Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hello, everybody, Welcome into the cycle. I am Ryan Warmley,
joined for the last time in season INTOY twenty five five.
Mike Mayor the first a way I frame that it
sounds like you're stepping away. I will be the one
who is not doing the show anymore for the next
couple of months. This is my annual responsibilities on the
football side just get to be too much and the
company decides to have me step away from the cycle.

(00:27):
It is not something I fight, but not necessarily my
choice either. Don't come strictly yell at me, but it
does kind of make sense all around with everything we
have going on in August for.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
A draft seasons.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
So just right off the bat admitting it that Mayor
isn't pushing me away. This isn't because we hate each other.
This is because I have to go to a lot
of football work over the next couple of months. But
you are in good hands. The cycle is continuing. Mayor
will be here and hosting, which I know everybody loves.
Kelly Kirby will be joining him for most of those shows.
I would imagine if she's not available here and there,
maybe some other guests, but it'll largely be Mayor and

(01:00):
Kelly going forward, So Mayor, go ahead and celebrate that
I'm stepping away.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
I know you're really excited about it.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Yeah, I wish I had the ability to like add
like drops in real time and like just like hit
a button and bring in that like boo this man meme,
like boo this man boooo.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
They're saying boom boo.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Oh Simpsons reference from you.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
I know I need that was just for you for
our last show of the year, A treat, But yeah,
I know it'll be the same show that you guys
have heard before when I'm out with Mayor and Kelly,
and you know, nothing will change of with just the
the voices on here. So Mayor will be hosting and
you guys will all have fun doing that going forward. Today, Mayor,

(01:40):
we are taping an extra day you know later, because
we wanted to leave room to react to the trade deadline.
We normally taped on Thursdays, the deadlines at four pm
on a Thursday. We were like, let's not just you know,
talk about stuff that hasn't happened yet and have it
be out of date by the time this episode post
that's trade deadline.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Has My boy would happened.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Very much, so, so we're gonna be doing some trade
deadline reaction. There's not really like a framing for this.
This isn't We're not talking about it in terms of
like winners and losers or anything like that. It's just
basically kind of running through the major transactions and what
we kind of think about them from a fantasy perspective,
so just kind of reacting to it in general.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
We also run through our kind of.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
A typical news and notes, and then because the trade
deadline has passed in most fantasy leagues also, we're not
going to be doing our buys and sells anymore. We'll
still be doing kind of a waivers central talking about
pickups that we're interested in adding maybe some deep league
targets for you.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
This is all in part.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Two, by the way, we're gonna be splitting this episode
up into two, and of course we'll do our pitching,
streamers and everything at the very end.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Does that sound good, mayor.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
That sounds great? Let's do it all right.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Let's start off with the news and notes here.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Lots of injuries, particularly to my contending Dynasty team, which
I know nobody cares about, but Ronald Acunya obviously had
the issue where he was feeling something in his achilles
and kind of calf and is out for a couple
of weeks. Jackson Churio with a pulled his hamstring and
going on IL. A couple of very big names obviously

(03:03):
really important fantasy figures, and especially with Akunya, just you know,
you didn't start the season with him, has had had
multiple years finish early like really really distressing sign. Also
confusing that he said it was sore and they let
him play anyway. That seems like poor management. Yandy Diaz
was hit by a pitch yesterday. I haven't seen any
update on that, but he's been playing well, so I

(03:23):
wanted to mention him. Those are kind of the big
three injuries that I had written down, and then you
added a Chandler Simpson here as well.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, same thing, no real update. It sounds like it's
like a finger injury, which you know can be important
because you need to be able to hold a bat.
You know, you think of a finger as like a
minor injury, but when it comes to being able to
swing a baseball bat, that can you know, there's all
kinds of severity from like nothing Burger to you have
to miss multiple weeks, and obviously he's a cheat code
for stolen bases right now, so he matters, so I

(03:50):
added him to the list.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
So as of right now, none of these appear to
be season ending, but I want to ask specifically, something
like Churio, you hope it's just kind of a one off, right,
like Nanny Diaz hit by a pitch thatts of fluke
Akuna though, even setting aside just how good he is
when he's on the field and like how he's one
of the five best players in fantasy in a vacuum.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Are you gonna be Let's say he comes.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Back from this in three weeks and it's fine the
end of the season, he's healthy going in it next year?
Is this just gonna be kind of like another thing
to add to the list in the back of your
mind of maybe pushing him down drafts in twenty twenty six,
as like it's been multiple knee injuries, he's now like
getting these, you know, popping up with an achilles calf
type thing, like, like, is this is another reason to

(04:35):
maybe fade him going into next season.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
I think it'll depend on how much time he misses
and it's like, if he comes back in two weeks,
we might not remember this going into next season. But
if he misses more time, which he probably he certainly
could because the Braves aren't really playing any for anything
right now, although they didn't really sell at the deadline
like we you know, some expect them to, but they
also don't really have any reason to rush him back,

(04:58):
and so if he misses a month more, maybe they
just shut him down because you know, they're like, hey,
we have this incredibly valuable player, let's just keep him
healthy going into the off season. Then that all of
a sudden becomes something you really think about going into
next year. But yeah, just given like he's already going
to be someone that when you're talking about ranking or drafting,

(05:19):
like you're gonna have those major knee injuries on your mind.
But if if stuff like this pops up, you know
that has to play into it too, and so you
know it becomes the risk reward And it's not quite
the Mike Trout situation where you know it's he's going
to be buried in you know, in the in the
rankings and then in the draft in like in your
draft room, he's gonna be someone who who if you

(05:41):
want him, you're gonna to spend a first round pick on.
And so that's when it becomes really interesting when you
talk about those injuries.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Any kind of long term concerns with Churio, And by
long term I mean the rest of this season.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Obviously this isn't something that should impact him next year,
but just in terms of you when he does come back,
you're worried about him running less or you know, this
impacting him in any way. Like you never like to
hear about him string issue because those can tend to linger.
But for those managers who have him and are now
in the playoff push or you know, trying to get
over the top in rodo you know what, what's your
level of concern there?

Speaker 3 (06:10):
Yeah, that's what I was going to say. The hamstring
thing is concerning you almost you know, you don't want
to like wish a broken bone on someone, but you
almost wish it was something like that where it's like
you get over this injury and then your back. Hamstrings
are like you know, as anyone who's watched sports or
played fantasy for any amount of time, they're just the
most finicky of injuries where it's and I don't know
if you've ever had a hamstring injury. I had when

(06:30):
I had a couple when I was younger, And it's
the kind of thing where you you know, you feel
like the tightness and then you know, you rest for
a week or two and then you get back out
there and you're like, I feel pretty good until you don't.
And it's one of those things where it's hard to
know when you're back and when you can really like
go full throttle. And it's the other thing I think.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
It's not just hard, it's like impossible to do, like
like you even if you have the best medical attention
and you know that getting MRIs and the best doctors
like they basely they can't really say you are a
hundred percent cleared. This is no longer a greater chance
of reinjury than it would have been if you had
never done this, Like you just kind of have to
test it.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah, And there are the other issue there is we've
seen with someone like this is NFL related, but we've
seen with like Christian Watson is it's the kind of
injury where you start favoring it and you maybe you
start you know, it can lead to other injuries. Because
you know, you're kind of like unconsciously, subconsciously, not unconsciously
you have to be awake to or use your hamstring,
but subconsciously, you know, favoring it in a certain way

(07:31):
that like, you know, your injury or other hamstring, Like
a lot a lot of players who hurt hamstring end
up hurting the other one because of competition.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Yeah, so definitely concerning all those names this time of
you're not fun, never fun to see injuries, but you know,
kind of a difficult week in that respective, especially for
some of us who have three of these guys on
their roster. All right, let's go to our trade deadline
reaction here. Basically just wrote down a bunch of the
trades that happened, and you know, like.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
So we're going to kind of react to these.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
We'll go.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
We don't have to spend a ton of time on
all of them because some of them are not as relevant.
And there was basically no order to how I put
this down. It was just kind of as I remembered
them happening and wrote them down, and you edit them
as well.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
At the end.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Of course, the first ones I wrote down were the
Orioles ones. They were sellers as they should have been.
I fully supported it. The biggest trade they made was
Ryan O'Hearn and Ramon Loriano going to the Padres.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Good move by the Padres who are going all in.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Well, we will be getting back to them with probably
the most headlining trade of the entire deadline coming up later.
But yeah, for these Orioles ones, they got a lot
of depth back. They got I believe it was the
Padres like fourth prospect in their system. They're sixth, they're
like thirteenth, they're you know, twenty something, and then a
couple guys that are outsie of the top thirty. That's

(08:47):
according to MLB pipeline. So a lot of names coming
back for this. Clearly, those names aren't going to really
impact fantasy for seeable future. They're not like mega dynasty
statues or anything. But from the major league side of things,
O'Hearn was an All Star this year and also starter
has been very good in Baltimore. He was he was
an All Star. He was voted in by the fans
like everybody else. And Roan Loriano is having a career

(09:10):
year at the play. He's been awesome, you know, in
somewhat limited playing time, but.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Like he's been really good this year.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
I don't know what kind of playing time these guys
are gonna get in San Diego, but they have both
been good players that if they are getting an opportunity,
I think will be very valuable in this lineup.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Yeah, I think the you know, just kind of like
not like really looking at like winners and losers, but
kind of like fantasy value. I think it's probably a
downgrade for both of them, just you know, it's it's
a less favorable ballpark. And by the way, you can't
see it because of my giant microphone, but I'm wearing
my Impreller. We trust roto ware sure that I've had
for a while. I'm not a Padres fan, but you know,

(09:46):
I do appreciate a guy who goes all in, unlike
you know, the gms of some other teams in Boston.
But I think it for Oharn especially, I think he's
more likely to platoon in San Diego, even just looking
at like roster resource they have him. You know, Peg
does a left handed platoon Ramon Loreano they have Peg
does an everyday player, but I think he's he could
lose some lose some time there too. But I think

(10:09):
it seems like he's more likely to play every day
than o'hearne, and that becomes an issue in weekly leagues
when you know you have to look at like righty
lefty splits and how often this guy's going to be
in your lineup. You were kind of likely already doing
that with o'hearne. But I think, and you can correct
me if i'm wrong, I think he was platooning less later,
you know in this season, Is that right?

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Yeah, basically, once Hyde was gone, they did away not
all of it, but they did away with a lot
of the some of the more frustrating platooning situations.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
And he's probably back to that now.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Yeah, Loriano's glove is strong enough that you would think
that would keep him in the lineup more often than not.
He's just so he's such cannon for an arm He's
he's been a great fielder.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
I could see him losing some time to Gavin Sheets,
who is going to be like pretty much replaced by o'hearne,
kind of a situation.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
The other oriole on the move was Cedric Mullins to
the Mets. Mullins has not had a batting average on
the level of his great twenty twenty one season. But
he's been a consistent power speed threat really for you know,
several years in a row, and I think I think
he's coming up on like five straight seasons of at
least fifteen homers and fifteen steels, with a bit more
upside beyond that, of course, especially in the steels category.

(11:22):
Excellent defender. The metrics don't love Mullins, don't. I watch
him every day? Obviously, I do not get it, Like
he is constantly making great plays that I just blows
my mind. He doesn't get more love defensively. I like
it's one of the examples where I like, really struggle
to understand the metrics behind it, because he's an excellent
defensive center fielder in my opinion, but.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
He goes to the Mets.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Is this somebody that you would also see as a
downgrade or is this one you're more willing to call
an upgrade for him, because he's somebody that I think
is worth investing in fantasy as like a kind of
a depth outfielder piece.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Yeah, I don't know if it's an upgrade or a downgrade.
It seems kind of maybe even my initial hope was
that maybe he would move up in the lineup and
move up to like that fifth spot after Alonso, But
it doesn't seem like, at least initially that's gonna happen.
But maybe if he gets off to a hot start
he can he can move up, because he was kind
of buried in that Oriol's lineup towards the bottom. But

(12:16):
you know, I don't think it's like, you know, much
better or worse, but it should be in a better lineup.
I want to see if he has any home away splits.
Is he a guy who like crushes at Camden Yards?

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Mullins, Yeah, I don't know, I mean any I don't
know the numbers.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Believe any answer I get that would be anecdotal.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
At least this season. I don't. I'm not looking at career,
but it's just twenty twenty five. He's batting one ninety
away and batting two sixty seven at home, So one
ninety with five hor runs away and two sixty seven
with ten home runs at home.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
I was gonna say the power I feel like, is
cam the Yards like like that because it's a short portion, right,
it's the big scoreboard, so he'll hit it off there.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
But he will line balls.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Over that scoreboard a lot average. I couldn't have told you, ye,
just trying to remember anecdotally, but yeah, that's worth noting honestly.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
So, yeah, those are the Orioles moves.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
There's a bunch to get through, so we'll go I
guess a little quicker on all of them. We can't
really take ten minutes on each of these guys because
it was a busy deadline.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Has he mentioned ten minutes on Adrian Houser, I did not, Well.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
You skipped one of them here, Carlos Korea back to Houston. Obviously,
somebody who has been a star in the past, who
very rightfully wanted out of Minnesota given what the Twins
are doing right now, clearly has not been the same
guy as he was at his peak. Does this kind
of peak your interests at all?

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Korea back where he started?

Speaker 3 (13:40):
I think in deeper leagues, and I think for a
couple of reasons. One, I assume he's going to be
better going, you know, back to Houston where kind of
all you know, kind of broke out for him. And
the other thing that we've been talking about all year
is it sounds like he's gonna pay the third base,
and were any kind of like deeper league where you
need a third basement or a corner infielder, I could
have some interest. It's probably gonna have to be deeper

(14:01):
leagues for me, you know, I think a standard twelve
team roto. I don't think there's enough of enough upside there,
you know, going at least talking in terms of like
power speed, Like he's not going to steal bases. He
hasn't stolen a base since twenty nineteen, which I thought
was kind of surprising because he's not that slow, is he.
And the power we haven't really seen that in recent

(14:21):
years either, as recently as twenty twenty two, he had
twenty two home runs. Last year he missed some time.
He had fourteen home runs twenty twenty three at eighteen
home runs. This year he has seven home runs in
nine games. He was good last year with a good,
solid batting average, and he's bet in two sixty seven
with a two eighty two expected average right now. So
I could see a decent uptick in like, you know,

(14:43):
batting average and overall production going to a better team
with what should be a better lineup. But I don't
know the ceiling's high enough for me there. But he
is one of those fun stories where you can kind
of see maybe the lights come back on, you know,
go into a situation like this and maybe they bring
the garbage cans back out, which would really help.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
I think the best point is like the third base
side of it, because that's been such a tough position
this year that that is actually intriguing. I hadn't really
considered that angle, but that's that's a good point.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
By you.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Not eligible now, but he's expected to start at their place,
for that will come X amount of games for your league.
He'll be eligible at third.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Base, I think.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
I think definitely what's his roster percentage right now? Actually
shiffle that up. That's poor hosting by me, clearly, I'm
already in football math.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
That's okay. Luckily we work for Fantasy Pros. Go to
fantasypros dot com, click on his name. Yahoo twenty seven percent,
ESPN thirty six percent. So he's pretty widely available.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
I guess that's roughly what I Maybe a little lower
than I expected is given the name, but it's roughly
what I expected.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Yeah, I would, I would pick him up if you
have the room. I wouldn't.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
I wouldn't drop anybody, you know important, But if you
have kind of an open spot or you know, a
depth piece that you've just been kind of waiting to
drop when the right opportunity came up, I would give
that a try. Just on the on the chances of
bounce back you mentioned Adrian Houser. He and Griffin Jacks
are both going to the Rays. Not in the same deal,
but just two names that are going to Tampa. Howser

(16:07):
has been like surprisingly really good. I mean, some of
the underlying stuff suggesting maybe there's a there's a drop
off headed our way, but like, I don't think anybody
would have expected the production that we've seen so.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Far from Howser this season.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
And obviously Griffin Jack's a quality, you know stuff type
of arm as well.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
So what do you think about both these moves to
the Rays.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
I want to look up Howser for a second. I
feel like his velocity's been up this year, which could
explain part of the reason, but I also like it
just kind of feels like the Ray's buying low. I mean,
I guess not buying low because he is having a
good year, but like buying someone for relatively cheap, but
the Rays did that thing where they kind of tried
to buy and sell at the same time and see
where things fall. Gryffin Jacks was kind of an interesting one,

(16:50):
especially given like the prices that relievers were going for.
And we can get to the biggest one soon. But
I don't think Griffin Jacks is going to push Fairbanks
for that closer role, at least not initially, but someone
to potentially, you know, we not someone you should waste
the roster spot on right now in the standard like
roto leagues, but in a deeper format, I might pick

(17:10):
up Griffin Jacks just to see, you know, if he
gets some closing opportunities for them. Velocity. Yeah, his sinker,
I guess, which is he leads with his sinker, but
his sinker is up almost two full miles an hour
and same for his fastball, like a mile and a half.
So he is throwing throwing harder this year. But he
has like a sinker first guy, which is, you know,

(17:31):
one of those kinds of interesting quirk.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Do you want to He's about rostered as much as
Carlos Kray is, so he is available at a lot
of leagues. Do you want to pick up Houser. I mean,
like there's just so much it just screams regression. Like
his stranding runner is his left on base rate is
eighty one point seven percent, which is very high, and

(17:56):
his home run to five ball rate is just four
point six percent, which is very very low.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Like it's going to go up in Tampa. I can
tell you that.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Yeah, Like this just feels like it's the I mean,
the era obviously is great, the strikeouts are not. They've
never been there for Hawser, but they are continuing to
not be there this year. You know, his expected stuff
is all like his ex FIP is over two runs
higher than his actual ERA which is two ten. Like

(18:23):
this is just somebody that I know. It's kind of
like the drop off hasn't come yet, but I just
have had. I've been staring at him in leagues all season,
Like I just don't think this is real and sustainable,
so I just keep not picking him up. Do you
have any Like the Rays are really smart with pitchers,
but also the ballpark is a difficult factor at this point,
So are you interested in picking him up?

Speaker 3 (18:43):
I feel like I would have been more interested in
him like a year ago talking about the Rays and
their success with pitchers. I feel like some of that
success is kind of fluctuated. And then also, yeah, the
ballpark situation is not great for you know, Yankee. We
already we all talk about Yankee Stadium. It's the same
dimensions as Yankee Stadium and in Florida where the ball
is going to fly even further. So I don't think

(19:04):
it's gonna get any better as that, you know. You know,
now that we're into August, it's not any cooler down
there in Florida.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Yeah, Dustin May, your boy to the Red Sox, your boys?

Speaker 2 (19:14):
What do you think about this one?

Speaker 3 (19:16):
I like Dustin May. I hate the trade.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
You hate the trade, but you like Dustin May.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
I like the trade. But it's two months of Dustin May.
He's not under contract pass this year, which you know,
I saw a lot of jokes on on social media
where people were saying, no, maybe Craig Brezlo at the
Red Sox. It's just like the rest of us. And
they just assumed that Dustin May had another year of
team control. But shocker, he doesn't. And they traded the
prospect they got in the Devers deal for him, which

(19:43):
like makes no sense, and I know, like the Dever's
deal was really just a salary dump and like getting
him out of the clubhouse. But I mean, you got
a good decent prospect for him. He wasn't doing well
this year, but to flip him for two months of
Dustin May is wild, especially when they were like rumors
at the end of the deadline at the Red Sox
were in on Joe Ryan and and they were close.
And then there was even like one I don't know
if he saw this was on social there was like

(20:03):
one I think it was John Morossi put out like
a tweet saying that the Red Sox are making a
late push for Joe Ryan, and Fox Sports MLB just
went with the Red Sox are acquiring Joe Ryan, and
then I think Yahoo also copied them and said the
Red Sox are acquiring Joe Ryan with like the graphic
posts and not true, and so they had to pull

(20:26):
those back. But it was a while thirty seconds, so
worked thought Joe Ryan's going to the Red Sox, but
he did not. We got justin May.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
You feel you know, do you feel like May will
have more of an opportunity, like maybe a longer leash
in Boston. I feel like I was often worried about him,
just like not getting enough starts and not getting enough
innings in his starts with Los Angeles. Do you think
he'll get more of an opportunity in Boston? Do you
think he will earn more of an opportunity in Boston.
He has to pitch well for it.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
To met get more of an opportunity, just because you know,
at least a short term opportunity. The doughter is pretty
much Aready said he was moving to the bullpen, and
even you know, they have a ton of injury, but
with the pictures they have coming back, you know he
was gonna be the odd man out there. That's why
it's even more weird weirder wilder that the Red Sox
gave up like a pretty like one of the top
five prospect on their system for him for two months.

(21:13):
But I mean, I do like Dustin May, and I think,
you know, I'm intrigued to see what the Red Sox
can do with him. The Red Sox pitching program has
had mixed results. You know, last year was really exciting
because like Tanner Hawk was breaking out and Cutter Crawford
was looking really good and now some of those, you know,
maybe we're just smoking mirrors. Like Tanner Hawk fell apart.
Nick Pavetta left the Red Sox and is having his
best year ever. Brian Bayle looks really good, Lucas Giolito looks,

(21:38):
you know, resurgent Walker, Bueller not so much. Garrett Corchet
obviously is really good, but it's probably on his own.
Not much, not really anything the Red Sox are doing
with him. But maybe, you know, just that Red Sox
pitching program, maybe they can unlock something. Because I do
like dust to May. He has some very interesting stuff.
I like him as a pitcher, but weird trade, weird value.

(21:58):
He will be a starter, so you can take a
flyer on him.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
I don't even we don't need to look up what
his roster percentage is. But yeah, you have him in
our Fan Trax league, right, yep.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
I haven't read a couple of leagues. Yeah, I have
the opportunity to keep it for one dollar in one league,
but DVD if I.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Will au Heno Suarez to the Mariner's fun story. They
were like holding up the plane for him and he
kind of got on at the last second. You know,
he was given everybody hugs and everything obviously has been
on a real heater at least, you know, earlier in
the summer.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
I believe it was.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
I might be misremembering the stat now because I didn't
write it down, but I think I saw a stat
that this is the most home runs a player has had,
like at the point of being traded in season before,
or at least in a long time. I can't remember
this petic stat, but it's something along those lines. So
obviously having a great year, Mariners have needed hitting for
as long as we can remember.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
He's been there before. What do you think about this fit?

Speaker 3 (22:58):
I think, you know, he's going back to where he
had some previous success. So a lot of times with
the Mariners in that ballpark you worry about, you know,
can they perform. It's it's a place where hitters tend
to have trouble seeing the ball for whatever reason, or
just have you know, worse home performances there. He already
did it for two seasons, so we've already seen him
do it there, so there's less of that concern. And

(23:19):
as long as the power keeps up, they don't really
have to worry about his batting average because that's not
really what he wanted, wanted him forward to begin with.
It has been better to last couple of seasons. You know,
he's a guy who's hovered around two hundred in his career.
Over the last you know, a couple of seasons, he's
been around two fifty, which is fantastic. If you can
get that those power numbers with an average, it isn't
going to kill you. So hopefully you see more of

(23:40):
that and not, you know, more of those averages around
like two ten.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Rest of the season, you would say he's third base.
What for you in your rankings?

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Let's see, I had my rankings up right here. I'd
probably have to move him up because he was out
of the top ten, but he probably needs to be
close to the top ten, like he's over these guys.
Would you put him over Jordan Westbrook.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
Yes, yeah, yeah, even in Seattle High with yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
And then Matt Chapman, I assume you would put him over.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
What about Jazz.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
It feels like a good back to back and.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
In front of Jazz Camaro, Austin Riley, I might have
to drop down he's not having a good year.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
Yeah, I think you could justify dropping Riley. But like
like Suarez is clearly like I'd rather have camin arow
than him, so like it feels like that jazz spot
is a good shelf of you know, above or below,
but not any further then I.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Have him right around nine, right now nine, Okay.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
A couple of relievers on the move to the Yankees,
Camillo d'vall and David Bednar.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Obviously, Devin Williams is still there.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
He did blow a savory you know, the other day,
but he has been pitching much better than he was
in April and early May. The Yankees have said he
is still the closer because he has had some issues
this season. It's fair to wonder if that will last
if those issues kind of crop back up.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
Do you do you kind of just want to stay
away from this bullpen?

Speaker 1 (25:09):
I mean, I think if you have Devin Williams, you're
still starting him until they announced that he's no longer
in that spot. But it feels like there's not really
much actionable with Deval and Bednar. There might be something
actionable on the other side of those bullpens that they
are now vacating and kind of leaving those, particularly in
San Francisco. Is that is are you kind of seeing

(25:29):
things the same way I am in that regard where
there's not much on the Yankee side, but maybe take
advantage on the other sides.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
Yeah, I think so it seems like Devin Williams is
the guy for now, but at that leash just got
real short. He's already lost the job at periods this year.
And I was listening to the CBS guys this morning
and they brought up something I didn't realize. They actually
mentioned that Devin Williams is not under contract next year,
which I did not know. I just assumed they had
another year of control there for Devin Williams. But you know,
if he starts performing poorly again, like they have no

(25:57):
reason to hold on. And you know, it's not like
they're worried about like hurt Field going into next year,
like if he kind of implodes again, like they can
just you know, move to bed Ardbaal. And you know,
there's a reason they acquired those guys. Obviously they needed
more bullpen help, but they it's you know, fitting that
they went out and specifically acquired guys with closing experience,

(26:17):
and so, yeah, interesting situation over there, But yeah, I
don't think it's someone I'm targeting. I think you said
it right. If you have Davin Williams, you just keep
running out there until the wheels fall off. But then
on the other side there's more vacated saves on where
those pitchers are coming from.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
Yeah, I will say I already and I think we're
going to talk about this guy in part two, so
you know, keep an eye out for that I already
in our league that I mentioned earlier than I'm trying
to contend and picked up Randy Roder you Guez for
the Giants because he's been awesome this sear He actually
had a bad outing his last time out, but by
a Larchie has been pretty awesome this season. Sixty two

(26:53):
strikeouts in forty five innings, one twenty era zero point
eighty four whip you know, sixty two strikes comparted just
nine walks this year. So he's somebody that I was
already like really kind of interested in, and now that
Dove All has, you know, kind of vacated this opportunity
for saves. He's somebody that I would be trying to
get pretty aggressively, truthfully.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
All right.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Next up, Meryl Kelly to the Rangers, any thoughts on this.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
One solid pitcher having a solid year. I don't know
that it does a whole ton to his value. I guess,
you know, getting out of Arizona where they're not having
a great year, but like the Rangers aren't really sitting
the world on fire either, But uh, you know, I
think he's a perfectly cromulent pitcher who will continue to
be so.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
All right. How about Mike Ustremsky to the Royals.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
I don't know that I have a ton of interest
in Mike Scremsky. Whatever I was going to say is there.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
I just wrote down because I saw it. I was like,
you know, is it even worth talking about? I don't know.
Does that is that your stance too?

Speaker 3 (27:51):
Yeah? Yeah, pretty much. I was already looking ahead to
the to the bigger one on the horizon. I do
want to mention before we get to I think we
should close with the big one. I don't want to
like take.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
Yeah, yeah for you, but no, no, no, I I
was actually just about to say the same thing I
was about say, I'm gonna move down the big one.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
I think this next one is interesting. Jose Cabaliro to
the Yankees, just because he was a really solid source
of stolen basis for you in certain leagues if you
were starting him, and it sounds like he might not
have an everyday roll with the Yankees, so that could
just be value plummeting.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
Yeah, yeah, that's a good point.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
I mean, would you would you like drop him in
anticipation of that, or if you had him even think it's.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
Too early to drop him. I think you have to
see how this week plays out, and if he's you know,
you know, if he's if he's sitting every other day,
then you know, there's not what you can do.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
I mean, by the way, he's not very rostered. He's
sixteen percent of Yahoo, So if you have.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
Him it's the steeper leagues then yeah. Yeah, but he's
got a lot of stolen bases. That's actually kind of
love expected.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
He does have a lot of stolen bases. Harrison Bader
to Philly.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
It sounds like he should play almost every day. He
seems like he's going to take Max Kepler's spot. My
worry that is that he's gonna play like almost every day,
and so you know, if the Phillies have seven games
in a week, maybe he starts five with them, which
you know, you already like have a pretty low ceiling

(29:14):
with Harrison Bader, and now if I'm losing a couple
of starts a week, then you know it makes me
less interested. But that's an upgrade for him, and he
should get plenty of playing time therester on CBS. I'm
sorry to interrupt you, but it's.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Still under fifty percent. But no, it's it's worth noting.
Uh Joan Duran to Philly? Is it Duran or Duran?

Speaker 2 (29:36):
I never I'm so bad at pronunciations.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
I always said thought it was Duran.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
I was looking at Baseball Reference earlier it to do
it looks like it's Duran. No way, according to Baseball Reference.
I haven't done any more research on the fact, so
as I always say, this is what I get for
mostly reading baseball instead of listening. But anyways, a good
closer on the Twins going to Philly probably the second
best closer over to this will definitely the second best,

(30:01):
right unless I'm forgetting somebody?

Speaker 2 (30:04):
Is he somebody?

Speaker 1 (30:05):
I mean, obviously it's not much actionable here because he
is already gonna be rostered everywhere where closers are relevant.
But do you see this as a step up in Philly,
just because there'll be more wins opportunities.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
Absolutely, Yeah, I mean, I I.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Yeah, I mean, I mean I should have even asked
the question, like obviously it's a step up.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
I don't know why I even asked.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
Yeah, and I don't have to see where I'm gonna
move in my closer rankings, like top five.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
I guess, yeah, this is a good way. Is he
under contract after this? No he's not.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
No, he is.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
That's why I think that's see.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
I thought that was like part of the deal.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
Oh, he's arbitration eligible. I'm sorry I was.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
I was looking at the contract status which he says
there's only signed for this year, but it's it's because
it's still an arbitration. So yeah, yeah, this is a
somebody that I'll be excited about the rest of this
year and next year.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
Yeah, two more years of control.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
Yep, yep.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
Free agent twenty twenty A seeing that too, all right?
Blue Jays Shane Bieber, ty France and any I mean
Bieber obviously somebody who's just not been healthy recently. Ty
Franz is the guy that you've recommended on the show before.

Speaker 2 (31:04):
I think, yeah, I love like that.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
France, Kelly always teases me about my love for Ty France.
Whenever like something ty France happens, I always like send
Kelly a screenshot of it, just and she's like, will
you stop. I wonder. I don't think he's gonna play
every day though, so not probably a lot actionable there,
at least on the Ty France side. Shane Bieber is
really interesting, like he's he's on the verge of returning
from Tommy John surgery and looks pretty decent. And yeah,

(31:28):
Roster Resource doesn't even have they have him as a
Writy platoon, so he's probably gonna platoon with like I
don't even know someone who.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
Wasn't I forget who it was, but I saw somebody
joked that the Blue Jays made this trade. So they
can just sell a bunch of like Blue Jay's jerseys
that say Bieber on the back, because justin Bieber's Canadian
and will we'll get a lot of sales from that.

Speaker 3 (31:48):
So maybe they'll sell a bunch of France jerseys too,
French Canadians.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
Oh that's a good point.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
Actually, both France and Bieber kind of appled that's a
great point, all right. And then Willie Cash Joe the
last one we have written down here before the big one,
which you will get to.

Speaker 3 (32:03):
Uh, yeah, that you would think it's an upgrade for him,
but like, is he gonna play every day going to
Where did he go to the Cubs?

Speaker 2 (32:09):
In my blanking the Cubs, right, did you go to
the Cubs?

Speaker 3 (32:13):
Yeah? With the Cubs where it kind of seems like
he doesn't really have an everyday job. He's more of
a utility guy unless something either like someone gets hurt
or like Matt Shaw, you know, continues to struggle and
kind of loses his job. But he seems like he
was someone more valuable in deeper leagues and now maybe
not so.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
All right, let's do the big one. Mason Miller to
the Padres. And there was multiple pieces in this deal,
but the big headliners were Mason Miller going to San
Diego and one of the top prospects in baseball, Leo
de Vries debrees.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
All right, forg we just had this conversation like a
week ago.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
Devrees, I believe, debrees, Leo Devrees going to the Athletics,
which is really remarkable. This is the highest ranked prospect
traded at the deadline, I believe since Eloy Jimenez in
twenty seventeen. This is somebody who was like, has a
chance of being the number one prospect in baseball going
in the next season once these kind of official graduations

(33:17):
from prospect lists happened with guys like Roman Anthony and
Chase Burns and everything. This year, like he is already
inside the top five at a lot of places, at
the very least top ten everywhere. I think he's I
think he might be third on MLB pipeline and like
again or I think he's behind Connor Griffin. Now, at
any rate, he will be in the conversation for number
one prospect in baseball going in the next season. Eighteen
years and then moved him for a closer, which is

(33:40):
now Mason Miller has there's been talking about him starting
in the past. Maybe that's part of the plan for
the Padres. I don't know if you've seen anything to
that effect. He's also under contract for a while, so
like just having a really excellent, elite closer with this
kind of stuff. He was kind of having a down
year this year, but this kind of you know, great
stuff level closer for a while. I mean, the Padres
are very willing go all in right like this, this

(34:01):
is what the Padres do, but really wild. I did
not expect to see Devrezes moved like just no, flat out,
very very shocking.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
Yeah, especially because you know, as a Red Sox fan,
I was following the projects pretty closely because they were
very aggressive and trying to get Daron Durant from the
Red Sox and they even offered their other top prospect,
Ethan Sallas in in trying to get Duran and the
Red Sex just kept saying no. And I was like,
I would keep saying no unless we're talking to Breeze,
but I assume he's not on the table. And then
all of a sudden they traded in for a closer.

(34:32):
I think I have not seen anything about him potentially starting,
but I do think the only way you make this trade,
this long tram outlook trade, is if maybe down the line,
you see Mason Miller as an a starter for you,
which I mean it has to be. You can't trade
the one of the top prospects in baseball for a closer,

(34:54):
like I don't. I just don't get it. It's wild.
But you know, as they say, flags fly forever and
and no prospect is a sure thing. He's a very
young prospect, he's eighteen years old. He's in hy A
right now. He looks very good, but also like no
prospect is a sure thing, and so you know, it's
like the mystery box thing, you know. Uh, it's like

(35:15):
Leo DeVries is awesome, but uh, you know, he could
be Mason Miller or Mason Miller has already Mason Miller.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
And so where do you have Mason Miller amongst closers
the rest of the season.

Speaker 3 (35:26):
Let's see, I have I have him ranked pretty aggressively.
I think I had him number one, which is not
true anymore. But uh, he's top five for sure. Number
one might be uh do Ran now? Which I looked
up and apparently you are saying that correctly, Do Run?

Speaker 2 (35:42):
Okay, I finally go on, do Ron?

Speaker 1 (35:46):
What about what about debris? From the Dynasty perspective? We
obviously talked to George Bissel last week about some Dynasty updates.
Do you, when thinking about prospects that you are, you know,
trying to hold on to in Dynasty sash a guy
this far away, do you care all that much when
they move or is it still just like the talent

(36:07):
is the talent? And you'll evaluate the major league situation
when he gets there, because, like the AA is like,
do you have some hitters now? This ballpark is not
going to be permanent for them, So I don't really
know what Like the Vegas ballpark is going to look like,
there's some more uncertainty than there was in San Diego.
But right now it's a better ballpark than his home
park would have been with the Padres.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
But again, he's probably two years away. So so does this.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Move the needle for you in terms of how interested
you would be in a dynasty format for degrees? Or
is it like you just don't care what he's this
far away?

Speaker 3 (36:38):
I don't. I feel like I don't care as much. Obviously,
you want him to go to a place that has
the track record of you know, producing and you know,
like promoting these these prospects. But the A's have you know,
like you said, they have a bunch of young hitters
coming through now, and so maybe they're doing a better
job of it. They've done it, you know better in
the past, and I feel a lot better now that
they're out of the oak and Cosseum. I WO wouldn't
feel great if he was walking into that as a

(37:00):
twenty year old. But like you said, they're in a
very good offensive ballpark right now, and potentially a good
ballpark in Vegas. P'all be you don't know what that
papark is gonna look like.

Speaker 1 (37:10):
Yeah, we'll have to wait and see on that. All right,
we'll go ahead and wrap up round in the bases there.
That was part one of the cycle this week. Be
sure to keep an eye out for part two, whether
you're on YouTube or on audio, where we talk about
some waivers pickups, and some pitching streamers and our two
