Hämnden har engagerat filosofer och religiösa tänkare genom historien. I Bibeln finns principen “öga för öga, tand för tand”, som handlar om att hämnden ska vara proportionell. I vårt samhälle ses hämnd som något ociviliserat. Staten tar över och ska skipa rättvisa.
Varför har hämnd blivit fult?
Efter förintelsen var det många nazister som undgick straff eller fick låga straff. Samtidigt fanns det judar som tog lagen i egna händer för att hämnas nazismens fruktansvärda brott.
Om rättssystemet låter förövare gå fria, är det då moraliskt rätt att ta lagen i egna händer och hämnas?
Idag ser vi hur hämnden tar olika former: Gängkriminalitetetens hämndspiraler leder till strängare straff, pedofiler hängs ut på nätet, den misstänkte mördaren Luigi Mangione fick en fanclub efter att han skjutit ihjäl en VD för ett försäkringsbolag i USA. Men även statsmän talar om hämnd. Efter Hamas terror- attack skrev Israels premiärminister Benjamin Netanyahu på X “vi kommer kraftfullt hämnas denna mörka dag” och Trump har sagt att han ska hämnas på sina fiender.
