Recientemente, la religión católica conmemoró la Pasión de Cristo, recordando los pasajes más importantes previos a la crucifixión de Jesucristo. En este sentido, el arte barroco novohispano, se encargó de pintar, plasmar de forma artística y pedagógica estos pasajes sacros con el objeto de evangelizar las tierras americanas.
