Het is bijna tijd voor Keti Koti! Na twee jaar Covid herdenken we eindelijk gezamenlijk op 1 juli 2022 de afschaffing van slavernij in Nederland. Op 1 juli 1863 kwamen namelijk meer dan 45.000 tot slaafgemaakte mensen in de toenmalige koloniën Suriname en de Nederlandse Antillen vrij. Nederland was – zal jullie wel weinig verrassen – een van de laatste Europese landen die de slavernij en handel van tot slaafgemaakte mensen definitief afschaften. De tot slaafgemaakte mensen moesten echter wel nog 10 jaar lang verplicht doorwerken en mochten pas in 1873 de plantages echt verlaten.
