe great quarterback at anywhere from 8:00 to, I don't
know, $1 million a year for fouror five seasons as a rookie
contract. That would be incredible.
I, I am for that. The more I look at these
numbers, they absolutely are just making my eyes bulge out of
my head going, you know, I hope Jared Goff stays healthy.
(18:19):
You know, TBD if you ask me, butwe'll see.
I, I damn sure hope he plays well making that type of dough.
But if he doesn't and you could get a similar production from
H2O Hen and Hooker and then be able to acquire future assets or
add to your team at the trade deadline, that intrigues me.
(18:42):
And then you got Kyle Allen. I I got to keep this moving.
We got to get some more of our sponsors.
And you guys know we try to sprinkle those throughout the
show. It helps the thing moving.
We thank the people for all the listeners, but we got to get
those sponsors in to keep the show rolling, pay for the
equipment, do what we do get. Kyle Allen was a surprise ad,
you know, cap hit of 1.1, you know, average annual value of
(19:06):
1.3 ish. Let's see do we just give him
the one better just giving him the one year deal.
Yeah just this year in 2025, he's 29 nothing in the future.
So that that's an absolute bargain of a, of a, you know,
backup third, whatever you want to call him if he makes it.
If he doesn't, the lions really don't have many other options.
(19:30):
But to me, it's I know that Dan freaking Campbell and Brad
always look for business homes. We'll tell you this, our
quarterback, we love this guy does this, he does that.
Can't live without him. Got to have him so thankful, so
blessed to have him. It's like, I'm thankful I'm
(19:53):
happy too, but I, I, I don't know when I start looking at
these numbers, like especially over the next how many years
that I read off 3 or 4 more years.
I'm just telling Jared Goff right now, not only do you need
to ball out basically every game, I need you to be like.
Winning multiple deep playoff runs games, I need you to take
(20:16):
home a trophy or two and then what?
I really need you to do both. When you do that regardless is
start giving the team a little give back when those crazy
numbers start hitting. Oh hey, a restructure by Jared
Golf frees up $25 million. Hey Jared Goff gave back to the
community a new Community Centerworth 30.
(20:37):
Ridiculous stuff like that is what I need from Jared Goff to
build up the city as well as build up this football team when
they need it 'cause I can't havemy man having a 706055 plus
$1,000,000 cap hit, base, signing bonus, whatever it is,
it just can't have it. I don't care.
The quarterbacks. Can you go up?
I, I know there's a market value, but I need my man to help
(21:00):
us out. Later this year, we'll take you
on the numbers that are on paper.
As long as there's future restructures as well as give
backs that we continue winning here in Detroit, we're more than
happy to have you as our quarterback.
You make plays, you do good things and oh by the way, you
win football games. Now we just need to win the big
(21:21):
ones in the playoffs as well as the big one.
It's called the Super Bowl, everybody.
That's what I got in this first segment.
I'm not leaving yet because I got a finish which might only
take 5 or 10 minutes to talk about the specialists.
I know you're going to hang around because I might have a
hot take or two. I might say something crazy.
I might even do a side tangent topic because I got more time in
(21:43):
the second segment. You never know what's going to
happen. That's why all the loyal,
diehard Detroit kool-aid drinkers listen from start to
finish, because you never know what I might do, might say, or
what might happen. Everybody be right back.

Kool-aid drinkers, I'm back. Thank you so much for listening
(23:10):
to the show, sharing the show, checking out the show.
And I just want to say I'm so excited for football to get
rolling. I'm seeing all these things
going around like, you know, Michigan football starts and
like, I don't even know. It's like barely over a month.
Like I saw today. The Lions report for camp in a
(23:32):
couple weeks. The Lions have a preseason
football game called the Hall ofFame Game in July.
I'm recording here at 10:11 PM at night on July 1st.
We're 29 days away from some semblance of Lions football.
(23:58):
Exactly. I mean hashtag it everybody.
Hashtag job you liking Unbelievable.
So get hyped about that. If you're not doing fantasy
football, you need to get in a few drafts.
I got a few coming up. The Scott Fishbowl be get going.
I've got multiple college fantasy leagues which I can't
wait for, few other office leagues as well as my 32 team,
(24:23):
40 to 53 players per team, Reality sports online leagues
which I love. Everybody I continue to build
the Detroit that's in the one that's replicating the NFLI.
Feel decently good about my team.
Heading into this year. It's going to be hard for me to
(24:43):
get that trophy, but if things break right, I don't have some
bad injuries. I might be in the mix at the end
of the year, but man it's tough to build a team and compete with
some of these people that have done a complete tear down.
I've been trying to rock that thing since day one.
I'm always in the mix but hate to say it, do not have a RFLRSO
(25:10):
as we call it. RFL is the league name, RSO
Reality Sports Online championship trophy in that
league, which I want so badly for our Detroit.
I'll let you guys know if I get that done someday, but get in
some leagues, have some fun. Football will be back before you
know it. And Speaking of football,
(25:30):
kickers, punters and snappers, long snappers, That is our
people too. They're important.
Looking at these contracts, do they make sense?
I mean, you tell me. I mean none of these guys make
over $4 million a year. Our young kicker, let's start
(25:53):
with him, Mr. Jake Bates, a guy who I came on these airwaves on
this pod machine and and put on the old Twitter, the old ex
machine that Jake Bates was going to be a no doubt big leg
kicker. People like our friend the great
Natalie Sparbeck went crazy because dude had one bad camp
(26:15):
day in like the middle of July or August or whatever it was.
She was like, get rid of this guy.
He's can't be good. We need some and do is.
I don't think he's barely missedany kicks since guys just money
from 50 plus he can hit it from 60 plus he's he's dialed in from
in tight. He's a great dude and I'm
looking at it right here. My man's barely 25 years old.
(26:39):
The Lions have him under contract for only this season.
Yes, he's a kicker. Yes, you know, he's young.
But we need, we need to extend this out.
When you get my man here, he needs to be in Detroit for a
long time. So he has a base of 960K cap hit
of $1.1 million. Like, let's go ahead and keep
(27:01):
Jakey Bates here for a long time.
I love his mentality. I love the consistency he's
shown. It's always big to have a kicker
with a huge leg. They can boom that thing from
deep. You can score more points.
You can at least have that as anoption as well as just he, he
seems like Dan Campbell. He says he's wired right.
(27:23):
He's not afraid of the moment. He's he's got much better since
the first moment in camp as wellas he he just he fits right in
with the team, with the culture. So dollars, that makes sense all
day long for my man Jake Bates, who's soon going to be saying
this. Where's my money?
(27:43):
I mean, I agree we need to hook you up a little bit more, but
not too much because you're a kicker, bro.
But yeah, Jake Bates did his thing last year.
I'm expecting big things. He is the kicker of the Oakry
Lions. I picked him up last year, I
think gave him a three-year dealon my team.
I've got him for multiple seasons, maybe even longer.
(28:03):
And he he did nice things, scored some nice points for me.
So I appreciate him. You want to talk about a guy I
appreciate, it's our punter JackFox, Captain Jack.
I mean, since this dude came in the league, he he's been
absolutely money booms the football.
He fits right in with his teammates, you know, all the
(28:24):
time, kind of, you know, just all Pro Pro Bowl, whatever you
want to call it. Like I'm looking at this is kind
of crazy. So he's like 28, going to be 29.
I did not know that. Jack Fox was undrafted to Kansas
City in 2019. And then we scooped him up after
that dude signed a four year, $14 million contract with the
(28:48):
Lions. And that was when did he sign
that doesn't totally give me theyear, but he's in.
Let's see if it was a four year deal.
He signed that a couple years ago and he's got this year and
next year still left on that deal.
(29:08):
Cap hits of 3.94 point O. You know, I'm sure there's
plenty of cheaper punters out there, but nobody that lives up
to that value like Jack Fox does.
I mean, he puts it where he needs to put it.
He can boom it, he can drop it, you know, in a coffin corner.
(29:29):
He does his thing. So these are definitely dollars
that make sense. We're always top of the league
and special teams kicking game, pinning teams deep.
You know accuracy, you know kickoff all the things this guy can
do very valuable. Yes, you hear me bag on special
(29:49):
teams a lot because why? Most of the time they Kick It
Out the end zone as well as mostteams don't have punters that
can flip field. I've seen my man Jack Box kick
the ball from like our 10 to theother teams like 20.
You know, just totally flip the field and and pin them back with
our great special teams coverageunits as well.
(30:11):
So absolutely incredible. That's that's a very nice combo.
You know, you also got the consistency of Jack Fox with the
holding, you know, Jake Bates, you know, comfortable with Jack
Fox. You want to keep those two
around for a long time. And then here's a very sneaky
player. Hogan Hatton.
(30:31):
I mean, let me say it again for you, Hogan.
Brother Hatton. Hold on one more time.
Hogan, tell you something, Brother, Hat brother.
I, I think this brother, brotherhe, he came out of nowhere last
year and actually stole this jobfrom whatever Bumpski McGee was
(30:53):
there that was going to have it.Hogan Hatton, brother is like 24
going on 25 years old, undraftedby Detroit in 2024.
My man is under contract for this year and next year cap hit
a 960 K, $1.1 million. And you know we had Don Muhlbach
(31:19):
every year he came back. Dude was like 43 and was still
snapping for us. And Bob Quinn came in his first
year and thought of a good thingto do would be to just jettison
Don Muhlbach and they had to bring him back because his
YouTube long snapper that he drafted in, what, the fifth
round or something kooky like that, couldn't make it out of
(31:40):
training camp. We toiled around there for a few
years. I think Don Mulebach still in
the organization. I think he's with the Lions and
in a coaching capacity. And Hogan hadn't surprised me.
We just like came on the scene, took the job, didn't notice any
issues really last year. And trust me, you'll notice if
(32:02):
if a long snapper has issues, whether it be low snaps on field
goals or not getting it back to the punter or getting it back
too slow and having things blocked.
And I I really didn't notice anything across the board.
So like Jake Bates's deal right now on AAV in the NFL ranks 2200
(32:22):
and 39th. Jack Fox as our do everything
top of the line punter, 595th inthe National Football League and
Hogan hat and our young productive important.
Yet he's he's also just, you know, a long snapper, which it
is what it is 2500 and 69th as well.
(32:44):
So you just can't go wrong with those specialists.
You really can't the prices, thedollars that make sense, the
production, the low cost. I mean, after all this list, the
only guy that even makes any money in that ruffles my
feathers at all is Jared Goff at53,000,000 annual average value.
(33:06):
And it like I said, in future seasons, let me say it again
just for the people in the back,so you understand, in future
years, a cap hit of 70 million, a cap hit of 55,000,000 and a
cap hit of $62 million a season to play quarterback.
There's a potential out in 2028 if we want it.
(33:28):
But for the next three years, you not only have Jared Goff,
this is the last manageable yearwhen it comes to price point.
And then my man better either give some money back, we better
get a clearance clearance couponor I better see multiple
trophies heading to the 313, heading to the Det everybody.
(33:50):
That's what I got. I talked quarterbacks.
I talked specialists. That was dollars.
That makes sense here on the Detroit Kool-aid Flagship Show,
(34:11):
everybody, That's what I got. And we'll catch you on Friday
for more content than more stuffon Monday.
Then the flagship began on Wednesday.
You know what we do? Drink it in, everybody.
I'll check you next week. Drink it in.
Cornbread. Cornbread.
