the peanuts and the Crackerjacks go yesterday was the day
about pitching in the major leagues. I think we can
agree so many pitching performances to get to, and I
think we have to start with Jacob deGrom. And it's
(01:09):
a good thing you're here for this one, because I
am going to bow down to you. Joe Alrico is
the better Joe. I was warn torn or war torn
I should say, or warren and torn or whatever from
years and years of Jacob deGrom where I just couldn't
I couldn't get there again. And Jacob de Gram as
the season has gone on, has been terrific. He almost
no hit the Orioles yesterday. When I saw the no
(01:31):
hitter alert, all I give thinking was like, oh, please
give up a hit. I don't want to see him
trying to go to one hundred and twenty pitches just
to get no hitter. That would make you really uncomfortable.
But he moves to eight and two with a two
zero eight era. What'd you think of Jacob de Grom's performance?
You had to be loving the fact that you were
scheduled today on this show.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
It warms my heart.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
It warms my heart whenever I get to talk about
Jacob deGrom but especially after that. I think it was
perfect through six and I was getting the NUTI vacations
and thinking please God. Like that, I was kind of
torn myself because I don't want to see him throw
one hundred and thirty pitches. Part of my whole reason
for targetting Jacob Degram this year was that he's going
to try and.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Keep himself more healthy, and he has.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
You know, he hasn't as much been going up over
one hundred miles an hour, and they haven't been stretching
him too much with the pitch counts. But if he
threw a perfect game yesterday, that would have been pretty
damn cool. But I'm also not complaining about seven shutout
innings with one hit.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
I mean, he's been brilliant.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
He's the number five starting pitcher for the season, and
to date he's been more valuable than both Zach Wheeler
and Paul Skiing.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
So I'm feeling pretty good. Joe.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yeah, Paul Skins when you get to him in just
a second. But first, in that same game, we got
to get to Jacob Mizerowski, who adds eight strikeouts just
two hits. That's what now? Was that four hits and
three starts is that where he's at right now.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
I think three hits. Three hits, all.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Right, he's three because you want to give up one
of the other one too. It's he's clearly regressing, clearly,
you know, every start, next thing, you know, he'll give
up four hits or five hits in a game. What
are we gonna do? But this was terrific to watch,
really funn you know, Misroowski, you know his the height,
It just feels like the ball is just getting up
all guys really quick.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
You know.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
It feels like he is, you know, like Randy Johnson was,
where he's just kind of reaching out towards home plate
and it feels like the balls is jumping on guys
and they have no idea right now. But he was
absolutely terrific. He outdo with Paul Skeans, who had his
worst start of his career arguably four runs, four innings
for him. He had one really bad inning. But he's
sitting at four wins still, and I keep saying the
same thing, which is he can't win Cy Young's before
(03:23):
wins and I don't know if he can get to
double digits on the Pirates this year. I just don't know.
So it was interesting to see Paul Skeans be human,
but it was even more interesting, at least to me,
to see Jacob Mizroowski be more than human yesterday.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
He's absolutely brilliant, you know.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Stuff is something that is kind of polarizing to some people,
but like one twenty five is an eye popping number
that is like would be at the top of the
leaderboard if we're talking about qualified starters. I worry a
little bit about the walk grate eventually coming back to
bite him. It's always been like thirteen, fourteen, fifteen percent
in the minors, so that's something I do want to
keep an eye on.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
But he is absolutely brilliant. I'm you know, I just worry.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
A little bit about the Brewers just because of Henderson
and how they treated him. I wonder if they're just
gonna take the reins off and let him just pitch
the rest of the season. And it's kind of a
debate amongst people about like where should Mizerowski slot in
the rest of season rankings. But I've seen him as
high as top twenty five in some people's list, and
it's kind of hard to argue it based on what
we've seen.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
You know, he's been terrific. He actually after you esterday
start moved to the number one in the Rookie of
the Year and the nationally too, by the way, which
is pretty stunning, which honestly, I kind of feel like
I had mentioned it on a couple shows that I
was on in the recent weeks where you know, people
were asking about Drake Baldwin and August didn't mirrors. I'm like, no,
it's not gonna be a catcher, and it's certainly not
(04:40):
gonna be either of those guys. They've gotten kind of,
you know, colder as the season goes on. And I said,
Miserowski's really interesting. You know, at the time, I think
he was ten or twelve to one. Now he's minus
one twenty. This might be the last time you see
value on it, dude, because I'm looking at it, Joe
and Bubba Chandler, We're not gonna see Matt Shaw isn't
doing anything Dylan Cruz has done. Like where else is
it coming from? To me? This might be the last time.
In fact, as I'm talking about it, as I'm talking
(05:02):
myself through this, I'm betting on it. That's what I'm doing.
You can see me looking off to the side. I'm
just gonna take it because I think I minus won
twenty whatever. I'll put a couple bucks on it and
see where it goes. I just think at this point
that's it, like the value is gone, because if he
has another three or four starts, this award is gonna
run away for him. Max Fried another good start for him.
(05:25):
He gave up one unearned run, he walked one. Seven
strikeouts again, Just Steller against the Reds, Nick Pavetta a
great performance ten strikeouts, and Joe Ryan, Oh, Joe Ryan,
eight strikeouts beat the Mariners. So my bets all went
up in flames yesterday. But out of all these guys,
he didn't have the highest strikeout totally yesterday. It was
you say, Kakuchi with twelve k's against the Red Sox.
(05:48):
So Joe, these were some massive strikeout performances. Which one
of these stuck out to you the most yesterday?
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Well, Joe Ryan is somebody that I have been really
really intrigued by. And it's not just with this season,
it's looking back over the last couple of years, but
how underrated Joe Ryan really is in terms of strikeout
minus walk percentage over the last since the start of
twenty twenty three, only Toreak Schooble and Chris Sale do
a better job in terms of striking out batters and
(06:15):
keeping them off base with the free passes.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Joe Ryan Is is an elite pitcher.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
But you say Kakuchi might be the guy that we
need to hone in on here, because he was pretty
much unroosterable as of three or four weeks ago just
because of that whip, Like the era was at two
nine to five and the whip was at like one
p fifty six. And since then he has completely turned
things around. And I was really surprised. Yesterday I had
a couple of people asking sid start questions about Kakuchi,
and I was saying to sit him because the Red
Sox are really good against left handed pitching. So that
(06:42):
one took me by a surprise.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Sure they loved you, Oh yeah, sure, you're.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
A very big fan, big fan.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
But you know what, he Kokuchi a month in change
ago was a sell. The strikeout right was down, the
walk rate was up, the expected ERA was higher than era.
Whatever he's tweaked or figured out here, obviously it's working.
Question here from Jerry will they trade to Grom I
don't think so, not right now. I mean, they are
only two games out of the wild Card right now,
(07:09):
and the Central is terrible. They're still seven and a
half games out of the West. I just don't think
they're gonna do it. I really don't. I think that
they're gonna hang in this thing. E have Aldi's back, too,
so you know, I think they're gonna try to pitch
their way out of this and somehow just backdoor their
way into the playoffs. Joe, do you see it differently,
because I just think they're gonna ride this one out there.
I mean, we've got if they fall apart in July, okay,
(07:33):
but I don't necessarily see that happening.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I think it would be pretty hard to find a
trade partner. So he's still got a couple of years
left on the contract, and as bullish as I was
for this season, I'm not sure what my evaluation is
gonna be like of de Grom for the next couple
of years. He turned thirty seven last week. Thirty eight
and thirty nine year old Jacob de Grom making thirty
seven million. That's a lot of good goal I don't
know if their teams are gonna want to pay that
(07:56):
for a guy who may throw ten starts for them,
so you know, I'll know.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
The team, the Mets. The Mets will pay.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
That would be That would be something that's interesting because
they have been Like when I was on here last time, Joe,
we were talking about like who's going to come out
of the rotation?
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Who about?
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Now it's like there's three, three friggin spots in the rotation.
So maybe they do go out and get a Jacob
de Grom. But thirty seven million dollars a year for
a guy at his age is a huge, huge risk
because a Mets fan, would you like to see it?
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Yeah, because the windows. Now you got Alonso, you got Lindor,
you got Soto's tearing the cover off the ball. You
give me Jacob de Grom in a short series, you know,
especially because it's back home. I just think that it
would really be a huge igniter to the fan base.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
And look, Uncle Stevie doesn't care about money. I think
we've proven that already. He just does not care. He
gives zero FS. So I'm okay with it if he's
okay with it. Edward Cabrera another good star from him.
He was mentioned on our buy video earlier this week,
and again I hope you did because it was another
tremendous star for him. He's probably gonna be out there
in the trade streets as well. Five or third yadings,
I would be out there trying to acquire him. Six strikeouts,
(08:59):
Drew rash said, shut out the Royals over five innings.
Now I want to talk about this start, So they
meet the Royals. He's six wins now in seven decisions.
He is a two four five VRA on the season.
He was pulled though, after five innings with just sixty
two pitches. That's the lowest pitch count in any start
this season for Rashmsen. So what do you make of
(09:20):
that getting pulled so early? A guy understand last year
worked out of the bullpen too, and Rasmussen has been
a guy who's been absolute godsend for fantasy rotations. But
what does the second half look like for rasmusin as
the workload starts to pile up?
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Well, I think part of this is that the Rays
are just a very frustrating team to roster pitchers and
players in general line because of you know, Rays are
gonna ray and all that type of stuff. They will
do things that are frustrating, whether it's bullpen usage, platooning,
or sometimes with starting pitching duration in terms of a game.
The thing with Rasmussen where it doesn't bother me so
(09:53):
much is that he's had a couple of elbow surgeries,
a couple of arm surgeries, so I think that they
are just being very, very careful. We're exactly at the
halfway point and he's at eighty four innings, so he's
pacing out to one hundred and seventy innings. Maybe he
goes slightly under that with them trying to keep him healthy,
but I could still see Rasmussen getting to know another
seventy plus innings rest of season, and maybe it just
(10:14):
comes with five six inning outings and they're not going
to push him. But I think he's still going to
be incredibly valuable. I worry a little bit in that
ballpark in the summer months, but they did kind of
front load their home schedule to avoid a lot of
that heat in Tampa, So I think Rasmussen is fine.
If somebody is worried about this, I wouldn't mind throwing
an offer at them.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Well, Welch is gone and he didn't believe in Jacob
Lopez in the last two starts. Maybe ju Urico does,
cause he just blanked the Tigers for seven innings now,
so I get it. He doesn't throw real hard. I
understand twenty one strikeouts in his last nineteen innings, though
in the last three starts, I don't know, Joe. I
think there's gonna be a hot topic on waiver wires.
I think Lopez is going to be a very trendy
(10:52):
pick up this weekend. I can understand why people weren't
buying it after the first start. After the second start,
people kind of go, well, you know whatever. Now the
third start against the top I think people will buy
in now and buying hard.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
That was kind of the big test, was going up
against the high powered offense. Houston has been okay, you know,
pretty decent this year, but he'd also kind of beat
up on Kansas City, beat up on Baltimore, Minnesota teams
that have been you know, kind of varying degrees of success.
But detroit'sp top tier offense. So seven shoutout innings against
them is the most encouraging thing we've seen from Lopez.
(11:23):
I'm starting to buy into it. I don't know that
I am fully bought in where I'm going to be throwing,
you know, ten percent of my fab at him or
anything like that. But I think that he's a really,
really solid arm. I'm just trying to look ahead to
his next start. It looks like it will be at
Tampa next week. So he's got at Tampa and then
versus San Francisco. So at Tampa is going to be
(11:44):
another test because that ballpark, with that lineup over the
last month in June, Tampa's been the number one offense
in baseball. So I kind of lean towards sitting him
and wanting him to prove it another time out again.
But I wouldn't fault to anybody for starting him at
this point.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
All right, one more note, actually two more nos on pitchers.
Yes's all pitching today. At the headlines, Mac Sureser returned.
I almost got the lines. I said, four and two
thirds three runs. He went five innings, three runs, so
pretty close, pretty close there. What'd you make of the
sures A return to the Toronto rotation yesterday?
Speaker 3 (12:15):
You know, I was kind of encouraged and kind of
not at the same time. He struck out the side
in the first inning that also did feature you know, you.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
Got a frozen Joe and it's not me. It's not me.
For ones, Rico is frozen. I can hear you find
but the problem is you're frozen. So we'll get Joe
Rico back in just a second. Let him come out
of there, and in the meantime, we're going to talk
about another start that was pretty awful. There's Joe Rico.
He's back now. So Joe Rico finish up Max Surezer
(12:47):
and then we're going to move on to another picture
that I think is droppable now across the board.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
So sures are.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
It was kind of encouraging. The three walks not what
I really want to see. He did strike out the
side in the first and then only had one strike
out the rest of the way. But considering it was
his first start back, you know, three year and runs
in five innings, it could have gone a lot worse
for Max Scherzer, so I was pretty encouraged. His next start,
it looks like he's gonna get the ball against the Yankees.
A little bit of a tricky one, but you know,
(13:14):
I'm feeling pretty confident in him right now.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Let's go to Alex's question here, what's up, Joe's Should
I trade my Devin Williams and Langford for Michael Garcia?
You want to make that move. I think it's a
little much.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Maybe a little much.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Langford's got his third obleak problem of the year that
he's dealing with right now, which is kind of tricky.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
And Williams.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
I'm pretty confident in Williams, but he's also going to
be splitting with with Weaver.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
A little bit. So I think it's a little much,
but it's not terrible.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Langford, Cruz, Profar rank the rest of season for Michael.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
I'd go Cruz, Langford, and then Profar. I don't really
have high expectations for Profar. I know he's been doing
pretty well in his rehab, but sure after the juice,
you know, at age thirty two career year, I just
I don't feel confident there.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
All right.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Zach Gallon, it's terrible. His last seven games has an
ERA of six y five nine, just twenty nine strikeouts
and forty one innings. I mean, you got to drop
this guy. Another five runs yesterday, just brutal. Like I
don't keep care as a deeper league now, I mean
if you if Jacob Lopez was out there, would you
drop Gallen for him? I think I would.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
I would drop Gallen to pick you up Joe. At
this time, I'm pretty.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Good still, but not in the pitching world. It's never
a good pitcher pitcher. For my back, I was a ketcher.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Yeah, I was a catcher, and then I was a pitcher,
and then I was later in my baseball career a
corner infielder. But that's neither here nor there. My baseball
career that ended at six, the.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Catcher and second base, that's where I played.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Oh, I was not good in the middle endfield. I
wasn't quick.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Yeah I was quick. I was always quick. I even
hit lead off for Legion ball back in the day.
Stole a few bases. I was good at I wasn't
the fastest kid, but I was quick, and I know
how to get good jumps, and I could do all
the little things. But but I digress. Let's talk more
about who else you would pick up besides I mean,
look Gallen right now. The problem is like if you
(15:01):
have him in dynasty and keeper leagues, I don't know
what you do with him, Like I just like you know,
just I think you just move on in some fashion,
whatever it is. It's just it's crazy because just a
couple of years ago, we were talking about it on
the live stream yesterday. He was a cy young candidate
three years ago, and now he's a guy that he
came in roster. It's an incredible drop off.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Zach Gallen, even with this year factored in, has a
three five to five career era. He has always been
really dependable. Twenty twenty one was a bad year, but
other than that two eighty one era two seven five,
two five four three four seven, he's been great. The
thing that's really especially concerning to me right now is
that he's had a cupcake run of opponents. The White
Sox beat you up. The Rockies San Diego and San
(15:42):
Diego we think okay, but San Diego has been a
pretty poor offense for the last while. Outside of that,
Cincinnati hasn't been great. They got to him, Atlanta, Pittsburgh.
He can't do it against anybody. So I think we're
done here. I think I'm done with him. I'm done
with Daly Obert. These guys can both get off of
all rosters at this point.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Joey P's probably built like a fire hydrant anyway. Wrong, alright,
let's go yeah, all right, let's go to some more
rookie lookie stuff. Let's go to Nick Kurtz. By the way,
GWN was just twenty nine years old to I just
want to throw that out there like this is his prime.
It's crazy anyway, rookie lookie, let's stop being depressed. Three
(16:20):
for three with a three run homer for Nick Kurtz yesterday,
he continues to just pound the baseball. Emt she Han
got thirteen strikeouts in six perfect innings on Wednesday at
Triple A Omaha City, Oklahoma City. Excuse me, and yeah, Dodgers,
what are you doing? Get that kid back in the rotation? Please,
with the love of God. Did dear Fuentes not so good?
(16:40):
Eight hits, allowed six runs, just one strikeout, three to third.
He's just not ready. He's not ready for big time.
I don't think we can evaluate, you know, where he's
at now. I think he's scared. Throwing him out there
against the Mets is not fair, you know, and especially
the way Won Soda has been hitting one. SODA's crushing baseballs.
But the she hadn't start Joe. That's the one we
got to get to right now is still available in
(17:01):
like seventy percent of leagues. That's crazy, Like, you gotta
go pick this kid up. He is definitely gonna be
back at some point in this rotation.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Absolutely. His stuff is good. The strikeouts are good.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
The command has always been a little bit of an issue,
but so far, so good.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
You know, he was literally I think it was six
perfect innings with thirteen strikeouts. So that's about as good
as it could possibly be for him. The Dodgers are
going to need him again, probably very soon. So I
guess the question becomes for a lot of people, emit
she and or Jacob Lopez.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
Lopez sticks in the rotation longer because eventually glass Now
does come back, and you hope that Snow comes back
in the meantime, you know, immediate help is I think Lopez,
believe it or not? What do you think?
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Yeah, I think immediate it's Lopez.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
If I was going to rank the rest of season,
I'd probably put she in above, but I think they're
probably the number one and two best pitchers on the
wire at the moment in most leagues.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
She and are Edward Cabrera's not close Cabrera.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
I want Cabrera too. He's somebody that worries me a
little bit. But he's been really good.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
I don't know what else. I mean, honestly, for two months,
he's been brilliant.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Two months.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Yeah, April he was terrible. Since April he has a
two and a half RA I mean, and that's a
fair amount of starts. It's not like three starts. We're
talking about like seven or eight starts now. So I mean,
this is this is what he is right now, and
you just got to go with it. Some rumors going
that Bob Melvin told reporters that Raphaeld Devers is gonna
possibly start some games at first base in the upcoming trip,
(18:30):
So there you go. And Christian Campbell's playing first base
today at Triple A. Just putting that out there too.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
I should say real quick about Devers though, that we
kind of need him to get in the field at
some point because we're trending towards utility only eligible Devers
in twenty twenty six. So let's get some reps somewhere.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Yeah, you think he gets ten?
Speaker 3 (18:51):
Probably not, maybe if it's like the Yahoo, because Yahoo
you just need five.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Yahoo, you just have to look at a position and then.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
Trip over second and your second base eligible. Yeah, yeah,
but ten might be tricky.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Yeah, speaking of the Red Sox too, by the way,
because when you're talking about Campbell, Richard Fitz really gave
a lift to that Red Sox rotation yesterday our boy,
and then Dicky Lovelady got let go in the same day.
It's very upsetting, very upsetting.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
And they started calling him Richard again right away. Richard
Lovelady sent down. It's like, have some respect now.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Put some respect on his name. It's Dickie Love Lady.

Yeah, well we'll say, we'll say, let's see what the
read is for tomorrow. All right, let's get to the
ups and the downs here and the fun facts. He's
got a lot of fun facts. Wan Soto two or
four two homers yesterday. Of course I am in the
home run hell because I had Otani and I changed
it two days ago he went yard. I had Soto yesterday,
changed it to Otani. He went yard twice. I'm just miserable.
(21:26):
But the multi homer game was his twenty seventh of
his career. He passed Jimmy Fox for the most multi
homer games before turning twenty seven years old. Holy crap,
I think we forget won SODA's twenty six years old.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
I know he's my age.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Crap, they'll get much. Look how much he's done with
his life. I know it top and make you think,
Joe Rico.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
And I'm just here talking to you. Look what decisions
have I made that led me to this point?
Speaker 1 (21:51):
I don't know. I hope that we get a Richard
Fitz followed by Dicky Lovelady, you know, kind of start
at some point. That would be That would be great.
Ronic Cooney is going to compete in the All Star
Game home run derby. That's exciting in Atlanta hometown guy.
I think I might just bet on him to win that.
I'm telling you right now. And Jacob de Gram, Jacob Lopez,
and Jacob Mazarowski did something special yesterday. It's the first
(22:11):
time three pitchers named Jacob or Jake delivered scoreless starts
on the same day. I bet you didn't know that,
Joe Rico.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
That's from the Sarah Lang's Handbook. It sounds like it.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Is exactly where I think I got that stat today.
So let's go to three up and three down, Max
Munsey in a grand Slam, Joe Adele two before a
seventeenth home run. Joe, where are you at with Joe Adele?
I haven't been buying, but now I'm getting to a
point where I might have to concede. I don't know
what do you.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
Think he's made improvements every year of his career? With
the strikeout rate going down, the power metrics have gotten better,
Like he's a fifteen percent barrel rate.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
That's an elite number, you know.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Forty seven percent hard hit is also the best of
his career, and as a really solid number. Overall, the
swinging strikes are still a little bit too high. I
wish he didn't chase as much, like he's not a
fully polished hitter. But if you're just straight up looking
for power, Joe Adell may end up hitting another fifteen
plus home runs dress of season, So I don't mind
it from that standpoint. I don't know that he's a
really well rounded asset, considering the bad lineup and the
(23:11):
poor batting average, but just strictly for power, I like
him a lot.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
Yeah, I would agree. At this point, you got to
just acquiesce and say, maybe it's finally just clicked after
all these years and it's been a while, it's been
a while. Zach Wheeler struck out eight, that's the last one,
but Noticiasion for him. That kind of sucked. So again,
everything just blew up yesterday in my bets, they were
so bad but at least I'm going to own it.
The downs yesterday cavill deval four runs, three earned. He
(23:34):
has not been good, is he? Ray His last two
appearances went from one to five nine to two seven eight.
So rough Patch, are you worried about him keeping that
job at all?
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Joe really like Rodriguez is a really good arm behind him.
But I think that Dovall, the guy with the experience,
is who they want to have in that role going forward.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
So I think that he's still pretty secure.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Okay, Next on the downs here we had Eric Fetti
allowed eight hits, seven runs, and get Williams again just
kind of sleep walking through life. I feel like four runs,
three of them earn, no decision, five and a third innings.
You know, a lot of us had high expectations for him.
His last six outings Joe thirty two innings, twenty three strikeouts,
nineteen walks. That's just not good. Like it's just the
(24:15):
Gavin Williams that I think we saw on spring training
that got everybody excited. I haven't seen him this year really.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
No like flashes here and there, and people will point
to the era being three six eight and say he's
having a good year, but that whip is killing you
one forty three without really much strikeout upside eighty strikeouts
and eighty innings. Like, I don't even see him as
somebody that's a must roster player if you're talking about
shallow leagues. I think that he's more of a streamer
that we kind of tricked ourselves in the thinking was
(24:42):
going to be really, really good. His next start is
at Wrigley against the Cubs. Don't know if I want
to do that. After that it's against the Tigers, So
I think you're dropping him in shallow for Mats unless
you really feel confident about those two starts, and you
probably shouldn't.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Down to the.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Injuries now, Jordan Walker goes on the tendail APPENDICITI, so
I hope he's doing okay. Alex Bregman unlikely to return
before the All Star break. It's not shocking. I think
we all thought that would probably be the case, but
just something to note. Mark Vientos is going to rejoin
the Mets actually today against Atlanta, so we'll see how
that all works out. Maybe some time away to clear
his head is exactly what he needs. Any hope for
(25:18):
second half?
Speaker 2 (25:19):
Mark Viendo's I just redid my rankings.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
I did like a midseason update, and I think I
had him as my twelfth or thirteen third basement so
like on the fringe of rosteruble in standard leagues, I
think there is a chance. You know, we saw really
great stuff from him last year. I think the power
is pretty legit, even though the metrics would suggest that
he's taking a step back this year. I don't see
him as a seven percent barrel rate guy. I think
he's definitely in the double digits, or he should be.
(25:44):
And if you look at fangrafts as rest of season projections,
all of them call for twelve or thirteen home runs
going forward in that lineup at third base, which is
a terrible position that's still valuable. So I do have
some hope. But man, he has been it's been an
awful draft pick this year.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Yeah all right, man, I kept my home league for
two bucks. I thought it was a genius and he's
been terrible. I ended up trading him in a big
package deal for glass now because he was only two bucks.
So I traded him. I traded Marcelo Mayor, and I
was like, let me take a shot, because I got
a shot at winning this year after a two year
rebuild that I've been going on. Reese Olsen struck out five.
(26:19):
Oh am, I frozen. Now do we all get a freeze?
I don't know. I see myself.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
I don't know if it was you or me. There
there was there was a brief little.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
Very apparently it's me. So apparently I'm okay though, Seth
and I okay, you can see me? Okay. This is
this is a very dangerous game. We're playing with the
internet here today with both of us on here. Reese
Sols has struck out five and two runs in four
innings and his rehabs star Casey Schmidt. Experts were negative
on the wrist, Zach Netto's day to day after the
MRI and his right shoulder didn't reveal any structural damage.
(26:49):
Luis Robert Man, oh Man, what a miserable year for him.
Hamstring tightness. He's day to day. Just a miserable season.
I was really hoping that Robert would get back on
track this year. It has just been terrible. Bryce Harper took
VP on Wednesday, Lance mccullors through a bullpen session, and
Spencer Arraghetti also through a bullpen session. So lots of
(27:09):
help coming from that rotation in Houston. They need some
offense to go along with Pana, That's what they need.
J Haino swears took like VP on Wednesday. White Langford again,
as you mentioned, Joe absent with the side tightness and
an ongoing thing for Wyatt Langford. Hunter Green is going
to throw a bullpen next week, and Shane McClanahan was
able to throw off a mound Wednesday. I still say
(27:30):
we do not see Sean McClanahan this year. What say you,
Joe Rico?
Speaker 2 (27:34):
God, I've been stashing him the whole year. I'd be
so pissed him.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Strider deal in my home league. That's him and al Contra.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
I get out Contra. That's another one.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
I hope that McClanahan is able to come back. I
think that we're trending towards he probably will at the
end of the season, especially if the Rays are are
still competitive, and I expect that they probably will be, so,
you know, I think a full blown shutdown there need
to be another setback. I think if he continues on
at this pace, then he's probably coming back.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
But in the Year of Bread.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
What does that look like? Joe I mean, look, it's
only the twenty six and he's just gonna throw off
a mound yesterday, right, So that's the twenty fifth throwing
off a mount. He's gonna build up, build up, right,
So maybe around what mid July he could possibly start
to make rehab starts and he would need a bunch
of those.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
I mean then maybe maybe August, maybe mid August, and
then and then maybe he gets six to eight starts out.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
I think that's the number over under six and a
half starts. I'm gonna go under.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Six and a half is a great line. I'd probably
pick a hair over. I'd probably go seven or eight,
But that's that's a proper number to set.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
Pet that's a cracker jacks over under six and a
half starts for Sean mccladhan. Drop your comments here on
the Twitch. Let's go to our favorite segment here. It's
the best Bets of the Day with Joey p and
Joe A. Reek. I can't be worse than yesterday, or
I hope not. Philly at Houston under seven and a
(29:07):
half minus one oh five. You got Hunter Brown Sanchez,
who are the best there is out there. So I'm
gonna go with the under on this one and say
it's more of a pitcher's duel. Freddy Freeman has great
numbers against Austin gomer four twenty nine career batting average,
thirteen ninety six ops. So give me minus one twenty
for Freddy Freeman to driving a run and give me
the Marlins on an upset. I'm feeling frisky, Joe, I'm
(29:28):
feeling frisky. Jansen Junk is on the mound against Hayden Birdsong.
I think the Marlins can squeak out of victory. Giants
still have trouble hitting the baseball even though they got Devers.
Offense still struggle bus a little bit. And Jansen Junk
has actually pitched pretty well. So those are my bets
for today On Thursday? What are yours?
Speaker 3 (29:45):
So I was gonna go for the Philly Houston under
and I saw you had it, and I thought we
might hold hands on that one, but I will let
you have that one on your own, So I went
and pivoted to Toronto money line Kevin Gosman going up
against Tanner Bibby. This one really comes down to the
recent performances of the offenses. Cleveland's offense in June is
the third worst in baseball. The only worst teams offensively
are the White Sox and the Pirates. Kevin Gosman has
(30:07):
had some struggles up and down this season, but I
think this is a spot for him to really succeed,
especially because Toronto's offense has been fantastic. Toronto has been
on par with the Dodgers in June in terms of
their offensive output, and you know, I think they're probably
going to slow down at some point, but I think
they can definitely maintain that through today. And by the way,
these are a lot of early games today, so if
you are trying to tail a lot of these are
(30:28):
one pm two pm Eastern start times. Usually I try
to pick night games, but there's only one two.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
He's only one, so it's like, who was in the afternoon.
I tried my best.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
So yeah, moving on to a guy you probably have
never heard of, and I wouldn't hold.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
That against you. Dietrich Ends.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Who's going to be getting the ball for the Tigers
today against the Athletics. Thirty four year old journeyman type.
He's only made one career start, and I just figured
this is going to be more of an opener. Three
and a half strikeouts doesn't seem like a crazy high
number for him to meet, but I don't see him
going past maybe two or three innings, So getting that
one at plus money feels like a pretty solid arguing
to me. And then Jansen Junk over one and a
(31:02):
half walks. Like Joe mentioned, he's been pitching well, this
one comes down more to the Giants. In the month
of June, they have the highest walk rate in baseball
almost at eleven percent. They added Devers into their lineup,
who has been walking seventeen percent of the time this year,
so over one and a half walks for Jansen Junk
had a really nice plus one forty five line.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Just two joes betting on Jansen Junk. That's what we're
doing today, baby. And of course, if you're betting on
Jansen Junk or any Junk, make sure you do it

I'm falling behind a be a bad spot, but Wonky
(32:01):
Penguin is getting it done. Who do you wonk Wonky
got to yesterday? I can only assume she also had
mister Sodo. That'll be my guess. So good for her.
Georgia at thirty five. Good to see somebody representing us here.
Twenty three is still the number. I'm still at nineteen.
I gotta figure something out.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Man.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Twenty one would have been nice for me if I
had Sodo. So bad, Sammy Sosa Jersey still up for grabs,
Joe Rico, where are you going for your home run call? Today?
Not a lot to choose from.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Not a nott a ton, But I'm targeting Austin Gomber
pretty much. Any bet you can make against him, you
should be making it today. I think the earned run
the line is set at four plus, but just just
take it because he's awful going up against the Dodgers.
So Andy pa has is going to be my home
run call. I believe it was plus three fifty or
plus three seventy five, depending on your book.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
That's a good one. I'm gonna stick with Freddy Freeman.
I'm also going Dodgers plus four hundred there, just playing
the numbers against Gomber. He's got a bunch of home
runs against him in his career. So again, go to
