År 1933 etableras Nazityskland och människor börjar fly förtrycket -- inte minst kommunister, socialdemokrater och fackföreningsfolk. I många fall var dessa människor dessutom judar. I Sverige organiserar sig flyktingvänner i organisationer som kommunistiska "Röda hjälpen", socialdemokratiska "Arbetarrörelsens Flyktinghjälp" och den till stora delar liberala "Insamlingen för landsflyktiga intellektuella". Deras verksamhet under 1930-talet präglas av politisering, konflikter och konkurrens. Men också av medmänsklighet, moral och en vilja att hjälpa i en polariserad tid då flyktinghatet hade mäktiga röster. Historikern Pär Frohnert har skrivit boken "Hjälp våra flyktingar" (2025) om de tre organisationernas arbete 1933-1939. Han samtalar med Henrik Arnstad och Ola Larsmo.
