from us through powerfultestimonies, biblical truth, and
so much more as we fuel ourminds and bodies in ways that honor
him.
Let's get fed.
Hello, friends.
Happy Monday.
How are we?
I hope that you're great.
Welcome back.
Episode 3 of Fed by the Fruit.
(00:43):
This is so exciting to me.
I'm enjoying this so much andI'm just so excited to see where
God takes this.
As I mentioned in the firstepisode, each month the plan will
be to have a powerfultestimony from a guest, which you
heard last week with my friendLauren Garner.
(01:03):
And then we'll have an episodediving deeper into well known or
not so well known stories andcharacters of the Bible.
And then we'll have an episodeon how to apply biblical truth to
our daily lives.
And then a wild card where I'mjust gonna share what I love or what's
happening in my life.
We'll figure it out when weget there.
But this week we are going todive into the story of Adam and Eve.
(01:27):
So if you listen to theepisode about Noah, I mention the
story of Adam and Eve and sinentering the world.
And I got a few messages ofpeople being like, share that.
Like, let's start there.
So we're gonna do that today.
We're gonna, we're gonna chatabout Adam and Eve and how sin entered
the world.
(01:47):
So on the sixth day ofcreation, God made Adam by breathing
life into the dust of the earth.
He placed him in Eden to tendand cultivate the garden.
God saw it was not good forAdam to be alone.
Every living creature in thegarden had a mate, except for Adam.
(02:07):
So God put Adam into a deepsleep and used one of Adam's ribs
to create a suitable companion.
Adam and Eve were made tocomplete and care for one another.
So in the middle of thegarden, there were two trees.
The Tree of Life.
And then the second tree wasthe Tree of the Knowledge of Good
and Evil.
(02:28):
Adam and Eve were allowed toeat from any tree in the garden.
Now, there weren't just twotrees, there were many, many trees.
But there were two trees rightin the middle.
The one they were not allowedto eat from.
One day, the serpentapproached Eve and convinced her
to eat the fruit of theforbidden tree, telling her that
she would not Die.
But she would just be as wiseas God if she did.
(02:50):
Eve fell into the temptation.
She ate the fruit, and sheshared it with Adam.
Suddenly, their eyes wereopened, and they realized they were
naked.
This was the first instance ofshame on earth.
They tried to coverthemselves, and they hid.
Not long after, they heard thesound of God's footsteps as he walked
in the garden.
They were living in a gardenwhere God walked.
(03:12):
They heard the sound of his footsteps.
God asked them why they were hiding.
And Adam blamed Eve, and Eveblamed the serpent.
God was angry and sad.
He cursed the serpent to walkon his belly for the rest of his
life.
Eve would bear children withgreat pain.
So if you wonder whychildbirth is so painful, it's because
Eve ate the fruit.
(03:34):
Um, and Adam had to work insorrow and sweat to provide for his
family until his death.
So the fruit of the tree oflife would no longer make them live
forever.
They were made to live forever.
God's plan was that they would.
God then expelled them fromthe Garden of Eden.
And this is how sin enteredthe world and is often referred to
as the fall of man.
(03:56):
In Genesis 3:22, God says, theman has now become like one of us,
knowing good and evil.
So knowledge in itself is not wrong.
So then you ask, what was sobad about man knowing about Adam
and Eve knowing good and evil?
So to understand this, it'svital to know the context of God's
(04:17):
statement.
God had already told Adam notto eat from this tree.
Adam was already aware thatdoing so was wrong, and he knew the
consequences.
Yet he chose to join Eve ineating the fruit.
When they ate, they were notsimply aware of evil.
They experienced evil.
To the extent that they becameevil, they were now sinners by nature.
(04:38):
And now you'll hear that thefall of man came through Adam's sin.
And sometimes people ask, well, didn't it come through Eve's
sin?
But the truth is, God hadalready told Adam not to eat from
the tree.
The.
The.
The command not to eat fromthat tree was given by God to Adam.
He had shared it with Eve,yes, but he's the one who heard it
(05:02):
from God himself.
And so he chose in that momentto sin.
When he let Eve tempt him intoeating the fruit, he made a choice
to sin.
Eve was deceived by the serpent.
Adam knew what was good.
He was created in goodness andwas surrounded by it.
He had been given everythingGod wanted him to have, including
(05:23):
authority over all the rest ofhis creation.
Adam had everything he neededfor a fulfilling life.
He did not need to know evil.
Especially when the only wayfrom him to know it was to experience
it.
It should have been enoughthat God had warned Adam against
disobedience.
God did not want Adam and Eveto know evil in the sense of participating
(05:44):
in it.
The sin of Adam and Eve wasnot in attaining knowledge, but in
rejecting God's will in favorof their own.
Adam and Eve began life inideal conditions.
They lived in this beautifulgarden with plentiful food, a harmonious
relationship with one another, and close friend fellowship with
God.
But due to sin, they losttheir garden.
(06:05):
They were required to work toproduce food.
They experienced conflict witheach other and damaged their fellowship
with God.
These consequences of Adam'ssin still affect us today.
This was then enteringhumanity through the disobedience
of Adam and Eve with theirfree will.
The apostle Paul spoke aboutthe last Adam who is Jesus.
(06:27):
Okay, so you'll hear about thefirst Adam.
That's Adam, Adam and Eve.
And the last Adam is Jesus, who came to restore our broken relationship
with God.
Remember, the relationship isbroken because of Adam and Eve's
sin in the garden.
Since death came through aman, the first Adam, because we were
never meant to die, theresurrection of the dead comes also
(06:50):
through a man, Jesus, thesecond Adam.
Adam was responsible for sin'sentrance into humanity and Jesus
Christ was responsible forproviding the way for resurrection.
After sin entered humanity,Jesus became the perfect substitute
to allow every person theopportunity to believe and receive
eternal life.
(07:10):
It was through Adam that sinentered the world.
How many times can I say it right?
When Adam sinned, heimmediately died spiritually.
Okay, that was a spiritual death.
His relationship with God wasbroken and he also began dying physically.
Remember, we were not meant to die.
His body began the process ofgrowing old and dying.
From that point on, everyperson has inherited Adam's sin nature
(07:33):
and suffered the sameconsequences of spiritual and physical
death.
So next time you see a grayhair or a new wrinkle, blame it on
Adam.
We are born physically alive, but spiritually death dead.
This is why Jesus says we mustbe born again.
I used to be so confused.
I'm like, why do I gotta beborn again?
I.
I always believed in Jesus.
(07:53):
Well, guess what?
We were born alive physically, but spiritually dead because of Adam's
sin.
Physical birth provides uswith a sinful human nature.
Spiritual rebirth provides uswith a new nature.
So this physical birth thatprovides us with a sinful human nature,
(08:13):
that is original sin.
We're all born with originalsin because of Adam.
So spiritual rebirth providesus with A new nature created to be
like God in true righteousnessand holiness.
So you may say it's not fairto be saddled with Adam's sin nature,
but it's consistent with otheraspects of humanity.
(08:33):
We inherit some physicalcharacteristics, such as our eye
color, from our parents, right?
And we also inherit some oftheir spiritual characteristics.
So why should the passing onof spiritual traits be any different
from the passing on ofphysical traits?
We may complain about havingbrown eyes when we wanted blue, but
our eye color is simply amatter of genetics.
(08:54):
In the same way, having a sinnature is a matter of our spiritual
genetics.
It's a natural part of life.
We inherit our sin from Adam.
However, the Bible says we aresinners by deed as well as by nature.
So we are sinners twice over.
We sin because we are sinnersby Adam's choice, and we are sinners
because we sin by our own choice.
(09:16):
All have sinned and fall shortof the glory of God.
But you may still be saying, but I did not eat the fruit.
True, but Scripture says thatwe individually and as a human race
were all represented by Adam.
And Adam all die.
Adam was the first createdhuman being.
He stood at the head of thehuman race.
He was placed in the garden toact not only for himself, but for
(09:40):
all of his descendants.
Every person ever born wasalready in Adam, represented by him.
Again, you may say, but I didnot eat the fruit.
True, but all sin hasconsequences beyond the initial wrongdoing.
No man is.
Is an island entire of itself.
The ripples of Adam'smomentous sin are still being felt
(10:02):
today.
And again, you might say, butI didn't eat the fruit.
True, you were not physicallypresent in the actual Garden of Eden
with the juice of forbiddenfruit staining the corners of your
mouth.
But the Bible seems toindicate that if you had been there
instead of Adam, you'd havedone the same thing he did.
The apple, as they say, doesnot fall far from the tree.
(10:26):
Whether or not we think it'sfair to have Adam's sin imputed upon
us doesn't really matter.
God says that we haveinherited Adam's sinful nature.
And who are we to argue with God?
Besides, we are sinners in ourown right.
Our own.
Think about it.
Think about the things thatyou've done.
Our sin, as compared to Adam'ssin of taking a bite of an apple,
(10:48):
our sin is probably way worse.
Right?
Adam probably seems like apretty good guy compared to.
Well, I know I'll speak for myself.
Compared to the things I've Done.
My gosh.
So here's the good news.
God loves sinners.
In fact, he acted to overcomeour sin nature by sending Jesus to
pay for our sins and offer ushis righteousness.
(11:10):
Jesus took the death that wasour penalty upon Himself, so that
in him we might become therighteousness of God.
Note the words in him, we whowere once in Adam can now be in Christ
by faith, by being reborn.
Christ is our new head.
And in Christ all will be made alive.
(11:31):
So in Adam, we all died.
But in Christ, when you'rereborn, you can be alive.
Jesus paid the price for your sins.
So yes, all people inheritedsin from Adam and Eve because of
their disobedience.
Sin has been an inheritancefor all of their descendants.
So again, through Adam, sinentered the world.
(11:51):
And so death was passed on toall men because all have sinned.
This passed on sin is known asinherited sin.
Just as we inherit physicalcharacteristics from our parents,
we we inherit our sinfulnature from Adam.
Is this making sense?
Does this make sense?
If this is something you neverquite understood, I really want this
to make sense.
So as you're listening, if youhave more questions, please send
(12:14):
them to me.
If something doesn't makesense, I would love to dive into
it deeper or just send you amessage and share my thoughts with
you.
Because all have sinned andfall short of the glory of God, we
need a perfect, sinlesssacrifice to wash away our sin.
Something we are powerless todo on our own.
Thankfully, Jesus Christ isthe Savior from sin.
(12:34):
Our sin has been crucified onthe cross of Jesus.
And now in him we haveredemption through his blood, the
forgiveness of sins accordingto the riches of his grace.
So God in His infinite wisdom, has provided the remedy for the sin
we inherit.
And that remedy is availableto everyone.
(12:56):
It may be hard to see how Adamand Eve's falling into sin could
bring glory to God.
In fact, some might evenwonder why.
Because he did know.
If God knew ahead of time allthe trouble they would cause, why
did he even make Adam and Eve?
God knows the future, so hedefinitely knew that Adam and Eve
would sin.
But he created them anyway andgave them a free will with which
(13:17):
they chose sin.
We must carefully note thatAdam and Eve's falling into sin does
not mean that God is theauthor of sin or that he tempted
them to sin.
But the fall does serve thepurpose of God's overall plan for
creation and mankind.
So when you read through theScripture, these are the conclusions.
The fall of mankind wasforeknown by God.
(13:40):
He knew what choice Adam andEve would make?
The crucifixion of Christ, which is the atonement for God's
elect.
That means those reborn, thosewho believe that Jesus died for their
sins was foreordained by God.
All people will one dayglorify God.
And God purposes to bringunity to all things in heaven and
(14:01):
on earth under Christ.
So God's purpose was to createa world in which his glory could
be manifest in all its fullness.
Right?
The glory of God is theoverarching goal of creation.
We are made.
Part of our purpose is toglorify God.
The world that best displaysthe glory of God is the world we
have.
A world that was allowed tofall, a world that was redeemed,
(14:24):
and a world that will berestored to its original perfection.
And that happens after Jesuscomes back.
So this is how God showed Hislove to us.
He sent his one and only Soninto the world that we might live
through Him.
Had God decided not to createAdam and Eve based on his knowledge
of their fall, or had he madethem without free will, we would
never have truly known whatlove is.
(14:48):
In the end, God will beglorified as his chosen people worship
him for all eternity with the angels.
That's what we get to lookforward to in heaven.
And the unbelievers will alsoglorify God as His righteousness
results in the eternalpunishment of unrepentant sinners.
That's what they have to lookforward to in hell.
Without the fall of Adam andEve, we would never know God's justice,
(15:10):
grace, mercy or love.
So the next time you wonderwhy bad things happen to good people.
This is why sin entered theworld with Adam and Eve and continues
because of our own free will, which we used to choose sin every
single day.
But God in His infinite mercy, gave us a way out.
He gave us Jesus, the sinless, perfect Lamb of God who died for
(15:33):
us.
He took the penalty of our sinupon Himself to make us blameless.
It takes believing this to bereborn and accept the free gift of
eternal life.
So because we are sinners, wedeserve death.
But by the blood of Jesus onthe cross, we are blameless in God's
sight.
(15:54):
Wow.
How incredible is that?
We have a memory verse forJune and I want to remind you of
it.
It's actually two verses.
Galatians 5, 22 and 23.
But the Holy Spirit producesthis kind of fruit in our lives.
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self control.
There is no law against these things.
(16:17):
Write it.
Study it, meditate on it.
Ask yourself where you can seethe fruit being developed in your
own life.
I hope you learned something today.
