Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hello everybody, Welcome back into another episode of the cycle.
I am your host, Mike Mayer. I am joined once
again by Kelly Kirby, and we have a lot to
get to today. We're going to move very quickly, and
I have a lot of pictures that I want us
to talk about, so we'll hit those right at the top.
And Kelly, I told you before the show that last
week we went t ball style where we did first base,

(00:28):
third base, second base, home base or homebase second base.
You know, we did basically a star. This week for
rounding the bases, we're going to go cricket style. We're
doing two bases. I believe, unless my Google searches have
failed me and my Cricket highlights have failed me, that
cricket only has two bases, so we're only doing two today.

(00:48):
So first off, how are you doing? And secondly, how
do you feel about playing cricket today?

Speaker 2 (00:55):
I'm doing pretty well. I'm really hoping that I have
all the right microphone set up this week so that
they don't have to try to put my stuff together
and give me like an accidental lisp. But we'll see.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
The YouTube commenters will let you know for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
I truly will and yeah, I'm kind of excited about cricket.
You know that's a good like three am insomnia watch
on one of the ESPNS. So let's do it.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Have you ever bet on cricket?

Speaker 2 (01:19):
I have never bet on cricket.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
I've never bet on cricket. I have bet on Korean baseball,
and I've recently started betting on E sports, which is
you know, not problematic at all, but that's a different.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
There are no phone numbers for you for that.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Before we jump in, I do have a basically random
topic I want to get to.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
The other day, I was listening to just a random
playlist in my car and Eminem's Till I Collapse came on,
and I was thinking that this. I always think about
weird things with songs, and one of them is always
like what would be a really cool entrance song for
a closer? And that one felt like a really cool one,
and I posted on social media. It's got like the
perfect vibe, the perfect entrance. It has like a slow

(02:02):
beat like don't dun't, and then you know, like you
walk out when he starts talking, you start jogging when
he starts rapping, and the whole like the whole vibe
of it just screamed closer to me. So I would
ask you and maybe we'll I'll toss it to you
and then we'll come back to it. But what would
your entrance song be if you were a Major league
baseball closer? Do you want to answer now? Or circle back?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
No, let's circle back?

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Okay, Bob Kid Rocks Bob with the Bot is available,
just you.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Know, definitely my top five fun fact.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
My wife and I walked out to that song to
our wedding reception. Kid Rocks Bob the which I thought
was hilarious. Anyway, Getting to pictures because I want to
get to a lot of them. First base. I don't
know if they have a first base in cricket, but
whatever they call first base and cricket is what we're doing.
I just wrote for this category of pictures injuries, return, struggles,

(02:55):
all the things, and I'm going to hit a couple
of different topics here and talk to you. And the
first one, the first one's mini segment I have here
is called super Soaker to your Head because we don't
want to do violence on the show, but super Soaker
to your Head rest of season. Dustin may Or Sandy
l Contra, And I will say since the trade from

(03:16):
the Dodgers to the Red Sox, Dustin May has been
different and Sandy El Contra has been all over the
place all season, but has kind of been better recently.
But I'll talk it to you, super sooker, to your head,
which one do you want rest of season? And why?

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Oh god, that is a tough, tough question.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
It's a big super soaker like lots of lots of fire.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah, my first reaction would be Sandy, just because I
think his last you know, like you said, his last
couple of starts, he seems to have settled in and
they were you know, one of those was against Boston, which,
contrary to some of your some of your Twitter posts,
has at least something resembling in an offense, and the
other one was Saint Louis. So we're just ignoring the
two before that where he gave up five and six

(04:02):
e and runs. But yeah, I like him just a
little bit more. I feel like I feel like May. Yeah, No,
I'm gonna go with El Contra. I'll just settle on it.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah. The interesting thing about May is and I don't
want to spend a lot of time on it because
we can do a whole show on the Red Sox pitching.
But like since their new GM has come in and
Andrew Bailey's coming as their pitching coach, they've kind of
they've done a whole lot of different things with the
pitching staff and they're kind of, you know, whether whether
they're not whether or not they're a pitching factory, is
you know, another question, because they've had a lot of

(04:36):
good results and then a lot of things blow up
in their face. But they are seem to be. They
do seem to be the kind of organization that is
now willing to like tinker and they like to do
Like last beginning of last season, we saw like no
one was wrung fastballs in Boston. It was all just
Offsbrey pitches. And for du Justin May, they have him
throwing a change up now and really emphasizing his cutter,
and at least over his last two starts it's gone well,

(04:58):
and it could. I'm seeing things that I want to
see because I have always really liked Dustin May, and
I'm like, there it is, this is what I've been
waiting for. But I do want to bring him up
and get more of an impartial thought, and I thought
juxtaposing him with Sandy al Contra was interesting because they're,
you know, two violatal pictures for kind of different reasons.

(05:19):
But I guess you're going Sandy. I would lean Dustin
May just because I think there's like a mystery box
factor there that, like, if this is real, like you
could get some real value down the stretch where it's
like Sandy. I've been kind of waiting for him to
turn back into Sandy all season, and I'm getting tired
of waiting. Let's do another one, and this one is

(05:40):
an even bigger super soaker. This might be filled with
like poison set of water Spencer Strider or Code I
Sanga and it could you could just you know, choose
the soaker at this.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Point, I'm like, I'm like, I think the soaker is
the option. I would lean right now. I mean, I
don't really believe a lot of anything that Strider's doing.
He makes me really nervous. Like again, when all those

(06:15):
numbers are down the way they are, I'm kind of
like that was his kind of bread and butter, right,
Like being able to just strike out the world was
what we counted on. And now there's just kind of
this middle like he's not getting there, so I'm gonna
lean Sea. But I very much am fine with the
poker on this one.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yeah, I was. I was kind of thinking that maybe
the other way to think about this one is if
you roster both of them, which one are you more
afraid to drop? Like you could potentially just be leaning
to drop both of them, but which one are you
more worried that someone else in your ly can pick up?
And he's like back to being himself, And I think
for me, they're worried. I'm more worried about Spencer Strider

(06:54):
like getting back, because I think there's a lot going
around with code. I Sinka right now, and I'm worried
about him, but very worried about both of them.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Yeah, I mean, if you put it like that, then
the A Strider is the one. But like again, we're
working off old information in a redift league, I'm not
going to worry about it at this point at the
end of August. So if it's a keeper league, then yeah,
then you got to start to I have him as
a keeper and I'm not going to in one lead
that I've already had to declare them. And so I'm like,

(07:24):
you know, kind of.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
You've already had keepers for next season.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
It's our it's our four sport league, so you have
to do that in early July. You have to if
you want to keep them. And I just decided to
keep Striker because I was a little short on pitching.
But yeah, I might still be a short on pitcher.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
I drafted him at what I thought was a discount
and our salary cap league and probably and not keeping
him at that suppose a discount because it doesn't look
like a discount anymore. All right, how about this one?
And I told you before the show, you know there
is another name for this game that we can't use
on the show because it is uh, you know, we'll
get a warning label on YouTube. But start slash start.

(08:02):
It's also very hard to say, so I should have
picked a different name. And I debuted this game last
year and I knew it was hard to say. I've
just chosen not to change it and torture myself. Start
stash or slash, which is essentially marry the middle word
and the final word MFK if you're for short, and
then the three pitchers for that Shane Bieber, Bryce Miller,

(08:24):
Kyle Bradish all returning from injury imminently.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Yep. Yeah, And I told you as well, if we
had the other name, that would be really weird advice
for us to give. So I'm gonna start Bieber against
my very I'm going to start him just because the
team's on. I'm gonna stash Bright Bradish and I'm gonna
cut Bryce Miller. I've not liked anything I've seen Miller
and Laught a little bit.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
I think I'm in the same boat. I'm definitely leaning
towards cutting Miller because I just I don't think he's better,
like injury wise, like, I think he's just still hurt
and there's a very real chance he comes back and
just leaves right away again, because I think, you know,
I think there's a bigger issue there. Shane Bieber I

(09:11):
think has the highest ceiling and has looked really good
on his rehab. That is again, I am someone who
used to really like Shane Bieber. It feels like a
really long time since we've seen him, so I could
just be convincing myself that he's the best one. Kyle
bradish did look very good, very briefly the last time
we saw him, but I am the most confident in
Bieber and the least confident in Bryce Miller. So I

(09:33):
think by default that makes Kyle Bradish the stash for me.
So start Bieber, stash Bradish, slash Bryce Miller, not to
not to encourage violence, but you know, slash as in
cut from your team, slash him from your roster.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Yeah, I mean, I think it's to me. I guess
it's a little bit clearer as well, like if he's
going to get time in Toronto, he kind of I
think he has the most upside in all the categories
and get you know, some run support, et cetera. But yeah,
I know, like I agree with you. I don't think
Miller's ready to come back. I think they rushed in.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
So all right, in the final this feels like a
million segments has actually just been one really long segment,
or not not really long, but like a ton of
pictures in one segment with little mini games in between.
So this little mini segment was so popular last week,
and then to bring it back and do it again
this week? What's the deal with this with these guys?
And I chose two struggling veteran pictures that I didn't

(10:30):
want to make you I didn't want to whip out
the super soaker again for these two, but I did
want to kind of get your opinion on Franber Valdez
and Luis Castillo, who have both really struggled in definitely
in August and also in the second half. Valdez seven
point seven point three three ERA in August with a

(10:50):
three forty one average against and a five point two
ERA in thirty six second half innings, so not a
huge sample size, but not a nothing sample size either,
Like thirty six innings is you know, at least a
handful of starts. Luis Castillo similar six point zero five
URI in August, also with a three point three four
to one average against. I actually, when I read that
number had to make sure I didn't like, just keep

(11:12):
the same page up that I was actually on Luis
Castillo's page and not still on Vramber Valdez's page, because
I was like, what are the chances that these guys
have the same exact average against in August? And he
has a slightly better but still, you know, not up
to his standards. Four point zero three ERA and thirty
eight second admittings. So Valdez has definitely been struggling more.

(11:33):
I actually avoided, you know, not to turn this into
a betting show, but I was, you know, looking at
for the Daily Juice, looking at Matt Pearl's picks and
trying to go through the pick of the day, and
one of the picks he had was the over in
that game. And I always try to avoid overs in
games where I had what looks like to be like
a top fifteen pitcher, because if he pitches a gem,

(11:54):
you're you're relying on one team to hit that over
by themselves. So I don't like to bet those games.
And he got lit up immediately, so be that I
shouldn't have avoided that game. So what's the deal with
Ramber Valdez and Luis Castio.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Yeah, I mean I think with Luis Castillo, I avoid him.
I feel like I avoid him parentally in drafts, Like
I it's like he can just blow up in at
times when you really don't want him to, and I
know all pictures can, but I feel like for him,
he does it in like kind of very dramatic fashion.
And yeah, I mean he's he's had some decent starts,

(12:29):
Like I'm looking at his game log, you know, against
Tampa Bay, against the Athletics, against Houston, Like, he wasn't
given up very many runs, he was striking people out.
So yeah, compared to Valdez's game, lug, I am, I don't.
I don't know what their deal is. So I feel
like there's something wrong with Valdez like that he's been

(12:50):
He's been pretty uncharacteristic across the board on what he
is allowing, whereas with Castio, to me, this is just
who he is, Like.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
It's a little worse.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Yeah, I just see him as a more vulnerable pitcher.
So if I'm like, you know, so what's the deal,
I don't know there, but which one would I rather have?
I'm gonna lean Castillo until Valdos settles down or you know,
we figure out what's wrong with him. And it's Houston,
so you know, I am leary of what might be
wrong with him that we don't know.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Yeah, he could be missing fingers exactly. Yeah, I think
that's the Valdez one is more concerning, just because not
just because it's worse, it's just been more consistently worse recently,
but it also there could be like he could be
tipping pitches and it could just be the kind of
thing that like we saw with Hazus Alzardo earlier this season,

(13:41):
where he just flips the sweat at his back. I
did see that it's curveball usages down. I don't know
if he just like doesn't have a feel for that
pitch and that is you know, impacting things, but it
certainly seems like he's dealing with something and something whatever
is is bad. Yeah, I'm torn on that one because

(14:04):
I have more faith in Valdez to kind of flip
the switch and get right back. But I do agree
that Castillo this is just kind of the Lewis Castillo experience.
It feels like, at least once or twice a year
he goes through a stretch like this and then he
you know, kind of turns it back around. So yeah,
I tend to agree. Yeah, but I'm a little bit
worried about both.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Yes, Yeah, I'm worried about both. And if and if
you drafted either as your like staff anchored, that's the
that's the problem going down the stretch.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
Yeah, I did not have that problem in any of
my leagues, but I do have many other problems in
some of those things. Yeah, all right, moving on to
the second base whatever they call second base in cricket.
That's what we're doing. And this is a little bit
more of a positive segment because it feels like we've
had just a ton it almost cursed there, a ton

(14:54):
of I almost put a word in front of in
front of ton if you can use your imagination. We
we've had a ton of really interesting young pictures debut
and they've all kind of like on the complete opposite
of what we see with a lot of the young
hitters over the last couple years, where they kind of
come up and struggle. A lot of the young pictures
are coming up and looking very good right away. Some

(15:15):
of them we've seen the kind of come up, look good,
then the league adjusts and then we have to see
what you know V. Three of that picture is. But
I'll just run through a bunch of these, you know,
younger pictures who've debuted either like the past week or
you know, recently enough that they're worth talking about in
grouping together. Nolan McLean, Nolan McLean, I believe McLean or McLean.

(15:37):
I'll come back to that. Hustin Waldrip, Parker, Messik, Cam Schlittler,
that's the one you have to be very careful about
saying and Bubba Chandler and Jacob Miszierowski. Now I'll hit
the last two first because there are two of the
more disappointing ones, not because of talent, but because of
their current situation. Jacob Mizierowski has been up for a while,

(15:59):
he has looked fantastic, and he recently came off the
eel and there are innings limits concerns here and he
hasn't thrown five, you know, five innings since returning from
the IL, and it kind of seems like he's going
to have a pretty short leash and like, you know,
a pretty tight pitch count for most of his starts

(16:20):
for the rest of the season, which really limits his
upside in a lot of leagues. And we could even
see him in the bullpen at some point. It's kind
of like, which is probably what, you know, if they're
just gonna limit him, they probably just should move him
to the bullpen and kind of use him that way,
which we finally got Bubba Chandler called up and he
was immediately put in the bullpen. And it sounds like
he's going to be more of a piggyback where he's

(16:41):
gonna have an opener, and then he's probably gonna be,
you know, have that bulk reliever role that I was
just talking about maybe Misserowski should do. But we've been
waiting for this call up all season and we finally
got it, and it could not be more disappointing, especially
because he was really good earlier in the year and
like he hasn't been that good over the last couple
of months, so it's kind of an odd time to
call him up. So those are the two of the

(17:04):
bigger names on this list, but also two of the
more disappointing ones. Hurston Waldrip has been like really good,
I wrote in the sheet zero point seven three arra
zero point seven to seven whip in twenty four and
two thirds innings. Where did that come from? Parker Masseik
just debuted the other day six and two thirds innings,
seven hits, one walk, six strikeouts in his debut, and

(17:27):
he was not spectacular but solid in Triple A this season.
And then Cam Schlitzler's been up for a while for
the Yankees. Two point zero a era in August, two
point nine zero era in the second half and just
schemes like he might be kind of putting things together,
just coming off a really good start against the Red Sox,
and then I wish I actually knew how to say
his name, Nolan McLain. Let's look it up. While I

(17:49):
look that up. Any thoughts about all of these names
I just mentioned, there were a lot of them.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Yeah, I mean one of the with the Bubba Chandler.
Obviously that's just like exceedingly disappointing. I was actually concerned
about our colleague Welsh when that happened. And you know,
sometimes I don't mind the bulk reliever if they bring
him in the second inning, because then you kind of
get that win equity possibility, but not on the Pirates,
you know, I can get that on the Pirates at all.
Whereas if they were to use Missy Rescue that way,

(18:18):
then you do have a little bit more of a chance.
And so it's like if they if they keep having
him start and then leave in the third or fourth inning, like, yeah, no,
that's not gonna help much at all. Waldrip is such
an interesting name for me because I had him in
one of my keeper leagues where you can draft the
minor players and they don't cost you anything until they
make it to the majors, but he had been terrible

(18:41):
when he'd come up, and so finally this year I
was I cut bad on him. I was like, I
had him for zero dollars and I was like, I
don't know, he seems like a zero dollar picture. And
I had a couple other young guys that I wanted
to fill those slots with, and I'm like, of course, sure,
this is this is obviously how this is gonna. So
I do like him. I've always liked him obviously, just

(19:04):
not enough to hang on to him this year.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
So yeah, he's been kind of surprising, but he's also
been like been pretty good or like really good, I
should say, like the most recently. You know, I run
it to include him in this list just because I
kind of don't want to know, to make make up
him for the reasons you said. It was kind of
like kind of seen it before, like I haven't been

(19:27):
that impressed, but like now maybe, but it could just
be a you know, we are talking about twenty four
and two thirds innings, which you know, feels like a
lot are large enough sample size, but also like in
the grand scheme of the baseball world, that is like
an hour of sample size. It's really small. I also
looked up Nolan McLain's name and there was no pronunciation information,

(19:47):
so maybe no nobody knows how to pronounce it. We'll
have to ask him himself. I assume it's McLain despite
the spelling. But that is kind of the uh, the
issue you run into with when you work in our
industry and you just like look at these names all
day and you just like read it, read it, read it,
and you just don't think about pronouncing it until you
have to, and then you realize, actually, I don't know

(20:08):
how to say this name. I know how, I've said
it in my head for the last two weeks.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
I yeah, when when I started doing the Hockey Budding podcast,
I was like, oh, I have to start saying their
names out loud.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
Like hockey's a different, a different names. No.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
And I was just going to say, in my defense
on Waldrop, you know, yeah, Okay, it was only two
games last year, but he pitched seven innings, gave up
thirteen runs, walked eight guys, gave up three homers. I
mean it just I was very uninspired, and so there
was there was a very tiny sample sized reason for
me to drop him. But I was just picking him
up everywhere.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Now, Yeah, and that's a good point because I was
going to kind of say the same thing. And we'll
all get into more of these when we switch over
to Waiver Central too. But I recommend pick them up,
all of these guys, because they all are intriguing for
different reasons. Maybe not Bubba Chandler. Jacob n z Urowski
is definitely rostered in near league already, Bubba Chandler is
likely rostered in your real league already, But in weekly leagues,

(21:04):
maybe not. But also like they are the two with
potentially the lowest ceilings here just because of the bullpen stuff.
But Nol McLain Hurst and Waldrip who is surprisingly not
as rostered as I thought. And I was researching this,
and then Parker Messick all very intriguing, and McLain did,

(21:24):
I like, until recently, hadn't really heard of him. I'm
not as like, I know, you know, I'm in a
lot of dynasty leagues and keeper leagues. I know a
lot of the top you know prospects or like the
upper you know, upper third tier prospects, so I kind
of know who's coming and who to pay attention to.
I very intentionally, don't really dig deeper than that. In

(21:46):
in Dynasty, I I I'm not like a draft a
really really young guy and hold on to him for
like five years in Dynasty, I'm just not that patient.
I focus on, like the guys who are going to
be up soon, whether I need to like you know,
trade or maybe focus on a lesser prospect who's going
to be up sooner. This is kind of my style.

(22:07):
But I had never really like dug into Nolan McLain
and researching him from the show. He's like been pretty good,
you know, dating back to last year and even a
little bit before that, twenty twenty four and double A
numbers weren't like spectacular, But in the minors this year
across double A and triple A two point four to
five year right and one hundred and twenty seven strikeouts
and one hundred and thirteen and two third innings. I

(22:29):
can get down with that, like twenty seven percent strike
out rate. And in his first you know, in his
in his debut here he did walk four guys, but
eight strikeouts and five and the third innings five and
the third innings. I'm okay with that. Like that, that's
intriguing enough, especially the strikeout numbers, if you can give me,
like you know, I'm assuming with a young pitcher performance

(22:52):
production is going to be a little viatile. But if
that comes with plus strikeout numbers, then I'm much more
willing to deal with, you know, the other stuff.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Yeah, I mean, I think when you when you pick
up a young pitcher, and you and I are kind
of on the same exact path when it comes to
our knowledge of prospects, it's it's there, but it's not
it's not what a lot of other people's are. But yeah,
I think that you got to kind of tolerate the
walks a little bit, especially if they're a high strikeout
guy and you just want to make sure that strikeout

(23:22):
rate is there. If it's like all walks and not
a great amount of strikeouts, then you start to kind
of like benj until you see something different.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
Is there a picture on this list, and I'm assuming
it might be Waldrop that you would kind of put
above the rest, as you know, if you wanted to
target one of these guys in waivers. And we'll exclude
Chandler and Zierowski just because I think they're a little
bit different but of the other four, is Waldrop the
one that would be the kind of the top of
your list for like waiver targets?

Speaker 2 (23:54):
I think so, I mean, I'm you know, later we're
going to talk about Schlitzler a little bit more, and
and so he's he's also in there for me at
this point, just kind of where his matchup st are,
how he's been most recently. But with Waldrop, I feel
a little bit more confident or interest in him, and
he's probably way more available, So I would I would

(24:16):
just be willing to give him a shot at this point.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Yeah, that's fair. I'm I keep coming back to Nolan McLean.
I'm very intrigued by him, but I don't know about
if I would put him above Waldrop for me. Now,
before we move on, let's circle back to your entrance song.
Have you thought about it at all? While not thinking
you definitely haven't been thinking about all of these pictures
after on it you Have you thought it all about
your entrance song?

Speaker 2 (24:41):
I mean, yeah, I have, well I have one. If
it's me right then yea.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
You you're like, yeah, game or whatever you want to
be like, I got I go to a bunch of
local MMA fights, I believe it or not. That's the
thing that I do. And I'm always intrigued by their
entrance songs. Yeah, my buddy came out to a Beast
Boys song that I I thought was pretty good.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Yeah, so I mean a I think well, for me personally,
Enterstandment is the greatest closure entrance song that I don't
No one else is going to be able to top
that in my opinion. But if it's me, I'm going
to go with Crazy b by a Buck Cherry because
that seems to best.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
So yeah, yeah, I disagree on sand Man. That's a
hard note for me. I like Hell's Bells. I also
really liked Papal Bonds shipping up to the Boston. I
thought that was very fun. A little biased there. This
is very much top of mine because of the name
who is blanking my mind right now for the Phillies

(25:42):
that they just were acquired, Duran, Yes, because he has
a very fun entrance, and obviously Edwin Diaz has a
fun entrance too, which also brings me up to like
not to do a hole like what really grinds my
gears segment here? But I hate that a lot of
these like interests aren't always televised anymore, especially for like
national broadcasts like Enter the Sandman, How's Bells, like chipping

(26:05):
up to Boston, Like those used to be like TV
events like oh here, this is cool. Now it's like
you almost kind of have to be there to see
him because they're like all these stations are like, let's
get in four minutes of commercials here.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
Yeah, I mean, living in Minnesota, like I saw Duran's
a fair amount. But you write like most most times
on broadcasts they don't show it. I do appreciate in
Minnesota they typically would show it at least the beginning
of it. But yeah, I mean, you know, from the
second that Major League came out as a movie like Closer,
entrances are awesome, so do them awesome? Like let us

(26:40):
see it? You know? So yeah, And I understand you're
hatred of entertainment, but I'm just like, come on. I
mean when he was when he was at the top
of his game, that song was just like like it's over.
I don't even why are you coming up to bat?

Speaker 1 (26:54):
So yeah, unless you're at the Red Sox who beat
him all the time.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Also, he balked on every pitch and I'll never never
not die on that hill. So you know, however many
pitches he threw in his career, he balked on ninety
eight percent of them. But in the comments, let us
know your either favorite other than enter the Sandman, which stinks.
Let us know, get this out of there. Is it

(27:21):
not Enter the Sandman's just enter Sandmon even worse, even worse,
it's even worse. In the comments, let us know your
if either your favorite one from current or past players,
or if you were a closer, what would your entrance
song be? Because I got to be honest, I think
about this all the time, like almost every time. I'm like,
I'm listening to a song and it's like kind of cool.

(27:41):
I'm like, I could come out to this if I
was a closer, like if I still got it. Yeah,
all right, moving on, as much as uh as much
as I want to continue bashing that overrated reliever you
keep bringing up, let's go to Waivers Central and talk
about our favorite hitters and favorite pitchers we're targeting. And

(28:03):
you know, we are in the dog days of August.
If you're in head to head leagues, you're either in
the playoffs or they are starting like tomorrow and for
rodo you know, we're getting down to the nitty gritty here,
and so there are not going to be the biggest
names on waivers, although we did just talk about a
lot of fun young pitchers who will be available on waivers.
So this week kind of feels a little bit more

(28:24):
exciting than recent ones. But with that warning label attached
to this segment, let's go to your favorite hitter. And
I also have a follow up question about your hitter
because I think this is an interesting one. But I'll
stop delaying anymore and let you talk about this player.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Yeah, I mean, I put gag before this, so I'm
it take it with every grain of salt. But yeah,
for me, I've picked up gen Carlos Stanton a lot
of different places in the last couple of weeks, and
I believe I've been rewarded pretty pretty well for that.
He is homering at a pace that's kind of old

(29:04):
Stanton esque, but we will see if he can hang
in there injury wise leading up to it. But yeah,
I mean right now for the season, obviously it's only
forty six games, but you know, wh he's flashing three eleven,
three eighty nine six, forty two he's got fifteen home
runs in forty six games he plays, and they agreed
upon the league ballpark. So I'm not I feel like

(29:27):
this is one of those pick him up, write it out.
He's only fifteen percent rostered. I don't. I don't know
why you would hold off on it. Yeah, he feels
like if you want some power.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
Yeah, at this point in his career, he feels almost
like an evergreen waiver wire target for me, like if
I need a little bit of power, and he's looking
like he might play every day, like I'll pick him
up and ride him a few weeks. I'm going to
ask you a question unrelated to waivers, and I want
you to answer within three seconds without thinking about it.
It's a yes or no question, So it's not going

(29:59):
to be like bu but I don't want you to
think about it. I want you to give your your
immediate gut reaction to this yes or no question.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Okay, all right, yep.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Is John Carlos Stanton a Hall of Famer.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
I know that's what the question was going to be. No,
I don't. And he's got what three hundred and fifty
one home runs for his career, so.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
Or he's on like, I bring this up because I
was Chris Towers brought this up a week or so ago,
and he kind of my gut reaction was like, no way,
but he kind of he is on track to reach
five hundred home.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Runs, yes, And I mean, and that's if he.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
Hits five hundred home runs. Does he have to be
in just because of that milestone?

Speaker 2 (30:41):
I mean, I don't know. He's thirty five, So how
much on pace for five fudder home runs is he?

Speaker 1 (30:47):
Like?

Speaker 2 (30:47):
How long are we thinking he's gonna pu He's literally
sitting at three hundred and fifty one. I'm looking at right,
staring at his page unless our page is wrong, But yeah,
I mean I don't I don't know at this point,
and I feel like, where are you at? Then we
need to talk, we need to call some people. Okay,

(31:09):
we're missing something. Then okay, four forty four, then yes,
he's on pace for five hundred, but no, I uh,
I don't know. I feel like the narrative on him
with the injuries is going to be a problem. Just
he wasn't always healthy, right like he he hasn't played
He played above one hundred and fifty games twice in
his career again unless our stats page is off, which

(31:30):
apparently it might be.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
Well, I think I think what it is is we
only go back so many years for fantasy elements, and
so we aren't including the We only go back to
twenty thirteen. He's he gave you ten, so we're missing
three full seasons of him.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Okay, that makes that makes way more than okay, And
then yeah, it's absolutely possible. Who gets five hundred. I
don't know if that's an auto in anymore. So my
answer to start was no, but I am willing. You
gave me three seconds, I'm willing to be I'm willing
to change my mind on it.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
That's why I wanted to because I had the same thing.
I was like, no, And then then I listened and
he was like, he's on base for half and home runs,
and I was like, I feel like, maybe you kind
of have to at that point, like, you know, as
disappointing as it is that it was kind of like,
you know, he's kind of been like this role player
for the last five years of his career. I don't

(32:23):
know that I can stick my nose up by five
phone of home runs as much as I would like to.
Maybe it's like one of those like milestone achievements where
like you just put a piece of him in the
Hall of Fame, like you just put his bad in,
but he's not allowed like like this is really cool,
like we're going to put this bad in, but like
you're not allowed in here.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Like yeah, I mean, and I have loved him, honestly,
Like I've been drafting him in fantasy since he was
with the Marlins, like not not even blinking on it.
Like I got in the year that he blew up,
like and I drafted him way late in my league.
But and I remember writing on the sheet of paper
at the time his name was Mike, right, but I
remember writing on a sheet of pay for my draft strategy.

(33:01):
It was like just take him in the six and
don't ask questions, like just just take him. And I
was rewarded pretty heavily with that, So so I do
like him. It's just, yeah, the narrative on his career
in my head is one of so many injuries that
it's just like like I don't know that was my
initial instinct, but that's.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
Also like more of it. Like if not for the injuries,
maybe hit six hundrum runs. Yeah, you know, like as
much as I want to be a hater, I feel like,
if you hit that milestone for the sake of longevity
and I'm not one of these. I really don't like
the Football Hall of Fame because they just let anyone
in like there are There are so many people in

(33:43):
the fro Football Hall of Fame you've never heard of,
whereas in baseball it's much more exclusive. It's a little
too exclusive on baseball. I wish they would be like
somewhere in the middle. But I do feel like if
you hit a milestone like that, it's like, all right, yeah,
you're in. No not to do a whole segment on
the Yankees, but my waiver hitter of the week is

(34:03):
also a Yankee, and I'm going with Trent Grisham, who
has been very streaky both this season and throughout his career.
But he's heating up again and playing every day batting
lead up for the Yankees, and it just feels like
you're gonna get runs. He's sitting for power again right now.
I did want to bring up one thing about him
because I was looking at this while prepping for the show,

(34:24):
and there is one very interesting stat and I want
to get your take on it and see what you think,
because I have different theories on it. Well really gets
like one theory, but I have different theories about like
what's going to happen next, so the most so like
when you think about Trent Grisham, it's like all right,
like you know a lot of potential, has it really
lived up to it, but wasn't in an ideal offensive

(34:46):
ballpark in San Diego. Now with the Yankees, very ideal
ballpark with that short portra right field, so you would
think perfect fit. That's why we're seeing it. However, at
home verse righties. So in Yankee Stadium, as a leftenant
hitter against righty's, he is batting one eighty seven. Now

(35:08):
he does have seven home runs, but that's still pretty
wild that he's batting one eighty seven against righties at home,
whereas like against the lefties, he's batting one fifty three,
where or if for the season against lefties is batting
one ninety two a wave lefties one fifty three and
home lefties, very small sample sized by batting two fifty,

(35:30):
but I'm assuming that, like he's just hitting a Yankee
stadium and all he's doing is just like looking out
and like he can like touch right field from the
batters Yeah, from the batter's box, and that's all he's
thinking about, which is probably why that's happening, but it isn't.
But it also is like what if he kind of
stops doing that and like turns it around and just

(35:51):
like he could kind of put it all together. I
think he's always going to kind of be this vollet old,
streaky player. But what are your thoughts on Trent Christiam
and that amazing stat I just threw.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
It's I mean, that may be the coolest stat that
I've heard like all season long, So good job way
to find it. It is actually interesting. But what I
was laughing at more was in my home league, which
is it's a ten teamer. I literally just swapped these two.
I had Grisham and I picked up Stanton and dropped
Grisham like last night, literally, so when we both type

(36:22):
these names, and I was like, right and mostly just
you know, again, I just trust, I trust and if
he's upright to be more consistent on the home runs.
But Grisham has been a solid fantasy player. And again
it's a more shallow league, so it's not as hard
to kind of swap that out. But yeah, if I
think I'm with you, I feel like that's a lot

(36:42):
of pressure because I didn't Bell injured you that a
little bit too, and then like once he just kind
of like loosened up. He it kind of figured that
he figured it out once he was there. So yeah,
that's that's my take on Grisham.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
Yeah, but it's more like this is a short term play,
Like he's basic lead off for the Yankees team that
seems to be heating up after they were very gold
and they really needed to hit up and just to
keep things going. It sounds like you're going to bring
up another Yankee, so let's go.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
It is kind of interesting. When I was looking at it,
I was like, okay, so my favorite pitcher on waivers
for next week is the aforementioned Cam Schlitzler. I always
make sure that I emphasize that with you. But I mean,
he's got two stars next He's got two stars. Next week,
he's got the Nationals at home, and then he goes
to Chicago to play the White Sox. He's I just

(37:32):
feel like in terms of pick up for just streaming,
I like him a lot next week. So that's that's
my pickup no in.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
My home league, And yeah, I almost picked up I
almost picked Schlitzler for my two star pitcher this week.
In fact, I haven't picked anyone yet, so I still might.
We're going to do it live, but we were talking
about that before the show. I will say. In my
home you know, we've talked about the Yankees a ton today.
In my very long running home league, I actually have
a no Yankees rule. I've never rostered a Yankee and

(38:03):
I never will. It's just kind of a fun personal
rule I have for that league. Do you I'm like
probably one of the more ridiculous people that you know.
Do you have any kind of quirks like that in
any leagues where like you just don't do anything or
you can know anyone who does stuff like that in lea.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
Yes, there's a guy in my home league that will
not roster a Yankee. And he's a huge He's a
huge Twins fan. And as much as the Red Sox
Yankees have a rivalry, if you're a Twins fan, you
hate the Yankees with the.

Speaker 1 (38:31):
Power of that's a one side.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
I mean that is they didn't beat them for what
like sixteen years in a row or something. I mean,
like they didn't win a serious against them forever. I
don't even know if they've broken it yet, but anyway, Yeah,
I uh, he won't. He won't roster them, and he
has to have a twin on his team at all times,
which I think has gotten really difficult this year. Yeah,
but yeah, I think I think you drafted Ryan to

(38:54):
Joe Ryan to make that easier.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
But nice. I think they're considered the other rule about
having a time to have a Red Sox player, but
I've actually brought it up in like, you know, trade negotiations.
People will be like, hey, I'll give you like these
three players for these two, and I'm like, I can't
do it. Can't have a Yankee, can't you know, give
me someone else and I'll take a worse player. Just
did not have a Yankee on my team, and for
a while it probably hurt me. But I did win

(39:17):
the league last year, so I'll take it. And it's
a big money league, so I'll take it. We Alred
talked about Nolan McLain, but he is my pickup of
the of the waiver Wire pick up of the week.
I just think he's very intriguing it sounds like the
Mets are going to keep him in the rotation, as
I think they should, and I just think there's some
upside there and a bonus one. Like like I said
in the previous you know segment when we were playing cricket,

(39:38):
I'm interested in all of these young pictures for various reasons,
and so you know, bonus if you want to pick
up Herston and Waldrip if he's still available. I was
very shocked looking at his roster numbers that he's much
more widely available than I expected. It could be a
lot of you know, we're late into getting into late August,
a lot of these you know, let's be honest, a
lot of fantasy baseball leagues are less active. The deeper
get into the season, people start to check it out,

(40:00):
they start to see football in the distance. So roster
numbers can be a little misleading on who's available in
which leagues. But in sharp leagues you probably won't be available.
But in some we're in some shallower leagues, he will
be available. And then some deep league targets. Brett Baty
doing some things, Jack Perkins doing some things. Tell me, Fam,
it's being Tommy Fam. Parker Messick and Cam Schluitler you

(40:21):
already mentioned, but yeah, all game game Schlittler, Man, I
can't that's you gotta keep it's dangerous. We need the
nickname so we don't have to keep saying that. But
you know you like six percent rostered, Like he needs
to be rostered more than that, Like that's that's absurdly love,
Like I was talking about Waldrop, but Waldrip's out like
twenty two percent, maybe a little bit higher, maybe like

(40:44):
twenty five percent. Six percent. He needs to be rostered
more than that. And if you're struggling with your lineup pocisions,
our Lineup Persistent recommends optimal lineup suggestions to maximize your
team's performance performance. I did the same Uh, I think
I did the same mess up last week. Maximize your
team's performance each day of the week. Just sink your

(41:04):
league for tailored guidance based on your roster and league settings.
Download the Fantasy Baseball My Playbook app or visit fantaspros
dot com slash MLB My Playbook to set your winning
lineup today. And I will say, as someone who's in
like twelve leagues, I use this tool very often, and
I think I talked about the show. My favorite thing
about the site when you sink your leagues is just

(41:26):
typing in a name and seeing where he's rostered, which
saves me so much time. I'm not like clicking through
four different league hosts and like type it in the
player's name. I just type it in once I see
where he's available, and I go now for the Grand Finale,
Ease Grand Finale. Since it's kind of two segments of
our show, let's talk pitching streamers and two start pitcher competition.

(41:50):
This has been a very pitching heavy show, but I
think that is accurate for this time the season. I
think pitching or some of the biggest decisions you're making
right now, you're gonna see a lot more pitching volume
on and off the waiver wire, whereas hitters you know
not so much. You kind of know what you have
by now, So why don't you take us through each
day of the week using the Fantasy pros Streamer tool

(42:13):
Take it Away.

Speaker 2 (42:15):
I also wanted to mention I did look up Schlitler
on Baseball Reference. He does not have a nickname. I'm
sure he has nicknames, they probably just can't write them down.
So all right, so here we go streamers on Monday.
So the highest ranked streamer by VBR on Fantasy Pros
with the like rostered percentage that's below the you know,

(42:37):
fifty to forty five that we're looking at, is Michael
McGreevy for the Cardinals. You're not going to get much
strikeouts from him, but he does get to face the
Pirates at home, so he might be worth a stream.
Max Schuzer seems to have found Max Schurzer a little
bit of recent days. And on Tuesday he gets to
play at home against the Twins. And again I have

(42:58):
no trouble targeting the Twins because I think other teams
are starting to figure them out the youth, and it's
going to get a little bit harder for them, and
that will absolutely be Max Schuers are against players that
could be his children. Wednesday. I don't how would Brian
Bellow still available. He's only say, he's only rostered in
twenty nine percent of leagues. I've said for weeks, for weeks,

(43:21):
we've talked about this, but he gets he gets to
go to Baltimore and faced the Orioles. I think the
Royals have gotten a smidge better of late, but that
still doesn't scare me at all.

Speaker 1 (43:33):
That someone I have mentioned in waivers, Samuel Psaio, if
he's not.

Speaker 2 (43:36):
Rostered, Yes, I also have him in the league. He
all of my minor league players in that league basically
all got here at the same like, on the same day,
so I had to drop. It was a mess. I
had to drop so many veterans. Anyway. On Thursday, Will
Warren for the Yankees, sorry to keep talking about him,
but they get to play they They get to play
the White Sox next week, so why not target them.

(43:59):
They're in Chicago. But I don't care, And I believe
I can't remember if Warren has a I don't remember
his splits, but he's got pretty he's got pretty strong
split size. Can't remember if road is better. But anyway,
sorry about that. You know, football around here just friese
or brains. Okay. On Friday, Michael Waka faces Detroit at home.
He was the highest ranked BBR guy. Again, I believe. Saturday,

(44:24):
Jacob Lopez for the Athletics gets Texas. Now that's at home,
so that's not the best idea. But I don't I
don't remember seeing a ton that I really enjoyed. I
liked on Saturday, I mean because again McGreevy is the
highest ranked, but he goes he's in Cincinnati, So yeah,
it was just kind of a that was a messy day,

(44:46):
which is odd for Saturday, and then on Sunday it
got even messier. So I might be willing if my
ratios are solid or already completely lost. Uh. Spencer Raghetti
gets the Angels at home. Angels like just break out
a lot. He likes to walk everyone and and their siblings,
so that's a that also is a hairy one, but

(45:08):
he probably will rack up a few strikers.

Speaker 1 (45:10):
So yeah, they are striking out at an incredible clip
right now. Oh really all season. I shouldn't even say
right now, they've been. They've been doing that all season.
The one name he didn't mention Cam Slowly come on, Well,
we talked.

Speaker 2 (45:23):
About him so much that I figured we'd cover him already.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
Yeah, I don't. I don't disagree emit. Shean is an
intriguing name, and we didn't mention. He gets the Reds,
which like, it's not a great matchup, it's not a
terrible matchup. Is he a two star? Is he a
two star pitcher?

Speaker 2 (45:43):
I think he is let's see, they've got that six
man rotation.

Speaker 1 (45:47):
Give me a break. Dave Roberts, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:50):
I looked at that. Although after Otani start last night,
who knows that's true.

Speaker 1 (45:54):
Scheduled off day today on Thursday. But I think it
seems like he'll be fine. I also like, as much
as I love that he's a two way player, like
it might just be time to just be a hitter.
Come on, we don't need to see a pitch. You're
already the best hitter. Yah, but it is very fun.
It'll probably I'll probably change my mind in the playoffs

(46:15):
when he's like incredible in the playoffs. But like this
whole season of like he's not pitching and he's like
ramping up, and like, no, he's pitching just a little bit,
And I'm like, come on, I have him in a
daily league where I can move him back and forth.
I just I don't move him, which is what I
would also do in weekly Like if I had him
in a weekly league, I would never move him out

(46:35):
of my hitting or not, but in daily I would like,
all right, I'll move him for a day to get
the pitching stats. I'm not even doing that this year.
I don't need four innings. But okay, let's get to
our two star pitcher competition. Yeay, Now, last week you
picked Chris Paddock, and boy did it not go well

(46:56):
for you. However, I when I was looking at the stats,
I was like, oh, this is a landslide, and I
looked at Chris Paddocks. But George kirby second star was
also not very good.

Speaker 2 (47:09):
Yeah. I was like, oh, the first start was so good,
but if it hadn't been, this would have been way tighter.

Speaker 1 (47:14):
Kirby's blow up, Yeah, because Chris Pattick ended up with
like thirteen points because his second start was like a
one pointer.

Speaker 2 (47:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (47:21):
And George Kirby ended up like twenty six points, but
that's because his first star was a twenty five pointer
and its second start was just as bad as Paddings.
So it was still a blowout, but not in only
because like between the two of them, they had one
good start out of four. But I did take the win,
which puts me up eight to seven to two on
the year against you and Worm. And as I said

(47:45):
earlier we were talking before the show, I have yet
to pick a two star Picture Camp competitor for this week.
I have not yet chosen my fighter, So why don't
you go first and tell us about who you're picking?

Speaker 2 (47:58):
All right? So yeah, I mean again, And I used
the Fantasy pros to start Pitcher's tool and the highest
ranked guy that I hadn't that worm had not already used.
Because I'm sorry, I'm not going to shut up about
it that I'm coming in here having to pick around
what he's already picked.

Speaker 1 (48:14):
And do you start Pitcher this week? But you have
already used him.

Speaker 2 (48:17):
I've already used him, but like, yeah, no, you know,
I don't have a lot too some from sometimes. But
Kevin Gosman has two home games. The first is against Minnesota,
the second is against Milwaukee. I don't love the Milwaukee start. However,
he's not a lefty. I feel like I'm much more
I'm way more worried when facing the Brewers if it's

(48:37):
a left handed hitter or a left handed pitcher. So
I'm gonna roll with him, all.

Speaker 1 (48:42):
Right, and just to keep consistent with the show. And
because as you mentioned, is for the options this week,
there are either not a ton of great ones or
we've already used them. Christopher Sanchez obviously, and I will
say Christopher Sanchez, like very early in the season, Worm
kind of like me and Worm kind of stuck our
noses up at Christopher Sanchez just because we were looking

(49:04):
at an article by another site and they were listing
the top pictures in baseball and they listed Christopher Sanchez
like ahead of a bunch of names like fran Bra
Valdez and Yamamoto, who I still don't think, guess in
respect he deserves. And we were like, come on, Christopher Sanchez,
and now he's like, it's I young candidate, so maybe
shame on us. We'll have to take the l on
that one. Christopher Sanchez, Jess Zardo de Gram. I'm not

(49:29):
touching Noah Cameron. I kind of like, but uh, I
don't like the second start is against the Tigers. My
AirPod almost just fell out. That would have been disastrous
at the end of the show here, But I think
and I don't like Hunter Green, but his first star
is against the Dodgers, even though they're not like really

(49:50):
like the Dodger monsters. Right now, it saying her Biby Schooble,
We've already used Missy Rowski, We've already talked about you
can't like you're not gonna get five innings out of him,
so you're really capping yourself there, kud I Senga, you know,
not interested. And so to keep with the theme of

(50:11):
the show, I'm just gonna do it. Gimme Cam chal
Lettler and let's just do it. He's got the Nationals
at home and the White Sox on the road. Let's
hope for the best. And since we spent the whole
episode talking about Yankees, we might as well close things
out with a Yankee to start pitcher. I'll just have
to hope that he throws, you know, just nine innings

(50:37):
of one hit, one run ball and loses one nothing
in both of his starts, which would be perfect for me.
Maybe have like twenty five strikeouts, nine innings, one hit,
one run, no walks. I'll take that. But they have
to lose to lose the game. Anything else. Should we

(50:58):
wrap it up?

Speaker 2 (51:00):
No, But I'm really hoping that production can come up
with us on like play on Cam Schlitzler for this episode,
because that has got to be what it's called. So
I'm a little afraid of what Kelly might come up with,
but we'll see so. But yeah, otherwise, no, just enjoy
your enjoy the continued baseball. If you're making a playoff push.
I'm making a playoff push in one league, and I'm

(51:21):
kind of just you know, play it hard and see
if you can get in.

Speaker 1 (51:25):
Yeah, this is the time when you know, the fantasy
baseball diehards really shine, because even managers in your leagues
who are like doing well. It's I always say, because like,
fantasy football is so much bigger than fantasy baseball. Not
everyone who plays fantasy football plays fantasy baseball, like it's
like probably ten percent, but like almost everyone who plays

(51:46):
fantasy baseball does play at least a little bit of
fantasy football. So there are a lot of wandering eyes
in your leagues this year, and you kind of you know,
you can catch people sleeping, kind of creep back up
in the standings, or you know, steal some winds and
head to head. So stay vigilant us the Fantasy pros tools.
I'm gonna update my rankings today or tomorrow because I'm

(52:08):
you know, I'm a little overdue on doing that, but
I will. I have a lot of notes to get through, yeah,
and I will have to my rankings and yeah, finish
it out strong. We'll be here to see you through.
We're not going anywhere. We're not quitters like worm going
over to football, although Kelly does have a fantasy football
draft in like seventeen minutes.

Speaker 2 (52:28):
Yeah, so I don't mean to roll.

Speaker 1 (52:30):
If I can keep like filibustering for like eighteen minutes,
I can make you late for it. But that probably
wouldn't be the best show.

Speaker 2 (52:37):
It's a Guillotune league, so there's exactly one strategy in
Guilloto Wings, and I know what it is, so it's fine.

Speaker 1 (52:45):
I disagree. I am. I went with a very different
strategy last year and I almost won, but I lost
in the championship. My strategy is blow all of your
fab immediately. I'm the best player. It's the first two weeks,
and then just figure it out the rest of the way.

Speaker 2 (52:58):
Oh no, I just mean just just draft people with
late buyes and then go from there.

Speaker 1 (53:06):
All right, we can wrap it up there. We don't
want to anger people with the football talk. But again
in the comments, yeah, how dare you? But let us
know your favorite entrance song for if you were an
MLB closer, or if you have a favorite one. Let
us know what your favorite nickname for Cam Schiller should
be because it doesn't seem like he has one, and
he really really needs one.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
Really.

Speaker 1 (53:29):
I want to do a little bit of dead air
for there for a second for dramatic effect. Hopefull they
don't edit that out because I kind of like the
awkwardness all right. For Kelly Kirby, I am Mike Mayor.
This has been the cycle, and thank you for stopping by.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
