Det er efterår, og den svenske hær er i Jylland, hvor oberst Sparre har slået lejr ved Kolding. På Sjælland flygter adelen mod København, mens gøngerne samler sig omkring Svend Poulsen i en modstandsbevægelse. Det gør Gøngehøvdingen til en uønsket mand set med svenske øjne.
