(00:18):
Hello everybody, and welcome. Myname is Matt Berrard. I'm a partner
in the Detroit office of Bowman andBrooke LLP. And I am your incoming
DRI Aviation Law Committee Chair, extremelyhappy to be here, and I am
your co host for this episode ofDRI Aviation Law Committee's very own Wingtips podcast
(00:40):
series, where in each episode wetalked to DRI members and other notable guests
about the practice of aviation law andemerging topics in aviation. As I mentioned,
I am co hosting today with avery special co host, our incoming
vice chair, Stephanie Short. Stephanie, why don't you go ahead and introduce
yourself to our listeners. Well, thank you very much, Matt. I'm
(01:03):
Stephanie Short, and I'm the deputydirector of Aviation Claims for a great American
insurance company and i am located inBellingham, Washington. I'm very excited to
be vice chair of the group thisyear. So Matt, what can we
look forward to in twenty twenty four. Well, that's a great question,
Stephanie. Thanks for the question. As you know, we both just took
(01:26):
over our roles in our new capacitieshere as a chair and vice chair back
last week and we're both very excitedto get started, and we have a
couple of things that we are lookingforward to in twenty twenty four. Number
one is that our committee is knownacross DRI and perhaps beyond for being one
(01:51):
of the best committees with the bestpodcast in all of DRIs. So we
are looking forward to keeping the momentumrolling on our podcast series, which have
been extremely well received and have hadexcellent, excellent guests and great content as
well. Also looking forward to extremelyinformative and in depth publications that we are
(02:15):
also known for addressing the cutting edgeissues in aviation law or even new developments
in the law that might have someapplicability to aviation. And then we're hoping
in twenty twenty four for two mainthings. Number one, we're hoping to
(02:35):
host our own webinar or even possiblyan in person seminar for the DRI Aviation
Committee alone. We are also exploringrevamping or getting involved again in the Avacon
program with RTI. Again, thoseare things that are being discussed right now,
(02:58):
and we will have more information aboutthose as the year goes on,
but that's what we're working on nowfor our in person seminars now that we
are all done and over with COVID. We're all ready to get back together
and have some in person seminars andmost importantly, and the thing I am
most excited for is the annual meetingin twenty twenty four. I know,
(03:22):
we just had our annual meeting lastweek in San Antonio, Texas. It
was a fantastic time. Everybody hada great time from the Aviation Committee.
We did some acts throwing. Thatwas a good time. And we are
known for picking some of the bestrestaurants in the cities that we go to
and we have incredible dinners with ourAviation Committee members. I still remember the
(03:43):
dinner from Philadelphia at a restaurant calledElvez Like that's how good our dinners are
with our committee. And so I'mlooking extremely forward to that in Seattle,
and Seattle being a great aviation city, we are hoping to do some big
things with the dri Aviation Law Committee. And again stay tuned for what we're
doing there, because we are planningout already a year ahead and we're hoping
(04:05):
to see great things in Seattle.Great city to be in if you've never
visited again, a lot of aviationinfluence out there. So enough about what
we've planned to do for our committeein the next year. Stephanie, what
are some of the ways that someof our listeners or members can get involved
(04:27):
in our dri Aviation Law Committee.First, we are always looking for members
to serve on our leadership. Wehave a number of leadership roles open.
Please get in touch with Matt ormyself if you would like to get involved
in leadership. As Matt mentioned,we are also always looking for people to
write articles on cutting edge aviation lawtopics, any new developments in the law.
(04:50):
This is a great way to getpublished, especially for associates looking to
break into the aviation law realm. This is a great way to get some
exposure. And finally, as Mattmentioned, our group is known for our
excellent Wingtip series podcast. If youhave a topic that you want to host
(05:10):
a podcast on, if you havea great and exciting aviation related guest,
we'd love to hear from you,So please let us know if you would
like to host a podcast, we'dbe happy to have you. And of
course I am very excited to seeeveryone in Seattle next year in my home
state, and very excited to geteveryone out to the West coast and show
everyone what the Pacific Northwest is about. Thanks so much. Well, that's
(05:34):
excellent. I think we all allare looking forward to that, Stephanie,
and as you can tell, weare very excited with all the things that
are coming up in the next year. We hope you get involved in our
committee. We have a place foryou. But overall, thank you so
much for listening to this episode ofDRI Wingtips from the Aviation Law Committee.
