SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
Hey guys, Dr.
Celestine here, and I'm back foranother episode of the For
Vaginas Only podcast.
It's been a while.
And in this podcast episode,we're going to be talking about
hot girl summer, but make ithormonal.

(00:20):
First, let's cue the music.
Hello and welcome to For VaginasOnly, the podcast about
everything female.
I'm your host, Dr.
Celestine, bringing youimportant information about
understanding your health andbody in the way you wish your
doctor would actually explainit.

(00:44):
All right.
And as I said in the intro, I amDr.
Charles C.
Celestine, board-certifiedobstetrician and gynecologist.
This is my podcast called The 4Vaginas Only Podcast.
And here we talk about lots ofdifferent things when it comes
to female health, breasts, vaginal health, everything to do
with the female body.
In this episode entitled HotGirl Summer, but make it

(01:07):
hormonal, we're going to betalking about Why the summer
might be messing with yourhormones.
And summer is flying by, but itis still only July of 2025.
And it's still important to talkabout this heat and how it's
messing with us.
So let's get into it.
Okay, so what's really going on?
First of all, your circadianrhythm is your internal clock,

(01:31):
so to speak.
And it's regulated by a lot ofthings.
It's regulated by your lightexposure, your sleep patterns,
and even traveling.
So disrupted sleep, think latenights out, you're out at the
bars, out at the concerts, outat the clubs, out at the raves,
all during the summer.
Jet lag also, you're traveling, flying across the country,

(01:53):
16-hour, 18-hour flights.
All of these things can increaseyour cortisol, which can delay
or disrupt your ovulation.
And according to ACOG, which isthe American College of
Obstetrics and Gynecology, aswell as some studies done by the
NIH, cortisol The hormonecortisol and melatonin
imbalances can affect your cycleregularity or how regular your

(02:17):
periods are.
So yes, it's true that periodssometimes come crashing in right
before you go on that beachtrip, right before you land in
Japan, which was my situationlast year.
but blame travel-induced LHsurge delays.
So the LH surge is a part ofyour menstrual cycle that

(02:38):
happens and triggers ovulation, which then down the line
triggers your period.
So that is what gets disruptedwhen you have these changes
during the summer.
So you're thinking, does thismean that I have to stop
enjoying myself this summer?
And I would never do that toyou.
Never.
I am the queen of summer.
Summer is my favorite holiday.

(02:59):
Did I say holiday?
Yes, I did.
There is no way that I will saythat that's the answer.
So let's talk about what you cantry to do in order to have the
best summer possible with orwithout these period changes.
So First, hydrate, hydrate,hydrate.
Water actually helps to regulateyour body temperature and can
reduce inflammation.

(03:20):
So, and you're in the heat andkind of in these summer places,
these beach locations that canmess with that circadian rhythm
that I spoke about, hydratingactually helps.
Also, sleep.
No matter what you're doing orwhere you are in the world, try
to aim for at least seven tonine hours of sleep each night.

(03:40):
Another thing you can do is kindof watch your nutrition.
So for example, some magnesiumrich foods such as bananas,
oatmeal, spinach, turkey breast, almonds can be really helpful
during this time to support yourhormone balance.

(04:00):
And last but not least, watchyour alcohol intake.
It spikes cortisol and disruptsyour REM sleep.
But listen, sometimes no matterhow hard we try, I mean, if
you're really changing wholetime zones or if you're
traveling to someplace that thetemperature is way hotter than
where you came from, or if youritinerary is just jam-packed and

(04:22):
you can't get the sleep that I'mrecommending that you get, there
are some things you can do tokind of stay on top of any
surprises so the first thing iwould recommend is pack your
tampons or your menstrual cupsin your carry-on bag because the
last thing you want is to haveyour period on a plane and you
got nothing so make sure thatthat is in your carry-on bag

(04:45):
also make sure that you wearloose cotton underwear don't
have any tight syntheticunderwear that on in this hot
hot heat And another thing youcan try is tracking your cycle
ahead of your travel just toprep for these surprises.
So I know for me, if I'manywhere near where my period's
supposed to start and I'mtraveling or something big in my

(05:07):
life is changing, I am alreadyhaving those tampons in my bag.
I have the panty liner on justin case I get a surprise start
to my period because it's almostlike your body is primed to
bleed when it gets close to whenyour period's supposed to start
anyway.
So a big change like travel or abig change in temperature, lack
of sleep, anything like that canmake it come a little bit

(05:28):
earlier or even a little bitlater sometimes.
So that's it.
Those are the things you need toknow to get through hot girl
summer, even with some menstrualchanges and some hormonal
changes.
Our bodies are brilliant, buteven...
these wonderful bodies need alittle bit of extra TLC,

(05:49):
especially during this hot girlsummer.
So stay cool, stay balanced, andas always, stay curious about
your vagina.
And that's it for this episode.
Thank you guys so much.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
