Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're all one. No matter how poor this believer is
or how wealthy this believer is, we share in God's
inheritance of his family.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Doesn't matter you know, the poor and the rich, what
status you have, what you've done in life, how much
you've accomplished or didn't accomplish. God sees through a different lens,
a lens of justice, a lens of righteousness. He looks
at the heart. Oh, what that heart is filled with.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
That's right. So, guys, welcome back to faith and familiar.
We're excited to spend time with you today. Where we
at booth in today's verse.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Yes, so so far we've talked about trials and temptations.
We talked about listening and doing, and now we're going
to favoritism forbid. And we're in James. In the Book
of James. We read chapter one and now we are
entering chapter two. So, my brothers and sisters, believers, and
our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. Suppose
(01:08):
a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring
and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old
clothes also comes in. If he show special attention to
the man wearing fine clothes and say here's a good
seat for you. But say to the poor man you
stand there, or sit on the floor by my feet?
Have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with
(01:29):
evil thoughts? Listen, my dear brothers and sisters. Has not
got chosen those who are poor in the eyes of
the world to be rich in faith and to inherit
the kingdom, he promised those who love him. But you
have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who
are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are
dragging you into court? Are they not the ones who
(01:51):
are blaspheming the noble name of Him to whom you belong.
If you really keep the royal law found in scripture,
love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing right. But
if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by
the law as lawbreakers. For whoever keeps the whole law
and yet stumbles at just one point, it's guilty of
(02:12):
breaking all of it. For he who said you shall
not commit adultree also said you shall not murder. If
you do not commit adultree, but you do commit murder,
you have become a lawbreaker speak and act as those
who are going to be judged by the law that
gives freedom, because judgment without mercy will be shown to
anyone who has not been murdiful mercy triumph over judgment.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Wow. Powerful, that's a lot to unpacking that verse. It's
super powerful. Favoritism being forbidden, That's what James is articulating
in this verse. And what does that look like for
us these days? How do we not show favoritism to
the CEO or the president or you know this wealthy
(02:56):
rapper or basketball player? Like, how do we not show favoritism?
Speaker 2 (03:00):
I personally what I do because personally, genuinely, titles they
don't impress me. Could be the president, I honor these
leaders and honor these people and what they've done, But
I don't. It doesn't impress me because at the end
of the day, God is King, He's ruler. He made
(03:20):
us under him, like we are equal in God's eyes.
Just because you have a title doesn't mean that you're
above me or under like I just always see it
like God, like I don't. Titles don't impress me, just
because you know, God, God is God is the one
that will made everyone. You know, he is the one
(03:42):
that we need to like. Yes, he does, he does.
But it even talks about how God shows no favoritism.
Like God, it doesn't matter you know, the poor and
the rich, what status you have, what you've done in life,
how much you've accomplished or didn't accomplish. God sees through
a different lens, a lens of justice, a lens of righteousness.
(04:05):
He looks at the heart. Oh what that heart is
filled with?
Speaker 1 (04:09):
That's right. So yeah, the scripture is clear. I believe
this in Jeremiah where he says, lets the rich man
not boasting his riches, that let the wise man not
boasting his wisdom, let the strong man not boast in
his might. But let the one who boasts who boasting
this that I am the Lord God who exercises righteousness,
(04:30):
justice and all these things. And that you know me
boasting that. When we know God, it changes everything. Think
about the person that I think about, And it's so
clear throughout the scripture is Jesus himself. Whenever he was
about to commence his ministry, he was literally about to
start ministry. He went up to John the Baptist, no
(04:51):
other than the John the Baptist, and he was like, hey,
baptize me, and John the Baptist responds with not like yes,
get the badftized Jesus. He was like, no, I'm not
even worthy that I'm tied the straps off your sandals.
And he was like and basically, let the least of
these like I'm the least of these, basically like, let
(05:15):
me decrease so the Lord increases. It changes everything faith
and familiar. Well, yeah, this is.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Our kidd a six years.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Old, and he loves.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
God for doing a vible study on James. I'm not
showing paritism to other people, but but yeah, I think
a great way that we can honor other people is
to not discriminate who walks in the room and who
does not walk in the room. And there's they don't
hold to a higher standard. The person that that looks,
(05:47):
you know, well, taking care of that has the money
and save a seat for that person.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Be w.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
You know what I'm saying, right.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
What is it? AMG? I don't know, AMG the AMG
BMW put that on the screen. I think somebody else,
okay it needs to see that car. Don't favoritism because
somebody's dropping that car. Even someone would begging for a
bucket of water holds us the same amount of value
as that person. We all have inherit. So in error, inherit, inherit,
(06:18):
is it inherent value from the Lord does eternally value?
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yes, I think what makes us rich is really having
Jesus living inside of us in our heart. And so
if that person may look outwardly poor and not to
what you're looking what you were expecting, but he's probably
so rich in God. Yeah, and versus. I'm not saying
that the rich may not have God. But if this
person is rich but lacks God like actually doesn't have
(06:46):
the riches of your bankrupt, yes, you're actually broke spiritually,
so a great way. Yeah, Like I said, it's honoring
the poor, giving the seat and giving out your seat
and give it to someone that may not look like
you or like someone else in the room that is
well taken care of.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Yeah, ask someone where is their faith that you know?
If you want to know someone who's rich or not,
you know, ask them where their faith is that determines
how wealthy you are in God.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yes, that's good because this has not God chosen those
who are poor in the eyes of the world to
be rich in faith. Rich and to inherit the kingdom
he promised to does who love them? So God actually loves.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
The poor, He really does.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
He loves the poor.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Yes, and he says, if you don't take care of
the poor, you show content for your maker. It's like
you're actually moving away from God and you're showing up
and you're being disrespectful to God when you don't show
love and respect to the poor. Yes. Wow, well awesome,
And then we go down real quick and we'll close
(07:50):
out the video here. If you are really keeping the
royal law, love your neighbors, you love yourself right and
loving God with all your heart, your mind, or so
your sh love your neighbors, you love yourself. It says
this found in the scripture. Love your neighbors, you love yourself.
You are doing right when you do that. You're not
doing wrong. You're doing right when you love God with
all your heart, mind, soul and straight. But you love
(08:12):
your neighbor as you love yourself. That's a love man. Yes,
if we can get more believers to love like that one,
not only outside of the body, in the body of Christ,
we're all one, no matter how poor this believer is
or how wealthy, this believer is we share in God's
inheritance of his family, and we come together. We share
(08:33):
all things common as one as they've seen a book
of acts, Like we share all things common, all things
is God, and we're just stewarding and managing those things,
including your finances.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Right, but if you show favoritism, you sin and are
convicted by the law. And yet stumbles at this one
point is go to a breaking.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
All of it.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
So he even talks about you know, just uh, if
you break one law, you broke all of them, Like
what what is sin? Sin is transgression of the law.
Sin is just breaking God's rules. And it's just in
the scripture. If you break one rule, you broke all
of them. That's so that the people. That's so that
people don't think that they're more righteous than others. Like
(09:18):
the law as it being like God's protection and guide
and how to live. It's it's too it's also like
a reflection of the heart. Like Jesus took it to
another level when it when it became more about you know,
don't come in adult trial, don't more murder. Jesus came
and said, you know, if you look at a woman
lovesfully then you commit adultery, like if you hate a
(09:40):
brother or you hate somebody, then you've committed murder. So
it shows really how everything starts in the heart and
then outward. Uh an outward manifestation.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
So yeah, faith without words is there too, Like, so
one call thing that I love.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
We haven't gone there yet.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Okay, that's our next.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yes, that's the next video.
