Speaker 1 (00:00):
From Florida is more fast faced than Oklahoma? Correct sy
or how much?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Was an uber from the location we were to, like
the closest mall and it was like.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
I'm shredding weight, like a shredded piece of cheese coming
out the.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Only downfall while we're not living.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
There, I feel like able to guys, Welcome to another
episode of Faith and Familiar. Today we have a little
bonus sort of special video and this is literally going
to be around life in Latin America versus life in
(00:38):
the United States. We're going to really focus in on
Puerto Rico in Columbia, but we'll also talk a little
bit about Kansas and Florida, like some differences.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
My wife is from.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Where but perto Rico, Puerto Rico, But you live in.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Florida and Oklahoma, Texas and Texas.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
All over the place.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah, So we have different perspective of different lifestyles that
we've been afforded to be able to live in with
kids and without kids, and just we want to share
with you some valuable content from an expat perspective living
out here, menaging Columbia and sort of some of the
things that we're learning real quick. But go ahead, and
(01:19):
just share you being a young lady from Latin America,
what are some things that really resonate with you outside
of the United States, And what are some comfortable, good
things that you like in the United States that you're like,
I love these things about the United States. I love
these things about Latin America.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
So what I like right now.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
About Latin America just in general as a little girl
are right now?
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Well, I definitely love the weather, I love the food.
I love the people, how family friendly they are, how
it's warm, you know, as far as like relationships, the language. Obviously,
it's so much easier for me to speak my first
language than English being my second language. And let me
(02:08):
see how hospitable people are and how serving they are,
that people acknowledge you. And I love how there's so
many things here. They have everything. I mean, it's like
I keep saying this, but it's like you think about
something and they sell it, like it's just there's no
such thing if they don't have it or they don't
make it. They make everything here. And I love their
(02:29):
domy Celios, Like, I love how they deliver everything here.
They don't have at they do have Amazon, but this
DOMI Celio gets here way faster than than Amazon. Like
they have a thing called RAPPI like Rappy and.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
It gets.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
It really does ten minutes, and so I really love
the convenience of that something gets here fast.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
I don't know, I don't know why in American places.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
No, I don't think. I don't know. Perto Rica doesn't
have that, unfortunately, I wish. I don't know. The system
is different over there, and maybe it has to do
with was all they've been through and just how things
are the government is over there. But I still love
Puerto Rico. I love the food, I love the people.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Thats flyers like we do. Warm their their family friendly
as well, and yeah they're hospitable.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Yeah, and let's real quick, I know neither one is
inherently better. Like every place has its benefits. Managine is
like Heaven on Earth and Almondo.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
On Earth.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Lotiana is in the land. But what is difficult Oklahoma
offers this What is Oklahoma offer from when we live
the community? Community is one of the special things. Even
though you know Latin America brings these very kind people
around you, it's really tough. There's these little divide like
(04:06):
language barriers. There's different things, like, man, we're from a
whole different place where foreigners, so it's.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Just like, ah, we don't know the current sort of
culture around.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Do we just dive into a relationship with these folks
or these folks. But in Oklahoma it was like really
seamless on getting a community. That's something special about a
little place called Oklahoma in the middle.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
You don't know where that is. It's okay, yeah, we
gotta do that because I didn't know that that was
even a state when he told me he was from Oklahoma. Oh,
white in the world is that? And when I saw,
I was like, Okay. When I got there, I was
more surprised, but exactly, but yeah, So it was easier
for us to make more friendships they're in Oklahoma and
(04:54):
getting in connection with community and just different things to
serve and all that. Right, it was just here and
we had a car there. That's the thing too. We
don't have a car.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Here America, but here it's uber uber older.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
And not all Ubers are are big. They're not being
in size for a family of pie. If it doesn't,
it's very rare. So that's one of the things that
we don't have here is a vehicle.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
So we talked about Puerto Rico and Colombia. Real court,
let's dive over to Oklahoma and Florida. What are some
distinct difference between Florida, which is a melting pot of cultures.
I mean, you probably got more Latin Americas living there
that you do regular americanas.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Oh yeah, but you.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Have to look up the set on that there's this
unique Latin Americas and Americans influences. But also well, Oklahoma
retains a more traditional lifestyle, you know, rooted in Midwest values.
You look at the pace, the pace is totally different.
Florida is more fast paced than Oklahoma, correct.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Sy or No, I'm not sure. Probably I don't know,
I would say.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Or maybe some parts of Florida are slower From.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
This that point, if we got a place like Dallas, Texas,
everybody is moving.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Everybody's running everything, network, It's like fast life like even
New York, Miami, Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
You know. But if you look at somewhere like Oklahoma,
you have a ton of people working from home, but
it's not a big downtown city life, not like other cities.
What about Tampa is it more lively vibrant or more
people were chill. The beach life makes it a little chill,
(06:36):
but people are still moving around doing stuff, getting things done.
Oklahoma is a little different. You have people get things done,
but it's not that drastic. People want to live cool, calm,
collective wives, sort of like Latin America. But let's talk
cost of living here. We do ubers and it's like,
cost of living is so great, man, and the quality
(06:57):
of life is so great.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
You have rented a car in Puerto Rico, Obviously when
you go through the company is going to be way
more expensive. But I looked up an uber because I
was I was curious to know how much was an
uber from the location we were to, like the closest mall,
and it was like, what was it like twenty bucks
bus ooh and it wasn't. It was like five minutes.
There's a lot. There's a lot of money to just give.
(07:20):
I was just walked where Sean said, hey, will walk totally.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
But when I started looking at the infrastructure of like
of Puerto Rico, because this is our world now, Latin
America is our world, it seems like. And our kids,
some of them only lived in Latin America for more
than a you know, for their whole most of their
life now.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
But check this out.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
In the United States, it's one thing when you go
to Puerto Rico, it's very expensive for the things that
you actually want to do. The beach is free. The
best things are free in Puerto Rico. Yes, and we
love that. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
The only downfall while we're not living.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
There, I feel like, outside of the Lord calling us
specifically here is the infrastructure is tough.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
When it comes to like the health.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
We experienced a little bit of health things for my
wife's family. You have some health encounters that we got
a sense of what the hospital is like and some
of the stuff.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
But also food is amazing. But the thing is my.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Track record when it comes to food, like that record,
I get like I was so weighty, but when I
came to Columbia, Dude, I'm shredding weight, like a shredded
piece of cheese coming out.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
I'm just running a lot.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Of weight by the grace of God, which is amazing.
Just a lifestyle change here, but the benefit Again, I
don't think either one is better.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
They both have their nie so many unique things offer yes, yes, yes, yeah,
Like Puerto Rico has the beautiful beaches. The food is delicius.
You just have to know what to eat, that's all.
And then the people there's a lot to do for free.
You can move around with a car. It's easier to
get a car and move around. And then Latin America
(09:10):
is great too. But so I find myself that I
have to be more cautious, Like you know, you can
just walk around with something expensive or giving babaya or
like having expensive things, having your camera will go for
the Like that's that's the thing. Like you you feel, yeah,
and like you can't feel one hundred percent safe because
(09:30):
there's always someone that it's a need and you make
it hungry.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Yeah, so that's this one thing, you know, like in
this culture, like they have their histories and they have
their their circumstances, and I don't know, we have to
respect that. But then it's like you have to know
you have to learn these culture and adapt to it exactly.
But yeah, like in Puerto Rico, you don't have to
how you can be free to walk around with a
camera do that because.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
And then you know the sort of financial you know, way
of life, the lifestyle there is where you want to
flyunt like most Puerto Ricans, they dress clean, the sharp,
you know, they have the chains on the sunglass like
that's the type of people they are, you know. But
(10:20):
when you come to Metagine again, you're not going to
see people out there just wearing anything, pajamas out the stories.
They look nice, but they're not gonna wear like Rolexies,
rollies and big chains and stuff like you do in
Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is more American eyes, I always say,
but the problem is more drugs, drug dealing.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Violence.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
We actually was on the freeway coming back from an
amazing time together and there was a shooting on the
freeway and I actually seen a guy with a massive
gun the same car and come to find out later
that guy just did a shooting on the freeway. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
And then days after we got to where we were
staying in our airbnb, beautiful place, beautiful people, beautiful neighborhood
and Isabella, you know, at the gas station several hours
after we got in that night, about nine o'clock at night,
there was a shooting at a gas station. So you
just really have to pick your poison. I mean, you
(11:24):
gotta pick what part of Ireland you're gonna stay on it.
Just be wise, don't think I'm doing crazy exactly, and
stay a tentative. You have to stay alert in Puerto Rico,
just like you have to stay alert here.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
But it's a little bit different. People don't rib like people.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
It's more like papaya giving papaya here.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
But you don't think it's not a lot of drug
violence on.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
This side, yeah, and things like that over there. I
think the problem in Puerto Rico it's more like if
you are at the wrong place the wrong time and
somebody's looking for someone and you happen to be there,
that's the problem.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
That's like three of you.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
That's that's just like, that's the problem. That's it that
it's like innocent lives being taken, not because you're outing,
but it's because you happen to be there at that time.
Or no, you're just like there and just it's happening anyway.
We don't want to speak on like, you know, the
negative negative, because it's just life. There's brokenness everywhere, there's pain,
(12:25):
there's evil, and there's good, so you know. But Puerto
Rica is a beautiful island. I love my people, love
my culture. I'm always going to be from there, and
Latin America is beautiful too, is beautiful, and this is
where we are right now. We get to embrace this
culture and accept it for what it is and and
then just see how we can make a positive impact
(12:45):
in this community by volunteering, serving and ways that you know,
God leads us to.
Speaker 1 (12:52):
Now next, well, and here's what we're going to close
off and just.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Share with you guys. It literally is about your lifestyle preference.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
If you're thinking about taking your family movie to one
of these places, Latin America or going to the States
or wherever you choose to go. No place is better
I think than any. God created every place, He created
all people, And it's all about preference and where's God
calling you? Who is he calling you to? More importantly,
(13:22):
it's not about what and where typically it's about who.
Who is He calling.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
You to go?
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Serve and serve your heart away. I like what Mother
Teresa said. She was sharing something about the moment you
get involved in something that's a work from God, like
you'll find yourself find it really hard moving away from
that thing. So hey, just know, once you move into something,
(13:49):
if you move into something where God wants you to
shoe he'spot. It's gonna be really hard to leave there,
so be careful. Awesome, all right, anything else school that
you'd like to share or encourage folks out there listening,
that's all right, y'all. Well we love y'all. Make the
Familion re signing off. You're a part of our community
(14:11):
on YouTube. Make sure you go ahead and yeah, subscribe, rate.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Review is it actually?
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Review? It's comment? Subscribe, subscribe podcast is review?
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Yeah, subscribe and comment.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Awesome, y'all. Yeah, let's go pe
