Pour le couple du studio Black Tabby Games, Slay The Princess ne devait être qu’un petit projet censé leur permettre de rentrer un peu d’argent pour financer les derniers épisodes de Scarlet Hollow, leur première incursion sur le marché du jeu vidéo. Mais en adoptant une production plus resserrée et des choix de design plus percutants, ils ont fini par créer un titre bien plus marquant. Slay The Princess brille par la simplicité de son pitch qui subvertit la figure de la demoiselle en détresse, mais aussi par sa direction artistique, sa capacité à allier humour et horreur, et bien sûr, sa quantité considérable d’embranchements, poussant à explorer encore et encore sa matrice et découvrir d’autres princesses. Mais il tombe aussi parfois dans la caricature philosophique et son dispositif peut saper l’engagement émotionnel sur la durée. Un Visual Novel unique donc, qui aura bien rempli sa mission initiale et promet d’autant plus de choix à l’avenir pour Abby et Tony.
