Speaker 1 (00:21):
Queenean Societyations. Everyone, it's Rich twelve a while kind of
Fantasy Baseball Live. Today is August seventeenth, about three o'clock
in the afternoon, and I'm here with my recovering partner,
mister Tim mcclowd. Tim, you were a wall on Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yes, I skipped skipped. What can I say, Tim.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Tim out of Tommy ache and Timmy o Tommy ache
and let me know. So that's why we didn't have
a recording everyone. So we're here back on Sunday. Tim,
you're feeling better.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
H flush with success.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yeah, that's right, My, I don't know you. You and
Beans must have gotten the same thing. He had a
tummy for two days as well. So, uh that wasn't
as that wasn't as good.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I was gonna know.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
I'm no, no, I'm definitely host trained.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Yeah, it was not four o'clock in the morning. Taking
him outside was no fun. Let me just let me
go on record as that. So uh.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Oh, yes, it's moments like that. They hear things like
that that. I don't miss having a dog. They do,
but no, no, dogs.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Are absolutely we'll we'll we'll take we'll take that of
you know, having a dog. So Timmy wanted to do
the do a podcast tomorrow morning, and I said no, Timmy.
The reason I said no is we have our had
our annual jazz and blues festival yesterday, and I wonder.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
I saw posted, Yeah, LORI posted that. I saw that.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, it was fantastic and I could have done it,
but then I don't know. I just said want to
because I So we spent the whole day sitting on
our we have green, which is a city block and
it's really nice and literally you can see it from
our building. And we just sat there and went back
and forth their bathroom breaks and food and it was great.
(02:12):
It was wonderful. Two jazz performers and three blues performers.
It finished up with somebody named Samantha Fish.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah she was okay.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
She was okay. Joan Shaw Taylor was last year, she
was great, but Samantha Fish was just okay. I couldn't
get a Some of the songs sounded like fog hat,
some of the songs sounded like punk rock, some of
the songs sounded country. I couldn't get a sense for
the music at all. It was very it was very
difficult to like find a groove in her music.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, she's very accomplished and very well recognized as a guitarist.
But I guess it sounds like she was all over
the place, right, Yes, yeah, that's something. It's one thing,
I guess to show off your shops. But at the
same point in time, I'm uh to be listening, you know,
(03:11):
as a member of the audience. Uh, you start drifting
too far in too many different directions and becomes almost disjointed.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Yeah, yeah, it wasn't. And we've been up all night
anyway with the dog the night before. So okay, about
two thirds of the way through the set, I leaned
over and I said, Laurie had enough. She's like, yep,
let's go. So so a few minutes early and uh
so got out of there. But to Tim, How's how's
(03:39):
the baseball world? How's how are your teams doing?
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Some good, some bad, some all over the place? I
got I got up into second in labor and three
days later I was back in ninth. Uh. Yeah, it's
a it's a tight it's it's uh the guy who's
leading it, Ryan, He's he's got a healthy lead. I
(04:04):
don't think anybody's catching him. But there's about ten teams
all within ten points, and it just sort of goes up,
down and in between, depending on how your team is
doing that week. It's that close, you can you can
be anywhere from from seventh, seventh to tenth in the
matter of one or two days.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
So that's fun. That makes it fun.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Yeah, it's fun. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. There's there's a
whole bunch of us playing for second. How was that South?
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Oh? I think that's that's fun. I mean, you always
like to be first, but as long as it's competitive
and you're having fun at the end of the season,
that's that's what's matter. But Tommy, I have been waiting
all week to talk to you about Josh Hater because
Tim and I had joked and tease each other about
Josh Hater. Tim draft him in the second round in
a couple of leagues, maybe three leagues, like they don't
(04:55):
recall and sent me a oue and include his DL
five member is dfive co manager Bob king High And
basically you lost Josh Hadern and unfortunately, tom you lost
it for the rest of the season. I felt bad
for you, so I told Tim, I said, look, you
wouldn't have these problems. If you would have drafted Liam Hendricks, Oh,
(05:22):
Alexis Diaz and Jason Foley, Timmy, you wouldn't have had
that problem. You would have had three guys that got
collective zero saves like I did.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yes, you know I had an ID in rehab for
my drinking problem.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
I mean it's a bummer. I mean you lose arguably
the best closer in the game and for the last
six weeks of the season. That's tough.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yeah, it's and there's not much you can do. I
think the thing that I'm just looking at. Yeah. I
posted this on the UH on the discord h McLeod's hangout.
My thoughts on Hayter uh hater is a victim of
(06:09):
Joe Aspata being a total moron. Leaving him in for
thirty six pitches in his last outing four and a
half months into the year personifies stupid. And then I
went on to explain if a spat his brains or
toilet paper, you wouldn't have enough to wipe but flies.
But duty, But that's either that's just for the Why
is he taking and leaving the best closer in the
(06:31):
game three quarters of the way through us He's in
for thirty six pitches. That's asking for trouble, and he
got exactly what he asked for. That's what that's that's
I think what annoyed me more than anything else, you
know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Like, come on, you.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Would say the naysayers would say the Yankees put Goose
Gossage in for sixty pitches every other day. So what
what do your body respond to that?
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Well?
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Yes, and I like the Ambler I was driving back
that too.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Well. Play, let's clear this up. You did not actually
own a Rambler. That's even free dates, Tim, I hope.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
So my mom did. Adah, Yes, no, ac. Yeah, we
went out West one year and it did memories, memories, memories, memories. Yes,
I swear I'd never owned one, and to this day, no,
I don't own anything from AMC. I used to call
it a MC. I used to call it the almost
(07:39):
Motor Company.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
That's right. I remember when I was a kid, my
dad had a nineteen sixty two Chevrolet. I don't remember
the model because I was too young to care about that.
And no air conditioning because that's the way it was, Tim.
But we didn't have global warming, so it wasn't as
hot as it is now, but he the hand rollers
(08:02):
in the back, which is where we sat, didn't They
didn't work. They literally didn't. They had fallen off, and
my dad didn't have to fix them and didn't want
to pay anybody to repair them. So we sat in
the car without windows rolled down in the summertime. How
about that?
Speaker 2 (08:20):
So that almost sounds like fun.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Sounds like fun. But anyway, so in those leagues where
you had Josh Hater, right, the smart thing would have
been to handcuff him with a bray You did you
do that?
Speaker 3 (08:38):
I think I had Hater in seven or eight leagues,
and I handcuffed him in a total of one and
the orange.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
You can't cuff them in just one league, or all
but one.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Just one.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
I only had a brain in one league, and the
reason for that was there were I believe holds involved. Okay,
My training, My train of thought was he's the best
closer in the game. I'm investing early in him, Okay,
because I believe in him. If I start handcuffing Josh
Hater in every league anticipating a problem, why am I
(09:16):
drafting him in the second third round for starters and
number two? It ties up a roster spot that I
can't use on a seven man bench for something more
that I believe is more valuable, being that I've got
one of the best closers in the game, I don't
I don't need a handcuff. Now, if I'm drafting justin TOPA,
(09:37):
then I might want the handcuff, but not for a
guy of his. If I'm drafting a an elite closer,
should should we be handcuffing?
Speaker 2 (09:48):
I don't think so well.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
I mean, if you spent the second round pick in,
you're assuming that the guy is going to be healthy,
and that's go because they yeah, but they just, you know,
weird stuff happens. I mean, Zach Wieler hasn't been hurt
for five years, and now all of a sudden he
has got some kind of scary sounding problem.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
And yeah, the year five, Yeah, the five five years
before that, he was never healthy.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
You handcuff starters with other starters, though, right, I mean,
so why not handcuff the best closer in the game,
the guy that you spent heavy investment in. Why not
handcuff him with the guy that's going to get the job?
I mean that you can make that argument, particularly, I mean,
you're after the fact here. I mean it's easy to
be there. Yeah, the armchair quarterback on Monday to say.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
That, Yeah, yeah, I if I'm looking at handcuffing. One
of the reasons I'm looking at handcuffing is because I
don't believe I should say, I don't. I believe there's
a good chance that that person will not have that
job for a substantial period of time. It's an insurance policy, right, Well,
if I believe it's not going to be an issue,
(11:04):
then I don't handcuff should I quite possibly? The answer
right now in hindsight is yes. But up until that
thirty six pitch oding, we didn't have any problems with
Josh Hater.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
No, No, we didn't. No, it's fair. But insurance isn't
insurance Use the word insurance. I don't want to pick
on your words, But isn't insurance to to worry to
basically protect yourself against a potential catastrophic event that cannot
be foreseen. Fire, tornadoes, things like that.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Yeah, I don't have tornado insurance either, Rich, Well.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
You probably do. That comes with your homeowners insurance, right
you know, So you get.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Up here, it's ice, I okay, ice.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Or whatever I mean? I mean that's I mean, those
freak things is why you have insurance, and you know
that's that's what what a bray you would have provided you.
But I mean, I'm just trying to be nay safer there.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Right, Yeah, No, I had hey and in hindsight, yeah,
it probably wouldn't have hurt me. But at the same
point in time, it's not going to make it's not
really going to make that much of a difference in
most of my legs because the numbers that I have
in saves based on the four and a half months
(12:27):
that I had here are pretty solid. And I've invested
in some of the in some of the wonderful uh
shuffling shuffling of closers at the trade deadline, I've picked
up some of them and I'm getting some saves there.
And I also just didn't have Hater by himself. There
was another closer in there. Plus I'm always working the
(12:47):
weaver were so I got four Yeah, I got four
and a half months out of them. So the only
thing that annoyed me was like why thirty six you
know what I mean, Like why you know what I mean?
It just seemed sort of senseless to me.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Yeah, but I don't know how to answer that.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
If if I owned that team, I would have fired
the manager just in principle.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Yeah, they got a huge investment in Josh Hader for sure.
So next year you're still taking Josh Hader in the
second round and it sounds like you're not going to
handcuff him.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Uh, probably not. I know, I was going to say probably,
I probably won't take Josh Hater because of the depending
on what happens with the shoulder and how things work
out there. But Munio's I can I can see a
large investment there. You know, he'll he'll he'll be one
(13:45):
of the top two or three. Edwin Diaz despite some
of the problems the mets of vand is that great year? Okay?
So I am going to have Rostered next year one
of the one of the elite closers in the first
two three rounds. And I'm uh, I might, I might
(14:06):
ensure it this time around. I I really don't know.
Odds are probably good I won't because I'll be looking
to try and find another starting pitcher because I'll have
three on the I l by the middle of March.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Right, So I'll give you my opinion on all of this,
and it is I don't I don't know. I don't
know because I don't understand the whole closer world. I
never have. I I can make an argument that you
should always ensure your top closers, definitely in drafted whole leagues,
(14:38):
for sure. But oh yeah, but I can I can
make as big of an argument that I'd rather have
three or four closers in case one of my closers
get hurt. I'm accumulating. So if you're smart enough to
be able to work the waiver wire and get four
closers and you're you got one of them on your bench,
isn't that your insurance policy plus an opportunity to pick
(15:00):
up extra safe So you can also make that argument
as long as as long as one i'ms not Jason
Foley or somebody some stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Kevin.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
I mean, so I think you get you know, your
third closer, and he's a legitimate guy that's going to
get you know, some an opportunity like a will vess
is probably it was a really good I know he's
lost his job, but that was probably a reasonable third
closer knowing that there's a chance will get replaced. But
you got ten to twelve, says with him.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Well, yeah, and I'm a guy like, uh, what's another
good example. Matt Stram has provided some value this year.
Okays as a late early, early pick. You want to
go with the setup guys who is coming on Class
A being out of the game, But Kate Smith would be.
Kate Smith has done very well for people last year, right, Yeah,
(16:00):
devoted well at the beginning of the year setting up
for Ryan Walker.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Yeah, on that same token, I have Class A. I
think in three Dynasty leagues, I have zero backup. I
did not have Kate Smith at all. And in hindsight,
I keep thinking maybe I should have had that, and
you kicking myself and then I'm like, that's even weirder
than getting hurt, you know. Yeah, have you heard what's
(16:26):
going on with that? Do you know why the speculation
is why he got busted?
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Well, yeah, I'm I've i I yeah, he got busted
because of the gambling site.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
No, no, no, but specifically, and and somebody's done the
research on that. Apparently first pitch balls they went through
like tons of first pitch balls. He threw it fifty feet,
you know, and it's like, so the feeling was that
people were betting that when Classe got in the game,
(16:57):
the first pitch was a ball. So that's a pretty
easy one, right, because you're not really affecting the outcome
of the game, but yet you're able to collect on
it pretty easily. That's if that's true. That's pretty weird stuff.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
But not only is it weird stuff, but eventually you're
going to take the word of a gambler over the
word of a picture. How do you prove something like that?
Speaker 1 (17:28):
I don't know you can.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
Yeah, you know, Hey, I'm having a bad year. I
had a couple of bad games, you know, I mean, like,
I get what's happening, But man, what what what happens
when you have a closer that goes into a slum
for two or three games? Yeah, does that all of
(17:51):
a sudden making a target of the betting police?
Speaker 1 (17:57):
It could. My guess is I would think with the
artificial intelligence that exists today, the people are running models
for all of that stuff now to try to figure out.
You know, if people are making heavy bets on Classe
throwing a ball in his first out, in his first pitch,
and you see a high correlation to that, there's probably
(18:19):
red flags that are going off somewhere at least there
should be, right, I mean, that's that's what that stuff
should be able to do. But I don't even know
what to think of all of this. But if that's
where it comes down to, that's going to be totally
fascinating because that would set up for all kinds of
shenanigans going on, where these guys are playing these prop
(18:41):
bets that don't really have an effect, a direct effect
on the game, but somebody could be cleaning up imagine football,
the same thing incomplete paths on the first pass, something
like that. Yeah, it could easily do that.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Well yeah, you know, and it brings brings forward and
other situation. And I almost didn't know whether to laugh
or cry. But looking at the trek Scooble's last start
okay by the way, yeah no, his last start okay,
(19:19):
he had no strikeouts through about four or five innings, okay,
and he ended up with three strikeouts on the day, okay,
pitch seven innings, loud, three earned runs. I'm bad doubting,
But if you go to Twitter, it's like everybody and
typed in Schooble. There were hundreds of people saying, well,
(19:40):
what's wrong with Google three k's I'm not going to
win any money like that, okay, and insinuating that, you know,
what I mean has something to do with bedding, right,
because the strikeout numbers were so low. Is that what
we're heading to in the future.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
I don't know. I mean, it is interesting though, if
you think about it, because I mean, is Scooba's gonna
bet on baseball? The guy that's probably gonna land a
four hundred and five hundred million dollars contract, he should
have his head exam. A class is a different, different animal,
and like relievers and utility players and things like that,
(20:16):
they don't get paid the big bucks and they might
be able to score, you know, a significant amount of
money by cheating. But that's probably where the problem is.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Well, and again, if I'm not mistaken, I don't think
clause A is fighting bankruptcy.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
I think he had a pretty good contract.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
He had a really good contract, but it's still under
it's undervalue because remember he signed early on and got
locked in.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
So right, But again.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Well, when I was going through and reading some of
the comments on Twitter, man that that place is accessible,
it really is you know, you cost me money, Scooble
because of this. Come on, dear lord, what happens when
when a guy who's with a high strikeout rate for
whatever reason, only strikes so three or four?
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Are we going to say, you know, I'm yeah. Are
we gonna say? Okay? I wonder how much money he's
making off this?
Speaker 3 (21:15):
You know?
Speaker 2 (21:15):
And it's I don't like it. I don't like.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
It to me, and then we'll move on to me
the most. The thing that I hate the most about
the gambling within sports and it being so pervasive are
the prop bets. And I know people love those, but
it is right for you know, for mischief and shenanigans.
And let's just go back to football. You can bet
(21:41):
is the first play of your team a pass or
a run?
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Right?
Speaker 1 (21:47):
I could be the quarterback. I get the play in
it's a pass, but and I look and I call
an audible and make it a run. Who's going to
know and what real effect is it going to have
on the game? And I can make the argument I
looked at the defense and I look like a run
was better, And that's my job to make that call.
Who's going to say anything unless you can trace the
(22:09):
money back to that and that kind of stuff. People
are gonna you know, these people are smart. They figured
ways to get around it. And you know that gamblers
are going to be going to all these professional athletes going, hey,
you want to make a quick one hundred hundred grand
call a run for the first play, you know, or
throw a ball in the first pitch.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Oh, you want to make a quick ten million because
I'm going to bet forty you know, hey the yeah, hey,
if the fix is in, you might as well go
all in, right.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
Yeah, I guess so somebody to take a break get back.
Really fun discussion. And uh, let's look at some of
these games. The best team, hottest team in baseball, team
(23:00):
with a who's who of players on their lineup is
the Milwaukee Brewers, not the stereo leading off Durban next. Uh,
Vaughn is in there, Perkins is in there, even Tyler
Black has been got a pH of a pinch hit opportunity.
They are losing one to nothing to the Reds.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
To my six dollars next year, Andrew Abbott, Oh I
like that.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Yeah, Oh it's all about tim. Yeah, so you got
to give it up for the Brewers. I mean they
I mean, they're so far out in front now, I
mean that the Dodgers. I think they're ten games up
on the Dodgers or something crazy like that.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
Yeah, it's it's absolutely insane.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
And yeah, and you know what today because there's the
lefty involved, they're resting a few people today. Hey, and
they've got chariot of the lineup. When when was the
last time we saw a line from Rhee Auskin's.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
A while? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (24:01):
And you know I self, Relick has dealt with a
knee and a hamstring and situation and Sura yeah yo,
who has been absolutely amazing Von Brewers.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Vun Yeah man, oh man. It says something for maybe.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
The mental aspect of the game and leaving the White
Sox to come to a winning environment. Maybe maybe there's
something to be said for that. A lot that should
be said for that.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
So if I may, because I mean, this is my
job to kind of look at minor league systems and
the philosophy around the team. Look, I've been I've been
pounding the pavement, pounding the table that pavement, pounding the
table about the Milwaukee Brewers for the last few years.
I loved what they were doing. I love the trades
they made. They were looking for guys that could hit.
(24:54):
They were getting like potential studs and Jackson Cheerio and
paying them. They were young, and their minor league system
is absolutely stacked, and they got the best record in baseball.
I mean, you don't see that very often unless you're
the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
Well on, the Los Angeles Dodgers have half of their
pitching staff on the ail, right.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Yeah, but you see my point. I mean, this is
this is unheard of, and they've got I mean, they've
got a stream now that they've got these really good players.
Yellow just getting older, William Cancheriz, let's say he doesn't science. Okay,
they got Jefferson Quario ready to roll. He's just about ready.
And then you know they got Hosing Hayes's mata who
(25:38):
could be Jackson Churio two dot. Oh he might even
better than Jackson Curio, you know, sitting in high A
and moving up quickly. I mean, it is an amazing
system that they developed. So kudos to the Milwaukee Brewers.
I think they're set up, as with the Boston Red Sox,
are set up for the next ten years.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Yeah, you know who else?
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Very quietly this year, issing their farm system in a
huge way and showing that they had a little bit
more there than we thought.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
It's the Blue Jays, yep.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
Yeah, Barge Barger and Nathan Luke's and Schneider's contributing now,
and yeah, it's Toronto's done a good job. They really have,
and they're not making a lot of mistakes. And now
they're what six and a half ahead of the Yankees,
five ahead of Boston. Boston's moved into second in the
(26:30):
Al East. The Yankees might be golfing in October.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Yeah, at least they finally figured out their ninth inning
and Bednard looks like the guy, so, which is what
it should have been from day one. I I don't
know why they keep re signing Aaron Boone and giving
them the big money. I mean, I guess they keep winning,
that's why they do it. But that was a dumb decision.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Yeah, it's yeah. I started to shake my head on
that one. They're winning, The Yankees should win. How much
do they spend? What's what's the payroll?
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Yep?
Speaker 3 (27:05):
Okay, yeah, it's not hard to win when you're spending
a gazillion dollars every year, you know, bringing players in. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
you should be winning. You should be just winning though,
you should.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
Yeah. Devin Williams has been struggling all season long, off
and on, and then you get a I got like
Bedder was I don't know, given up a run in
three months and it's like, okay, you're the setup guy,
what like what?
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Well? Yeah, and Williams went on a string of I
think seven or eight games of the Tenny Louder and
runs and they're still putting him in crucial situations. There
are some teams out there. Dave Roberts in LA, he's
brutal with the bullpens. Were there's some managers that that
should be banned from having anything to do with bullpens. Okay,
(27:54):
and those two guys are are too the.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
Ist, Like a big part of their job is managed
the bullpen. I mean that's that's really the decisions that
are made. The front office is making decisions of who's
playing where and when. Right, I mean they're telling you
here's the optimal lineup, and they send it to them
every day.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Well yeah, and the front office does not make mistakes. Yeah,
they got the the field level right.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
Yeah, So exactly because the front office, and everybody knows
that this is absolutely true. What's going on. The analytics
department makes the lineup. They flat out make the lineup.
I think that the manager can go, look, this guy
is banged up and or I need to give him
a rest or something like that, and they'll make alterations.
(28:40):
But they're giving every day, they give the optimal lineup.
I be looking at the picture and who who has
better success against them? Blah blah blah blah blah. And
that's what goes on, and it's the all the manager
has to do in game is to take out the
starter at the right time and bring in the right relievers.
That's that's his primary job.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Yeah, pretty much pretty much replace somebody if they get hurt.
Yeah yeah, yeah, late late in defensive replacements and they
know who the defensive replace that's right are Yeah yeah,
if that's in.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
But that's included in there as well. That's included if
you know, if they bring in a left handed this
is the substitution you're supposed to make. I mean, and
even a lot of the managers of public come out
and said they don't like that approach, but that's just
what's happened. So speaking of the Red Sex up three
to two. I got to tell you, man, Garret Crochet
another strong outing. William Brayer's twenty second home run. Who
(29:38):
had that on their Bingo card?
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Not me, but I like it. I like it a lot. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
They they brought Roman Roman Anthony up at the right time,
didn't they.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
Yeah. Unfortunately Marcela Mayer is out for the rest of
the season, which is a bit of a bummer.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Hmm, yeah it is. But yeah, Boston is. They're they're
playing good baseball. They're not they're not scoring a ton
of runs, but at the same point in time, they're
just going to out their business and getting things done,
and they're getting contributions everywhere. Trevor's story, Anthony, Duran Bregman,
(30:21):
it's you know, the who had who had Sadana Rafaela
with that first half and they're not too many I'd
had him on their Bengo card. And the pitching BeO
is looking a lot better this year. It's uh, it's fun.
I'm glad that they're working these kids in and it's
working out for them and for the team.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Yeah, it's uh, it's it's been really good. It looks
like the Rangers are up eight to two when you're
Toronto Blue Jays, EVOLDI, after a tough last start, looks
good and uh, unfortunately Carter is another oh for four.
I don't know, Tim, he's already a platoon guy and
you're really worry that. How good of a blatoon guy
(31:03):
he's going to be? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Yeah, it's.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
Yeah, it's he's somebody that won't be on any of
my teams next year. Hey, I love Vegan do when
he's on the field, but I just can't take that
minus thirty percent, okay on opportunity. I just I can't
do it.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Yeah, totally agree. Let's talk about Wyatt Langford hitting two
forty though he hit his seventeenth term run today, it
was a solid second round. No, he wasn't second because
he's probably a fourth or fifth round. I know he
was one of my targets. I didn't get him in
my NFC league, but I was disappointed when I didn't
get him. Where does he go in drafts this coming
(31:49):
season in twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Six, Ah, I don't think he'll slide down any further
than third round. Probably.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Yeah, I agree, time due to.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Injury, But how you fall. You know how you falled
for being hurt.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
It's if the power is there, the speed's there, the
overall skill set.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Lanka is a good baseball player.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
I know. If he's sitting there in the third round
next year, I'd be very, very happy to have him
on my team.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
I agree. Let's just take a quick pee of his
baseball savon breakdown Baseball Servant, page eighty ninth percentile and
speed so I can steal as many bases as he wants.
So that's sixteen that he's got now. Yeah, twenty to
twenty five is probably reasonable, maybe even closer to twenty five,
given it he missed so much time. He walks a ton.
He strikes out too much, but he walks the tons
(32:40):
in one base percentage League's money, and his hard hit
rates are at seventy percentile and a ninety one point
one exit velocity with a large launch angle. I think
you're looking at a twenty five to twenty five guy, Tim,
I think so as well, with a little bit of
pressure on his batting average.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
Yeah, no, he's a good young and how old is
he twenty four?
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Good question? He is twenty three?
Speaker 3 (33:08):
Twenty three Yeah, bright future ahead for mister Langford. As
far as I'm.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
Concerned, I agreed, So I buried the lead here. Samasiah
got the call. Let's see how his first at bat
he got hit with a pitch. I was watching it
with my wife, and I love when players get called
up because I love them. The broadcast, I try to
watch as many as I can because I love the
(33:35):
family aspect of it. The parents are always there, and
I have to tell I mean, look, I mean we've
all a lot of us have raised children. I will say,
we've all raised children, and you know what how much
effort you put into driving them everywhere and spending the
money for lessons and whatever it is that they do.
(33:56):
And the pride that those parents must feel to see
their kid in the major leagues. I mean you can
see it on their faces. I mean it is it's
amazing that you know, they've seen the kid sacrifice. They've
all sacrificed to have it. And Samasia's entire family was
there and it was just it was wonderful. So let's
see how he Let's see how he's done. Uh it
(34:19):
is oh for one, oh for one with.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Yeah, Beaver's got to run run scored.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Yeah, it's got his Yes, it looks like it was
a second hit, so he's up. It was weird that
they called up Beavers before they did Besiah one of
what was what was up with that?
Speaker 3 (34:39):
Yeah, I have absolutely no idea there. And Colton Kous
was back in the lineup today. The the Orioles, Uh,
they're gonna They're gonna be fun to watch over the
next five weeks. And I I I don't think one
should underestimate their ability to win baseball games. Uh, they're
(35:01):
gonna give some teams fits. I think as you get
into the middle of September, contending teams, you know, they've
got a they've got a better lineup than the record
would suggest, and a very good group of young players
Holiday Anderson, Adley cows Or plus the kids they just brough.
They're gonna have some fun. I think in Uh, they're
(35:22):
gonna they're gonna have some fun in September.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
I think totally agreeing. I mean, they're giving the Astros
fits today. It's just a pitching I mean terrible though,
I you know, I mean Rogers looks fantastic. I mean,
that looks like that could be the top of the
rotation next season, and if they get cop Ratus back,
which should be in the next few weeks, and he's
comes back, you know, hopefully fully healthy, and then Grayson
(35:47):
Rodriguez I know, shrugged your shoulders. Who knows? I mean, ye,
they could turn it around really really quickly next season.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
Yeah, they could.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
If you if you said to me right now, they're
gonna win the AL the Al East next year.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Okay, I'm not going to argue with you. They could.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
Where does Sambasiah play. He's dhing today, He's a He's
an average defender behind the plate. They want to have
Kobe Mayo at first base. Let's say it doesn't really
matter what Sambasiah does the rest of the season. I
think you would agree he's probably gonna he's going to
be up to start the season next year. Where does
(36:26):
he play? Uh?
Speaker 3 (36:31):
I think he's going to play between three physicians. I
think he's gonna against uh tough same side arms. I
could I could see him. I could see them seeing
Mayo for Beasaiah at first base. I could see him
catching on the days that Retchmond isn't. Then in between Hedh.
(36:53):
So I think you'll play a combination of all three,
but you'll play full time amongst all those three.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
I like you're thanking there. My alternative thinking would be,
if Kobe Mayo doesn't hit the next six weeks, I
think they're gonna move on, and I think Sambasai is
going to be your principal first baseman next year.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Yeah, and backup catcher right. Well wait, I agree.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for next year and for
the next several years as I'm hoping that we see
twenty twenty plus games out of besides ed catcher because
I want that full time.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
I want that.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
I want those full time at bats counting at a catcher position. Yea.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
That's but going to the next season, it's gonna be
tough for him to have catcher eligibility, right, because he's
gonna lose it in most leagues. He's not gonna get
twenty at bats or twenty games at catcher this season.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Well, you might not get twenty anywhere, but if he
gets the most games at catcher, yeah, it's going to
be interesting to see how that works. So you could
have him just DH eligible and that would sort of bite. Yeah,
after weak till in season he gets his five or
ten games in and then go from there.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
Right, Yeah, that's that's gonna be interesting. I would still
probably be interested in him even if he's just ut
eligible next season, just because I think he's going to
play a position. I don't think they're going to put
him at DH. But he's a big dude. He's gonna
hit tons of home runs. He's aggressive at the plate.
I mean, he doesn't walk a ton, but he makes
(38:31):
good contact. He's a he's going to be a thirty
home run guy. And it's it's it's big, big power.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
Well, and I think it's safe to say that he
will get in season eligibility at multiple positions, probably catch
here in first base.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
So you might just have to wait a while, you know,
three four weeks.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
I would be disappointing if he doesn't get any time
behind the plate the rest of the next six six weeks,
I'd be dis point in that. But I'm hoping he
gets ten games or something like that that would show that, yeah,
they're going to play him behind the plate.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
Yep, agreed.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
It'll be interesting to see if they move on from
Attleie Rutchman, because he's going to start to cost some money.
It's a great defensive catcher, but I mean offensively, he's
just not been the guy.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
Yeah, yeah, I again, if you're looking for a big contract,
you've bet we better see some big numbers in the
next couple of years. And we haven't as of yet.
The potential is there, but we still have we haven't
seen it, have we?
Speaker 1 (39:39):
Nope? Uh, the Yankees are up three to two on
the Cardinals. Let's see what the Cardinals has got. Nicholas
going and ohs the Gays he's playing. It's two for two.
Look at that, Thomas A.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
Gayzey.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
Yes, Saint Louis still has too many players. I'm not
sure fringe is the right word to use, but too
many players that are easily does that, you know what
I mean? Like like what do you do a second base?
And you got Gorman and you know, and then then
(40:15):
you get and you got you got a cast of
a cast of a lot of people, but they got
at some point in time. Yeah, you know, you can't
run with sixteen platoons. Okay, it just yeah, it just
thinks doesn't work.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
They need better players, that's for sure. But JJ weatherhold
is up. I'm assuming this week, I would think and
I think he is. Look, he's playing short stop, but
I wins a better short stop, defensive short stop than
than JJ weatherhold Is. I would assume he'd move to
third base and it would be thanks for the memories, Gorman,
(40:55):
but uh, I think JJ weatherhold Is he should be
like the cornerstone of that franchise and if he wants,
if like Donnter Henderson, if he wants to play shortstop,
he's probably gonna play shortstop, would be my guest. So
I think they need him. Jordan Walker has just not
been very good. Let's just face it to mean he's okay.
He's not what everybody thought he was going to be.
(41:17):
And I think that's that's a bit of a bummer.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
Yeah it is.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
And speaking of bummers, Miami's bounce back with three runs
in the top of the ninth now hold a five
to three lead over the Red Sox.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
Jacob Marci Pinch hit to run Homer.
Speaker 1 (41:38):
It was my guy this season. I have him on
my NFBC league and he was one of my targets.
I love the setup this year, don't love the setup
going forward, but I thought the speed was massive. I
think he's showing more pop than than he ever has
I don't know if that's going to last, but he's
been great.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
Well. And Cincinnati, of course, Emelia Pagan has to give
it to Tim because he's got abit all over the place,
but allows it to run home. In the top of
the ninth too, William Contreras and the Brewers are up
to to one on the Reds.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
There you go, the magic with theball, you know, you know,
the you know, the Major League Baseball is gonna be
thrilled when the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Dodgers and make
it go to the World Series. The smallest market in baseball.
That's gonna be fantastic, probably against the Blue Jays. What
a disaster.
Speaker 2 (42:33):
Perfect.
Speaker 3 (42:34):
Yeah, yeah, we got the smallest market and the only
out of country market. Advertisers, advertisers will be kind up
considering we're boycotting all American products.
Speaker 2 (42:48):
Up your cat. That would work out.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
Lovely call it. I mean I love it when stuff
like that happen. I would love it because hysterical. I mean,
I'd love it when controversy happens, because I just love
to see Manford like spin out of control. It's so great.
Speaker 3 (43:06):
Well, yeah, and yeah, he'd lose it. Yeah, he's a
big time. If that's something like that were to happen.
Speaker 1 (43:13):
Yeah, definitely to me, it's take another break. I got
a few more questions and I'm going to get to
your waiver wire. No hitter. By the way, Wayne Cantrera's
disappointing season mostly because of injuries. I think he had
(43:33):
a fractured hand for the longest time and tried to
play through it. It looks like maybe it's finally healed
because he's been very good over the last few weeks.
Speaker 2 (43:43):
Yeah, he has.
Speaker 3 (43:44):
I picked him up in a in a trade and
I'm real happy with the results. I might even end
up keeping him next year. It's hard to say he's
gonna be a twenty dollars player for me, but based
on what I've seen recently, it might be twenty dollars
well spent.
Speaker 1 (44:01):
Speaking of trades, I just got offered a trade for
my ronald'cunya.
Speaker 2 (44:06):
So which is a big in.
Speaker 1 (44:07):
A dynasty league. So I have thought about it for
twenty four hours. Made a slight tweak to the trade,
but I think if the guy really wants ronald'cunya, it's
it's just a preference as opposed to I'm asking for
you know, uh, Cory seeger as opposed to Jose Caballero
(44:28):
or something like that. It wasn't that. It's just a
tweak of a different picture. But yeah, I'll tell you
all about it if he accepts it.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
But it's yeah, that'd be it'd be fun to talk
about because it's.
Speaker 1 (44:42):
That it's a big name he's got. He's going to
get the best player in the deal, but I get
a bunch of pretty good players. So uh and uh
so I think it it'll be a lot of fun.
And so we'll see how that goes. Tommy, I got
let's talk about some of these kids that have come up,
and we'll kind of tap into your waiver wires. We're
doing it, but tell me your thoughts on the Nolan McClain.
(45:06):
I know he's he's on your your waiver wire. But
Nolan McClain, he pitched really really well.
Speaker 2 (45:12):
Yeah he did.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
Man, he pitched really really well at Triple A before
the call up. I he's somebody that I wasn't following
as close as I think I probably should should have
been him.
Speaker 2 (45:27):
Go get him, Go get him?
Speaker 1 (45:29):
How can you not have known what was going on?
I write daily notes for Patreon Memoris. I remember Nolan
McClain eight to ten times, and I kept saying he's
going to be the guy that gets the call Tim,
because Tim, Tim, Timm.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
Myself and the great Bob King High End Deal five,
we got the investiment in Tongue.
Speaker 2 (45:49):
Okay, so to help with McLean.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
That's like, all right, that's not analytical thinking, but I
love that's a fan thinking. Okay, yeah, look, I mean,
I look, I've seen tong twice last week. That guy
is that guy's change up man. That is nasty, nasty stuff,
and he's was great last night at his first triple
(46:15):
A outing. But Nolan McLain is is really good, and
I think spro is really good. Sproat is probably next
in line. He might get the call here at the
end of the season. I think tong its just talking.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
I think the only reason.
Speaker 3 (46:29):
Yeah, I think when it was broke, he had one
bad outing, I think, and it was at the wrong time,
and I think that was probably the game changer for
the Mets. You know, if they were looking at a
coin jus between McLain and Brot, I think it was
that bad outing that might have made that, you know
the difference, right, I.
Speaker 1 (46:48):
Talked, well, couldn't he. But I talked to Mets people
and they said, the guy the order that you're going
to see these guys unless somebody gets hurt is McClain,
Sproute and then Tong. And my belief is we don't
see Tong until next year. Look, he needs to develop, Uh,
he needs to develop a curveball. I mean it's I
(47:11):
looked at his outing last night and I didn't chart
the number of pitches at the two outings last week,
but I thought it was I wrote to our Patreon members,
I thought it was about eighty percent fastball change ups.
Last night his pitch count, ninety two percent of his
pitches were his fastball and change up. He threw four curveballs.
(47:32):
That's it. And I mean that changed ups really really good.
But major league baseball players are really good too, So
he needs something to change the high level.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
Yeah, you know what's going to happen is one of
these days he's going to go out there and he's
going to get act and people are gonna say, well,
what's the matter with Tong. Well, the pitching coach is
going to say, the catcher, you're going to call every
third pitch a curve ball, or you're gonna call twenty
five to They're gonna they'll force his hand if he
(48:05):
doesn't throw it. At some point in team time, the
team will force his hand and they will say, this
is what you are going to throw it unless you
want to spend the rest of your life at TRIPA A.
And it'll get to that stage, right.
Speaker 1 (48:18):
I think you're absolutely one percent correct. Totally agree with you,
and that should have been done already. Uh, and it
should be done now. They got to get him to
throw that curveball. They got to get it better. If
nothing else, they need to be able to tell a
hitter that this guy has a third pitch, because remember, everyone,
your fastball and your change up are all in the
(48:39):
same spot right that the curveball is moving in. He's
a right handed pitcher, so it's moving in further to
right handed hitters, but they're both in the same quadrant.
And if I'm a hitter and I have to pretty
much look in one spot for a ball, I mean,
these major league hitters are going to figure they're gonna
figure that out. They're gonna go, wait a minute, I
could just focus on this one area, and it's they're
(49:01):
gonna hit them. They're just going to hit them.
Speaker 3 (49:04):
I don't have to worry about the outside corner, the
inside corner, or.
Speaker 1 (49:08):
The whole bottom of the bottom of the plan, the
bottom of the zone is he's not gonna go throw
anything down. Yeah, it's just and that's going to be
the problem. And uh, I think it's if even if
you can't throw strikes with the curb, he needs to
be able to at least get the hitter thinking, Okay,
there's going to be something that drops down or something
that moves away from me or into me if I'm
(49:30):
a left handed but here I'm just I'm always looking
at So you're gonna see left handed batters diving out
after pitches because they're going to know everything is out
there on the on the outside to get. And I
think it's going to be a problem. But that's just me.
What do I know?
Speaker 3 (49:44):
So, Yeah, I'm spending thousands above or sitting in the
stance coaching players.
Speaker 1 (49:51):
And talking to talking to people that are pitching coaches
like all the time. I mean that, I can't tell
you how many hours I've spent with you know, the
drive line guys and all their competitors, like learning this stuff,
and it's it's it's it's not a good set up
at the moment for Jonah Thong. Now again, that change
up is so good that he's going to have instant
(50:13):
success when he comes up. But after ten to twelve games,
when people start to figure out what's going on, yeah,
he'll he'll get hit the ball. The Mets know this,
and they're good. They're they're really good at developing this stuff.
So give them another ten games.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
A game adjustments.
Speaker 1 (50:28):
Yeah, give them another ten games.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
Game of adjustments.
Speaker 3 (50:31):
Yeah, and he has nothing to adjust too except the
same yep.
Speaker 1 (50:35):
But McLean's good. I mean, he's good stuff. And the
Mets are man. I don't know what's happened to them.
They're just they stopped hitting and their pictures are worn out.
It's they need some help.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
You know what?
Speaker 3 (50:48):
Right now, I believe since the break they have the
second or third worst record and all of baseball.
Speaker 1 (50:56):
Really.
Speaker 3 (50:56):
Wow, Yeah, I saw it posted somewhere and it's one
of the worst records in baseball since you're all Star break.
Speaker 1 (51:05):
Wow, I did not know that. I'm not surprised. Every
time I looked down they've they've lost the game.
Speaker 3 (51:09):
So so yeah, no, and yeah, Ryan Helsley has been
getting beat up on a regular basis. There's another relief
pitcher that hasn't hasn't come through thus far.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
So you're big on on on people moving, and this
the adjustment that just the physical adjustment of moving to
a new city. And we know how much Hellsley loves
Saint Louis and that was fairly well known and written about.
I'm wondering if he's just a little home sectim.
Speaker 3 (51:41):
Well, it could be, because you know, you start looking, Yeah,
you gotta you gotta pick pack up the family. In
some cases you're looking, you know, where are his kids
right now? Okay, they're in school somewhere at you know
what I mean, he's.
Speaker 2 (51:58):
Away from the fall.
Speaker 3 (51:59):
It's cost a road trip for a guy on a
rental because he's not buying a house in New York.
Speaker 2 (52:03):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (52:04):
It's it's it's a seven day, seven seven day a
week road trip. And there's a lot of variables that
come into play when a player is traded, and I
can see why teams have whole departments set up to
facilitate these players, because that doesn't mean it's going to
be any easier, does it now.
Speaker 1 (52:25):
And I would tell you as a corporate When I
was in my corporate job, I got moved multiple times.
And the organization does everything in their power to make
you feel whole, right, I mean you, they'll do everything,
and and and professional athletes, you figure they're going to
go way over the top. But it's still not your bed,
(52:45):
and you you are, you're living out of a corporate apartment.
It's probably very nice, but it's it's still where's my stuff? Also?
Speaker 3 (52:56):
Right? And and your and your your wife's family that
used to live two houses over is now two thousand
miles away. And there's a lot of variables that go
in there, and a lot of pressures that I don't
think people realize. Yeah, I agree, Hey, they affect your
they affect your day to day life.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
I wrote about Cake Avila for years and I started
for a members. I mentioned him several times on his
rehab and I was like, Wow, there could be something here.
If he's available on your wave, where you need to
go get him? Timmy, he's been money since he's been
called up.
Speaker 2 (53:32):
Yeah, yeah I had.
Speaker 3 (53:33):
I actually picked him up in a couple and yeah
looking good, Yeah, looking very good.
Speaker 1 (53:40):
It could be sustainable. So if he's available when you
need to grab him, then I'm going to start on
some negative stuff here. Zach Wheeler mentioned that Early hits
the eye with an upple extremity blood clot. That doesn't
sound good. I mean, Chase, Chase Burns hits the iea well,
the flex are strange. That's an uh oh because we
know people that throw one hundred miles an hour with
(54:02):
flextra strains many times with that, so that's not good.
And then Michael King was in for he pitched one gamel.
So it's those are three like you were counting on,
particularly Zach Wheeler. Three guys you were counting on down
the stretch, and now it's like you don't know when
they're coming back.
Speaker 3 (54:21):
I wouldn't counter on any of those three for the
balance of the year.
Speaker 1 (54:25):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Yeah, you know, Michael King, it's a knee thing. You
know we're gonna be back next year. That's fine. Chase Burns,
who knows what that's going to lead to. And you
never like me and never liked to hear blood clots.
That's not a good thing. I spent two two days
in e merge two weeks back because of that.
Speaker 2 (54:45):
Exact sidat. No, it's not good.
Speaker 1 (54:49):
So they have to give you a blood dinners, don't
they to get rid of the blood clod? Is Is
that correct?
Speaker 3 (54:55):
That is that is correct, assuming that they can I
identify specifically that it is right, okay, because you don't
want to be given some blood thinners serve a very
important function and purpose when it comes to clotting. But
at the same point in time, if there isn't a
(55:15):
clotting issue and they give you a blood thinner, every nick,
every scrape, everything you brush up against creates a bruise
or bleeding that requires uh cutterization to stop. But it's
blood tenders are They're wicked, they really are. You have
(55:35):
to be incredibly careful. I spend a year from blood
with blood thinners after my heart attack, and I would
I would bump into something and the next day I'd
look at it, look at my arm and it look
like like man, oh man, like who beat me up? Okay,
I'd be black and blue from head to toe. It's again,
they serve a purpose. But you know when I see
(55:55):
a professional baseball player with with blood clotting, that no,
that's that is not good. They've got to get that.
They got to get that resolved before they even go
through you know, pay that's a serious problem.
Speaker 1 (56:09):
I agree. That was the one that alarmed me the
most and immediately thought of Zach Wheeler's basically saying he's
only got one more year to pitch, and it's like
he's like, he's got to be thinking, I'm not going
to risk my health here with I'm almost done with
my baseball career. Even though the Phillies are great and
they've got a chance of the playoffs. Everybody wants to
in a World Series. But I mean, he's gonna I
(56:30):
would think he's going to make sure he's damn well
healthy before he goes out starts throwing again.
Speaker 3 (56:36):
Well, yeah, because it increases he you know, strokes. There's
a million things that come into play there, and none
of them are good. Rich none of them are good.
Speaker 1 (56:45):
And then hey we got Aaron Nola back, Timmy bring
him in.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
Right, Yeah, and he got toasted.
Speaker 1 (56:51):
Yeah, I I six.
Speaker 3 (56:53):
Sterned runs today, I think in two and a third
something like that.
Speaker 1 (56:57):
Yeah, he's he wasn't He looks terrible. Free went on
the I L I didn't see anything in the minor
leagues and any of his rehab that anything looked different.
I just he's not the same guy. He's just worn out.
Speaker 3 (57:11):
Well, he was a he was a workhorse for a
long long time and pitched an awful lot of two
hundred seasons, heavy, heavy workload, and at some point in
time it's it catches up up. Maybe that's where we're
at with there with Aaron Nolan.
Speaker 1 (57:28):
To me, it's take another break, get back and while
we're already in an hour, Sorry everyone, Tim and I
have talked on a while. Yeah, alright, let's get to
your waiver wires. What everybody wants to hear anyway, So,
(57:49):
uh not, Joe Alvarez is the first guy on the list.
Austin Riley is dealing with discomfort, and it's it's not
Joe Alvareza get gets the opportunity again.
Speaker 3 (58:02):
Yeah, they abdominal strain is still strained for Austin Riley
and Alvera's had another RBI today that'll give him what
five in the past six games. I mean, he's gonna
see steady playing time until Riley returns, whenever that may be.
And on top of that, I just can't emphasize enough.
You gotta love a guy whose first name is Natron.
Speaker 1 (58:25):
I can't remember how your official name was, because Nacho
is something that he started going by a couple of
years ago, and I used to write about his proper name,
but I've gotten what it is now. But he's okay.
I mean, it's a guy who's chanced to be a
full time right. He's not awesome, Riley, there's a chance
to be a full time regular.
Speaker 3 (58:42):
He's also second base eligible, so second third base eligible.
So yeah, hey, if you need somebody on a short
term basis, he could provide some assistance.
Speaker 1 (58:52):
It's funny because I write up all the capsules, as
Tim knows, and I haven't written up Nacho Alvarez's. I
try not to write up the caps of the guys
that I think are not going to make it to
the end of the season and Stevie rookie eligible, because
why I spend the time to do that and not
try Alvarez has been a guy that I haven't written
up yet, and I'm glad he's finally getting play time.
(59:13):
So I guessed right on that. But a couple like Bubba, Yeah, Bubba, oh,
the guy from Pittsburgh, Bubba Chandler, Bublic Chandler. Thank you.
It looks like I'm have to write him up because
it doesn't seem like the Pittsburgh Pirates wants to want
to bring him up. They must see something there they
don't like.
Speaker 3 (59:34):
It's probably probably has to do with a contract and
money riage.
Speaker 1 (59:38):
I don't know. It's very shallows, probably right, Dylan Beavers.
Send me anything else to say about Dylan Beavers. Who
do you like better the rest of the season? Dylan
Beaver's for Sam Besiah.
Speaker 3 (59:57):
If I had a choice, do you want of two
of them for the balance of this year? I would
go with Beavers. Why stolen bases?
Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
I mean, you realize he is a right he's a
platoon guy, can't there's no power against left handed pitching.
He hasn't hit. He's hit I'm going by memory, forty
four home runs in his minor league career and only
two have come against left handed pitching, and that was
in twenty twenty two.
Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
FYI, Yeah, no, he's going to steal some basses though.
Speaker 1 (01:00:32):
Okay, well that's right, I think yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
I think they'll play the same. I think they'll play
roughly the same amount the challenges that Beavers had as well.
Besides got the same sort of job. Olengers he's eligible.
What two positions that have incumbents that they wan't Mayo
and uh retchmen?
Speaker 2 (01:00:53):
Right, yep, I think you're right.
Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
They're both going to play about hundred twenty five at bats.
They're going to keep both of them under one hundred
and thirty. They're definitely going to keep Sambasai under one
hundred and thirty because they want they think he has
a chance to be Rookie of the Year. I don't
know about Dylan Beavers, but you know, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
Yeah. No, I definitely won twenty five magic number, and
they'll both get close to it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
Oh and Casey has been one of the home run
leaders in Triple A. He's a huge home run guy,
lots of walls, lots of strikeouts, three true come, three
true outcome player. Does he get enough at bats to
make a difference.
Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
I'd be very very careful with uh, with Casey. When
you start start looking, when you start looking at the Cubs, Okay,
they got some pretty good players, Okay, Okay, on that
on that roster, okay, uh. And on top of the
fact that they've got some good players in the oatfield,
(01:01:53):
they've also got Saya Suzuki playing the bulk of his
time at DH okay, So are they gonna Are they
gonna take Kyle Tucker out? Well, No, Pete Crow, Armstrong,
Ian Hab Suzuki in the DH slot, Casey's gonna get
some at bats, But I would not overspend on him
(01:02:14):
tonight because because I, hey, the Cubs are still sort
of in it to win it, and they ain't taken
any of those four out of their lineup on a
regular basis provided bats for Casey as good as he's
been down on the farm. So again, game recognition says
you should spend a bundle, I'm saying don't.
Speaker 1 (01:02:34):
Yeah, it's interesting with Casey. I I've been writing about
him all all season long, particularly in the last six weeks,
because he's really been on a tear and I get
what gets caught up. He's a good player, he's been
incredibly hot. But I was speculating in my writings, like
why do they bring him up? Because the Cubs, as
Tim says, they're in it to win it? Are they
gonna get Is he gonna have enough opportunity to get
(01:02:56):
any of bats? And you know the first you know,
one hundred of bats are gonna be terrible anyway. I mean,
like I thought it was a strange.
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
Call up, so did I You know, when I look
at the waiver war, if you were down two names, right, okay,
I've got Kyle Carros, Okay, third basement with the Rockies.
If you said to me, right now, who do you
spend more money on in the waiver war this week?
Casey or Caro, I'm gonna tell you to spend the
(01:03:24):
money on Carros. Yeah, because he's gonna play, He's gonna
have the opportunities. Most people would spend the money on
Casey because he's a highly toted youngster with huge home
run power. He's at twenty two this year in half
a season, the triple A, right, So yeah, Hey, the
name recognition screams Casey. The functionality screams Carols. Go with
(01:03:47):
the functionality and the opportunities that Carols will get.
Speaker 2 (01:03:51):
That makes sense.
Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
One percent agree with the logic, except for the fact
that Karros plays with the Colorado Rockies.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
Mission and he'll be and then he'll be sent down
into a week and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
That's right. But I totally agree with times logic. Just
the wrong player to I get it.
Speaker 3 (01:04:11):
Yeah, it was close on the list, so I scrolled
down and loose my plate.
Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
Could go to Dylan Bavers go one up on the list.
I mean, I would definitely rather have Dylan Beavers in case,
even though Casey's ranked higher than Dylan Beavers. He's a
better overall prospect.
Speaker 3 (01:04:27):
Yeah he is, but the circumstances by which he has
arrived are not better, not for this year.
Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
Uh. Anything else to say about Kyle Carros before we
get to Christian hove Er.
Speaker 3 (01:04:39):
No, I basically just copy and copy and pasted your notes.
Speaker 2 (01:04:43):
Yeah, and I agree with him.
Speaker 3 (01:04:45):
Yeah, he's he's got a bit of power, he's got
to be his speed, and right now he's got an
opportunity to play in Colorado, so go get him.
Speaker 1 (01:04:51):
Yeah, it's just standard caveat Colorado, Colorado. Thanks. We don't
know the reason things have gone side ways for Colorado.
We've always the pitching has always gone sideways or south,
but now the hitters have just I mean, we don't
want to belabor it anybody. Something's wrong, something's not going
(01:05:12):
well there. And if I were the owner, I clean
house and just bring a whole new crew in and
say do something different.
Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
Yeah. See, if I was the owner. I'd sell a
team to somebody who cared. Yeah, Christmas card list.
Speaker 1 (01:05:31):
Now I think they do care. I mean they the
promised course field. I mean, I just I it might
not be solvable.
Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
Somehow it's got to be solvable.
Speaker 1 (01:05:45):
Well, the nobody's been able to figure it out. I
almost feel like they should get rid of the humidor
go back and I think they put up a scoreboard
or something to cut down the I would make it
back into a hitters park because and it just it
just try to win twelve to eleven.
Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
Yeah, exactly, seven seventeen to nine. If it's a WY,
it shows up as a W. You know in the standings.
It doesn't matter how ugly it might be. And there
were there were a lot of ugly, ugly numbers when
the Rockies were dominating what twenty twenty five years ago. Hey,
take where it gives you. Don't try and change where
it gives you.
Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
Because it hasn't helped the pitching, if maybe marginally, but
it hasn't helped enough for it wasn't like when the
Orioles put the big hole in left field that seemed
to like make a difference in terms of how affected
the pitching was and they decided, Ah, that's not a
good idea. Nothing that the Rockies have done to try
to make it more of a neutral park has really worked.
(01:06:46):
It's just hurt their offense. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
Well, let's face it, rich, does an eighty or A
or a six year A does it make a difference.
Speaker 1 (01:06:54):
It doesn't, you know, it really doesn't. I totally agree
with you.
Speaker 3 (01:06:58):
Yeah. Yeah, even our era by two runs. Okay, congratulations,
it's still terrible, you know, yes, yeah, because I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:07:09):
You know, the if these guys, if Caros was hitting
twenty five home runs every year and twelve stolen bases
and hitting two ninety in the old Rockies world, he'd
feels so good about himself when he left Rocky Stadium,
you know, Corsfield and went on the road, he'd be
feeling good about himself. Now he feels lousy because they're
losing all the time. He's not playing as well on
coors Field because it's no longer a great hitter spark,
(01:07:31):
and I think it just brings everything down.
Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
I don't know, I'd still go with my plan.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
I would bring in relief pitchers like crazy that all
threw ninety five plus and just tell him to throw fastballs,
throw it as hard as you can go to innings.
Who needs starters?
Speaker 1 (01:07:47):
Christ only Christan Havier is also on the list. He
only pitched three innings today against the Warriors. I wonder
why that's what.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
I was just.
Speaker 3 (01:07:59):
Good catch on that one because I was wondering the
same thing. We'll have to see what the where it
says after the game. Uh, because he went five in
that first one, didn't he?
Speaker 1 (01:08:09):
Yeah? I think so. Yeah, I think he got the
win if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
Yeah, yeah, maybe maybe just pitched a lot of maybe
just do a lot of pitches.
Speaker 1 (01:08:18):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:08:21):
Yeah, and again it was Boston, so we'll see how
many how many pitches he was.
Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
He was against the Orioles today, three innings pitched, Yeah,
fifty fifty fifty pitches, I mean, thirty four strikes. Yeah,
looked okay. Nobody didn't walk anybody.
Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
Yeah he pitched okay.
Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
Yeah, And unless there was some something they just wanted
to limit it, you only a lot of won earned
run pitch. Well, I think he's going to be in
there every fifth day. And again, he's not gonna throw
ninety pitches, but he can win the games, pitching, throwing seventy.
Speaker 1 (01:08:56):
Yeah, that's gone to Jordan Lawler. To me, I got nothing, man,
I've been thinking this guy is going to be I
would have thought he'd already been established by now, and
it just hasn't worked. He just hasn't been able stay healthy.
When he's got the chance, it hasn't worked. Now he's
got a perfect chance to the last six weeks of season.
Speaker 3 (01:09:15):
Yeah, is he's still got to go through. We still
got to go through obviously a rehab rehab thing. But hey,
genius war Is isn't there. It's perfect opportunity. It is
a vacancy. It's got his name on it. All he's
gotta do is get through is rehab. They'll call him
up and we'll see him for probably I'm going to guess.
The full month of September.
Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
I had a chance to trade for Hineo Suarez in
a dynasty league. It's a league that I am winning,
and I've winning by a comfortable amount. The teams had
a struggle over the last three weeks or so, so
I've lost a little momentum before I was just way
out in front and one of my league mates. I
(01:09:58):
rarely offer trade in these dynasty leagues, just because of
of the role I have in those leagues. I just
I'd rather people ask offer me trades as opposed to
me offering trades. So he offered me uh Ueno Suarez
for Kyle Teal and uh All, the slugger in the
minor leagues with the with the San Francisco Giants, the
(01:10:21):
first baseman.
Speaker 3 (01:10:22):
Uh Bryce Bryce Eldridge.
Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
Eldridge. I knew, we get it. Two old guys come
with me, and I didn't really want to get up Eldridge,
but I looked at what Eugenio Suarez has done since
moving to Seattle. He has one home run, No, that
was it, and like two and a half weeks, I'm thinking,
(01:10:46):
give me another guy, like you know, So I went
with the old guy, went with Osuna, who still got
pretty massive power. He hasn't been great this season, but
it cost me less and I was and I'm gonna play.
So that's that's the trade I went. So it cost
me Kyle Teal and and Weathers the Miami Marlins picture
for your yeah, Stormy Weather. So I got uh So,
(01:11:11):
I don't look I I thought it was a fair.
Both of those deals are very very fair. Uh, and
I but I liked a sooner more than I did you,
Hano Suarez, I don't like what's happening up there.
Speaker 2 (01:11:23):
Well, he hits enough it shouldn't be a problem, but it.
Speaker 1 (01:11:28):
Has been at least. Maybe it's just unlucky the first
two weeks. Maybe it's going back to the abasement period. I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
The moving thing new pictures.
Speaker 1 (01:11:36):
Yeah, but I can win this season, so I want
to wait weeks from the find as mojo so I'll
deal with next year. I'll deal next year. Next year.
Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
Yeah, don't get ahead of yourself. Good good sage advice.
Speaker 1 (01:11:55):
Nolan mc you've already talked about and let's do one
more than we'll take a break. Louis Morales Tammy, you
told me he was going to be reliever. I said starter,
I think rich one.
Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
That bet uh, it's a darning good thing.
Speaker 3 (01:12:08):
We didn't have steak and liquor on that rich Yep,
I'd be buying supper and it wouldn't be drive through. Yeah. No.
My big concern was that he wasn't going to get
you know, he wasn't going to pitch enough m so
that it would count. You know. Okay, you gotta go
five innings to get to w okay, and his first
two outings were a couple of innings each. Well, he
(01:12:31):
sort of blew by that one in his last one,
going eight throwing eighty seven pitches. So yeah, it's yeah, Moralese,
it's time to go get him. And I think the
only he was at six percent was because every a
lot of people shared my thoughts. He's not going to
pitch five innings. Where do we want him for? Right,
he's a middle reliever.
Speaker 1 (01:12:51):
Well, to come to your defense, they had clearly moved
him to the bullpen, which made no sense, but they
clearly moved it to the bullpen, and I guess had
a change of heart. I haven't read anything as to
whether it's change of heart, but when he came up
and pitched three innings the first or two point two inning,
it's the first time out and then five innings and
they're they're stretching him out again, which is I think
(01:13:12):
the right thing to do.
Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
Well, And you can say the same thing for Perkins,
who's next on the list, right, Yeah, yeah, it's the
same sort of the situation. Right, how much is he
how deep is he going to go into games? And
he's going deep enough that he's good. Back to back
w's and he's good. Who's a Urina and the Twins
up next? So yeah, Louis Ford, Morales and Perkins I
(01:13:36):
think are fine options in deep leagues.
Speaker 1 (01:13:40):
Yeah, particularly anybody gets mist against the Twins. I think
you have to put him in there to me a
second other break it back and finish up your waiver
where my friend. Next guy is Bob Seymour. He is
(01:14:04):
an insurance agent the Greater New York area, So.
Speaker 3 (01:14:08):
Yeah, yeah, do we see more of them or do
we see.
Speaker 1 (01:14:12):
Less of them? Well, now that does not it's not
a baseball name, is it.
Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
No, No, no, Bobby Seymour sounds like the guy who
buys you a drink at five o'clock on your.
Speaker 1 (01:14:23):
Waist exactly exactly. But I mean it's pretty much a
life life for a prospect. And the Tampa Bay Rays
pixie dust always seems to work.
Speaker 3 (01:14:36):
Well, it's not like he didn't hit for power down
on the farm thirty homers eighty seven before. Yeah, and
they're going to play him out of the DH slot.
So well, everybody's figuring out how much to spend on
Owen casey uh I'll try and sneak in with a
cheap bid on Bob Seymour and see if you'll buy
me a drink before the end of the year.
Speaker 1 (01:14:57):
Yeah, but let's let's just be real. Bob turns twenty
seven the end of the let's see at the end
of the season. So he's an old guy. He made
his major league debut at twenty six years old, close
to twenty seven. So I mean, yes, he's always shown power,
but he's struck out too much, doesn't control the strike zone,
doesn't have great bats, blah blah blah blah blah blah
(01:15:19):
blah blah. But he's playing well.
Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
Yeah, and you know what, we have to have somebody
who provides us even a faint glimmer of hope that
they're Nielsen Cruise.
Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
We haven't had Nelson Cruise in a while, have we.
Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
Well, you retired from four years ago. That's why time
I was the.
Speaker 1 (01:15:35):
Second some guy that it becomes relevant at twenty eight.
Speaker 3 (01:15:40):
Yeah, no, you're right, we haven't. We haven't had a
whole lot. No, in short burst we've seen I'd have
to look back and yeah, that's a project for me.
I'll look back this week and see see who has
sustained a career with a late start recently.
Speaker 1 (01:15:56):
Colby Thomas. He's played well basically over the couple of games.
Hit another home run last night, and yeah, Colby Thomas.
Speaker 2 (01:16:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:16:06):
The big question was would he play? And the athletics
said we're gonna bring you up, so you won't play,
which made no sense to me whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (01:16:14):
They said, we're bringing you up, but we're gonna limit
your opportunities, Like, come on, the guys hitting the ball
all over the place, runs a little bit, then bring
him up if you're gonna use him. Right. Well, apparently
he's forced their hand because he's gone seven for fourteen
in the past four games, a couple of homers, seven
RBIs a stolen base. He should be playing every day
right now, shouldn't he.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
Indeed, let's see if he's playing today. By the way,
Joe Adell with his twenty six home run today, three
run home run. Wow, nice, just just wow. I do
not see Colby Thomas in the lineup. He is on
the bench. Tim.
Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
That's what happens when you go seven for fourteen, Okay,
it puts you in a in a strong position to
negotiate your next contract.
Speaker 1 (01:17:01):
Oh sorry, it's see, well Kurtz has got first base.
That means that they're gonna play solder strum. It's got
to be in the outfield. Uh, Butler is your center fielder,
a pretty good center fielder, and who's playing right and
the blade and it's just you know, they've got they
got a tough spot. I mean, there's just got too many,
too many outfielders at the moment.
Speaker 2 (01:17:20):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 3 (01:17:22):
True enough. I just think he's heating up a little bit,
and I think he's gonna get some more bets and
then al only he should definitely be rostered.
Speaker 1 (01:17:31):
Is it? Okay? If I'm skeptical about Taiwan Walker.
Speaker 3 (01:17:34):
It is perfectly fine. I was while I was typing it. Okay,
what am I doing? Why am I putting this down here? Okay,
he's thrown three consecutive quality starts past four games, twenty
three innings. He's a lot of a total of five
burned runs. And I'm typing this out and I'm looking
at it and all the while thinking I'm gonna mention him,
and I'm gonna get burned because he's gonna suck. Okay,
(01:17:56):
And then Rich'll laugh at me. But I got a
list of them.
Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
Right, Yeah, I guess, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:18:03):
Yeah, that's some of the things I was tormenting myself
with as I listed Tyn Walker. But hey, he's gonna
pitch every fifth day, isn't he? With Zach Wheeler out.
Speaker 1 (01:18:16):
I know Andrew Payter has not been great, particularly of late,
but he still throws one hundred miles an hour. Yeah,
he's only twenty two years old. Yeah, he's coming back
from Tommy John surgery. But it is a strikeout at
any it's reasonable walk rate. He's giving up a ton
of home runs, He's got a five to fifteen EARRA.
But he's got good stuff. I mean, why not give
(01:18:38):
him a shot?
Speaker 3 (01:18:40):
Well, I would have to say that they've probably got
his number on speed dial because of anything. If you know,
if Nola continues to struggle struggle at Walker was in,
there's you know, Hey, the season is getting short for Philadelphia. Okay,
they're in. They're in a race. They've got a very
good team. Uh there. I I think they're whole hoping
(01:19:00):
that ty On Walker can go out there every fifth
day and at least deliver respectable starts, and that would
solve a lot of their problems, but they still again
could have a problem with Eranola, so Peter could be up.
Yet Rich I wouldn't rule it out.
Speaker 1 (01:19:16):
I totally agree with that. I look, I I didn't
look they need it. They needed John Duran for sure,
right so and that that but that cost them Nickable
and mcabel last night I wrote about him in our
notes for Monday. I think it was six innings pitch,
three hits, one run, twelve strikeouts. No, I mean needs.
Speaker 3 (01:19:40):
Really they paid the price to get that closer, didn't they?
Speaker 1 (01:19:44):
But they needed it, But I mean they it's a
shame and how to be mckabel. I mean that they
could really use them.
Speaker 3 (01:19:50):
Well, you look at the rotation, and you know, Christopher
Sanchez is great, Lozardo has the odd sticker, but for
the most part, Lazarro was very good.
Speaker 2 (01:19:57):
And then you got.
Speaker 3 (01:19:58):
Tyan Walker, Aaron Nola and Rangers forres who I think
hit and miss is a is a fair you know.
Speaker 1 (01:20:09):
Also the same thing he did last season where he
was all world in the first half and then as
the season wears on, it just seems like he wears
out a little bit and the stuff becomes flatter, and
he's been hit around a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:20:21):
Well, and if you look at Triple A, Okay, they've
got Andrew Painter and every other starter that they have
at Triple A is twenty seven years of age or older.
Seth except for except for except for Painter, Yes, everybody else.
(01:20:41):
There's seven names there and they're all twenty seven or older.
Speaker 1 (01:20:45):
Yeah, but that's that's that's a for you. I mean,
that's that's just what you have. I've got, You've got,
You've got basically a taxi squad down there.
Speaker 3 (01:20:53):
You got all that, and it does at double double
A and all the kids, but even the kids twenty
four twenty, it's Griff McGarry, you know, yesterday I think, yeah,
I just don't know when, Hey, Philly, Philly could be
in trouble pitching wise, they really could.
Speaker 1 (01:21:14):
It's crazy you're saying that because two weeks ago they
looked they it looked like they were locked in.
Speaker 3 (01:21:21):
Well, yeah, you take Zach Wheeler out of there, you
trade Mickabel okay, who is your principal reserve, And then
all of a sudden, Aaron Nola comes back and struggles
a bit, and you're down to Sanchez and Lozardo and
Tyne Water.
Speaker 1 (01:21:38):
Well again, I think I think Suarez is like I've
always liked him more than you have. I think he's
a legitimate number four kind of starter. I think he
can get nyings out of him. But I'm wondering if
when the Phillies decided to move mc gabel in that tray,
they're going, well, we're gonna get Aaron Nola back, and
maybe they overestimated what he can provide.
Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
It's entirely possible.
Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
Maybe he was just knocking the rust off and we'll
see the Aaron Nola of old, you know, moving forward.
But two of old.
Speaker 1 (01:22:12):
I mean, that's where we need to say from It's
not the last couple of years. It's been rough. At
the beginning of the season, twenty twenty four wasn't great.
Speaker 3 (01:22:22):
No, they've they've got enough offense. They can they can
go with the guy that allows four or five and
runs over five six innings. They can't go with a
guy who allows four or five runs over two winnings. Yeah,
that's a problem.
Speaker 1 (01:22:36):
No, I agreed, agreed. Last guy. I love this name.
I think people should in more shallow leagues. This is
the guy you should be going out and grabbing. That's
JJ weatherhol. I think he's got to come up this
this week. I mean, it's crazy if they don't bring
him up. But I mean, as Tim said, you can't
trust what the Saint Louis Cardinals will do, but it's
(01:22:57):
they need to bring him up.
Speaker 3 (01:22:58):
Well yeah, yeah, so far in ninety five at bats,
he's got nine home runs in a ten fifty eight obs.
I think he's had home runs and three of the
past four were there. It's it's silly, he's he's a
good ballplayer. He's ready give them some major league at
bats and uh, I'm going to pick him up in
(01:23:20):
a couple of leaks tonight read Ricraft.
Speaker 1 (01:23:22):
It's the right move. I'm not sure he's a twenty
five from run guy. Maybe he's developing more power. I mean,
guys get better, they get stronger, but he can fly
out hit. I mean, that guy's well, that guy's got
again cornerstone written all over him. He's going to be
their best player.
Speaker 3 (01:23:40):
In OBP the league's uh OBP dynasty leagues. Yeah, fine,
give up where it's going to cost you to get
JJ weatherhold. He'll be worth it. I believe.
Speaker 1 (01:23:52):
It looks like the Close Report is a little bit
more stabilized this week. We've only got two names on it,
and the first one is probabing a Bray. I was
painful for Tim to write this, but he's the guy
that you got to grab in Houston at the moment.
Speaker 3 (01:24:08):
Ye yep man Houston and their lofty number one ranking
has moved down to number eighteen as a result of
the of the hater, the hater of injury. Yeah, no,
you got to pick up you got to pick up
a Bray. Who and then hey, if you're tossing darts,
(01:24:28):
tossed one, toss one a Topa and make it a
very very small dart.
Speaker 1 (01:24:33):
Yeah, last day, justin Topa. Yeah, I'm pretty much out
of out of fab now. So I got so so
Jojo Romero is available in one league, and Justin Topa
is also available in that same league. Who would you
rather have?
Speaker 3 (01:24:55):
I would probably if I had basically no FAB, i'd
probably go with Topa because you're also getting him probably higher.
Speaker 1 (01:25:01):
Okay, I think got plenty of FAPs. I might go
for both of them.
Speaker 3 (01:25:05):
Yeah, and you start looking in Saint Louis, you got
O'Brien and lay. They're both they're both okay, you know
what I mean, they can take the job from Romero
if he struggled. I don't think Sands or Thunder thunder
Burke is going to take the job away from Topa.
Speaker 1 (01:25:23):
That would be Thunderd.
Speaker 2 (01:25:29):
I think it's Kyle, Kyle thunder Burke.
Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
That's a baseball name as opposed to Bob Seymour. I
mean thunder that's a great name.
Speaker 3 (01:25:39):
Oh yeah, that's yeah, the thunder I mean, come on, yeah, yeah,
except it's thunder fun Oh thunder, Yeah, it's fun.
Speaker 1 (01:25:51):
Well that's even better. Yeah, yeah, yeah, bring the fun.
Speaker 2 (01:25:55):
Cody, Yeah, Cody Thunderburke.
Speaker 3 (01:25:57):
And he's a southpot that that's yeah, there we go.
Speaker 1 (01:26:03):
Let's take our final break to me come back and
try to make some sense of all of this now, well,
if people have their money worth gone over an hour
and a half. So thank you Tim for for staying
(01:26:24):
on late. I think it was fun. I didn't get
tired at all, so I feel good.
Speaker 3 (01:26:27):
No, and and you know we did we did miss
for Fridays, so a bonus of the of a long
podcast today and hopefully that that helps make amends with
our faithful listeners.
Speaker 1 (01:26:40):
Yeah, I've got the final steps to my uh life. Say,
I told you we moved all my daughter's junk last weekend,
which was great, so dropped it off.
Speaker 3 (01:26:52):
You didn't tell you didn't tell Lauri with I said,
I did get some chuckles, by the way, some comments.
Speaker 1 (01:26:58):
I don't remember what did you say? I probably I
don't remember. I told her or not it's a big news.
Speaker 3 (01:27:02):
And I said to Lorie's breaknant, remember.
Speaker 1 (01:27:05):
Oh that's right. Yeah, yeah, that's yeah. So uh but no,
so my daughter's got all of her junk, so yours.
On Thursday. She was thrilled. I will say I think
she too, but I mean she was like, she goes,
why did you guys keep this? I said, I'm just
(01:27:26):
the messenger. I didn't keep anything. Don't blame me. I
sent her a text message, do you want your old
field hockey stick? And she goes seriously like, I got it.
You want your field hockey stick? So last chance, last chance.
(01:27:46):
But uh so, So on Thursday I downsized, which was
again it sounds silly. I downsized or from a ten
by ten to a five by ten. I moved it
closer to our place here in Marstown, New Jersey, and
all that sun so tomorrow is our final step. That's
when we move all that we sent all the the
stuff that's left over to uh be called habitat, which
(01:28:10):
is the where you give you know, stuff for you
know that they sell it thrish shops and things like that.
So so we're moving all that and then then we're done.
So that's our, that's our, that's our tomorrow. That's how
we start off tomorrow. But to dinner tonight for us, Timmy,
I'm making a stuffed chicken. It's already pre made. Us
have to put it in the oven for an hour,
(01:28:30):
and so I'm making dinner tonight. But it's stuffed chicken.
Speaker 2 (01:28:34):
Good for you. That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:28:36):
Yeah, yeah, idea.
Speaker 3 (01:28:41):
I have no idea. We had homemade soup, so there's
some leftover homemade soup we could break into that. I
I have a feeling it's gonna be one of those
let's open up the fridge and see what we have
in there and go from there.
Speaker 2 (01:29:00):
It's it's been warm here.
Speaker 3 (01:29:02):
It's gonna be another kind of close to eighty degrees
or the day here. So I don't think we really
want to be cooking. Anything worse comes to worst will
throw some burgers on the grill and go from there.
But it's just gonna be I think, clean out the
fridge sort of sort of a Sunday evening.
Speaker 1 (01:29:18):
Now, I'm going to bring up something that you interesting
and I don't think we've ever talked about this. Do
you like gaspacho?
Speaker 3 (01:29:27):
Isn't he one of the Is he one of the
characters on Mario Brothers?
Speaker 1 (01:29:34):
That would be cold soup for her? Lous So Lauria
is always don't swear I didn't do it. Laurie is
constantly pushing caspacho on me, and I just I when
I eat soup, it just doesn't feel right when you
put something out of a bowl in its soup in
(01:29:55):
your mouth and it's cold. I I just don't get it.
But she a watermelon caspacho, so it had like spices
in it and watermelon based. Timmy was to die for.
So we had that yesterday. That was great. So so
in case you ever, yeah, I want something I've never.
Speaker 3 (01:30:15):
I've never had. I've never had it before. I've never
had it before.
Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
No, it's it was good.
Speaker 1 (01:30:21):
I've got it at the farmers market. You know somebody,
you know this farmer's market, somebody made it was good,
it was fun cool, and what's on tap for What's
on tap for baseball this week?
Speaker 3 (01:30:32):
On tap for baseball this week, I'm just gonna watch
my starting pictures lose games continually all week long because
of shaky bullpins and in between probably show up my
frustration by being snarky over at the discard site discord site.
So I'm gonna warn all the regulars over there and
Andrew Abbott that, oh man, that that hurts. I got
(01:30:56):
shares in about fourteen of my ten leagues and I'm
losing win is like crazy. I know, it's one of
those years, as you, I just can't seem to get
I'm getting good era, good whip, excellent strikeout numbers, but
I cannot, for the life of me by wins. It's
just one of those years.
Speaker 2 (01:31:15):
Frustrating.
Speaker 1 (01:31:17):
Yeah, it's it's funny, my I've got a number of
teams that are doing extremely well, and I feel really
good that I'm gonna I'm gonna win my league. And
it's been on the back of guys like Max Freed
and right and uh pitchers like Hunter Brown and those
guys have really struggled kind of coming down the stretch,
(01:31:37):
particularly Max Freed. I mean, I don't know if you
saw his game last yesterday. He gave up like seven
runs but still got the win. That is as ugly
as it gets. And his ERA is now back, it's
completely corrected. It's like three twenty five. But if you
recall to him, he had an ERA and the ones
for the longest time. And yeah, he's been that bad
(01:31:58):
over the last six weeks and so hopefully he's starting
to stabilize a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:32:04):
Yeah it's uh again, it's just been one of those
years pitching wise. And yeah, here here's a prime example,
you darbiss, just from pitching it great the last three
four routings, right, mm hmm, well today one inning, four
earned runs. Okay, he was he was on my bench
in a couple of leagues, okay while he was pitching. Good.
(01:32:27):
I bet you never guessed where he is for today's start.
Rich Uh blowing up my earra.
Speaker 1 (01:32:34):
I know, you see you've always commented that you get
all these innings and it's tough to blow up your earra.
You could blow up your earra. You get and it
gets close to these deeper leagues, you know, you lose,
you know, one point one on your earra you could
drop you three or four points in a league.
Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
Yeah, it's uh, I've got a couple of leagues where
I'm achieve, achieving and attempting to achieve that goal.
Speaker 1 (01:33:00):
All right to me, here's the trade, yep, and then
I'll let you go my Ronald d'acunya. Right, And he
also wants to roll as Chapman for the following and
again it's a league that it's a it was one
of the new Dynasty leagues with our Patreon site, and
(01:33:20):
I decided to go young and I picked I think
fourteenth in the draft, and I picked Ronald d'acunya, which
you know, it's it's he's I think he's great, but
it's it's so I'm it's a rebuilding year for me,
but I think I have a chance the next season
to play well and I've got some amazing rookies or
amazing minor leaguers. So I'm not going to win this season.
(01:33:42):
So he's also asking for a role as Chapman. I'm
okay with that, right because he's not going to help
me this season.
Speaker 3 (01:33:48):
Yeah, he's he's thirty five going on forty five. Yeah,
it's yeah, short.
Speaker 1 (01:33:52):
Term four, Hunter Brown, Stephen Kuan, Alec Carrolison, Troy Melton,
which we haven't talked about a lot. He's fantastic, and
then he's thrown in Jason Chase the Louder. I have
no idea. Yeah, who knows. That's the trade. So it's
essentially Ronald Acunya for the Louder, Melton, Kwan Brown, Burleson
(01:34:15):
and he throws in Chatman. What do you think.
Speaker 2 (01:34:19):
That's solid? That's a solid, solid deal. I like that.
Speaker 3 (01:34:22):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm assuming you have unlimited ie l spots.
Speaker 1 (01:34:27):
No, we've got ten.
Speaker 2 (01:34:30):
Okay, you might need eleven for the latter.
Speaker 1 (01:34:32):
Sorry, he's so minor league ellijeles. I'm gonna have to actually,
I'm gonna have to drop a couple of so I
get two really good pictures out of this. I get Burlison,
who we haven't talked a lot about it. He's been
really good this season. So if.
Speaker 3 (01:34:49):
Andrew Brown's your new ace, you're the anchor of your
pitching staff. I'm assuming because I.
Speaker 1 (01:34:55):
Got I got Eurie Prez so.
Speaker 3 (01:34:58):
Oh yeah, yeah, no, I like that deal. I I'm
having trouble looking at Ronald Acuna. The memories of who
he was and what he could do, or I just
don't know if we'll ever.
Speaker 2 (01:35:13):
See it again.
Speaker 3 (01:35:14):
And Hunter, you had me sold as soon as you
said Hunter Brown. Everything after that is pure bonus to me.
Speaker 2 (01:35:21):
Richard.
Speaker 1 (01:35:22):
Yeah, I mean, this guy's got a better team, so
I think he's he's playing for. I'm playing the long
game here because my minor league guys are you know,
let me just tell you some of the minor league
guys I've got. I've got Hoswi Prisina. Who is I
think going to be a stud. I've got Colton Emerson,
I've got Jesus Made, I've got Aiden Miller. I mean
(01:35:44):
it's that in my My pitching staff is good. I've
got Hunter Green, I've got Eurie Perez, I got the
guy you hate, but I love Ranger Suarez. So probably
been the biggest disappointment I've had so far. I mean,
he's just not been good and we need to talk
about that like a dynasty.
Speaker 2 (01:36:04):
Leagues.
Speaker 1 (01:36:04):
Is this a guy that's ever going to turn it around?
Or are they just going to say, you know, we've
had enough, let's put him in the bullpen.
Speaker 3 (01:36:13):
It could, it could, in fact boil down to that
at some point in time, just get him in there
and have him throw ninety eight miles an hour fastballs
every pitch, because let's face it, do the Rangers have
a bullpen right now? That's open open to interpretation.
Speaker 1 (01:36:28):
I think, yeah, I agree with that. So so I mean,
that's that's I think I'm gonna I think I'm gonna
execute it, but just essential seeing everybody who's known my
minor league's pitching. I've got Robbie Snelling, who I think
is gonna be up soon, by the way, And I
got Tomas White do I think has a chance to Yeah,
he's in Double A, so uh it's A. And of
(01:36:48):
course I've got erc in just about every league. That's
Elma Cruise for all the kids out there. But I
also got zyre Hope and you know, Jake Gilbert, I've
got him in this league. I think it's the only
thing I have him. Then he got promoted, by the way,
hasn't done ye yet, but that's kind of fun. Chance
to do something.
Speaker 3 (01:37:07):
No, you're gonna have a good rotation there. Yeah, the
potential is definitely. They're green pitch really well in that
first first starting back, Yeah, looked really good. So let's
just hope he can. He can stay healthy enough to
get one hundred and fifty innings in every year.
Speaker 1 (01:37:26):
I agree, all right to me, I'm gonna let you
go because all of a sudden, I lost my voice
and I'm looking around here and I forgot to bring
my water bottle.
Speaker 2 (01:37:34):
Uh oh, can't be having any of that.
Speaker 3 (01:37:37):
Be safe, be well, and good fortune, Stallar listeners. This week,
let's hope you move up a couple of spots in
the standings. Got you on Friday, Rich
