yesterday a light day of baseball. Do you like the
light days of baseball where you could focus in a
little bit more on what's going on? Or you a
full slate kind of guy?

As a content person, I tend to like the Mondays
and Thursdays where I'm able to fully appreciate the slate.
When there's fifteen games going on, especially if it's on
a weekend and the start times were all within an
hour or two, things get lost. It's impossible to watch
all the games going on at once, So when we
have a shorter slate, we can really hone in on
the important things. So let's get into it, my friend.

Yes, let's start with a question here, because I like
this one yo yo yo from the Big Dance were
starting Eavaldi and Uri Perez today. I'm a no to
both of these personally. I'll want to see it first,
especially from Perez. I need to see a little bit more.
If you're desperate, If I had to pick, only one
of them would the guy that I would pick, But again,

I know he threw like a fifty pitch bullpen and
he said I'm good to go. I'm still skeptical that
it's going to be a great return, But I don't know, Joe,
what do you think about Evaldi and Perez just throwing
him to the wolves today?

I think it's a little bit risky on both fronts Now,
Arizona is missing Corbyn Carrol, which is a huge piece
of the offense, so true feel a little bit better
about that than I would have a few days ago.
With Valdi. I think it's more so just to worry
about how long he's going to go, whether it's going
to be sixty seventy pitches or if they just let
him go. I think that generally speaking, if it's a

daily format, I'm probably going to Valdi and leaning towards
sitting Perez, but I wouldn't have a problem sitting either
of them, just to see how they look in their
first time back.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
All right, We did have a return yesterday of Shota Imonaga.
One hit five score listenings on Thursday against the Cadinals
Seth's Cardinals. They are a producer. He came back from
the io forty six fastballs, five outs on the fastballs,
and twenty seven strikes on those, with nineteen coming on
foul ball. He struck out three guys. His era is
now two five four, His record is four to two.

But I keep saying the same thing, which is the
deeper lying metrics on show to Imanaga are not great.
They haven't been all year. Strikeout rate down by a
long shot. Uh walk right up. Expect the ray higher,
way higher than the regular era which is sub three
right now. I still say that if you have showed
at Imanaga and you somehow landed on Mizerowski or you

picked up Mobitch or you you know, whoever you have
that's been getting it done, and Emanaga can bring you
back a big bat you need, I'd be willing to
make that deal. What did you think of Imanaga's return
and what do you think of his value rest of season?
Because I feel like he's still a guy who could
bring back a ton for you in a trade.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Yeah, fairly promising return, you know, just one hit over
the five innings. But I agree with you that he
is somebody that I would be looking to sell and
I think if you know, the majority of people are
going to look at ERA and WHIP and those are
at two five four and one zero three. So I
agree that you'd be able to get a really nice return.
But eighteen percent strikeout rate is awful. That's well below average,

Like that's that's not even really playable in most leagues.
Down from twenty five percent last year. The walk rate's
almost doubled. You know, I'm a big expected stat guy.
If you look at the expected ERA, the FIP, the SIERRA,
they're about two full runs higher than his actual er
little no this like.

It's a that's the thing. I keep saying. It's like
two five fours ERA, but it's expected or is four
three zero. Yeah, that's ridiculous. The expected FIP is four
a two. The FIP is four three two. I mean
this is a huge cavern Joe.

Yeah. And I think a lot of it does come
down to the strikeouts because a lot of those metrics
do rely heavily on strikeouts and walks, and those have
been awful for him this year. But he's not a
big stuff guy. You know. The swing strike rate has
gone down this year from where it was last year.
There's not a lot that's terribly encouraging. With showed at Yumanaga.
He still gets a good amount of whiffs. But I'm

overall really on the side of selling him if you're
able to, and I think you are able to.

question here? I have a fantasy court question. Oh boy,
If two teams agree on an initial trade, but the
trade that got sent was different, sent late at night
and worse for the person who sent it, and it
was accepted, is that trade subject to a veto? Or

on the players in whatever system you're playing on, Like,
how does that work?

I don't understand the trade that sent was different, so
you agreed on player A, player B, and then it
was somebody made a last second switch. I don't really,

Look, you have to have you have to have receipts
on this and speak to the commissioner. So if you

the USA today to get the stats. So you make
sure that you can tabulate everything correctly. Like, what the

like the Rays should stop fusing around, you know, like
but one of these years, especially in the American League
is so weak. I feel like this year the Central
is very weak. The West has had a lot of injuries.
The East is the Yankees, and the Yankees I don't
think are unbeatable in a short series. I don't know
if it just feels like it just if you're a

Rais fan and there's like three of them, and one
of them is Jason Collette. I kind of feel like
you should just go for it, Just go for it
one year.

They're not gonna be the type of team to go

like that. But there are definitely moves they can make.
The Pirates are gonna be huge sellers. I would imagine

they could go for a Bednar. You can maybe go
for a Mitch Keller, although they don't really need a
starting pitcher.

What about Reynolds.

Reynolds would be interesting. The only problem is that their
outfield has been a bit of a log jam. But
I think Brian Reynolds would slot in.

That solves it. You know, maybe just maybe if the
deal of Candler Simpson or something like that. Michael wants
to know Uri Perez or Jacob Lopez. So who would
you rather start this weekend?

Just for this, like, if we're talking about this week.

Lopez this weekend or well Pez is Monday.

Let me look is his next start? So he's got
a two start week next week Tampa. I thought he

want rest of season here? I'd still want Uri Perez.

I'd still want Uri, but Lopez is a great pick up.
Next week is a pretty decent two step, although the
first part of it coming at Tampa doesn't give you
the warm and fuzzies, but that second start at San
Francisco is a pretty solid one to target. Just at Tampa.

but all the expected eras and x fips of the
world are better. So I'm still pretty confident in him.

I agree that it's still a bit of a wild
card and then certain tough matchups you might want to
lean towards sitting him. But I'm still pretty confident with
Gosmin going for.

be a huge blessing that he came back because they
needed him this year. They've needed these thirty plus things
that they've gotten from Kershaw in the worst way.

I would say, I agree with everything you said, but
I do think that you could probably look towards selling
him right now after a few good starts. The name
value probably isn't what it used to be. But Clayton
Kershaw with a three to zero three era, somebody who's
just lost some pitching might be interested in him. And
considering the strikeout rate going down, the walk rate being
as high as it's pretty much ever been going back

fifteen years, you know, if you look at the zone
contact numbers, batters are making more contact in the zone
than they ever have and they're chasing less than they
ever have before. You know, the stuff is taking a
nose dive as well. Like he is succeeding right now,
but I think that the bottom will follow it from
under him. And I wonder, you know, because he's only
a couple strikeouts away from three thousand these three away. Yeah,
once he hits that number, I wonder what the rest

of the season is gonna look like from him. Not
that he's gonna just stop performing after that necessarily, but
I think that's a big milestone that he wants to
hit and once we get there, I just I don't
really know what to expect from him going forward. But
if you can sell based off of this is Clayton
Kershaw he's got a three era, then I'd be in
favor of doing that.

It's really smart. Now it would be the time to
sell on him. You never know what kind of other
injuries or the age catching up with him. Glass now.

I think they said the eleventh of July is when

be a pretty good asset in your batting average, but
the Colorado lineup around him is really bad. Soderstrom would
be the pick for me if you're really desperate for power,
If you really need power, Tyler Freeman's probably not going
to do a hell of a lot for you, but

think starting to pick things up. He's looked much better

in the last month, though I'm optimistic. I know his
struggle a bouts in April and May a little bit,
but June's looking better. And I give the Astros credit
and saying, hey, you know, we're gonna stick with this
kid for better or worse, and we're not going to,
you know, overreact. And so far as paying off Jordan Lawler,
who's a guy that I do think you should still
pick up this week. It's gonna be cheaper to pick

him up because he's going to miss at least a week.
He's got a hamstring injury, so I mean, he's had
so many injuries but stash him now anyway, if you
have a roster room, because come August, he's gonna be
playing every day, There's no doubt about that. Maybe even
by the All Star break, he's gonna be playing every day.
Dinnie or Fuentes is gonna make another start if the
Bray's rotation. Do you think that's a good idea, Joe Rico,
I do not, No, I don't.

I think they're kind of pushing the issue here. He's
twenty just turned twenty years old. He hasn't looked great.

It looks like the next drinking Canada.

Though. He can come down to my neck of the
woods and have a beer, and he might need one
if they keep him up and keep getting thrashed. I mean,

Yeah, I mean, certainly not been good. And again it's
just a lot of pressure on him. So Atlanta's got
to figure things out. You know, Atlanta, they have a
stretch here. This is it. These next couple of games, right,
because they play the Orioles, they play the Angels, they
play the Athletics, and I think the Cardinals in this
mix before they all star breaks. So they could still
chop away at that Wildcard. But if they don't, if

they go five hundred over that stretch, I think they

is super fun. But if you really think he's not
headed towards Tommy John, you're crazy. Right now. This might
be the time too, if you have him as an
asset in a Diynosa are keeper league where somebody's just
gonna be willing to just throw the kitchen sink at
you in a trade. If you want to take that

and go win a league, do it. I would do
it right now because he at some point he's gonna
miss the season and change. It's just gonna It's just
a fact at some point that geek wants to know.

seventy or two eighty rest of the way, but won't
be a lot of homers, won't be a lot of steals.
I think in a lot of cases you can move
on and you have a solid outfield, So I don't
really mind it.

four his thirteenth homer against the Cardinals. And where do
he do it? Bush Stadium? Gotta love that. That's a
first Bush going yard in Bush cam Schlider, dogs and

Carl's Correa. Nothing worked for the Giants. But finally they're
kind of figuring things out. But there's still six and

a half games behind the Dodgers despite all of that.
And I look at the pitching staff and after Webb
and I know Robbie Ray's pitched really well. I definitely
have my concerns about what's going on. I think the Giants,
if they're really serious, they can't rely on Verlander and
bird Song at the end of this rotation, they just
can't do it, So we got to look somewhere else.
I think maybe the Giants, if they're truly serious, and

(31:00):
they must because they're only a half game out of
the Wildcard, maybe they should be out there pounding the
payment for another starting pitcher, because I don't think what
they've got currently constituted the back end at four and
five are really enough for them. You hope that the
Bats can come around a little bit, but maybe, just maybe,
if you're the San Francisco Giants, you sense a little
bit of a weakness here on the Dodgers, especially with
all the pitching injuries they've had, that if you could

(31:21):
just get to the playoffs and get into a short series,
maybe you could take out the Dodgers. I don't think
it's impossible. Heck, the Padres almost did it last year.
So those are the challenges facing the San Francisco Giants,
who are doing a good job. Giants fans should be
very happy with what the ownership has done there. And

Griffin Canning may have suffered achilles injury, and it certainly
did look like it. It was terrible looking, very sad.

Griffin Canning has been terrific this year for the Mets,
I mean complete turnaround for him. So again, it's like
when it rains of poors and right now it is
raining cats and dogs and the Mets healthy rotation because
it has gone from the top the healthiest to now
we're like, uh, when is seaum and I coming back?
Is he coming back next week?

My god, I hope. So, so what do you make
out of this latest injury and what the Mets should
do after it?

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Now, Well, didn't and I have some kind of setback.
Didn't they just push him back or something?

Speaker 1 (32:34):
He had loose bodies in his elbow? So basically what
they do for that is they give you a courtzone
shot and they say suck it up, buttercup. That's basically
what they say. And then in the off season you
have that surgery to remove the loose bodies and get
recover and you're fine. Ron Darling on the broadcast, you
pitched for many years, very good pitcher in the major leagues.
He had it twice and he said, yeah, it's a
pain tolerance thing and he should be able to tolerate it basically.

(32:57):
But what do you expect. He's an eighty six met
So all those guys were built a little differently.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
I don't know, man, what's like if I'm counting on
Manaia to throw quality innings for the match or for
my fantasy teams, you should probably make alternative, alternative arrangements.
At this point, I don't know really what they're gonna get.
I mean, we talked yesterday about the potential for Jacob
de gram reunion. Maybe they go after a Keller or
another name on the market, Sandy maybe, but they need

some reinforcements At this point. McGill gone, code, I sanga,
who knows when he's coming back? Man, who knows when
exactly he'll be around and what he'll look like. I
think they need to make when.

I is playing catch Thursday, so the fact that he's
playing catch again. You hope that he goes back out
on the rehub. I'm expecting him again like the glassdown play,
like he's back after the All Star break.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
I don't think they can have Paul Blackburn starting meaningful
games down the stretch. I think that needs to stop.
That needs to change.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
Well and Montas, I mean, like, I'm still in awe
of what I saw with Frankie Montes. If Montas can
well in thestead, that's huge. If they can get Manaya back,
I can get about before the All Star break awesome,
like he was getting real close and until the setback,
So I can only imagine the setback is gonna pus
him til after the All Star break. Now, So that's fine,

Like I'm okay with that, especially because he had so
many innings last year. That's the other thing too, seem
and I had a giant amount of innings plus all
the postseason innings, and those were laborious postseason things. He
was in some big pressure situations and he performed very well.
So I could see them putting that off Senga. You
can hope that you get Sanga back too. I just
don't know if that's enough. Like I think you need

another insurance policy. I don't know who that is, but
I think the Mets would be wise to go all
in and make a splash and do something there. I
think that's what we should do. All right, let's do
the next bit here for injuries. Also, Mark Viento's was
supposed to be activated yesterday, but it's gonna be activated
to today instead. Jose Ramirez left the game yesterday. I
got hit on the arm. It was a bruise. Everything

(34:57):
was checked out. I don't know if he's get into
the line up today or all of those lines that
come out yet since we started, but he's day to day,
so maybe he sits today and back by Saturday. We'll see.
Vlad Guerrero Junior also got hit. A lot lots of
guys getting hit yesterday, Joe, what'd you think of all
the uh, all the guys getting dinged yesterday? Big time
players too, Vladdie and Jose Ramira.

Well, they hit Vlattie two days in a row. So
Gosman went out there and threw a fastball at Jay
rams side and he ended up like moving his arm
and it hit him in the arm a little bit.
But I kind of like it. Maybe he's just come on,

the situation, but like, if you're gonna throw at our
star player two days in a row, then we're gonna

his command can be something that's a little shaky at times,
but if you're looking over the course of the month
of June, Toronto is walking less than any other team
in baseball to six and a half percent, So I
feel pretty good about that one at plus money. A
little bit on the safer side with landon Route over
four and a half strikeouts going up against the White

Sox today, a team that strikes out quite a bit.
They're not the top strikeout team in the league, but
if you're just looking at June, the fourth worst strikeout
rate at twenty five point eight percent, So I feel
pretty good about that one as well. And then Sunny Gray.
I'm doing a little bit of a parlay here just
to get the better line. Sonny Gray over five and
a half strikeouts against Cleveland and their future to offense
and also going with the Cardinals money line in that

one for plus one ninety so like in all three
of those, Brian Bayo under one and a half, Walks
landon Route over four and a half strikeouts, and then
Sonny Gray over five and a half k's combined with
the Cardinals money line.
