Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good afternoon everyone. It's November eighteenth, about two o'clock in
the afternoon. Hope everyone is having a wonderful Tuesday. We
are doing Hot Prospects of the Week, are looking at
the New York Metropolitans and their top ten prospects for everyone,
and then our Patreon members get what is there twenty

(00:23):
one prospects. I think that's what there are. So yep, no,
just twenty, just twenty prospects. So if you want all
twenty of those, you can join us at the Patreon
site pat r e o n dot com. Forward slash
prospect three sixty one. The Mets system is quite strong,

(00:44):
in fact, it is one of the strongest systems in
all of baseball. And with you know, at the top
the two big pictures and Nolan McLain and Jonah Thong,
and then you've got, you know, positional players like Carson Binge,
who I think I've heard I've read that he there's

(01:06):
a chance that he's going to get a he's going
to get a chance to compete for a job out
of spring training, which is which is interesting, and he's
probably a little bit more ready than Jet Williams have.
Jet Williams in front of Carson Binge, just because I
think Williams has got stronger fantasy tools. But it's these
top four. He even goes down to Brandon Sprot. I mean,

(01:27):
it just goes on and on. This is a really
strong top ten. But just looking at those top four guys,
these are elite guys with McClain and Jonahtong already in
the minor, already in the major leagues doing contributing it
at at that big league level. Let's go and take
a look at where these guys are ranked at. Nolan

(01:48):
McLain's a top twenty five prospect number twenty four, Jonahtong
twenty eight, Jet Williams thirty one, Carson Binge thirty four,
Brandon Sprout forty seven. So I mean, got five top
fifty guys and they're all kind of clumped together. They
should have had Nolan McLain higher, probably could have. I mean,
it was just a remarkable season. I still reserve the

(02:10):
right to do some tweaking here as we you know,
we as I haven't actually produced the top five hundred
officially yet. Okay, let's and I think it's also interesting
that my AI engine put Jet Williams number one, Nolan
McClain two, Jonah Thong three, Carson Binge four, Brandon's Brote five.

(02:34):
So and it's just strictly based on those fantasy tools,
the speed power that you get with Jet Williams. And
I think he's for being an elite prospect. He's one
of the guys that just never gets talked about. But
there's definitely plus speed there, there's good power, can really
run it down in the outfield. I think it's a
very very good baseball player. And I don't know why

(02:57):
why it's not talking about more. It's outfield, short stop,
a little second base, which actually might point to a
super utility role. Hopefully it won't be that, but I
think regardless, even if it's a Win Maryfield type of role,
I think it's going to be a very high end,
very high end fantasy player and contribution without further ado,

(03:20):
let's get at it here, get back over to my
list here. Okay, Obviously, Number one Nolan McLain. We all
know who he is. It's great stuff, it's athleticism. I
think he's a number two starter. He might even be
a little bit more than that. He could be an ace.
I mean, this is a guy that had a great
season coming through the minor leagues and then just posted

(03:43):
a one to twenty seven or a eight big league starts,
nine point seven, strikeouts for nine, three walks for nine.
It's two and four seam fastball averaging ninety five and
a half touching ninety seven. It's big stuff, and most importantly,
it's a sweeper of three thousand rpm. So it's tough,
difficult arsenal for hitters to pick up and to square.

(04:08):
So it's definitely a guy that broke out in two
thousand and twenty five, and I think we saw it
evolve into a great eight games up and it was
eight games up in the major League. Not a whole
lot more to say about Nolan McClain. I'm sure he's
going high in fantasy drafts. Let's see, let's see where

(04:29):
he is going to positions of starting pitcher or just
all pictures. I don't know why they don't. Nolan McClain
is the forty third picture off the board. There's probably
at least ten closers at that juncture that have already
been taken. So I mean you're talking a low win

(04:50):
number two, high end number three starters. So I've got
his sailing as a top thirty starting pitcher, and he's
already basically going in that realm, which is impressive. So
not a whole lot of projection there, but I still
think there could be more in the tank. Probably a
little rich for my blood. I was hoping to be
able to get Noelan McLean a little later. I definitely

(05:10):
am a dynasty leagues. If you have a dynasty league,
it's golden. The only thing that can possibly slow him
down his injury, which obviously could happen Jonahtong. I saw
pitch twice or three times. Yeah, I definitely saw him
twice because I saw him twice in a week. It's
almost Tuesday and on Sunday, and he or see pitch

(05:31):
better than Elma Rodriguez Cruz. But Jonah Toong looked fantastic.
It's it is a ten lens a coume starter kit.
It's an all out kind of delivery. It's good velocity,
fastballs up the ninety eight. It's it's definitely more ninety
three to ninety five. But he can bring it when
he needs to. It's a great change up. I mean,

(05:54):
that's the thing that is his money pitch is just
and he throws it a lot. But what he doesn't
have is a great curveball, cutter slider, I mean something
that breaks, and that's that's always been his problem. But
it's a heavy fastball change up guy. And a lot
of people love fastball change up pitchers and feel like,

(06:17):
you know, if they could choose fastball change up fastball slider,
they would go fastball change up just because you always
have something, you have something that that can be for
a glove side hitter and a armside hitter, right, So
as opposed to fastball slider, you only really have something
that you know, you don't have a pitch yet for

(06:38):
those glove side batters, and that's what the change up
gets you. So, I mean he's not a complete pitcher.
I have more of the number three starter. But I
mean he was arguably the minor league pitcher of the year.
He was fantastic, and he got up to the majors.
I mean he flashed off twenty one strakeouts and sixty
two third innings a five ninety four ear a. I
mean it's you know, he had that one really rough outing,

(07:01):
but other than that, he pitched quite well. And again
I see him as a number four starter with some upside.
If you think of a ten Lenscon career, it could
be something very similar. Again, Tong is not a big guy,
and you worry those big guys. The physicality is just
not there, So the workload's going to take a toil

(07:23):
on him, and he could be one of those guys
that you know, by early thirties he's done, just like
ten Lencacum was. So just kind of keep all that
in the back of your mind if you are if
you've got Jonah Toong rostered in a on your minor league,
in your dynasty league. Jet Williams again, Carson Binge and
Jet Williams are really side by side. I think Jet

(07:46):
Williams has got the better Fantasy tools, and that's why
I put him over Carson Binge because it's the speed.
He's a seventy runner, so there's definitely thirty forty maybe
more stolen based potential there. Again, they've played them all
over the field. I think he's going to primarily be
an outfielder. Can he play shortstop in a pinch, sure,

(08:07):
but it's a classic top of the order batter that's
going to get you know, fifteen eighteen type of home
runs and steal a ton of basses. I think it's
just a matter of time before we see him. Think
he's up sometime mid season, and it, you know, depends
if the Mets decide to sign players in the free
agent or kind of trade for an outfielder. They've clearly

(08:31):
got the minor league depth to do that, and if
you take a look at that roster, it's pretty light.
I think Tim and I talked about the Mets last
week and oh, the second basement is coming back from
TOS surgery Jeff McNeil, so I'm not sure he's going
to be ready. So there's going to be some opportunities

(08:51):
for these guys. And that's why I think they're talking
about Carson Binge potentially breaking camp. We'll see if they
bring in guys, because that's how the Mets like the role.
Carson Binge was twenty twenty three drafting and has really
moved quickly. It's on the doorstep here of the major leagues.
It's a really good hitter, some speed, definitely above average

(09:16):
average power potential, So you're looking at maybe ten to
twelve home runs, fifteen to twenty kind of stolen bases,
so a little bit lighter from a fantasy contribution that
Jet Williams provides. But Carson Binge is a better hitter,
so he's moving fast. If you would have stayed healthy
all season, you could have even have seen them at
the end of the season. But really interesting guy that's

(09:40):
just about ready. Twenty stolen bases last year, so twenty
out of twenty four, sixteen percent strikeout rate of twelve
point four percent walk rate. So he's just a great
natural hitter that's got a little bit pop, some speed,
and that's just who the player is, and those kind
of players stay in the major leagues a long, long time.

(10:01):
Number five is Brandon Sprote saw the major leagues at
the end of the season. I thought he'd be up
a little bit earlier, but he really got out of
the gates slowly and finally figured it out as the
season wore along. Now, he did pitch an awful lot
of endings in twenty twenty four, so maybe he just
came in a little tired arm wasn't quite ready, but

(10:23):
it's good to see that he ended the season strong.
It's a good control, great stuff, and I kind of
compare him a little bit to Hunter Brown, which took
a long time for Hunter Brown to get command of
his stuff. And once he got commanded of his stuff,
I mean Hunter Brown turned into Hunter Brown one of
the best pitchers in baseball. I don't think Brandon spro

(10:44):
just got that type of upside, but it's good stuff, size, starter, profile, etc.
So again, you take a look at those five guys,
really strong players, all top one hundred guys, aj Ewing
at once you get down this little things start to
rotate down a little bit. Aja Ewing is still a

(11:04):
tough prospect for me as a top one hundred guy.
Still see him as a top number three outfielder. Made
it all the way up to Triple A, spent most
of his time in high in Double A, but just
got that last week in the season they got brought
up to Triple A. But forty four stolen bases and
fifty one attempts I've seen him play a couple of times. Definitely,

(11:26):
seventy grade speed makes better contact than you think. Eighteen
point six percent contact rate of twelve percent walk rate.
I just don't know how much power that's going to be.
So the cop of Jaron Duran Somemer Fantasy pants standpoint.
I mean, you love Jared Durant and your team, it
doesn't seem like the Red Sox like Jared duran that's
just because it doesn't impact the ball as much as

(11:48):
major league teams like to see. And I think consequently,
aj Ewing kind of could fall into that same realm
as well. It might be a guy that gets moved
right because I think that Carson Bene and Jet Williams
just have higher upside and they've already got a bunch
of young players on their team. So if the Mets

(12:09):
going to move somebody here in the off season or
move somebody at the deadline, it could be a guy
like aj Ewing. But I like the player a lot
of him and a bunch of bunch of leagues got
out of the gate really strong and low way. So
that's when you know. If you're members of our if
you're a member of our Patreon site, you know I
talked about him a ton, and that was the time
to get him. Now he's an elite guy and everybody's

(12:30):
got him. Number seven is Jacob riemer r E I
M E R. I've seen every one of these players
this season with the Mets, partially because I see a
lot of Mets and Yankees games because I live in
New Jersey in the summertime, and I just naturally see
a lot of those games. So sometimes heading off to Brooklyn,

(12:50):
and but you know, I see a lot of High
A games, and that's the same division that the the
Brooklyn Cyclones are in, so I'll go up and see
the Mets games up in the Hudson Valley or and
then obviously my home stadium is in Somerset and Somerset

(13:11):
Patriots and the Mets are always coming in there for
their Double A and that Double A and High A
Mets squad was just loaded with talent, and jacob Rien
was one of those guys batting average, one base percentage,
twenty plus home run pop, A really good player and
a guy that hasn't been talked about a lot. I

(13:32):
don't think there's a ton of speed there. Maybe ten
to fifteen stolen bases, but I think he's going to
hit fifteen plus home runs, maybe twenty plus home runs.
So if he hits enough, which I think he will,
I think it's a really good baseball player. I've got
him as a corner infielder, so not yet ready to
put him as a top fifteen third baseman, but he's

(13:53):
kind of right on that edge, and I think he
has a chance to be a full time major leaguer,
and a pretty good one at that. Ryan Clifford I've
seen actually, uh twice this season. He is a big
boy with huge raw power. Thirty home run pop I
mean home runs did he have last year? Oh, he

(14:14):
could be a three true outcome player. So there is
some some of that concern because he will strike out
too much. There's also a little bit of platoon splits there.
But overall, I mean, I think not as good a player.
I don't think hass kind of upside that Pete Alonso has,
But I mean there's definitely thirty home run pop there,

(14:34):
and it's you know, it's going to strike out a
little bit too much. So it could be kind of
two thirty fifty batting average with one hundred points more
on top of that from an on base percentage with
thirty home runs. And that's just that's who Big Burly
first Basement turned out to be. So and I think
he's getting very very close. Another guy that could be moved,

(14:56):
you know, And is he gonna could he potentially be
better than vantas Is to be at first base if
the Mets don't resign Alonso or don't bring in another
first baseman. He might actually have more power than Viento's
and similar kind of batting average and better on bass
skills there, So I think he might be a slightly
better version of Mark Viento's. So if Vientos struggles and

(15:19):
the Mets decided to go cheap at first base, you
could see Ryan Clifford at some point. In twenty twenty six,
Elania Apenia was the big international signee by the Mets.
I think he was the either the number one Andrew
Sallis I think also got signed for five million dollars,

(15:40):
so he was one of the big international signees overall
and didn't get as much public as the hallswey Gonzales
is that his last name with the San Francisco Giants
that just and Gonzalez has got huge upside have actually
already written about him. How'swer Gonzales shortstop? I got him

(16:03):
ranked seventy four, so he seemed to have get all
of the publicity for the guys in the DSL and
rightly so. And then Elainey opinion. Though played well, slug
for sixty more walks and strikeouts at two eighty nine,
and I think he had six home runs and he
was his first like thirty games in the DSL he

(16:27):
didn't hit at all. He really started to put together
things at the end of the season. He has been
copped a lot to Rafael Devers. He thinks he can
be I've sent any interview with him. He thinks he
can be a better player than Rafael Devers, which is
pretty pretty impressive that the kids got that much confidence
in his ability. But I like him. I think there's
there's a ton of upside. I have him on a
couple of dynasty leagues. We'll see what happens when he

(16:50):
comes over state side, which should happen. I mean there's
a chance he would start the twenty twenty sixth season
a low way. I think he's that ats, but maybe
the Mets will played a little bit safer, start them
off in the Complex League before finishing him up in
Low Way and then our final guy in the top
ten is kind of an aj ewing type of player.

(17:11):
Nick Morribido saw him play a lot this season in
Double A. I think he was in High A as well.
I think I saw him in High A as well.
The games kind of run together, if you will, but
seventy grade speed, there are some platoon splits. So if
if that's the case, then he could become, you know,

(17:33):
just a strong side platoon player in the outfield. I
think there's going to be some power that develops. I
don't think it'll be huge power, but enough power I
think it to make it interesting. But he's got to
learn to pick up left handed pitching a little bit better.
I mean, it's the one thing that's holding him down.
If you take a look at his OPS splits, nearly

(17:53):
two hundred points difference in twenty twenty four and one
hundred and fifty points in twenty twenty five, so a
little bit better obviously in twenty twenty five, but still
not great. So that's I think that's the concern about
Nick Morbito. But I do like the player. I love
the athleticism there. What a strong top ten for the

(18:15):
Mets and well done. But I wonder how many of
those guys get up. I definitely obviously Nolan McClain and
Jodah Tong are guys they think they're going to go
to battle with unless they try to unless they try
to make a trade for a Trek Schooble type of player,
I have to give up one of those guys, which
I think would be really really interesting. So and I

(18:37):
just don't think aj Ewing and Nick Norbido, I just
don't believe both of them are going to be with
the Mets at the end of the season. I wouldn't
be surprised that both of them are moved at some point,
either in this offseason or during the twenty twenty six season.
That is our top ten. I'll take a little quick

(18:58):
break here and again, if you are not a member
of our Patreon site Patrio n dot com. Forward Slash
Prospect three sixty one, join us out there. Not only
do you get all six hundred and twenty five prospects
is what I've written so far. Probably got about another
five to ten to write. I still have got to
do the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers. That's where I

(19:21):
stopped them, and a chance to write this week because
my computer died yesterday. The keyboard just stopped working. At
first it was the tab key, and then the why
stopped working, and then you know, I cleaned it on
it just starting to fail. So I got a brand
new computer. It's so exciting, so hopefully this one, this
one I got. The other one I had to get,

(19:41):
and it was a quick buy that I had and
uh because I had to take what they had at
the store because Mike. It was kind of during the
middle of as COVID was coming out, and there wasn't
a huge supply of computers, so I kind of got
a uh, not a very powerful one, but this one.
I mean, the office depot had a ton of computers,
so I was able to get a fairly robust Lenovo.
So I think I'm going to be really really happy

(20:03):
with it. So anyway, that all day yesterday or yesterday
afternoon they go buy it and then set it up
and blah blah blah blah. So I haven't had a
chance to finish up the Rangers and Mariners, but I
will get to that. But until next time, guys, join
us at the Patreon site and for our Patreon members,
hold on and we'll be back in a few seconds.
