Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, Hello friends. My name is air Cast.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
As you know, and I'm Bethany White.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
We are so excited to begin the first official Women
in the Law Wittle podcast. Say hello to my wittle friends.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Hello, friends, Yes, yes.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Love it, love it. We're so excited for this podcast.
There are other committees within DRI, which we'll talk about
in a second, that have their podcasts, and we really
we feel like our committee in particular has a lot
of really awesome, badass women that we want to highlight
and get on here so that you guys can all
get to know us. So, as I just alluded to Bethany,
(00:43):
you want to talk a little bit about what DRI is.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Sure, So DRI is a bar organization for lawyers who
represent businesses. So pretty much everyone involved in the organization
represents small to largeezed business in all their legal needs.
I know, we'll get into who we are and what
we do in a second, but that is the primary
purpose of DRI and the type of lawyers in DRI.
(01:08):
Within DRI, there are various subcommittees for substantive practice areas
and then for certain affinity groups, Women in the Law
being one of them. So within our committee, what we
really focus on are the issues unique to women in
the practice of law, both in private practice and just
outside the practice of law, juggling those issues that are
(01:29):
unique to women in the profession. So and it's really
become a committee. I think of sisterhood and friendship and
support and being there for one another as we all
are kind of on what I would say a difficult
professional journey.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
One hundred percent. Yeah, awesome. Do you want to talk
a little bit about yourself?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Well, no, not right now, because I'm gonna let you
talk about yourself first.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
But I see what you did there, So hello again.
My name is Erica. I am assistant general at Sigsur.
I've recently just took this job in February. I've recently
made partner at my law firm in Pennsylvania. We had
SIGs Hour as a client and I was involved with
(02:15):
the trial team for them, and then the company asked
me to come join them after the trial, which was
super awesome. So I just recently moved to New Hampshire
from Pennsylvania, went from the law firm life to the
in house life. So it's been a big transition, but
lots and lots of fun. I did a lot of
products liability, I promises liability, car accident, flip and falls,
(02:38):
those kinds of cases at my law firm, and now
just doing whatever the company needs me to do. So yeah,
that's a little bit about me in my professional life.
In my personal life, I love yoga. I'm a yoga instructor.
In all of my free time, I love to teach mine, meditation,
(03:02):
mindful movement, breath work, all of those kinds of fun things.
So that's a little bit about me.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Turn it back oversity, so similar life journeys a little bit.
But my name is Bethany White. I am senior counsel
at Evans and Dixon in their Chicago office. It's a
recent move for me too. Prior to that, I was
at a law firm for a very long time and
made a move in May, which was exciting but a
big change. I do workers compensation defense is one of
(03:36):
my primary practice areas, and then also just general liability
insurance defense works the same thing. Premises a lot of
experience in products liability, popcorn, lung litigation. I did that
for a number of years and I'm still doing some
work and with pulmonary injury cases, which is you know,
for a nerdy lawyer. I love a good product, liability
case with with a with a with a meaty lung injury.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
I live.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
I have to do some outside general council work for
small and medium sized businesses, just general risk management advising
and that sort of thing, especially in the employment end
and liability, and so that's kind of what I do
on the day today. And then for fun, I am
a mom of two, single mom. I live in Chicago
(04:23):
with my daughter and my son and my daughter's ten.
My son is six, so I am busy with them
a lot, and with work, I do a lot of
stuff with them. I do a lot of mom and stuff,
so like crafting, bike riding, watching movies, playing video games.
And then when I get my own spare time. I'm
a foodie. I love a good restaurant. I love music.
(04:44):
I am a sucker for a good or a bad
TV show that I'll sit and binge watch. So you
you know, your typical elder millennial bullshit. So love ninety stuff,
Love love all of that too. So that's a little
bit about me. So, Erica, do you want to tell
them a little bit about what is planned for the podcast? Sure?
Speaker 1 (05:03):
So we are really looking as I mentioned a little
bit ago to highlight the women that are in our organization.
So if you're listening and you're not involved in DRI,
that's totally okay. You can feel free to reach out
to Bethany or I or anyone in the organization. I'm sure,
and we'd be happy to get you more information, but
(05:25):
we'd all specifically, we have a lot of really awesome
women in our group, and what happens every year at
we have a yearly seminar. This year it's coming up
in February in Orlando, which we're super excited about and
we'll have another another episode about it, so stay tuned
for sure. But what happens every year is we go
(05:47):
to these seminars and women speak at the seminar and
they share their story and we hear more about them,
and everyone is like, oh wow, like that's so cool.
We didn't even know this about you, or you know,
we only know you and the profess realm. So we
really want to take this opportunity to highlight a lot
of the women, both leaders and just regular members within
our group and showcase them and get to, you know,
(06:11):
talk about what they do in their professional spaces, but
also what they like to do for fun hobbies, interests. Well,
we'll have some fun icebreakers. So yeah, that's that's really
the real of this podcast.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Yeah, we just want to keep it light and we want,
you know, to kind of extend I think that feeling
that we all get from this committee, which is that
feeling of community and that feeling it's like woo oo.
It sounds that feeling of kind of sisterhood and having
your your personal board of directors. I keep going back
to that grace, but it is so relevant and on point.
So and I think we're going to try it first
(06:48):
to come to you at least once a quarter if
we can. And then you know, Eric and and I,
as you know, or as we've just told you, are
very busy, so we're not going to be your long
term host. We're hoping you get new faces, you know,
once a year to move on with us and this
becomes a long term labor of love for our committee.
So that's what we're hoping, and we hope you tune
(07:11):
in so.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Totally, And if you would like to be a guest
on our podcast, please reach out to us because we're
always going to be looking for guests as well. So yeah, awesome. Well, well,
we'll sign off for the first little segment of our podcast.
Thanks for tuning in. Be sure to listen in for
some more episodes with our guests. And for now, you
want to sign us off, Bethany.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
We're saying goodbye to our little friends.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Bye bye friends.
