Ninna Makrinov (The Fat Psychologist podcast) and Nina Robinson (Soundtruism Media Productions) return to Flixwatcher to review Ninna’s choice Dumplin.
Dumplin (2018) is a coming-of-age comedy drama directed by Anne (27 Dresses) Fletcher and based on the novel by Julie Murphy. It stars Danielle Macdonald as Willowdean "Dumplin'" Dickson, Jennifer Aniston as her mother and former beauty queen legend, Rosie Dickson, Odeya Rush as her best friend, Ellen Dryver and Harold Perrineau as drag queen Rhea Ranged.
In a small Texas town, Dumplin is mourning the loss of her Dolly Parton loving aunt who raised her while her mother Rosie obsesses over her own and Dumplin’s appearance. When the annual Miss Teen Bluebonnet Pageant, led by Rosie, opens for applications Dumplin decides to enter to annoy her mother but ends up finding herself and support in unusual places.
Our Flixwatcher scores for Dumplin were high for recommendability and small screen to give an overall rating of 3.83.
