Betty hat grad eine Ausbildung als Kinderkrankenpflegerin abgeschlossen und will die Welt entdecken – als Au-pair. Als sie die Zusage von einer Gastfamilie in San Francisco bekommt, sieht alles nach einem perfekten Match aus. Betty soll sich um das acht Monate alte Baby der Familie kümmern. Die Gasteltern sind sehr wohlhabend, leben in einer Villa mit allen Annehmlichkeiten wie Gym, Pool, Jacuzzi und Weinkeller. Betty fliegt mit ihnen in den Urlaub nach Mexiko und Paris. Doch schon kurz nach ihrer Ankunft wird Betty klar: Die Gasteltern kümmern sich kaum um das eigene Baby, das ist jetzt Bettys Job. Manchmal arbeitet sie bis zu 70 Stunden in der Woche obwohl nur 45 Stunden erlaubt sind.
