Speaker 1 (00:00):
Africa ZONEX at Africa Milanie. This coming Friday, it's Mandela
Day and all week this week at this time, we're
highlighting incredible organizations and the work that they are doing
to i suppose, improve the plight of humanity, and they're
inviting you, of course to come and join them for

(00:21):
those sixty seven minutes. Today we're joined by Monique Miller.
Monique is the project manager for the Greater Tiger Book
Partnership Waste Management. Monique, you're very good morning and welcome
to the show.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Good morning, thanks for having us on the show today.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
All right, let's talk about the work that you are
doing in the Greater Tiger Berg Partnership and more importantly,
how you want listeners to come and join you this
Mandela Day to make a difference.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yes, of course, so our work with Greater Tiger Book
Partnership and the INNGLS in the Greater Tiger Book area,
our main focus is on social and economica open in
the area. But the real project we are focusing on
Forment Data Day is on our Life Change in Garden

(01:08):
as the mist safe space in Babo. So the garden
initially started during COVID nineteen pandemic when two individuals who
lived in the shelter began planting vegetables to provide food.
And when the GDP saw this, we were inspired and
we immediately got involved. We saw the boot short transform

(01:29):
this unuse piece of land into something meaningful such as
a sustainable food garden which empowers the as individuals through
work skills development and to restore their dignity. So this
garden is more than just a garden, you know, it
is a place of help and transformation for this one

(01:52):
data day. This initiative is made possible by Aguaza and
core to Care really wanted to honor Mediva's legacy in
a way that I really uplift vulnerable communities and we
just felt like the life change re God And it's
a perfect foot you know, it embodies everything Madela Day

(02:15):
stays for service, sustainability and social impacts.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
And what I like about this initiative, Monique, is that
if you live in the urban centers in South Africa,
you will always be sometimes overwhelmed actually by homeless people
who are begging right and who are asking for money,
a little bit of help. And instead of giving cash,
sometimes you don't have cash to give. Sometimes you're concerned

(02:40):
that that catch is going to be used for drugs
and substance abuse, for example. This is an incredible way
of giving back to to those whose plight is desperate.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Perhaps yes, basically, I mean this initial us have you know,
has impact many homeless individuals. We we we things about
its not giving a hand out, but a hand up.

(03:13):
And these individuals, you know, they come from the street,
they are they are being taken in by the mess.
They go to a work business program and that has
been the GDP into enrolled in into our projects. Where
is our cycling project, waste management projects, or our gardening projects?
And I mean it. It gives him the scenes of pride

(03:35):
and the scenes of ownership. And we have amazing, amazing
the sex stories you know that have come out of
these initiatives. Just for to give you an example, we
have our our garden manager who came from the streets

(03:56):
and it's now managing our garden. He moved from the
shower into its own place and we are now playing
lint and it is amazing to see how the garden
is touch lives and how it also touched my life,
you know, just to see the outcome that it tires
on these individuals.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, absolutely amazing, Monica. I'm going to invite listeners to
go to your website, which is g TP stands for
Greater Tiger Book Partnership g TP dot org dot a day,
and I imagine that's where they can sign up to
be part of this incredible initiative on Mandala Day. Right, Yes, fantastic.
I will you a wonderful, wonderful Mandala Day on Friday

(04:38):
and continue impacting so positively in such a desperately needed space.
Monique Miller is the project manager for the Greater Tiger
Book Partnership Waste Management and inviting you to consider the
life Changing Garden as your Mandala Day initiative alongside with
them this Friday. All you have to do is go
