It's another podcast podcasts about video games.
(00:44):
Welcome to Game opinions episode 70, I'm your
host Cal and today. I'm back again for
another episode of game opinions.
It has been 80 years.
It's been quite a while since the last
episode of game opinions, the calendar year read,
20 22,
We are in 20 24 now, so it
(01:06):
has definitely been way longer than I anticipated
between episode 69 and 70.
The joke of highlighting episode 69 has definitely
wore itself out, so it's time to bring
in episode 70 after all this time, and
a lot of things have changed since then.
I feel like almost like a completely different
person.
(01:26):
But life happens. And as you can tell,
I am a little bit rusty on
transitioning here on this this podcast, but that's
fine.
Because today, we're gonna be talking about something
that has been in the works
since the conception of game opinions, and that
is a topic about virtual reality
Specifically, the Meta 3, I'm gonna talk a
(01:46):
little bit about Playstation Vr just because that
was my
entry point into virtual reality.
But
the branding of of game opinions of has
always had
virtual reality in there. You know, there was
the guy wearing
mister Game opinions is wearing the the virtual
reality headset, and now we are kind of
simplified into just a virtual reality headset.
(02:09):
And yeah, Virtual reality is just always kinda
been a part. It's kinda been the undertone.
It's it's kinda of been 1 of the
the future es aspects of the branding of
game opinion. So
without further ado, let's go ahead and dive
into this. So let's start at the beginning.
Aspects a virtual reality. And the first time
I was really interested in virtual reality. So
virtual reality has been a big thing. I
(02:30):
think that the first time I ever experienced
anything like
virtual reality or was, you know, introduced to
the concept was the 1 episode of fairly
odd parents where Timmy Turner went into the
virtual reality world. It was a super difficult
game he went in there with his friends,
and it ended up being very, very dangerous
because he wished that you couldn't wish yourself
out of it.
(02:50):
So I've always thought that was really cool.
I'm like, just being transported to virtual reality
in that way,
it it just seems like, you know, really,
really cool.
So outside of that,
the 3 was 1 of the
entry points into me being super interested in
what virtual reality could be like because of
the 3 d aspect of the 3 d.
(03:11):
Being able to look inside the game and
they're being depth to the game, they're being
an environment
into the game instead of everything just kind
of being plastered in a flat screen.
That was something that really piqued my interest
and something that made me so excited about
the 3DI know some people think the 3
d was gimmicky. Some people didn't like it.
It made some people sick. As the 3
(03:31):
d life cycle went on. Obviously, you had
the more you know, smart 3 that they
incorporated later on.
But I thought from the get go that
the 3 d was super exciting and that
made the 3 d probably my most anticipated
console of all time, and I was enamored
with A3DI used it all the time for
every game. If the 3 d was, you
(03:52):
know, enabled it. I know some of the
games later on kind of cut that feature
out.
But I thought, you know, awkward enough time
3 d Major majority is mask 3 d
monster hunter all these games, pilot wings,
revelations, all of those games, I thought looked
fantastic in 3DI think it it offered us
a layer of immersion that just wasn't possible
outside of that. So I was really interested
(04:14):
in Vr. I thought that that was something
that
in the future, if if that's available, if
that's something they can incorporate in future consoles
or, you know, whatever,
I would be really, really excited about that,
but at the very least at least have
A3D option. So the 3 d option obviously
didn't really pan out. That was something that
phased away after the 3 d, and even
during the 3 d with the 2 d
(04:34):
is coming out. 3 d kind of left.
It came and left it was the gimmick
of that generation.
Now I had a senior trip to Disney
world. And I can't remember what park this
was in. I can't remember what it was
really called, but I remember they was eighth.
3 d, like, you know, virtual reality experience
that you could go in with your friends
and play a game, like, where you kinda
(04:55):
had... I guess, similar to like a lightsaber
type thing,
inside the virtual reality world. And I thought
that was really cool. I thought that the
technology wasn't the best. I thought that you
know, it was a little under overwhelming, but
at this same time, it was really cool
being in that 3 d space, but I
don't think that that really changed
or really heightened my
(05:16):
excitement about virtual reality at that time. So
it was something that didn't really stick with
me. It wasn't an experience that I think
had a long lasting effect.
On me during that time. Fast forward to
when, you know, I guess, like, maybe the
20 14 area, maybe a little bit before
then you're seeing all these Youtubers playing these
horror games and testing out the prototype of
(05:37):
the oc rift or the H t vibe.
There is, you know, a whole bunch of
videos that were surfacing and how this new
technology is gonna be coming to customers and
people are gonna be able to purchase this
stuff, and run it with their Pcs. I
thought this was
this was just, you know, something that looked
completely una for me, but I was really
(05:57):
excited that, hey, you know, there's Vr kinda
starting to to take over here.
And I just remember, you know, watching those
those videos and seeing people being like, you
know, this is like nothing we've had before.
This is something that is a huge step
above, like the old Vr that I guess,
was at Disney world or wherever. It's that
was kinda circulating, like years before.
(06:18):
Like this is something that's going to be
completely new something that's going to revolutionize the
industry. And they were big and bulky. They
they didn't look super streamlined, but, of course,
at that time, they looked pretty good. They
looked futuristic.
So I would see, you know, these videos
come up, and I was like, well, that's
really nice, but
you have to have a expensive Pc to
run it. You have to pay the entry
(06:39):
fee of However, much those headsets were I
know the Vibe was really expensive.
And there was just... It it was really
difficult to even envision me being able to
afford that especially you know, at the job
I had at that time. I was making,
like, 8 dollars an hour.
So it really wasn't...
It wasn't like, conceivable that that would be
something that I'd be able to get and,
anytime soon. So I kinda just rushed it
(07:00):
off and still kept interest in it. I'm
like, I'm still interested to see where this
technology goes and who knows maybe be 1
day, it'll be something I'll be able to
try out, but that's probably a really far
far off from that.
But then Sony announced that they were working
on Project Morph, which be looked like a
really cool
futuristic looking headset with lights all over it.
(07:21):
And I was really, really excited about that
because if this went to Playstation 4. Already
had a playstation 4, so the only thing
I'd have to worry about was purchasing the
headset itself.
So I'm like, this is perfect. I already
have... I'm already in that ecosystem. I just
need to buy an accessory, which would be
the headset.
So
if it's expensive, you know, it's more just
the file because I already have the system
(07:42):
in hand, and it's going to be definitely
a lower price than anything that is currently
available on the pc d market because, you
know, I'd have to go and buy a
really expensive gaming Pc and all that. So
it it ended up becoming Playstation Vr, once
the launch day came out, d or once
it came out launch day, I went ahead
and picked it up, and I went and
got some used move controllers from Games stop,
(08:05):
which were super cheap at the time. I
think I got them for maybe 10 dollars
a piece, and then I, you know, bought
the camera separate and I ended up saving
quite a bit of money as... Opposed to
buying the bundle. And I charged the controllers
and
unbox the headset and just looking at it.
I'm like, this thing, it's smells like it's
from the future. It looks like it's from
the future, plug it in. You see all
the lights turn on and it just feels
(08:26):
like you're in Tron or something like that
and everything's just so futuristic and so so
crazy that, you know, I'm holding in my
hand something that's going to transport me inside
this this game.
Or, you know, these these different experiences, I
guess at that time.
So as remember, the first time putting it
on, I powered it on, hooked it up.
Know, downloaded all the stuff I needed to
(08:47):
download.
You have, like, that that demo disc of,
like, Vr worlds or something like that. I
forget exactly what it's called. I didn't do
any research coming back in here. I just
wanted to hop in here and record. But
I I put on that headset, and
this is something I kind of like to
do whenever I put on like, a virtual
reality,
headset. I kinda just close my eyes until
(09:08):
I can see, like, light appearing
in my eyelids, and then I like to
open my eyes and just
kind of be immersed in that world.
And I just remember opening my eyes and
seeing the surroundings and just moving my head.
And this is just the menu itself, keep
in mind. This isn't even something that is,
you know, an experience yet. It's really just
the menu itself or, like, you know, the
(09:28):
central hub. But just looking around and hearing
the music in the background and seeing everything
as it is. It was such a huge
experience and that experience alone,
was enough to just
make you feel in awe
of video games again. Something that, you know,
you only feel a few times in your
life when you
(09:50):
are either playing a spectacular game
or if you are jumping from a massive
leap generation wise
from, like, you know, sega genesis like what
I had, you know, back then to Ps
2. Like, it felt, like a general, like,
over a generational leap of technology and what
is possible. And just being in that 3
d space, being feeling like I'm actually in
(10:11):
the area. And even if the resolution wasn't
high
And even if there was, you know, imperfections
here and there,
the actual experience of being in there was
just so immersive.
And so
it's it's almost like you don't... You didn't
think that this was possible.
Growing up, you never thought that you would
actually be inside the game. And here you
are sitting here.
(10:33):
You're just in there. You're in the game.
You have all these list of experiences where
you're going to be transported to. And I
just remember going into to the
like, the shark cage going underwater,
and it feels like I'm sitting inside a
shark cage
and you look down. Your arms are there.
It's like everything just feels so real.
(10:55):
Even though, you know, you know it's faked
the screen door effect, but it's like the
immersion factor just completely overrides all that. And
you're just sitting there and you're wondering what's
gonna happen you see there's glowing jellyfish and
all this stuff around you. Like, things that
just didn't seem possible before
and I was just completely blown away. Like,
(11:16):
that was something I wanted to show my
parents. I wanted to show my siblings.
I wanted to tell every friend that I
knew.
How immersive and how
amazing that experience was.
And
I think that Playstation Vr had so many
good things with it you know, no man's
Sky was probably my favorite experience on the
Playstation Vr, I think that for
(11:38):
the technology
limitations both in terms of Vr itself,
and in terms of the move controllers, which
were just really repurposed from the playstation 3
days,
everything actually worked pretty well. All things considered.
And, you know, the wrist mounted menu system
that they had, everything worked really intuitively
and just being in all those different
(12:00):
planets and worlds,
and, you know, the interior of your ship,
even though the controls were not the best.
They made the best out of them.
And I just think that that was probably
1 of the more special experiences. I think
my all time favorite was when Battle front
2 had the Vr
experience or may have been battle the original
(12:21):
battle front. I forget 1 of the battle
fronts had a Vr
x wing experience, and I just remember playing
that in your
you're flying around a star destroyer and you
hear the Star wars music play, but it
feels like you are literally in the cockpit,
you have the ability to access your targeting
computer and it just feels like you're there
and you are floating weight in space.
(12:42):
That was just so insane and and little
version of me would have lost their mind
even more than big version of me would
have. And just being around the environment and
feeling like you are actually hovering around a
star destroyer in a dog fight with tie
fighters, it was absolutely incredible.
Something that I will never be able to
fully replicate again for the first time.
(13:04):
So playstation Vr had so many so many
good experiences on it. Probably not as many
as it should have. And honestly, I stopped.
Playing it because it was not really the
most elegant solution for Vr. But I think
is a first step and all of the
things that it was able to do for
me,
Obviously, there's other headsets out there that pre
dated it. But
for me, that was my first experience of
(13:26):
Vr.
Everything it was able to do, Everything I
was able to accomplish. I think warranted the
price a hundred percent. Even though I ended
up not playing it and not playing a
whole bunch of other games on it,
I just think that it succeeded in
delivering an experience that I just will never
forget.
And
(13:46):
After a while, I I stopped playing it
because, you know, the biggest problem with Playstation
vr
outside of the move controllers not being the
best. It was clearly out aston technology, both
in terms of resolution and the move controllers
very quickly.
The move controllers, I think just launch alone,
it just wasn't wasn't great. I think the
headset itself was very comfortable. I think they
(14:07):
did a fantastic design with that halo
heads strap. Overall experience of the Vr.
That was, you know, the biggest downfall of
it was the move controllers, but then the
biggest 1 was just the setup of the
Vr. It itself, especially in that first sku
of Playstation vr, it does... It did get
better, I think in that second sku when
they kinda limited the wires a bit.
(14:27):
But the first sku of the the Ps,
the Playstation Vr box was just so
intrusive to your entertainment center or desk or
wherever you're setting it up. And it was
just hideous to look at, and it wasn't
fun to, you know, set everything up and
and have all the different wires. I mean,
there was so many moving parts to the
playstation Vr,
(14:47):
you know, dolly chain there. It just didn't
it didn't sit elegantly. The box never really
rested in the right spot because you have
wires coming out of all the different directions.
But as a a first entry to Vr
r, I mean, it was kind of expected
that it was gonna be a little intrusive
and that was just kind of the reason
why I I kinda moved away from it
It just wasn't it wasn't a fun user
(15:09):
experience to kinda pick up in in and
set up. So that was really 1 of
the reasons why I kinda backed away from
it. And then after that I was like,
you know, I probably will be okay I
don't buy another Vr headset for a really
long time and, you know, I'm happy with
the 2 d experience that I'm happy with
just, you know, having my flat monitors and
and all that. If
because, you know, it just wasn't always convenient
(15:30):
playing playstation Vr. If you needed a drink,
you'd have to get the whole Vr headset
off your head and take the drink or
eat a snack.
So it was just very difficult to to
do any of that while playing.
1 thing that, you know, I was really
interested in, was when the quest 2 came
out, I thought that was a really good
concept because right, you know, when that... You're
seeing all these wireless headsets come out. It's
(15:51):
like,
Okay. So they're they're not as powerful as
some of these other headsets that are dedicated
to being hardwired into a computer.
Which the quest line can do.
So, you know, it's it's kind of like
a trade off. Right? But with the elegance
of just being able to play something wirelessly
and be able to move around, that was
(16:12):
really interesting.
And I think the v were
Maybe it was a line of the oc
rift. You know, you had those different sensor
components that you'd set up in your room
and you'd kinda use it that way.
The quest line being able to mark out
your own territory
and just have everything, you know, remember
digitally where things are,
(16:33):
I thought that that was a really interesting
take on that, and it made it seem
once again, more elegant less of a setup
and more of a quickly let's...
Mark our territory using our controller rather than
all this extra stuff.
So I I was definitely interested in the
quest too, but it was something where I
didn't wanna pay to get it, and I
was just once again still happy with what
(16:55):
I had and
I felt like I didn't use the Playstation
Vr enough to justify another purchase of a
Vr headset. So I was like, I'm I'm
good. I'm not gonna not gonna do that.
So after I built my computer, I was...
This my second computer I built. I was
like, you know, it would be nice to
kinda have... The ability to play some of
these Steam Vr games, but once again, just
(17:16):
didn't pull the trigger.
And then fast forward to November, the a
friend of mine was really kinda selling the
quest 3 hard to me, just because of
the exercise aspect of it,
and all the different things that you can
do and and the fun experiences that awaited.
I mean, you could play the piano using,
you know, a piano app with the Quest
(17:36):
3. All this all this stuff. It was
it was kinda eating me away a little
bit, but I will say that, you know,
heading into last November.
And even just now, you know, I was
on a weight loss. Journey probably from
May of last year to now. And
I ended up losing 40 pounds. I did
a ton of walking. I did a ton
of exercise. I stop drinking soda on a
(17:58):
regular basis. You know, I stopped going too
fast food restaurants and just ordering large everything
and then have a huge large soda washing
everything down.
I really kinda changed my approach to just
how I eat.
I move around so much more. And, yeah,
I lost 40 pounds. I feel so much
better. I feel, you know, more active. I
(18:18):
feel more alert. I feel happier. So
that was just something that I was really
taking priority. It's you know, I switch to
barefoot foot shoes, you know, that's a whole
rabbit hole that if you're curious about that,
I highly recommend looking into it.
I just feel stronger, you know, in terms
of
you know, just my my feet and everything.
(18:38):
I I feel like just a a completely
different person than I did.
You know, a year ago, and it's just
gonna continue to get better.
But 1 thing that, you know, when he
was kind of mentioning all this this stuff
about the vr,
you know, the quest 3.
I was like, you know, it would kinda
be nice to be able to do some
(19:00):
fun workouts
just during my lunch break, so I don't
have to drive anywhere to go walk around
or or anything like that.
And
you know, I was in a situation where
I was doing some freelance work, and I
ended up getting some gift cards as payment
for the freelance work.
And it was something where I couldn't really
save the gift cards, so I went ahead
and actually pulled the trigger on a Quest
(19:22):
3. I was, like,
you know, it it's it's worth investing in
my health, and it this also doubles as
an entertainment thing for me too because there's
so many different things at the quest. 3
can do. I didn't know all the things
at the time. But
I figured that, you know, it would go
well if my Pc that I invested money
into a few years back,
and it would also, you know, give me
(19:42):
the option to do some workouts.
And, you know, the the Oc quest 3,
You know, when I first got it, obviously,
that first strap that they they come with
it. It comes with the the quest 3
is not the best, but I bought the
send battery, which was a third party 1.
I didn't go with the the Meta quest
1.
And
I'd put it on and I turned everything
(20:04):
on,
and you're greeted with, like, the whole mixed
reality menu, you can move your menu around,
and it just felt like such a big
technological
leap over what the playstation Vr was.
Because right off the bat, I was like,
this solves 2 of the big problems with
Ps.
And actually 3, if you're you're thinking about
(20:25):
it, and then actually no, it solves 4.
So first 1 is, you can tap the
side of the Meta quest 3 and go
to pass through mode, so you can eat
snacks, you can... Have a a drink. You
know where things are in your environment.
It is wireless, so that clears up the
problem of having this crazy box sitting on
(20:46):
your entertainment center. It's all self contained if
you want it to be
in terms of not plugging it in into
your Pc with a single wire,
and it also,
you know, the controllers felt more better tracked
because there's no
you know, camera mounts it on top of
your,
screen. So that instantly felt better. Yeah. It
(21:07):
just it felt like everything was just more
elegant, and it was something that was less
intrusive, something that I felt like I could
just pick up, put on my head and
turn on, and it just works.
So that was a huge first impression.
I felt like there was a bigger sweet
spot to the Vr as well just because
(21:28):
of the pancake lens design that the Quest
3 has.
And I felt like the resolution was also
much better than the playstation Vr despite being
a self contained unit. I just remember, you
know, firing up the first game and just
experiencing the different mixed reality options of things
getting
manipulated in your room, and just being able
(21:50):
to to kind of walk around and interact
with things.
It was just so much different than what
the Playstation vr offered
because you were t with the playstation vr,
it wasn't an experience where you could really
get up and move around in your space.
I was just really, really blown away by
all the things that the Quest 3 was
able to do, and it it... I know
it's been a while since the playstation vr
(22:12):
vr came out. But this technology still feels
so new
but it really felt like a nice leap.
And I'm the kind of guy where I
like to
outside of, like, consoles and stuff like that,
but I'm the kind of guy that likes
to, like, weight on smartphones. Like, I don't
like to get, you know, the iphone 13
and then the 14 and then the 15.
Like, I like there to be a gap
So when I get the new phone, there's
(22:33):
a lot of new features on there that
my old phone did not have.
And this to me felt like such a
big upgrade from the Ps.
It felt like a worthwhile upgrade. You know,
the 500 dollar price point is it tough
to swallow absolutely, but it's not as bad
as the Apple vision Pro, which is 3500
dollars.
Which is... I don't know if we're gonna
talk about that, but that's that's a whole
(22:54):
another discussion. I would really
started getting used to playing with the
Oc Quest 3,
or the meta quest.
I call it the Oc.
But I was just really getting used to
playing it and really, kinda diving into the
different workout options and and using that as
something where I could just get more movement
in my day during my lunch breaks at
(23:15):
work and not having to leave a big
1 was beat saber. I know that's been
around for a long time, but that's such
a good workout. It's such a a good
complimentary workout to other things that I was
already doing. You also have pistol whip works
which there's a lot of bending. There's a
lot of dodging. It's a lot of movement,
especially, you know, when you're increasing the the
dip... And going through the levels and kinda
(23:37):
messing around with, like, the the different settings
and scenes. You know, you have Racket club,
which is 1 that I recently got difficulty
I've kinda positioned it so it's it's in
mixed reality, so you can see where you're
at. You know, half the court is in
your room and the other half where the
other player is is in the game world.
It's such a unique experience and you kind
(23:57):
of get whatever you... Whatever effort you want
to put in, that's how many calories you're
going to burn
thrill the fight. That's another high calorie game
where after you're done playing, you are exhausted
because you are really going at it, it's
or such a good little cheat code to
just sneak in some extra movement in a
really fun way,
and that has been really, really helpful. Now
(24:20):
I think that if you're going to... Or
if you're trying to get in shape and
you are trying to
introduce more movement into your life. I think
that I think walking is really the best
way to do it. But I think also
having something that you can fall back on
if the weather's not good or if you
want... To have a little bit of extra
movement in a fun way.
The Meta 3 is such a good way
(24:42):
to do that.
And I don't think the Meta 3 is
something you can just rely on completely to
get all your exercising out on because you
will get tired of it eventually. But I
think that if that's all you have,
at least you're doing that. Right? At least
you have something where you are moving around
and you are being active, but I definitely
(25:04):
think that it's best spot.
Is in a position of this is complimentary
to things I'm already doing. Like, this is
bonus stuff. Like, I'm walking 4 miles this
thing is going to give me an hour
worth of exercise as well on top of
what I'm already doing. That is where this
thing really shines. And I think that
(25:24):
the the possibilities with Vr.
There's a lot of them. Right? Because it's
a really immersive experience, so you can put
hardcore game. You know, quote, unquote, hardcore games
on the on the the Vr platform. But
you also have other things to that normal
games can't do like this exercise and fitness.
Just a scenario. Right? Say you are going
(25:45):
to a hotel, and some hotels have, like,
gyms and stuff, but say you're just going
to a hotel,
and you want to still be able to
exercise, but you don't wanna have to go
down to, like, the hotel gym and stuff.
You can bring this headset with you. This
is a fully portable headset you can bring
it with you and you can work out
on 1 of your favorite games, whatever game
gives you the best workout and you can,
(26:06):
you know, play 30 minutes or even an
hour of,
if you just wanna get in some Vr
time,
this is something you can take with you.
Like, this is a self contained workout. And
all you need to do is find space
and you can you can do it. So
I think that aspect of it, the aspect
of exercise, And even just like when Vr
treadmill become more of a, primary, or I
(26:28):
guess, more of a, mainstream
device. That there... The possibilities are endless in
terms of exercise people that play Vr are
eventually going to be very, very fit just
because of of... How versatile this thing can
be and how the technology is just getting
so good.
It's just really, really exciting in that way.
Virtual reality is a platform. Right? Like, you
(26:50):
know, Talking about this as an exercise device
and how I think this is really beneficial
if you're really struggling, trying to get exercise.
This is a really good gateway drug into
getting into exercise. Even if you're not doing
anything right now, you start working out on
there, you're gonna start feeling good exercising.
This is a great way to kinda kick
start. You kinda get your heart rate up.
Because once you do this, you could also
(27:11):
go and branch out. Like, that's the biggest
thing. I think people get various scared about
weight loss heck. Me included, I went years
without really exercising. But I think people get
really scared of weight loss because they think
it's going to be this massive commitment garrett
they think it's going to be this really,
really hard, like, difficult thing. You have to
put in her, you know, her effort to
get anything done, But that's just not true.
(27:34):
It's really not. You just have to eat
a little bit less and exercise more.
And you just have to do simple things.
What is our simplest functions that we do?
Walking is just a a simple function, but
also playing video games playing Vr r, that
is a simple thing that you can do
to kick start you know, your exercise routine,
and it just becomes part of what you
(27:55):
do, It becomes something that you do for
fun, but also something that you do to
help relieve stress.
So, I think that it's a great entry
way point to exercising if you are not
exercising a ton or if you are struggling
getting in exercising, You... There might be something
on the Vr platform on the quest platform
that will get you moving, and that's the
(28:15):
most important thing. You have to start small.
You don't have to start huge.
So I think that I kinda went a
little tangent there, but, you know, I think
that that's just such a a big part
of the quest and why it's so appealing.
But, you know, there's other things on this
thing too. This thing is a full fledged
multimedia device in terms of you can watch
(28:36):
movie theater.
Quality videos
in a virtual movie theater with big screen
or with other apps. Like, there's so many
things you can do. Like, I like to
watch
flyers games by streaming them from my computer
to the headset, and I can watch it
in a movie theater, I can host it,
so people can come and watch things you
know, the different different things I'm streaming on
(28:57):
there. It is so much fun. It is
so immersive, and it's a great way of
watching things like when the fallout series came
out.
I watched it on,
the Amazon app via big screen on the
quest 3, And you're just fully immersed in
the ex experience because you can set it
to anywhere you want, you can set it
to
you know, a living room. You can set
(29:18):
it to, like, a hotel room,
there's so many different things that you can
set up and they're included... They kinda update
it regularly, I think with different settings that
you can you can download.
But watching, you know, your favorite show and
a virtual movie theater and then also watching
it with other people is just such a
cool experience, especially if you live far away
(29:38):
from people that you know this is just
such a cool way to kinda incorporate it.
Now when it comes to traditional games, res
evil 4 is on this platform.
You also have As wrath. You have assassin
creed. All 3 of those are really, really
good experiences that kind of crossover from traditional
games to Vr. That's like the shared part
(30:01):
of the venn diagram,
where that is something that is shared.
Between traditional games and Vr, and those are
excellent experiences. They offer immersion you cannot possibly
get in A2D game and it is impressive.
It is crazy how good it is. So
that is that's something that the quest 3
can also do for you. It can give
(30:22):
you traditional experiences. You can take it to
your Pc if you have a Pc, play
half life Alex. It is incredible. It is
incredible how good that game looks. It's incredible
how game how that game plays.
It's it's absolutely incredible. You also have unique
Vr experiences on there. So that includes all
the the work workout that I was talking
about, you know, walk about mini golf is
(30:43):
another 1 that is something that's really only
doable and fun in vr, and it just
seems has so many different things that you
can experience and have fun, and it is
just 1 of those, you know, unique console
experiences that you get from the meta quest
3. So I think that the Meta 3
(31:03):
is
1 of my favorite consoles on the market.
Honestly, at this point in time,
I probably play it more than anything else
that includes my Ps 5 that includes my
Pc that includes my switch.
I probably play the Meta 3 a little
bit more than all of those.
And it is just... It's such a unique
and fun experience.
(31:24):
And I I just can't. I really can't
recommend it enough. If you're on the fence
about vr even mixed reality in general, you
know, you're looking at the
Apple Vision Pro and you're like, wow, I
really wish I could get that, but it's
3000 dollars plus.
Don't overlook the Meta quest 3 because this
thing does do a lot of those same
things, and it's going to give you a
(31:44):
very unique experience and this is really just
an awesome
platform that, you know, Meta is gonna continue
to
support.
I definitely recommend it. So I kinda went
a little bit of a a tangent there.
You know, once again, this is a not
researched.
Episode. This isn't has probably as well put
(32:04):
together as a lot of my other ones.
But, you know, I think that that virtual
reality
Even if it doesn't sell well, even if
it's not going to bring in the most
numbers. I think this is a technology
that we need to continue. To have resources
porn into
because this is just something that is going
to be part of our lives. I think
that the augmented reality aspect of mixed reality
(32:27):
is going to be a huge thing. I
mean, you can have Tv screens set up
in random spots of your house. I mean,
there's just certain things that you can do.
And as technology advances, and as this becomes
less and less and intrusive to become smaller
and thinner, and you're able to fit it
into, like, a pair of glasses or something
like that. That is where that technology is
going to really shine, And then honestly, it's
(32:49):
only a matter of time before it gets
to that form factor, and it gets to
be more affordable. I think that, you know,
if you get a Meta quest 3, or
even the Apple vision Pro, you're kind of
on the ground floor here as to what
to expect going in the future. I know,
like, back in the day, it was, like,
oh, we're gonna have, like Star Wars like
hologram and all that kind of stuff,
this is what this is.
(33:10):
Having all of these virtual things around you
that you can manipulate in your vision, And
if people are wearing that same technology, they
can see you manipulating that in that space
as well,
that is where we are at.
All of the... All that futuristic stuff, it's
it's
augmented reality. It's in mixed reality. That is
where we are at.
(33:31):
And I just have to say that the
Meta 3 has blown me away. There's are
so many things about it that I love.
I love the fact that if you buy
a game, you can send a discount code
to 1 of your friends for literally every
game that's on there. You can send a
discount code and they get, like, you know,
15 percent off or 20 percent off or
10 percent off friends depends what game. I
think that is such an awesome idea, and
(33:52):
you get credit back for that you can
use to actually buy more games.
There's just... There's so many different things that
I love about the Medic quest 3.
But I love that. I'm able to use
it as a tool. And I'm also able
to use it as a device that is
just for pure entertainment. There's just there's so
many things to like about it. It's it's
such a... Cool thing to see that this
(34:14):
technology has evolved over time, and I can't
wait to see where it goes in the
future.
But I think that's that's probably about it
that I have have to say today. I'm
getting really tired. Like I said, it's been
so long since I've been able to record
an episode of game opinions and be able
to... Speak this long into a microphone. I
mean, we're sitting around almost 40 minutes here.
(34:35):
And
yeah. I mean, it's it's been a wild
ride,
I'm I'm hoping to get more and more
active into this. There's other things I wanna
talk about. I wanna talk about the fallout
show I wanna talk about.
El Ring dlc. I wanna talk about, you
know, maybe even Bald gate.
Whole bunch of other things that I'd like
to to talk about and hopefully we get
to that point, but
(34:55):
for now, we have episode 70, and we're
just gonna continue to chip away.
I hope that everybody that has continued to
to download these episodes, and, I'm seeing the
download numbers and people
still check out some of our our, you
know, the favorite episodes that I've I've made
to you know, people are still checking those
out, and it's so cool to see.
But hopefully, we continue to make more and
(35:16):
more game opinions at... Episodes and, you know,
give you guys something to to listen to.
So
thank you for all the support. Thank you
for listening in. And
until next time, keep on keep it on.
