Speaker 1 (00:00):
Breakfast. Let's talk to Bertha Mordianna and our campaign officer
at four Pause. Bertha, very good morning and welcome to
the show.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Thank you so much Africa, and good morning to you
and the listeners.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Were a week away from Mandela Day, where we're all
invited to set aside sixty seven minutes or sixty seven
units to obviously celebrate the length of the time that
the late Nelson Mandela was incarcerated, as he was no
not incarcerated, the length of time he was active in politics,

(00:33):
as he was fighting to attain our political freedom, and
obviously the first term of his presidency post nineteen ninety four.
What are you inviting listeners to consider doing with four Pause.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Well, four Pause has a wonderful project. It's called the
sixty seven Kennels of Hope, and this initiative was really
inspired by a combination of compassion and community service and
obviously the legacy of Nelson. And so this initiative aligns
with the spirit of Mandela, which encourages people to dedicate
at least sixty seven minutes of their time to community service,

(01:08):
which symbolizes, as you've said, sixty seven years that Nelson
Mandela spent fighting for social justice. So four posts translated
this into providing sixty seven kennels, one for each year
of Mandela's public service as a tribute to his legacy
of dignity, compassion and k So with this initiative, we
have undertaken to support a vulnerable community and from last

(01:29):
year in collaboration with Zananda Animal Clinic, this campaign focuses
on a community of Kilta where many pet owners, despite
facing financial hardships, are deeply committed to their animals well
being and k So these owners ensure that their pets
are vaccinated, they are sterilized and deeply cared for, but

(01:50):
they often lack the resources to provide proper shelter for them.
So we are providing these shelters or these kennels for
these very deserving dogs and their dog.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Owners because sadly it does take resources, is it not
to care for animals? I know from having a family
dog for example, for many many, in fact many dogs
over many, many years, it's not only the cost of
feeding them, but taking them for checkups when they are
not feeling well, ensuring that they're suitably exercised, you know,

(02:24):
whatever sort of means and ways of trying to get
the fleas off their coat. You know, it does all
add up to truly care for an animal.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Absolutely, absolutely, you are quite right, and this is why
we work with partners like Zananda Animal Cuinic because they're
in the community trying to bridge that gap, because they
have identified that these community members love their animals, they
love the companion ship that they get from their dogs
and their kids. However, due to a lack of resources,

(02:57):
sometimes they're not able to care for them in their
right way, and so they are there centered in the
heart of Kilta to ensure that they can help these
pet owners. But then four Posts obviously then identifies partners
like Vananda and others that are working in such communities
to see how we can work together and to ensure

(03:17):
that those that love their pets care for them are
able to also be provided with the resources. These per
people that are going to be on the beneficiary list
of these sixty seven kennels, people that Xananda has been
working with for years. So these are good pet owners.
They ensure that their pets are vaccinated, they ensure that

(03:40):
their paths are sterilized, and they're not contributing to some
of the issues that unsterilized pets contribute to in our communities.
So together we put that waiting list together and we
always go back and say, what are the needs of
these people because they need the support, because they love
and care for their pets just as much as the

(04:00):
rest of the people that have the means to take
care of their paths.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
What can listeners do to help?

Speaker 2 (04:06):
