Now, before we get started, wehave a message from our friends
Kevin and Amanda.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
You've never experienced Disney.
Until you experience what Kevinand Amanda have to offer.
Their product when in the Parkis awesome.
What it is is it's a scavengerhunt for your favorite parks.
What's great about this is thatwe Florida would be awesome we
were.
I've been to.
Vanessa told me I've been toCalifornia twice before.

(01:32):
I don't remember the first one,but what it does is you have
these cards with clues and yougo through different lands back
and forth, finding things thatyou have seen but you've never
seen.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Now we did way better .
When we've done it at Epcot, weare going to be talking about
some time that we spent atDisneyland Park and California
Adventure.
Not so good, it took us a lotlonger, but it was still fun.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Well, we're just not familiar with it.
But again, what was awesome islike I had the card, I'd be
holding it up and I'd be lookingaround, and what was great and
what cut this short is thatyou're going to see Disney like
you've never seen before, andnot only do they have Disney,
but they have also parks likeUniversal.
And use the code DISLOVE10,d-i-s-l-o-v-e 1-0-DISLOVE10 to

(02:18):
save 10% off your next order.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
And we will make sure to share that link in the show
notes.
And to add to what Chris said, what did we also get to do when
we were using the cards?

Speaker 2 (02:29):
We got to meet Kevin and Amanda, and that's why I
think the one thing I'm kind ofgoing a little longer with this
promo is that Kevin and Amandanumber one are awesome.
Her mom is awesome and theycreated a product that just is
generally really fun, and what'sgreat about it is that unless
you're really going to a ride, you know if you have a fast pass
to your ride.
You're just walking.
With this, you have realintention and it is really so

(02:52):
much fun.
I'm looking forward to doingthese again in the future.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yes, for sure, and we have some pictures I'll share
of us with Kevin and Amanda anddoing some things with them when
we were in the park.
So super excited for you guysto check that out yourself.
And again, if it's a park younot really know a lot about, it
was fun for us because we got tosee a lot of details that we
might have missed.
And for those parks that youlove going to, you're just going

(03:17):
to see so much more that youwould never have noticed before.
So today is one of our specialepisodes.
We periodically have a specialepisode where we are talking
about a special event or somesort of thing that we attended,
and in this episode we are goingto talk about our trip to
California and, in particular,we are going to talk about an

(03:41):
event we attended calledDisneyland After Hours 90s Night
, and this was on March 6th Anote they only had two of these
dates, so it was a sold outevent and this was something
that in February they had likeSweethearts Night and then in
March they had the 90s Night and, as I mentioned, it was sold

(04:02):
out.
It was $149 for the ticket.
We're going to talk about someof the highlights and some of
the things that we thought weregreat, some of the things that
we weren't as impressed with.
So we're going to talk a littlebit about all of the things
related to the event.
I will preface this.
We probably might have enjoyedit a little more.
We had traveled that day fromMichigan.

(04:23):
We flew to Arizona, we drovefrom Arizona to Anaheim.
We made a few stops along theway, so by the time we got to
the party we had been up, Ithink, 20 hours.
We were so happy to be there.
Yes, so to get started, chris, just in general.
I have some more specificquestions to ask, but what was
your overall impression of theevent?

Speaker 2 (04:44):
It was awesome.
It was just one of those thingswhere I mean I'll say I grew
out a lot of those shows, butthe ones I was really I got my
foot with Scrooge McDuck.
It's just an awesome vibe.
And I think the one thing isyou know, you go to a Disney
park and you'll see people fromeight days, eight months to 88
years old, and so I think thenice thing about this is that it

(05:06):
did trend 40s and it's just adifferent vibe and just people
having fun.
There's nothing like nostalgia.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
And to kind of add to that, I will say I was also
surprised at how many peoplewere not alive in the 90s that
were there, that were totallyinto it too.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Correct, and it's just fun to see people enjoy the
shows that you watched as a kidand got my photos that I love
to do, but it was just a greatnight.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Yeah.
So my overall impression was Idid enjoy the event.
I enjoyed the night.
There's certain aspects of itthat we're going to talk about.
There were some things that wejust we prioritized doing what
we could get into and enjoyingthe night rather than spending
two hours in line for one thing.
So that was something that waskind of our priority.
We did meet our friend that hadcame down from Northern

(05:54):
California because we had a biggroup that was going to be
actually going on a cruise a fewdays later, a Disney cruise,
which we'll review on anotherepisode.
But overall I think it was wellworth it.
There had been rain earlier inthe day.
The rain stopped.
I got decked out in my 90s gear,so it was a lot of fun for that
.
It was very nostalgic.

(06:15):
As Chris mentioned, there weresome things that were dear to
like my childhood and then otherthings that might have been a
little bit older or differentthings.
But overall I will say thenight I thought it was great.
We've been to so many afterhours events at Disney World.
We've done like the VillainsNight, We've done the ones that
are targeted for DVC, We've donejust the regular after hours,

(06:39):
and then the DVC ones are thoseMoonlight Magics.
So we've been to a lot ofnighttime events and like
Christmas party, Halloween party, all of those.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
All of them.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Yeah, so we.
I will say as a comparison it'svery comparable.
You did get when you went intothe park, you got a fanny pack,
which I thought was great andthat was kind of your gift for
the night.
One thing that I thoughtoverall was they had a lot more
offerings than if you go to apark in Florida.

(07:08):
I thought, like the Christmasparty or the Halloween party,
this one had a lot moreofferings than you would have
saw at some of those differentparties.
So, as Chris mentioned, therewere a lot of great things Now
they had.
They gave you a guide that hadall of the different food
offerings.
And we did end up we met ourfriend right away.
We had dinner with her at theRiverbell Terrace.

(07:30):
We went and had dining thereand they had a full menu that
was specifically for a 90s night.
I will say the main food.
I mean it was good.
I don't think it was anythingway awesome, but it was.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
I don't remember any of the food.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
It was a long day.
You had some sort of rib thingand I had a taco thing.
Yeah, I had a taco thing thatwas kind of supposed to be like
a Crunchwrap Supreme kind ofthrowback.
But then they also had just awhole slew of snacks and I only
had a chance to try one.
They had a churro that was likea Dunkaroo with a buttercream

(08:09):
dip.
I thought it was good.
They had a lot of other funones that I would have loved to
try.
We were full because we atedinner at Riverbell Terrace and
that, but I will say they had alot more offerings than you
typically see at the Christmasor the Halloween parties.
I think a lot of that has to dowith the culture in California
in terms of the Disney culture.
They're really into havingthings that they can have for,

(08:33):
like pictures and stuff likethat.
So some of the other aspectsbesides the food.
They had character meet andgreets, as Chris mentioned.
There were quite a few of thoseWith the characters.
We went and saw some of themand then they also had backdrops
.
So one of the things that Ithought was kind of unique is
that there were a couple ofcharacters that they knew were

(08:55):
going to be super crowded.
So they had Launchpad, hueyDewey and Louie Darkwing, duck
and Scrooge McDuck, and whatthey ended up doing is, I think
they just called them walk-bygreetings.
I don't.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Yeah, you couldn't go up and get next to them.
There was a barrier, but Iunderstand why.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
And so it moved fast.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
It did move fast and it wasn't a case where there was
, you know, maybe if it was 901or it was the first meeting, but
if you get a little later intothe night the characters were so
easy to approach you couldstill get your photos.
There's no issues.
Just kind of consider it likealmost like a COVID photo back
when you do like a big selfieand if you have a decent camera
it wasn't a problem.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
So some of the other characters they had was they had
Baloo and King Louie, they hadPocahontas and Miku.
They also had Belle and Beast, they had Esmeralda and Phoebus
and then they had Flick andPrincess Etta I think I said
that right from Bugs Life.
They had Indiana Jones, which Ikind of wanted to make it over

(09:59):
there to see him but we didn't.
They had the monkeys fromFantasmic and then they had Fat
Cat and Monterey Jack inToontown.
They also had Rescue Rangers, chip and Dale.
Now, some of those did havelonger lines so we didn't do all
of them.
But they also had really coolphoto like backdrop things that
they've started to do at likethe Christmas parties, and we

(10:20):
did a lot of those.
We did Inspector Gadget andthen they had from Rescue
Rangers and a bunch of thedifferent cartoons.
So that was fun and we wereable to.
As part of your ticket you gotthe photo downloads from the
PhotoPass photos.
So that was nice.
We were able to get quite a fewnice photos that evening and

(10:43):
those were all included eveningand those were all included.
So if you didn't have a I don'teven know what they are for the
PhotoPass in California to beable to have the unlimited
downloads, but you got all ofyour photos from that night.
So everything that we did getwe were able to download.
And of course, they had you dolots of different scenes.
They were doing super coolprojections on the castle, so

(11:09):
they also had the projections onthe Matterhorn and you were
able to get photos and that wasreally great.
We got some really good photosand we looked nice in them For
once for me at least, and we hadbeen up for a long time, so I
was impressed it rained on us alittle bit.
We'd been up a long time, butthose photographers were great.
Now they also had one of theinfamous popcorn buckets.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Which one was it?

Speaker 1 (11:34):
It was Max from the Goofy movie.
Okay, so I felt like I wantedone, just because everybody was
in a frenzy for one.
But we didn't get it because Ireally have nowhere to use that
particular one.
Plus it's Max.
I mean, if you are really likeyou're into figment, if there
was a figment in the 90s bucket?

Speaker 2 (11:53):
yeah, of course, but for Max it's just no, thank you.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Yeah, we didn't stand in line for him and they also
had some merchandise for theevent.
I went over and I got anornament, my friend got a pin.
They were out of some of theitems by the time we got there,
but I got what I wanted.
I love Christmas, as most ofyou know, put lots of Christmas
trees up, so it was.
It was great.

(12:16):
I was able to get exactly whatI wanted.
They also had, so it's okay.
Here it was Powerline Maxbucket, so he was from the Goofy
movie, so he was Powerline Max.
So that was the big deal aboutit.
I will say especially about thepopcorn bucket and in
particular, maybe it's myMidwest point of view, but the

(12:36):
California people are way moreinto taking photos of themselves
than when you go to Florida.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Well, I think, yes, that is true.
There's a lot of selfies, a lotof photos.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
I think influencers were there a lot.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Yes, and there was, there was crews, there was
people who were dancing, andthen you had people with lights
and I mean it wasn'tprofessional, but it was what
you would expect to go on TikTokand Facebook reels and IG,
whatever.
It was a lot of it.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Yeah, so.
So we love all of our Disney, whatever.
It was a lot of it.
Yeah, so we love all of ourDisney California friends.
But I will say it's justchanged a lot in the last six or
seven years since we were outthere.
So at this party there were somany people posing with the Max
popcorn bucket everywhere, sothat was kind of a fun thing to
watch.
Now, later on in the night theyof course they had special

(13:26):
stage shows.
So there was a good mix ofentertainment.
And one thing that we couldn'tfigure out why there was a line
out the door for they had a 90ssing along.
We're like, oh, that would befun to go to.
Well, there was a line out thedoor because they had a special
guest that showed up totallyunannounced, planned, and I

(13:48):
think that's why the line got solong, because word got out,
probably online.
The special guest that appearedat the sing-along was Susan
Egan and she, of course, is fromHercules.
So I guess that I've saw somevideos that look super cool.
We walked by.
We're like, why is there such along line for the sing-along?
Well, now we know, because myfriend and I we wanted to go in

(14:09):
there.
They also had some danceparties going on over where
Fantasmic is Just a lot of justa fun vibe and atmosphere
throughout the night.
What was your favorite characterthat you saw?
Rouge McDuck, okay, well, Iparticularly liked some of the
backdrops.
I will say I was really intosome of the backdrops.

(14:29):
They had gummy bears.
I liked gummy, not gummy bears.
You eat gummy bears.
Liked gummy, not gummy bears.
You eat gummy bears.
The show of course that was fun.
Um, they also we also did likethe duck tails one.
Just there was tail spin whichI totally would have.
I had forgot about until I sawit.
Um, we didn't do all of thembut, like I mentioned, we did
the inspector gadget and that.

(14:50):
So I think that was a lot offun to me, really enjoyed it and
overall I think that we I feltlike we got our bang for our
buck.
We stayed till the end when thewell, here's the best part
though the parade.
I was going to say the parade.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Well, wait there, there is no event that we are
not there till the very end.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
That is true.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
We get our value for our vanessa rings out every
penny of entertainment now thatkind towards the end of the
night.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
So they had a special fireworks which we didn't watch
that.
But they had a parade and itwas on twice and we did our
normal strategy.
We watched the second one andthere, like at magic kingdom we
would have watched like fromfrontier land, there we went to
Small World by Small World andthat's where the parade kind of
ended.
The parade has the most catchyfun song.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
It is the best song.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
We've listened to it.
Number one when you're in theparade, you hear it at least
five to six times.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Oh, it's so great.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
It's awesome.
Then you want to listen to iton YouTube.
And then there's certain arethey stanzas?
I'm not really certain lyricslike verses.
Okay, thank you verses that youjust can't understand what
you're saying and your mind isscrambling to make up something
that makes sense.
I think we've listened to a lot.
I'm sorry, go ahead I was gonnasay.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
We even went on youtube and put on the the
captions, and in those sectionsthat it's driving us crazy.
It just says music.
So we are on a quest to get thewords to this song, but I don't
know the words.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
I want to know who the singer is.
I want to follow them.
It is such.
It's because you hear likethose brain worm songs where
once you hear, it's like in yourhead this is one that you're
like, please be in my head.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
So I will put a link to one of the YouTube clips that
somebody posted, because weagain we can't get it out of our
head.
But so the parade had thisgreat song and then what they
did is they had floats for someof the big, big cartoons that
came out during that era.
So there was Hercules, therewas Pocahontas, there was Mulan

(17:00):
I feel like I'm missing anotherone but the oh Lion King.
So they had floats and walkingcharacters for that.
So it was a lot of fun.
It wasn't super long, but thesong was great.
I think on the loop that I'vewatched online there's, it's
about 11 minutes long the wholething, but well worth it.
And then those characters theyhad all of the characters from
the parade at the end, kind oflike a kiss, good night, almost
at the train station when youwere leaving, and there was a

(17:22):
couple of the characters thatwere so into because they played
that song again.
So you heard the song againwhen you were leaving the park
and there were some charactersthat were so into it, which was
super fun to see.
And I think overall I don't knowthis was our first after hours
event at Disneyland, so I reallydon't have a comparison, but it
was something I would highlyrecommend If we, even though it

(17:45):
was the day we got there, I amso glad that we spent the money
and we went to it because it wasjust a fun night.
I think it was a great way forus to kick off our trip because
this was the first day of ourtrip and they had, besides the
parade, they also had, like Imentioned, they had the

(18:06):
sing-along.
They did have a dance partythat was with Goofy and Max.
We saw that one kind of from adistance when we were waiting in
line for some things.
They had a couple other justkind of like random pop-ups.
But overall, I think it wasreally great.
I would recommend it.
Hopefully Disney does it againbecause it seemed to be very

(18:27):
popular.
It did sell out.
So definitely, if you are atDisneyland, I would recommend
doing any of after-hours events.
It seemed like it was a greattime.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
It was awesome.
It's just it's a great time andif you're over, I would say
probably 38, 35, you'll love it.
I mean just because it's notjust characters that you've
watched but you grew up with andthat you before dvds and
youtube.
It's just a great time andpeople are happy.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
It's a great time yes , so I will share.
We'll share lots of pictures,I'll share some links to that
song so you can get that song inyour head as well, and we'd
love to hear from you and hearsome.
If any of you have attendeddifferent events at Disneyland,
I will say there's just a littlebit different vibe there than
what you experience in Florida,I think, because there are so

(19:25):
many local people there thatattend those events.
So it's just kind of a goodexperience and a great way to
kick off our time there.
So definitely we'll share lotsof information about it.
But before we wrap up, Again.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
We just wanted to share a great message from our
friends Eric and Alexa, withBabyQuip.
We used them on our trip Topservice, excellent product.
We got a stroller just becauseit was one of those things where
we traveled across the country.
It was too big and so, again,we're just very thankful.
Things where it's we traveledacross the country, it was too
big, and so again, we're justvery thankful they.
They came right to the hotel, they were prompt, they were on
time and very nice and gavegreat instruction.

(19:58):
So with that, as your baby quipindependent quality provider,
they will provide you withexcellent customer service.
Like we mentioned, awesomeproducts that you can use to
make your vacation easy.
Check the show notes for moreinformation.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Yes, and the great thing, as he kind of mentioned,
is that you can do it coast tocoast.
Baby Quip offers, eric andAlexa can service you in
California I'm sorry in Florida, and then we have some great
friends out in California thatwere able to help us out while
we were there.
So let's go ahead and wrap upour show as usual with our
two-minute trivia and our wisdomfrom Walt Quote Chris, you are

(20:35):
up with trivia.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
So I'm going to ask you one very easy question.
It's not the lyrics to thatsong, is it?
It is not, but what was thehighest grossing Disney animated
film in the 90s?
Lion.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
King, maybe You're right, and that was very easy.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
I mean that's.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
No, I wasn't sure.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Okay, so after that would be, I'll give you two.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
Hercules maybe.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
No, not even close.
Mulan, Not even close as well.
Hercules, Mulan is 10.
And this is animated movies, but it's all Disney at the top.
Mulan 10.
Herculescules 11.
So my question was number twowas Aladdin.
Oh, I didn't think aboutAladdin, I forgot about Aladdin.
Number three was Toy Story 2.

(21:19):
Which made more money?
Tarzan or Beauty and the Beast?
Beauty and the Beast no.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
No, I should have known that was the trick.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
But here's the thing In 1991, beauty and the Beast
made $424 million and eightyears later, 1999, tarzan earned
$448.
So, you'd think, with justinflation.
So that's the part.
I would argue that because Ihave never seen Tarzan and I've

(21:49):
seen Beauty and the Beast, beauty and the Beast is
technically the fourth highest.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
Tarzan has some good music.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
Yes, but I just reordered this list because of
my preference.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
Well, that's very interesting for sure.
So let's go ahead and we willwrap up with our Wisdom from
Walt quote.
And I thought this was greatbecause we talked about
something at Disneyland.
Disneyland has that thing theimagination and the feeling of

(22:21):
happy excitement I knew when Iwas a kid.
So, hopefully, exactly whatChris just said, and I picked
the quote before he even talkedabout it.
Just that nostalgia, taking youback to that time when you were
a kid.
That's what that whole eventwas all about.
