What does it truly take to build a successful global business? On this enlightening episode of Love Talks Radio, host Candace welcomes back her mentor and mother, Pat Anderson – the "original diva" who has inspired not just her daughter but countless women entrepreneurs worldwide.

Pat takes us on her remarkable journey from facing major health challenges at a young age to building an international network marketing organization spanning multiple continents. Her candid insights reveal how becoming truly coachable transformed her business trajectory. "When it really started to grow in my business is when I became coachable," Pat shares, explaining how surrounding herself with mentors and like-minded individuals created a foundation for sustainable success.

Despite already achieving significant success, Pat demonstrates why continuous learning remains essential at any age. At 61, she's tackling new social media marketing strategies, working with mentors to expand her digital presence across platforms like LinkedIn. Her powerful message resonates with entrepreneurs at every stage: "Times are changing so fast that if you don't grasp it and don't get with the plan, you're going to miss out." This commitment to evolution keeps her business thriving in an increasingly digital marketplace.

Pat closes with perhaps her most valuable advice – the importance of setting realistic expectations based on your actual commitment level. Too many aspiring entrepreneurs want enormous success without understanding the work required to achieve it. By aligning goals with genuine effort, business owners experience the satisfaction of meaningful progress rather than constant disappointment. From embracing the inevitable business "roller coaster" to finding the right mentor through careful research, Pat's wisdom offers a roadmap for women looking to build businesses that stand the test of time. Speaker 1 (00:21):
Love Talks Radio.
I'm really excited for whatwe've done and how we've evolved
.
Today we're going to actuallybe introducing a guest back onto
our show.
That's kind of been with ussince the beginning and I'm
really excited because this ladyhas been my mentor for many
years.
For a lot of you that have tunedin, you probably not know this,
but she is actually my mom andI'm really excited because I
always consider her and some ofour older shows that she is the

(00:44):
original diva in my family andshe's really been the motivation
and the inspiration for thethings that I've done in my life
.
And I'm going to be bringingher on today's show because I
really want you guys to, as Iwas saying, all of you new
listeners to get to know her,but our other listeners just to
see how she's evolving.
She is an amazing businesswomanbut even being in business as

(01:05):
long as she has, she's stilllearning and she's still
evolving too.
So I think it's going to beabsolutely a fantastic show and
I can't wait to begin.
So welcome to the show, PatAnderson.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Thank you, Candice.
I really appreciate you askingme on.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Well, you know I'm really excited.
We've had you on the show quitea few times.
You've mentored many women thathave been on as guests on our
show, but also our listeners, and you know it's really good to
have you back on.
But for any of our newlisteners, I just want you to
spend a few minutes here andtalk a little bit about yourself
and explain who you are.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Well, thank you.
Who am I?
I'm still trying to figure thatone out, candice.
As you know, I don't know whatI want to be when I grow up.
But you know, my life has hadsome challenges.
I've had a major illness from avery young age, and so my life
kind of revolved around that formany, many years.

(02:03):
And so, you know, I started offmy career in the accounting
field, owned many businesses inthat line, we owned a grocery
store together.
At times we did a lot ofdifferent things.
We had the horse ranch, but youknow, I always kept feeling
that God was saying, oh, youneed to do something different.
That is in the health.
So back in the 90s I started upRenew International and you

(02:27):
know, manufacturing, promotingproducts that were all about
health.
I needed to keep me healthy andI thought, you know what, what
better way to keep me healthythan to find great products or
manufacture them ourselves thatcan also help other people?
And so it has really evolvedaround that.

(02:48):
And 10 years ago I wasintroduced to a network
marketing company and I thought,oh, I don't want to do this.
You know, maybe I'll take theproduct.
But I started taking theproduct and I started
researching it, and it justchanged my life, and I knew
right away that I needed to payit forward to as many people as
possible and thus building aninternational business that

(03:13):
keeps me pretty busy hereCandice.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
That it does and you have an organization that's a
global organization, which is isamazing, and especially to a
lot of women that are probablytuning in today.
They're thinking it's like okay, well, I can start my own
business, but you've grown fromthe beginning.
But now it's an extremely bigbusiness and you've just been
networking over the years andit's not something that happened
overnight.
You were pretty brand new tothe network marketing industry,

(03:40):
but yet you've grown.
And how is it that you havedone that?
Just kind of explain the stepsand the processes that it's
taken you over the years to getto the point that you are.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Well, you know, when it really started to grow in my
business is when I becamecoachable.
And you know one of my mentors, david Moses, and another one,
max Steingart.
They say to me you know, areyou coachable, are you willing
to learn, are you willing tolisten and are you willing to
implement?
And I'm going to tell you thisis going to sound funny, but

(04:14):
there was days when maybe Iwasn't in a good mood or I was
tired or whatever, and Davidcalled me up and said are you
coachable today?
And I go no, and he'd hang upthe phone on me because what's
the sense of talking if I'm notgoing to hear the message that
he wants to, you know, to relayit to me.
And so I've had to learn andit's a good having to learn how

(04:38):
to be really coachable, tolisten to people that know a lot
more than I do, as you said.
You know, in the realm ofnetwork marketing, I don't have
near as many years as a lot ofpeople in this.
You know successful people inthe industry, but what I did was
I became very, very good at mytime management, I became really
good at implementing thingsthat could help the team grow

(04:59):
and I surrounded myself withpeople that wanted the same
thing that I did, surroundedmyself with people that wanted
the same thing that I did, and Ithink those are really key.
It's developing a team that wecan work, you know, hand in hand
with.
That has a common goal Candice.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Yes, and I understand that, and there's been
challenges.
You know not every business.
You know there's no businessout there that is perfect.
You've had your challenges.
It's been up and down.
It's been a roller coaster, hasit not?

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Oh, I don't know one business person that will ever
tell you things have gonesmoothly.
You know I love my corporateteam, but are there times when
they have frustrated me over theyears?
100%, just like I'm sure Ifrustrated them?
It's just part of doingbusiness.
We all have an ego, that's just.

(05:49):
You know, if you're going tomake it up to the higher ranks,
you're going to have an ego andpeople butt heads.
But that's okay Because youknow when you're discussing
things that maybe need to bechanged, you can work out a
compromise that's going to bebetter for everybody.
You know there should never be awin-win for only one person.

(06:11):
It has to be a win-win foreverybody.
And you know, of course rollercoasters are part of it.
They're part of the growing.
But if you don't go down on theroller coaster, you can never
go back up.
Go down on the roller coaster, you can never go back up.
Okay, so I embrace, actuallysome of the going down.
You know I might get frustrated, but then I start looking okay,

(06:31):
well, what can I do to bring itback up and bring it back up
higher than what it was before?
And I think I have a fairlygood analytical brain of you
know, analyzing my business andI spend a lot good analytical
brain of you know analyzing mybusiness and I spend a lot of
time doing that and I analyzedifferent parts of my business
to see different groups and whatthey're doing.

(06:52):
And it's not about me, it'sabout us.
All right, it can never beabout you.
That's probably the hardestthing, you know.
People go oh, it must be niceto be you and I'm going.
No, I have a great life.
But I said my success isbecause of how we have worked
together and it's a team success.

(07:14):
And you know, I really haveembraced that, candice, over the
years.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
And I think that's important to understand all of
our divas out there.
You know, I know that there isthose struggles and those
moments that you feel so down inthe dumps and you know, and
packed, and you know myselfbeing in network marketing also
over the years it's you get tothose points and realizing that,
okay, what am I going to do nowto change that?

(07:44):
And in any company that you'rewith, you can always change it.
You can go back up and you'velearned over the years too.
There's just different stepsthat you can do.
I know over the weekend you'vedone some training and I find
that quite fascinating because,as a woman that's been in
business for so many years, Ilove to see that you're now
still learning.
It's always a learning curveand I think I want to see that

(08:05):
you're now still learning.
It's always a learning curveand I think I want to spend a
couple minutes talking aboutthat, because I think sometimes
we as people, and if we've had alot of success or some success,
we stop and we almost like weplateau.
And you know, I want to talk toyou because even though you're
very successful, you keeplearning and I want to, you know
, spend a couple moments.
Can you share about that now?

Speaker 3 (08:29):
I could be a professional student is what I
could be.
I could just go to school allthe time.
So I am always taking courses.
You know, there's always a bookin front of me of some sort
there's always and I love to domotivational books.
But I just love to learn.
So I'm doing a course right nowto get into my next degree and

(08:50):
it's just for me, it's not to,it's not to put behind my name
or anything, and in fact you'llnever see me put any of my
degrees behind my name.
I like to go to school so that Ilearn.
And so right now I'm 61 yearsold and I am absolutely
horrendous at the social mediaplatform at times, and so I've

(09:16):
been trying to learn and I'vehad so many things that I've
introduced to our team, but Iwould have an expert teach them.
It's never going to be mebecause I'm not an expert.
And so this past weekend, asyou said, you know I had
somebody doing a boot camp forus teaching.
You know Max was teaching us.
You know how to be better, howto build our business on social

(09:38):
media, and actually at 7.30 thismorning I was on with him for
an hour and he's teaching me andhe says we are going to teach
this old dog new tricks and youknow I'm going to be spending a
lot of time learning how to dothis effectively.
Okay, I don't want to.
Just you know, you know howmuch I love posting pictures of
my grandkids.
You know, but I also want tobuild a business through

(10:02):
LinkedIn too, and so learningthe proper words, you know
that's a skill, it's not justmaking a post, it's how you say
things, and so I'm going tospend the next three months
working excessively hard atbuilding my online business, and

(10:22):
I've got a lot of the teammatesare working with me and and
it's a lot of fun actually.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
And this is something that any business can do,
correct.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Oh, I think it doesn't matter what type of
business you're in.
You need to be, you know, havean online presence.
And there's nothing wrong withhaving a page that is for your
personal and, you know, all yourfamily stuff.
But then having a business pagewhere you are promoting whether

(10:56):
you have a grocery store or youhave a hairdressing salon, it
doesn't matter.
You need an online businessbecause the millennials that's
how they do business.
They want to be able to findsomebody on a social media
platform.
Take a look at you know whothey are, and then they're going
to do business with you, butthey're going to research you

(11:17):
before they start doing business.
That's just how they do things.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
You know and I'm finding this quite interesting
too and for our listeners youknow, I took my children to a
hair salon and in order to getinto this hair salon, you
actually book online theappointment.
You don't even phone into thesepeople anymore, you book online
, there's an appointment, youbook it and it's set.
And I find that interestingbecause that's what they had to
explain too is that most of thepeople just want to do stuff off

(11:45):
their phone, and I'm finding, too with myself.
We do a lot of things on ourphone.
We have all of our social media, we have our email, we have our
text, our LinkedIn, twitter andeverything seems to be on our
phone, and some of the thingsthat you learned this weekend,
pat, are based on mobility.
Can you talk a little bit aboutthat?

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Yeah, and I use my phone more than I use, of course
, even my laptop, and I haveeverything set up so that I can,
you know, receive my messages,of course, on my phone.
But I just want to make onepoint here Because we're so busy
typing things instead ofverbalizing them, we're losing

(12:30):
the art of communication, okay,so this can be a drawback at
times.
So my goal is to learn how towrite, how I would speak, and I
need to portray my feelingsthrough my writing.
Okay, because sometimes peoplejust don't want to talk to you.

(12:51):
They only want to text or emailor, you know, messenger, any of
those types of things.
So, learn how to be aneffective writer, and I think
you know I'm actually taking acourse on that right now, too,
because I want to make sure thatI'm writing exactly how I would
say.
You know what I want to portray, so it's just something to

(13:15):
think about.
I love that.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Well, you know, and I think it's important because
sometimes you'll get these textmessages or you see things and
there's words and I laughbecause I have to ask my
teenager so what does that mean?
I have no idea what thathashtag or what those two
letters mean, but they know, they have a new language, but
it's hard for us sometimes tounderstand that and I think
you're right, it's all about thecommunication and you know.

(13:40):
Getting back to, I would liketo say the basics.
I love to talk to peopleone-on-one.
I love to you know, spend timeface-to-face with people, but
unfortunately we live in asociety now that we are very
global and we can't beface-to-face with a lot of
people.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
But, like you're saying, if we're able to
communicate in a very positiveway in a way that's going to be
effective, then that's whatwe're going to have to do.
Well, you know, I'm building myinternational business
throughout Europe right now.
There's no way I could beflying back and forth and back
and forth to build it.
It just couldn't happen.

(14:23):
And yet, you know, we'vecreated almost a thousand people
in the last two months throughsocial media, and so it's just.
Times are changing, but they'rechanging so fast that if you
don't grasp it and you don't getwith the plan, you're going to
miss out on it.
Okay, and I'm going to tell you, sometimes it's harder when you
get a little older, you get setin your ways.
But if you want to build abusiness, you have to evolve

(14:45):
around what is happening in theprofession that you're in.
You have to make those changesif you want to continue in
business and, as I said, I don'tcare what business you're in
you have to make those changes.
If you want to continue inbusiness and, as I said, I don't
care what business you're inyou have to learn what's current
and do your research and thenmake the changes.
And if you don't know how tomake the changes, get a mentor

(15:06):
that will help you.
And that's what I've done.
I've surrounded myself withpeople that will help me be a
better me.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
And that's what I was going to ask you right there is
how do you find, how do youknow how to be current?
But you're saying find thosementors.
Is it hard to find thosementors, or is there people out
there that are willing to dothis mentorship with people?

Speaker 3 (15:31):
There's a.
Okay, this is going to soundfunny, but you know, once again,
if you're looking for a mentor, you better do your correct
research, because there are alot of scammers out there, and
that's just you know.
That's just a fact.
So start doing your reading.
You know, pull up on Google andsearch whatever type of mentor

(15:52):
you want.
You're going to get lists ofall different types of different
people and then basically whatyou're going to do is interview.
Don't just pick the first one, interview that they're going to
be a perfect fit for you.
So have a couple ofconversations with them.
If they're a good mentor andare very respectable, et cetera,

(16:15):
they'll do a couple ofconversations with you, free of
just making sure that you're agood fit, because if they're not
a good fit, it you're not.
Nobody's going to win, okay, they're going to waste their
time and you're for sure goingto waste time and money.
So make sure you do yourresearch.
For me, I wanted a mentor thatwas a professional in my

(16:40):
industry and you know he's inour company.
I've known him for a long time,so that was a perfect fit for
me.
You know he was alreadysuccessful when it came to the
social media and Max.
I went looking.
I'm going to be honest.
I looked at everybody out thereand I did my research, and I
did my research and I did mytalking and we've had a
relationship for seven years nowand I don't regret one minute

(17:03):
of it.
So do your due diligence.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
I think that's important because you're right,
there's a lot of individuals outthere and you really have to be
careful.
And I know our divas thatlisten to our program.
They're very enthusiastic.
They're really taking the tipsthat our guests come on and
share.
But Pat is saying somethingreally important that make sure
that you do your research.
Maybe ask for referrals, dosome networking.

(17:30):
We have a great page, theChangemakers Cafe.
You can always post differentquestions on there asking okay,
who are you using for a mentor?
Ask those questions because alot of people out there they're
willing to help out and ourdivas out there that's what they
want.
They want you to succeed, theywant you to thrive.
So make sure that you areasking people.
Ask those questions becausethey're very important.

(17:51):
Pat, I know that you're reallybusy, but I just want to spend a
couple minutes.
You've had an amazingconversation.
You've talked a lot of greatthings, but what kind of tips
and tools can you leave ourdivas today?

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Dig deep.
This is going to probably sounda little harsh.
So many people want it sound alittle harsh, so many people
want it.
They want to be at the top oftheir company, they want to be
one of the best businesses outthere, etc.
But they're not willing to dothe work that it takes to get

(18:31):
there.
And I get this every single day.
I get calls in and they go well, I just can't do it.
No, you're not working hardenough to do it, and it's okay.
I always ask people what is yourreal goal?
What do you really want?
And I want the truth.
I want to be at my level.
I'm going to tell you you'regoing to have to work hard.

(18:51):
You're going to have to reallywork hard, dig deep, put in the
hours at times that you don'twant to put in, but that's what
it takes If you want to.
You know in your business, youknow, be just a really good
business.
You know you want to be likedby everybody, have a good
clientele.
It's not probably going to takeas much work.

(19:16):
So I think what I'm trying tosay is you really have to set
the proper goals to what you areactually going to do.
People are really funny that way.
They want everything butthey're just not willing to do
the work to get it.

(19:37):
So I would rather somebody sayto me you know what?
I've only got five hours, tenhours a week, that's all I have.
What do you think I can achievein that five or ten hours?
And I'm going to be bluntlyhonest and say this is where you
can be.
And they're so excited whenthey reach their goal because it
was a, it was a correctexpectation.

(19:58):
Don't, don't give peopleexpectations based on you know.
You know getting them to thetop when you know, with the
amount of work that they'regoing to put in, they're never
going to get there.
Do an expectation that they canachieve and they're going to be
so excited that maybe they'llput some extra hours in to get

(20:19):
to a higher ranking, get to ahigher level in their business
whether it's, you know, corporately or their own
business but set the properexpectations, okay.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
Candice, I love that.
No, I think that's absolutelythe best tip ever, because I
think it's important.
It is If you don't have thetime to put into what it is to
achieve those goals, then it'shard.
And I love that, because that'swhat a real mentor does with
you guys, ladies, and that's whyyou need to check them out is
having somebody that will talkto you and be real with you.

(20:56):
Pat Anderson has been a mentorof mine for many years and has
really put me on my path tosuccess and showing me that and
she keeps me in check.
You know, even though you know,as I said, she is my mom, but
she's also been a businesspartner of mine, and you need
those people in order to say, okay, this is family, this is
business, and with her and I,we've been able to navigate

(21:19):
through that and and it's beenwonderful and you know what.
Thank you so much for being myguest today.
It's always a pleasure to haveyou on.
It's always a pleasure to haveyou share your tips and your
tools with our listeners, because I know that you have a
lot of experience and we, as Isaid, we really appreciate it.
So thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
Well, thank you, Candice, and I can't tell you
how proud I am of you and allyou're doing.
And hey, listeners, you knowyou've got a good one in my
daughter here, so I'm reallyexcited about what's happening
