(00:48):
things you'll need to know before youpractice the conversation with your virtual practice partner.
Hello, and welcome to begin aFrench conversation six. Today be talking
about buying something. We've talked abouttrying food before. Today we'll be looking
at another situation where you need totry something out. Our first sentence is

(01:11):
s la nouvelle Nissan Maxima es laNouvelle Nissan Maxima, s La Nouvelle Nissan
Maxima. We've already discussed s whichmeans is this In lesson four, now
we have a new world. Theword nouvelle means new. The masculine form

(01:36):
of the word new is nouvo andthe feminine form is nouvelle. As we
learned in a previous lesson lu is, the masculine form of the end la
is the feminine form of the Soif we want to say the new something,
we say la nouveau or la nouvelle. But why did we use the

(02:00):
feminine form nouvelle in this sentence.Well, that's because we're talking about a
car, the Nissan Maxima. Theword for car in French is voteu,
and it is la voteu a feminineworld. So since we're talking about a
feminine thing, we use la nouvellewhen we talk about the Nissan Maxima.

(02:24):
The conversation continues with the salesperson saying, we el via de sortille las maindernier.
We el villanus to de sortie lassumene dergnier. We el via de
de sortille la sumindernier. Yes,it just came in last week. We

(02:46):
already know that. We means, yes, let's look at something very interesting.
In this sentence, right after theword we. When referring to the
car, they use the word L. Usually the word l means she,
but the word L means it inthis sentence. So why did we use

(03:08):
the word l. That's because,as we just discussed, the car is
a feminine thing, so when werefer to it, we use feminine terms.
If we had been talking about abicycle, which is masculine, which
is lou vello in French, wewould have used ill, which means he,

(03:29):
and we would have said we illvilla just to de sortiell leesseeme indarnier.
In the next part of the sentence, we learn a great phrase which
you can use any time you wantto talk about something that just happened.
That phrase is villan just to dovillen just di villa to do. Then

(03:53):
all you have to do is putthe infinitive form of the verb on the
end of that. In today's consation, the verb happens to be sortie,
which usually means to exit or goout, but in today's conversation it means
came out, as in it justcame out. So we say elvia just

(04:15):
de sortie, elle villen juste desortie, elviing just de de sortie.
Now let's practice this concept with someother verbs. In a previous lesson,
we learned the verb ali. Soif you want to say, he just
went, what would you say? That's right, ilvia just to deli.

(04:38):
The verb morgis means to eat.If you wanted to say, he just
ate, what would you say?Did you say il via just de de
morge. That's it. So youcan use this for all sorts of things.
Now let's continue. The word somen means weak, and the word

(05:00):
dernier means last. So from thiswe get last week las sumandarnier, la
sumin, dernier las sumner altogether.Yes, it just came in last week.
Yes, we helvin just the sortiela semindarnier. We hel vien just

(05:23):
the sortier las sumandarnier. We helvinjust the sortie lassemindarnier. The next sentence
is to the conduit, as courjeupu fare ainteste to the conduit, to
the conduit, can I do atest drive? The verb pouvoi means to

(05:47):
be able to do something. Weconjugated like this, I can up,
you can he she can ill,l per, we can no. You
can polite or plural voo poov, they can masculine, feminine, ill l

(06:12):
perv. Whenever you want to askif you can do something, you just
add escu to jupe and it meanscan I escu jupu. Then you add
the verb that matches what you wantpermission to do. So in this case,

(06:33):
the verb is fair. The verbfair means to do. We use
this verb because we want to doa test drive. If we wanted to
go, we would use the verballe, and we would say es ali.
If we wanted to eat, wewould say finally. The sentence ends

(07:00):
with the words for test drive andtested a conduit, and test do conduit
and tested a conduit. The salespersonwould be very happy to do this,
so he she says bien sou, which in our conversation means sure, certainly,
of course. Then the conversation endswith guvets prandre lackly. We discussed

(07:31):
guvet in a previous lesson where weconjugated the verb alle, which means to
go. When you take guvet andput it in front of the infinitive form
of a verb, you get themeaning I am going to do something.
In this case, the verb isprand, which means to take. But

(07:54):
in our conversation today means to get, and what the salesperson wants to say
is that they are going to getthe key, so they say guves or
ongoing plus pandre to get altogether Upandre, jeu ves pandred. Finally we end

(08:18):
with the word for the key, which is luckily la cli luckily. So
today we've learned a lot, butmost importantly, we've learned how to say
something just happened, how to askto do something, and how to say
what you're going to do. Greatjob. Now you've learned everything you need

(08:41):
to know to ACE Conversation Practice Sessionsix. Now you're ready to practice this
