Men det gick inte som man hade tänkt sig och kolonin levde bara kvar i 17 år. Historikern Gunlög Fur berättar om bakgrunden till Nya Sverige, om svenskarnas möten med ursprungsbefolkningen i området och hur det gick för de svenskar som blev kvar efter kolonins fall. Vi får också veta vilka spår av Nya Sverige som finns kvar idag, och varifrån den överdrivet positiva bilden av den svenska kolonin härstammar – en bild som kanske inte är helt korrekt.
