Under 1900-talet var den dominerande tanken att straffet var till för att den dömde skulle få vård och behandling utifrån sin situation för att inte begå brott i framtiden. Idag är utgångspunkten att straffet ska utgå från gärningen: ju svårare brott desto högre straff. Vad finns det för filosofiska idéer bakom vårt sätt att se på straff? Och finns tanken på hämnden kvar i vårt rationella samhälle?
Filosofiska rummet gästas av Torbjörn Tännsjö, professor emeritus i praktisk filosofi vid Stockholms universitet, Göran Duus-Otterström, professor i statsvetenskap vid Göteborgs universitet och Agneta Bäcklund, justitieråd vid Högsta domstolen.
