He is famous for his acutely lyrical and emotional poetry, as well as his turbulent personal life. The originality of his work makes categorization difficult. His works include the poems "Do not go gentle into that good night" and "And death shall have no dominion", as well as the "play for voices" Under Milk Wood. He also wrote stories and radio broadcasts such as the piece we share today, A Child's Christmas in Wales, as well as Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog. Charles Dickens (1812 – 1870) was an English novelist, journalist, short story writer and social critic. He created some of literature's best-known fictional characters, and is regarded by many as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. His notable works include the piece we excerpt today, "A Christmas Carol," as well as "Oliver Twist," and "Great Expectations," all still quite popular today.
